We report on a detailed abundance study of six bright, mostly southern, slowly rotating late B stars: HD~1279 (B8III), HD~99803 (B9V), HD~123445 (B9V), HD~147550 (B9V), HD~171961 (B8III) and HD~202671 (B5II/III), hitherto reported as normal stars. We compare them to the two classical HgMn stars $μ$ Lep and $β$ Scl and to the superficially normal star, $ν$ Cap. In the spectra of the six stars, the \ion{Hg}{2} line at 3984 Å line is clearly seen and numerous lines of P, Ti, Mn, Fe, Ga, Sr, Y, and Zr appear to be strong absorbers. A comparison of newly acquired and archival spectra of these objects with a grid of synthetic spectra for selected unblended lines reveals large overabundances of P, Ti, Cr, Mn, Sr, Y, Zr, Ba, Pt and Hg and underabundances of He, Mg, Sc and Ni. The effective temperatures, surface gravities, low projected rotational velocities and the peculiar abundance patterns of the six investigated stars show that they are new chemically peculiar stars, mostly new HgMn stars, and are reclassified as such. The evolutionary status of these stars has been inferred and their ages and masses estimated. The two most massive objects, HD~1279 and HD~202671, might have evolved away from the main-sequence recently, the other stars are main-sequence objects. HD~99803A is a sharp lined HgMn star with grazing eclipses; from TESS and MASCARA photometry we determine an orbital period of $P_{\rm orb} = 26.12022 \pm 0.00004$\,d.

We study the most precise light curves of the planet-host HAT-P-36 that we obtained from the ground primarily with a brand-new 80 cm telescope very recently installed at Ankara University Kreiken Observatory of Turkey and also from the space with Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite. The main objective of the study is to analyze the Transit Timing Variations (TTV) observed in the hot-Jupiter type planet HAT-P-36 b, a strong candidate for orbital decay, based on our own observations as well as that have been acquired by professional and amateur observers since its discovery. HAT-P-36 displays out-of-transit variability as well as light curve anomalies during the transits of its planet due to stellar spots. We collected and detrended all the complete transit light curves we had access to from these anomalies, which we modeled with EXOFAST and measured the mid-transit times forming a homogeneous data set for a TTV analysis. We found an increase in the orbital period of HAT-P-36 b at a rate of 0.014 s per year from the best fitting quadratic function, which is only found in the TTV constructed by making use of the mid-transit times measured from detrended light curves, against an expectation of an orbital decay based on its parameters. We refined the values of these system parameters by modeling the Spectral Energy Distribution of the host star, its archival radial velocity observations from multiple instruments, and most precise transit light curves from the space and the ground covering a wide range of wavelengths with EXOFASTV2. We also analyzed the out-of-transit variability from TESS observations to search for potential rotational modulations through a frequency analysis. We report a statistically significant periodicity in the TESS light curve at 4.22 +/- 0.02 d, which might have been caused by instrumental systematics but should be tracked in the future observations of the target.

In this work, a mass-effective temperature-surface gravity relation (MTGR) is developed for main sequence stars in the range of 6400 K < $T_{\rm eff}$ < 20000 K with log$g$ > 3.44. The MTGR allows the simple estimation of the masses of stars from their effective temperatures and surface gravities. It can be used for solar metallicity and can be rescaled for any metallicity within -1.00 < [Fe/H] < 0.7. The effect of alpha-enhanced compositions can also be considered with the help of correction terms.
It is aimed to develop an MTGR that can estimate the masses of main-sequence stars from their atmospheric parameters. One advantage of an MTGR over the classical mass-luminosity relations is that its mass estimation is based on parameters that can be obtained by purely spectroscopic methods and, therefore, the interstellar extinction or reddening do not have to be known. The use of surface gravity ($g$) also relates an MTGR with stellar evolution and provides a more reliable mass estimation.
A synthetical MTGR is obtained from theoretical isochrones using a Levenberg-Marquardt chi-square minimization algorithm. The validity of the MTGR is then checked by testing over 278 binary components with precise absolute masses. Very good agreement has been obtained between the absolute masses of 278 binary star components and their masses estimated from the MTGR. A mathematical expression is also given to calculate the propagated uncertainties of the MTGR masses.
For the typical uncertainties in atmospheric parameters and metallicity, the typical uncertainties in the masses estimated from the MTGR mostly remain around 5-9%. The fact that this uncertainty level is only on average about three times as large as that of the absolute masses indicates that the MTGR is a very powerful tool for stellar mass estimation. A computer code, mtgr.pro, written in GDL/IDL is also provided for the relation.

Observations and modelling of stars with near-solar masses in their early phases of evolution is critical for a better understanding of how dynamos of solar-type stars evolve. We examine the chemical composition and the spot distribution of the pre-main-sequence solar analogue EK Dra. Using spectra from the HERMES Spectrograph (La Palma), we obtain the abundances of 23 elements with respect to the solar ones, which lead to a $[{\rm Fe/H}]=0.03$, with significant overabundance of Li and Ba. The s-process elements Sr, Y, and Ce are marginally overabundant, while Co, Ni, Cu, Zn are marginally deficient compared to solar abundances. The overabundance of Ba is most likely due to the assumption of depth-independent microturbulent velocity. Li abundance is consistent with the age and the other abundances may indicate distinct initial conditions of the pre-stellar nebula. We estimate a mass of 1.04 $M_\odot$ and an age of $27^{+11}_{-8}$\,Myr using various spectroscopic and photometric indicators. We study the surface distribution of dark spots, using 17 spectra collected during 15 nights using the CAFE Spectrograph (Calar Alto). We also conduct flux emergence and transport (FEAT) simulations for EK Dra's parameters and produce 15-day-averaged synoptic maps of the likely starspot distributions. Using Doppler imaging, we reconstruct the surface brightness distributions for the observed spectra and FEAT simulations, which show overall agreement for polar and mid-latitude spots, while in the simulations there is a lack of low-latitude spots compared to the observed image. We find indications that cross-equatorial extensions of mid-latitude spots can be artefacts of the less visible southern-hemisphere activity.

For HD 174567, milder deficiencies and excesses are found. The abundances of sodium, magnesium and calcium have been corrected for NLTE effects. The effective temperatures, surface gravities, low projected rotational velocities and the peculiar abundance patterns of HD 30085 and HD 30963 show that these stars are 2 new HgMn stars and should be reclassified as such. HD 174567 is most likely a new marginally Chemically Peculiar star. A list of the identifications of lines absorbing more than 2% in the spectrum of HD 30085 is also provided.

The spectrum of the evolved B8 III giant HR 62 exhibits weak He-lines and strong Mn and P lines. HR 62 therefore resembles both a HgMn star (CP3) and a He-weak PGa star (CP4).
This study is a companion project to a high resolution survey of slowly rotationg late-B type stars aiming at finding new chemically peculiar stars. We have analysed the spectra of HR 62 (B8 III) and the dwarf comparison star HR 677 (B8 V) to derive their chemical abundances. Both stars have similar effective temperatures (12500 K) and projected rotational velocities ($\sim$25 km s$^{-1}$).
The medium resolution ($R$ $\sim$14000) spectra covering the wavelength range of 4380-7350 Å of HR 62 and HR 677 have been obtained with the échelle spectrograph attached to the 40 cm telescope in Ankara University Kreiken Observatory (AUKR), Turkey. We have used SYNSPEC49/SYNPLOT written by I. Hubeny and T. Lanz to compute grids of synthetic spectra and derive elemental abundances by modeling selected unblended lines.
We find that HR 62 exhibits underabundance of Si and remarkable overabundance of P and Mn with respect to the Sun. In contrast, HR 677 does not have abundances departing by more than $\pm$ 0.25 dex from solar abundances. A mass of 5.4 $M_\odot$ and an age of 90 Myr have been estimated for HR 62.
We discuss the origin of the chemical peculiarities of HR 62 and its status as a CP star. The effective temperature of the star (12500 K) agrees well with those of HgMn (CP3) stars. Furthermore, the main sequence end of its evolutionary track also intersects the domain of He-weak CP4 stars. Hence these first results suggest that HR 62 may be a transition object between the CP4 to CP3 subgroup. However, a more detailed analysis of higher resolution spectra at shorter wavelengths (< 4380 Å) is necessary to clearly address the nature of this interesting object.

We find that these stars do not show remarkable departures from the solar abundances, except for HR 8705 and the primary component of HR 1284, which exhibit slight underabundances of a few elements, i.e., O, Mg, Al, Si, and Fe. We also find that HR 1284 is probably a new spectroscopic binary star. In order to model the spectrum of this object, one of us (TK) has developed a new graphic interface which allows us to synthesize the composite spectrum of binary stars.

Our analysis is based on medium (R$\sim$14000) and high (R$\sim$40000) resolution spectroscopic data of the stars. The abundance of 18 elements are derived: C, O, Na, Mg, Al, Si, S, Ca, Sc, Ti, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Zn, Sr, Y, and Ba. The masses of HD 23193 and HD 170920 are estimated from evolutionary tracks, as $2.3\pm0.1$ $M_{\odot}$ and $2.9\pm0.1$ $M_{\odot}$. The ages are found $635\pm33$ Myr for HD 23193 and $480\pm50$ Myr for HD 170920 using isochrones. The abundance pattern of HD 23193 shows deviations from solar values in the iron-peak elements and indicates remarkable overabundances of Sr (1.16), Y (1.03), and Ba (1.24) with respect to the solar abundances. We compare the derived abundances of this moderately rotating ($v$sin$i = 37.5 $ km s$^{-1}$) Am star to the theoretical chemical evolution models including rotational mixing. The theoretically predicted abundances resemble our derived abundance pattern, except for a few elements (Si and Cr). For HD 170920, we find nearly solar abundances, except for C ($-0.43$), S (0.16), Ti (0.15), Ni (0.16), Zn (0.41), Y (0.57), and Ba (0.97). Its low rotational velocity ($v$sin$i = 14.5 $ km s$^{-1}$), reduced carbon abundance, and enhanced heavy element abundances suggest that the star is most-likely an evolved HgMn star.

The lines of Ti II, Cr II, Sr II and Ba II are conspicuous features in the high resolution high signal-to-noise SOPHIE spectra of HR 8844 and much stronger than in the spectra of the normal star $ν$ Cap. The Hg II line at 3983.93 Å is also present in a 3.5 \% blend. Selected unblended lines of 31 chemical elements from He up to Hg have been synthesized using model atmospheres computed with ATLAS9 and the spectrum synthesis code SYNSPEC48 including hyperfine structure of various isotopes when relevant. These synthetic spectra have been adjusted to the mean SOPHIE spectrum of HR 8844, and high resolution spectra of the comparison stars. Chisquares were minimized in order to derive abundances or upper limits to the abundances of these elements for HR 8844 and the comparison stars. HR 8844 is found to have underabundances of He, C, O, Mg, Ca and Sc, mild enhancements of Ti, V, Cr, Mn and distinct enhancements of the heavy elements Sr, Y, Zr, Ba, La, Pr, Sm, Eu and Hg, the overabundances increasing steadily with atomic number. This chemical pattern suggests that HR 8844 may actually be a new transition object between the coolest HgMn stars and the Am stars.

We present here the first abundance analysis of 44 late B, A and F-type members of the young open cluster M6 (NGC 6405, age about 75 Myrs). Spectra, covering the 4500 to 5800 Å wavelength range, were obtained using the FLAMES/GIRAFFE spectrograph attached to the ESO Very Large Telescopes (VLT). We determined the atmospheric parameters using calibrations of the Geneva photometry and by adjusting the $H_β$ profiles to synthetic ones. The abundances of up to 20 chemical elements, were derived for 19 late B, 16 A and 9 F stars by iteratively adjusting synthetic spectra to the observations. We also derived a mean cluster metallicity of $\mathrm{[Fe/H]=0.07\pm0.03}$ dex from the iron abundances of the F-type stars. We find that, for most chemical elements, the normal late B and A-type stars exhibit larger star-to-star abundance variations than the F-type stars do probably because of the faster rotation of the B and A stars. The abundances of C, O, Mg, Si and Sc appear to be anticorrelated to that of Fe, while the opposite holds for the abundances of Ca, Ti, Cr, Mn, Ni, Y, and Ba about as expected if radiative diffusion is efficient in the envelopes of these stars. In the course of this analysis, we discovered five new peculiar stars: one mild-Am, one Am, and one Fm star (HD 318091, CD-32 13109, GSC 07380-01211), one HgMn star (HD 318126), and one He-weak P-rich (HD 318101) star. We also discovered a new spectroscopic binary, most likely a SB2. We performed a detailed modelling of HD 318101,the new He-weak P-rich CP star, using the Montréal stellar evolution code XEVOL which treats self-consistently all particle transport processes. Although the overall abundance pattern of this star is properly reproduced, we find that detailed abundances (in particular the high P excess) resisted modelling attempts even when a range of turbulence profiles and mass loss rates were considered.

The atmospheric parameters and chemical abundances of two neglected A-type stars, 28 Peg and HD 202240, were derived using high resolution spectra obtained at the TUBITAK National Observatory. We determined the photospheric abundances of eleven elements for 28 Peg and twenty for HD 202240, using equivalent-width measurement and spectral synthesis methods. Their abundance patterns are in good agreement with those of chemically normal A-type stars having similar atmospheric parameters. We pinpoint the position of these stars on the H-R diagram and estimate their masses and ages as; $2.60\pm0.10\ M_\odot$ and $650\pm50\ Myr$ for 28 Peg and $4.50\pm0.09\ M_\odot$ and $150\pm10\ Myr$ for HD 202240. We analyze new, high quality multicolor light curves of four overcontact binaries: AK Her, HI Dra, V1128 Tau and V2612 Oph, and determine their orbital and physical parameters using the modeling program of G. Djurasevic and recently published results of radial velocity studies. The achieved precision in absolute masses is between 10 and 20%, and in absolute radii between 5 and 10%. All four systems are W UMa type binaries with bright or dark spots indicative of mass and energy transfer or surface activity. We estimate the distances and the ages of the systems using the luminosities computed through our analysis, and perform an O-C study for V1128 Tau, which reveals a complex period variation that can be interpreted in terms of mass loss/exchange and either the presence of the third body, or the magnetic activity on one of the components. We conclude that further observations of these systems are needed to deepen our understanding of their nature and variability.

Differences in chemical composition among main sequence stars within a given cluster are probably due to differences in their masses and other effects such as radiative diffusion, magnetic field, rotation, mixing mechanisms, mass loss, accretion and multiplicity. The early type main-sequence members of open clusters of different ages allow to study the competition between radiative diffusion and mixing mechanisms. We have analysed low and high resolution spectra covering the spectral range 4500 - 5840 Angs. of late B, A, and F type members of the open Cluster M6 (age about 100 Myr). The spectra were obtained using the FLAMES/GIRAFFE spectrograph mounted at UT2, the 8 meter class VLT telescope. The effective temperatures, surface gravities and microturbulent velocities of the stars were derived using both photometric and spectral methods. We have also performed a chemical abundance analysis using synthetic spectra. The abundances of the elements were determined for C, O, Mg, Si, Ca, Sc, Ti, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Y, Ba. The star-to-star variations in elemental abundances among the members of the open cluster M6 were discussed.

In this paper, we present the orbital solutions for these systems obtained by simultaneous light and radial velocity curve analyses. Extensive orbital solution and absolute parameters for ET Boo system were given for the first time through this study. According to the analyses, ET Boo is a detached binary while the parameters of four remaining systems are consistent with the nature of contact binaries. The evolutionary status of the components of these systems are also discussed by referring to their absolute parameters found in this study.

Aims. We analyze new multicolor light curves and recently published radial velocity curves for close binaries QX And, RW Com, MR Del, and BD +07{\circ} 3142 to determine the physical parameters of the components. Methods. The light curves are analyzed using a binary star model based on Roche geometry to fit the photometric observations. Spectroscopic parameters, such as the mass ratios and spectral types, were taken from recent spectroscopic studies of the systems in question. Results. Our findings provide consistent and reliable sets of stellar parameters for the four studied binary systems. Of particular interest is the BD +07{\circ} 3142 system, since this is the first analysis of its light curves. We find that it is an overcontact binary of W UMa type and W subtype, and that each component has a large cool spot in the polar region. QX And is an A subtype, and RW Com a W subtype W UMa binary, and in both systems we find a bright spot in the neck region between the components. MR Del is a detached binary with a complex light curve that we could model with two cool spots on the hotter component.
