Using the~$B^+\rightarrow χ_{c1}(3872)K^+$decay, the $χ_{c1}(3872)\rightarrow ψ(2S)γ$ process is observed for the first time and the ratio of its partial width to that of the $χ_{c1}(3872)\rightarrow J/ψγ$ decay is measured to be $$ \frac{Γ_{χ_{c1}(3872)\rightarrow ψ(2S)γ}}
{Γ_{χ_{c1}(3872)\rightarrow J/ψγ}} = 1.67 \pm 0.21 \pm 0.12 \pm0.04 , $$ where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third is due to the uncertainties on the branching fractions of the $ψ(2S)$ and $J/ψ$ mesons. The measured ratio makes the interpretation of the $χ_{c1}(3872)$ state as a~pure $D^0\bar{D}^{*0}+\bar{D}^0D^{*0}$ molecule questionable and strongly indicates a sizeable compact charmonium or tetraquark component within the $χ_{c1}(3872)$ state.

The stochastic nature of star formation and photon propagation in high-redshift galaxies can result in sizable galaxy-to-galaxy scatter in their properties. Ignoring this scatter by assuming mean quantities can bias estimates of their emissivity and corresponding observables. We construct a flexible, semi-empirical model, sampling scatter around the following mean relations: (i) the conditional halo mass function (CHMF); (ii) the stellar-to-halo mass relation (SHMR); (iii) galaxy star formation main sequence (SFMS); (iv) fundamental metallicity relation (FMR); (v) conditional intrinsic luminosity; and (vi) photon escape fraction. In our fiducial model, ignoring scatter in these galaxy properties overestimates the duration of the EoR, delaying its completion by up to $Δz$ ~ 2. We quantify the relative importance of each of the above sources of scatter in determining the ionizing, soft-band X-ray and Lyman Werner (LW) emissivities as a function of scale and redshift. We find that scatter around the SFMS is important for all bands, especially at the highest redshifts where the emissivity is dominated by the faintest, most "bursty" galaxies. Ignoring this scatter would underestimate the mean emissivity and its standard deviation computed over 5 cMpc regions by factors of up to $\sim$2-10 at $5< z < 15$. Scatter around the X-ray luminosity to star formation rate relation is important for determining X-ray emissivity, accounting for roughly half of its mean and standard deviation. The importance of scatter in the ionizing escape fraction depends on its functional form, while scatter around the SHMR contributes at the level of ~10-20%. Although scatter does flatten the UV luminosity functions, shifting the bright end by 1-2 magnitudes, the level of scatter in our fiducial model is insufficient to fully explain recent estimates from JWST photometry (consistent with previous studies).

The value ${r_τ^{\rm Run\,2}=1.076\pm0.013\pm0.006}$ is obtained, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. This value is averaged with the corresponding value from Run 1 to obtain ${r_τ^{\rm Run\,1,2} = 1.078\pm0.012\pm0.007}$. Multiplying by the world-average value of the $Λ^0_b$ lifetime yields $τ_{Ξ^-_b}^{\rm Run~1,2} = 1.578\pm0.018\pm0.010\pm0.011$ ps, where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to the limited knowledge of the $Λ^0_b$ lifetime. This measurement improves the precision of the current world average of the $Ξ^-_b$ lifetime by about a factor of two, and is in good agreement with the most recent theoretical predictions.

The branching fraction ratios of $\overline{B}^0\to D^+τ^-\overlineν_τ$ and $\overline{B}^0\to D^{*+}τ^-\overlineν_τ$ decays are measured with respect to their muonic counterparts, using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.0 fb$^{-1}$ collected by the LHCb experiment in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV. The reconstructed final states are formed by combining $D^+$ mesons with $τ^-\toμ^-\overlineν_μν_τ$ candidates, where the $D^+$ is reconstructed via the $D^+\to K^-π^+π^+$ decay. The results are
\begin{align*}
R(D^{+}) &= 0.249 \pm 0.043 \pm 0.047,
R(D^{*+}) &= 0.402 \pm 0.081\pm 0.085,

where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The two measurements have a correlation coefficient of $-0.39$ and are compatible with the Standard Model.

A study of resonant structures in $B^{+}\rightarrow{D^{\ast+}D^{-}K^{+}}$ and $B^{+}\rightarrow{D^{\ast-}D^{+}K^{+}}$ decays is performed, using proton-proton collision data at centre-of-mass energies of $\sqrt{s}=7, 8$, and $13$ TeV recorded by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb$^{-1}$. A simultaneous amplitude fit is performed to the two channels with contributions from resonances decaying to $D^{\ast-}D^{+}$ and $D^{\ast+}D^{-}$ states linked by $C$ parity. This procedure allows the $C$-parities of resonances in the $D^{\ast\pm}D^{\mp}$ mass spectra to be determined. Four charmonium(-like) states are observed decaying into $D^{\ast\pm}D^{\mp}$: $η_c(3945)$, $h_c(4000)$, $χ_{c1}(4010)$ and $h_c(4300)$, with quantum numbers $J^{PC}$ equal to $0^{-+}$, $1^{+-}$, $1^{++}$ and $1^{+-}$, respectively. At least three of these states have not been observed previously. In addition, the existence of the $T_{\bar{c}\bar{s}0}^{*}(2870)^{0}$ and $T_{\bar{c}\bar{s}1}^{*}(2900)^{0}$ resonances in the $D^-K^+$ mass spectrum, already observed in the $B^+ \to D^+ D^- K^+$ decay, is confirmed in a different production channel.

A search for radiative decay of $B^0_s$ mesons to orbitally excited $K^+K^-$ states is performed using proton proton collisions recorded by the \mbox{LHCb}\xspace experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9~fb$^{-1}$. The dikaon spectrum in the mass range $m_{KK}<2400$~{\ensuremath{\,\text{Me\kern -0.1em V\!/}c^2}\xspace} is dominated by the $φ(1020)$ resonance that accounts for almost 70$\%$ of the decay rate. Considering the possible contributions of $f_2{(1270)}$, $f'_2{(1525)}$ and $f_2{(2010)}$ meson states, the overall tensor contribution to the amplitude is measured to be \begin{equation}
{\cal F}_{\{f_2\}}=16.8\pm 0.5\mathrm{~(stat.)}\pm0.7\mathrm{~(syst.)}\%,\nonumber \end{equation}
mostly dominated by the $f'_2(1525)$ state. Several statistically equivalent solutions are obtained for the detailed resonant structure depending on whether the smaller amplitudes interfere destructively or constructively with the dominant amplitude. The preferred solution that corresponds to the lowest values of the fit fractions along with constructive interference leads to the relative branching ratio measurement \begin{equation}
\frac{{\cal B}(B^0_s\to f'_2γ)}{{\cal B}(B^0_s\toφγ)}= 19.4^{+0.9}_{-0.8}\mathrm{~(stat.)}{}^{+1.4}_{-0.5}\mathrm{~(syst.)}\pm0.5\mathrm{~(\cal{B})}\%\nonumber, \end{equation} where the last uncertainty is due to the ratio of measured branching fractions to the $K^+K^-$ final state. This result represents the first observation of the radiative $B^0_s\to f'_2(1525)γ$ decay, which is the second radiative transition observed in the $B^0_s$ sector.

A comprehensive study of the local and nonlocal amplitudes contributing to the decay $B^0\rightarrow K^{*0}(\to K^+π^-) μ^+μ^-$ is performed by analysing the phase-space distribution of the decay products. The analysis is based on \proton\proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 8.4fb$^{-1}$ collected by the LHCb experiment. This measurement employs for the first time a model of both one-particle and two-particle nonlocal amplitudes, and utilises the complete dimuon mass spectrum without any veto regions around the narrow charmonium resonances. In this way it is possible to explicitly isolate the local and nonlocal contributions and capture the interference between them. The results show that interference with nonlocal contributions, although larger than predicted, only has a minor impact on the Wilson Coefficients determined from the fit to the data. For the local contributions, the Wilson Coefficient $C_9$, responsible for vector dimuon currents, exhibits a $2.1σ$ deviation from the Standard Model expectation. The Wilson Coefficients $C_{10}$, $C_{9}'$ and $C_{10}'$ are all in better agreement than $C_{9}$ with the Standard Model and the global significance is at the level of $1.5σ$. The model used also accounts for nonlocal contributions from $B^{0}\to K^{*0}\left[τ^+τ^-\to μ^+μ^-\right]$ rescattering, resulting in the first direct measurement of the $b sττ$ vector effective-coupling $C_{9τ}$.

The Near-Infrared Spectrometer and Photometer (NISP) on board the Euclid satellite provides multiband photometry and R>=450 slitless grism spectroscopy in the 950-2020nm wavelength range. In this reference article we illuminate the background of NISP's functional and calibration requirements, describe the instrument's integral components, and provide all its key properties. We also sketch the processes needed to understand how NISP operates and is calibrated, and its technical potentials and limitations. Links to articles providing more details and technical background are included. NISP's 16 HAWAII-2RG (H2RG) detectors with a plate scale of 0.3" pix^-1 deliver a field-of-view of 0.57deg^2. In photo mode, NISP reaches a limiting magnitude of ~24.5AB mag in three photometric exposures of about 100s exposure time, for point sources and with a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 5. For spectroscopy, NISP's point-source sensitivity is a SNR = 3.5 detection of an emission line with flux ~2x10^-16erg/s/cm^2 integrated over two resolution elements of 13.4A, in 3x560s grism exposures at 1.6 mu (redshifted Ha). Our calibration includes on-ground and in-flight characterisation and monitoring of detector baseline, dark current, non-linearity, and sensitivity, to guarantee a relative photometric accuracy of better than 1.5%, and relative spectrophotometry to better than 0.7%. The wavelength calibration must be better than 5A. NISP is the state-of-the-art instrument in the NIR for all science beyond small areas available from HST and JWST - and an enormous advance due to its combination of field size and high throughput of telescope and instrument. During Euclid's 6-year survey covering 14000 deg^2 of extragalactic sky, NISP will be the backbone for determining distances of more than a billion galaxies. Its NIR data will become a rich reference imaging and spectroscopy data set for the coming decades.

In addition to accurate weak lensing and clustering measurements that probe structure formation over half of the age of the Universe, its primary probes for cosmology, these exquisite data will enable a wide range of science. This paper provides a high-level overview of the mission, summarising the survey characteristics, the various data-processing steps, and data products. A measurement of the transverse polarization of the $Λ$ and $\barΛ$ hyperons in $p$Ne fixed-target collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 68.4 GeV is presented using data collected by the LHCb detector. The polarization is studied using the decay $Λ\rightarrow p π^-$ together with its charge conjugated process, the integrated values measured are
$$ P_Λ = 0.029 \pm 0.019 \, (\rm{stat}) \pm 0.012 \, (\rm{syst}) \, , $$ $$ P_{\barΛ} = 0.003 \pm 0.023 \, (\rm{stat}) \pm 0.014 \,(\rm{syst}) \,. $$
Furthermore, the results are shown as a function of the Feynman~$x$~variable, transverse momentum, pseudorapidity and rapidity of the hyperons, and are compared with previous measurements.

As both Parker Solar Probe (PSP) and Solar Orbiter (SolO) reach heliocentric distances closer to the Sun, they present an exciting opportunity to study the structure of CMEs in the inner heliosphere. We present an analysis of the global flux rope structure of the 2022 September 5 CME event that impacted PSP at a heliocentric distance of only 0.07 au and SolO at 0.69 au. We compare in situ measurements at PSP and SolO to determine global and local expansion measures, finding a good agreement between magnetic field relationships with heliocentric distance, but significant differences with respect to flux rope size. We use PSP/WISPR images as input to the ELEvoHI model, providing a direct link between remote and in situ observations; we find a large discrepancy between the resulting modeled arrival times, suggesting that the underlying model assumptions may not be suitable when using data obtained close to the Sun, where the drag regime is markedly different in comparison to larger heliocentric distances. Finally, we fit the SolO/MAG and PSP/FIELDS data independently with the 3DCORE model and find that many parameters are consistent between spacecraft, however, challenges are apparent when reconstructing a global 3D structure that aligns with arrival times at PSP and Solar Orbiter, likely due to the large radial and longitudinal separations between spacecraft. From our model results, it is clear the solar wind background speed and drag regime strongly affects the modeled expansion and propagation of CMEs and needs to be taken into consideration.

We combine stellar orbits with the abundances of the heavy, $r$-process element europium and the light, $α$-element, silicon to separate in-situ and accreted populations in the Milky Way across all metallicities. At high orbital energy, the accretion-dominated halo shows elevated values of [Eu/Si], while at lower energies, where many of the stars were born in-situ, the levels of [Eu/Si] are lower. These systematically different levels of [Eu/Si] in the MW and the accreted halo imply that the scatter in [Eu/$α$] within a single galaxy is smaller than previously thought. At the lowest metallicities, we find that both accreted and in-situ populations trend down in [Eu/Si], consistent with enrichment via neutron star mergers. Through compiling a large dataset of abundances for 46 globular clusters (GCs), we show that differences in [Eu/Si] extend to populations of in-situ/accreted GCs. We interpret this consistency as evidence that in $r$-process elements, GCs trace the star formation history of their hosts, motivating their use as sub-Gyr timers of galactic evolution. Furthermore, fitting the trends in [Eu/Si] using a simple galactic chemical evolution model, we find that differences in [Eu/Si] between accreted and in-situ MW field stars cannot be explained through star formation efficiency alone. Finally, we show that the use of [Eu/Si] as a chemical tag between GCs and their host galaxies extends beyond the Local Group, to the halo of M31 - potentially offering the opportunity to do Galactic Archaeology in an external galaxy.

The initial flavour of each $D^0$ candidate is determined from the charge of the pion produced in the $D^*(2010)^+ \rightarrow D^0 π^+$ decay. The decay $D^0 \rightarrow K^- π^+ π^0$ is used as a control channel to validate the measurement procedure. The gradient of the time-dependent $CP$ asymmetry, $ΔY$, in $D^0 \rightarrow π^+ π^- π^0$ decays is measured to be \begin{equation*}
ΔY = (-1.3 \pm 6.3 \pm 2.4) \times 10^{-4}, \end{equation*} where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic, which is compatible with $CP$ conservation.

This study investigates the impact of spacecraft positioning and trajectory on in situ signatures of coronal mass ejections (CMEs). Employing the 3DCORE model, a 3D flux rope model that can generate in situ profiles for any given point in space and time, we conduct forward modeling to analyze such signatures for various latitudinal and longitudinal positions, with respect to the flux rope apex, at 0.8~au. Using this approach, we explore the appearance of the resulting in situ profiles for different flux rope types, with different handedness and inclination angles, for both high and low twist CMEs. Our findings reveal that CMEs exhibit distinct differences in signatures between apex hits and flank encounters, with the latter displaying elongated profiles with reduced rotation. However, constant, non-rotating in situ signatures are only observed for flank encounters of low twist CMEs, suggesting the existence of untwisted magnetic field lines within CME legs. Additionally, our study confirms the unambiguous appearance of different flux rope types in in situ signatures, contributing to the broader understanding and interpretation of observational data. Given the model assumptions, this may refute trajectory effects to be the cause for mismatching flux rope types as identified in solar signatures. While acknowledging limitations inherent in our model, such as the assumption of constant twist and non-deformable torus-like shape, we still draw relevant conclusions within the context of global magnetic field structures of CMEs and the potential for distinguishing flux rope types based on in situ observations.

The ratio of branching fractions of the $B^{+}\to D^{*-}D^{+}_{s}π^{+}$ and $B^{0}\to D^{*-}D^{+}_{s}$ decays is measured to be $0.173\pm 0.006\pm 0.010$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. Using partially reconstructed $D^{*+}_{s}\to D^{+}_{s}γ$ and $D^{+}_{s}π^{0}$ decays, the ratio of branching fractions between the $B^{+}\to D^{*-}D^{*+}_{s}π^{+}$ and $B^{+}\to D^{*-}D^{+}_{s}π^{+}$ decays is determined as $1.31\pm 0.07\pm 0.14$. An amplitude analysis of the $B^{+}\to D^{*-}D^{+}_{s}π^{+}$ decay is performed for the first time, revealing dominant contributions from known excited charm resonances decaying to the $D^{*-}π^{+}$ final state. No significant evidence of exotic contributions in the $D^{+}_{s}π^{+}$ or $D^{*-}D^{+}_{s}$ channels is found. The fit fraction of the scalar state $T_{c\bar{s} 0}^{\ast}(2900)^{++}$ observed in the $B^{+}\to D^{-}D^{+}_{s}π^{+}$ decay is determined to be less than 2.3% at a 90% confidence level.

A method is presented to reconstruct charged particles with lifetimes between 10 ps and 10 ns, which considers a combination of their decay products and the partial tracks created by the initial charged particle. Using the $Ξ^-$ baryon as a benchmark, the method is demonstrated with simulated events and proton-proton collision data at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.0 fb${}^{-1}$ collected with the LHCb detector in 2018. Significant improvements in the angular resolution and the signal purity are obtained. The method is implemented as part of the LHCb Run 3 event trigger in a set of requirements to select detached hyperons. This is the first demonstration of the applicability of this approach at the LHC, and the first to show its scaling with instantaneous luminosity.

Using the $B^0 \to D^+ D^- K_{\mathrm{S}}^0$ decay as a reference channel, the product of the relative production cross-section and decay branching fractions is measured to be $$ {\cal R}=\frac{σ_{Λ^0_b}}{σ_{B^0}} \times \frac{{\cal B}(Λ^0_b \to D^+ D^- Λ)}{{\cal B}(B^0 \to D^+ D^- K_{\mathrm{S}}^0)}=0.179 \pm 0.022 \pm 0.014 $$ where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The known branching fraction of the reference channel, ${\cal B}(B^0 \to D^+ D^- K_{\mathrm{S}}^0)$, and the cross-section ratio, $σ_{Λ^0_b} / σ_{B^0}$, previously measured by $\mathrm{LHCb}$ are used to derive the branching fraction of the $Λ^0_b \to D^+ D^- Λ$ decay $$ {\cal B}(Λ^0_b \to D^+ D^- Λ)=(1.24 \pm 0.15 \pm 0.10 \pm 0.28 \pm 0.11) \times 10^{-4}, $$ where the third and fourth contributions are due to uncertainties of ${\cal B}(B^0 \to D^+ D^- K_{\mathrm{S}}^0)$ and $σ_{Λ^0_b} / σ_{B^0}$, respectively. Inspection of the $D^+ Λ$ and $D^+ D^-$ invariant-mass distributions suggests a rich presence of intermediate resonances in the decay. The $Λ^0_b \to D^{*+} D^- Λ$ decay is also observed for the first time as a partially reconstructed component in the $D^+ D^- Λ$ invariant mass spectrum.

We present a statistical investigation of the radial evolution of 28 interplanetary coronal mass ejections (ICMEs), measured in situ by the Parker Solar Probe (PSP) spacecraft from 2018 October to 2022 August. First, by analyzing the radial distribution of ICME classification based on magnetic hodograms, we find that coherent configurations are more likely to be observed close to the Sun. In contrast, more complex configurations are observed farther out. We also notice that the post-ICME magnetic field is more impacted following an ICME passage at larger heliocentric distances. Second, with a multi-linear robust regression, we derive a slower magnetic ejecta (ME) expansion rate within 1~au compared to previous statistical estimates. Then, investigating the magnetic field fluctuations within ICME sheaths, we see that these fluctuations are strongly coupled to the relative magnetic field strength gradient from the upstream solar wind to the ME. Third, we identify ME expansion as an important factor in forming sheaths. Finally, we determine the distortion parameter (DiP) which is a measure of magnetic field asymmetry in an ME. We discover lower overall asymmetries within MEs. We reveal that even for expanding MEs, the time duration over which an ME is sampled does not correlate with DiP values, indicating that the aging effect is not the sole contributor to the observed ME asymmetries.

A challenge for scalability of demand-responsive, elastic optical Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) and Flexgrid networks is the computational complexity of allocating many optical routes on large networks. We demonstrate that demand satisfaction problems in communication networks can be formulated as quadratic unconstrained binary optimisation (QUBO) problems, and solved using a hybrid quantum annealer. Efficient encodings are developed which solve both unicast and multicast multicommodity-flow problems, while also adhering to individual requirements for maximum latency and resilience for each route. We present several QUBO formulations and analyse the qubit scaling. We demonstrate solutions using a hybrid solver, D-Wave Quantum Advantage QPU. Progress in generating optimal solutions with efficient use of computational resources will be beneficial to telecoms operators, enabling them to run dynamic optical network infrastructures which use resources efficiently, are resilient to local faults and cyber-attacks, and can be elastically responsive to demands.

The ratio of branching fractions between $B^{0} \rightarrow J/ψπ^{0}$ and $B^{+} \rightarrow J/ψK^{*+}$ decays is measured with proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb$^{-1}$. The measured value is $\frac{\mathcal{B}_{B^{0} \rightarrow J/ψπ^{0}}}{\mathcal{B}_{B^{+} \rightarrow J/ψK^{*+}}} = (1.153 \pm 0.053 \pm 0.048 ) \times 10^{-2}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The branching fraction for $B^{0} \rightarrow J/ψπ^{0}$ decays is determined using the branching fraction of the normalisation channel, resulting in $\mathcal{B}_{B^{0} \rightarrow J/ψπ^{0}} = (1.670 \pm 0.077 \pm 0.069 \pm 0.095) \times 10^{-5}$, where the last uncertainty corresponds to that of the external input. This result is consistent with the current world average value and competitive with the most precise single measurement to date.

We study the problem of approximately counting the number of list packings of a graph. The analogous problem for usual vertex coloring and list coloring has attracted a lot of attention. For list packing the setup is similar but we seek a full decomposition of the lists of colors into pairwise-disjoint proper list colorings. In particular, the existence of a list packing implies the existence of a list coloring. Recent works on list packing have focused on existence or extremal results of on the number of list packings, but here we turn to the algorithmic aspects of counting.
In graphs of maximum degree $Δ$ and when the number of colors is at least $Ω(Δ^2)$, we give an FPRAS based on rapid mixing of a natural Markov chain (the Glauber dynamics) which we analyze with the path coupling technique. Some motivation for our work is the investigation of an atypical spin system, one where the number of spins for each vertex is much larger than the graph degree.

In a combined analysis, these measurements allow for four solutions in the parameter space, only one of which is consistent with the world average.

Audio embeddings enable large scale comparisons of the similarity of audio files for applications such as search and recommendation. Due to the subjectivity of audio similarity, it can be desirable to design systems that answer not only whether audio is similar, but similar in what way (e.g., wrt. tempo, mood or genre). Previous works have proposed disentangled embedding spaces where subspaces representing specific, yet possibly correlated, attributes can be weighted to emphasize those attributes in downstream tasks. However, no research has been conducted into the independence of these subspaces, nor their manipulation, in order to retrieve tracks that are similar but different in a specific way. Here, we explore the manipulation of tempo in embedding spaces as a case-study towards this goal. We propose tempo translation functions that allow for efficient manipulation of tempo within a pre-existing embedding space whilst maintaining other properties such as genre. As this translation is specific to tempo it enables retrieval of tracks that are similar but have specifically different tempi. We show that such a function can be used as an efficient data augmentation strategy for both training of downstream tempo predictors, and improved nearest neighbor retrieval of properties largely independent of tempo.

This paper addresses the problem of global tempo estimation in musical audio. Given that annotating tempo is time-consuming and requires certain musical expertise, few publicly available data sources exist to train machine learning models for this task. Towards alleviating this issue, we propose a fully self-supervised approach that does not rely on any human labeled data. Our method builds on the fact that generic (music) audio embeddings already encode a variety of properties, including information about tempo, making them easily adaptable for downstream tasks. While recent work in self-supervised tempo estimation aimed to learn a tempo specific representation that was subsequently used to train a supervised classifier, we reformulate the task into the binary classification problem of predicting whether a target track has the same or a different tempo compared to a reference. While the former still requires labeled training data for the final classification model, our approach uses arbitrary unlabeled music data in combination with time-stretching for model training as well as a small set of synthetically created reference samples for predicting the final tempo. Evaluation of our approach in comparison with the state-of-the-art reveals highly competitive performance when the constraint of finding the precise tempo octave is relaxed.

Audio embeddings are crucial tools in understanding large catalogs of music. Typically embeddings are evaluated on the basis of the performance they provide in a wide range of downstream tasks, however few studies have investigated the local properties of the embedding spaces themselves which are important in nearest neighbor algorithms, commonly used in music search and recommendation. In this work we show that when learning audio representations on music datasets via contrastive learning, musical properties that are typically homogeneous within a track (e.g., key and tempo) are reflected in the locality of neighborhoods in the resulting embedding space. By applying appropriate data augmentation strategies, localisation of such properties can not only be reduced but the localisation of other attributes is increased. For example, locality of features such as pitch and tempo that are less relevant to non-expert listeners, may be mitigated while improving the locality of more salient features such as genre and mood, achieving state-of-the-art performance in nearest neighbor retrieval accuracy. Similarly, we show that the optimal selection of data augmentation strategies for contrastive learning of music audio embeddings is dependent on the downstream task, highlighting this as an important embedding design decision.

The European Space Agency's Euclid mission is one of the upcoming generation of large-scale cosmology surveys, which will map the large-scale structure in the Universe with unprecedented precision. The development and validation of the SGS pipeline requires state-of-the-art simulations with a high level of complexity and accuracy that include subtle instrumental features not accounted for previously as well as faster algorithms for the large-scale production of the expected Euclid data products. In this paper, we present the Euclid SGS simulation framework as applied in a large-scale end-to-end simulation exercise named Science Challenge 8. Our simulation pipeline enables the swift production of detailed image simulations for the construction and validation of the Euclid mission during its qualification phase and will serve as a reference throughout operations. Our end-to-end simulation framework starts with the production of a large cosmological N-body & mock galaxy catalogue simulation. We perform a selection of galaxies down to I_E=26 and 28 mag, respectively, for a Euclid Wide Survey spanning 165 deg^2 and a 1 deg^2 Euclid Deep Survey. We build realistic stellar density catalogues containing Milky Way-like stars down to H<26. Using the latest instrumental models for both the Euclid instruments and spacecraft as well as Euclid-like observing sequences, we emulate with high fidelity Euclid satellite imaging throughout the mission's lifetime. We present the SC8 data set consisting of overlap** visible and near-infrared Euclid Wide Survey and Euclid Deep Survey imaging and low-resolution spectroscopy along with ground-based. This extensive data set enables end-to-end testing of the entire ground segment data reduction and science analysis pipeline as well as the Euclid mission infrastructure, paving the way to future scientific and technical developments and enhancements.

The ratio of production cross-sections of $ψ(2S)$ over $J/ψ$ mesons as a function of charged-particle multiplicity in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV is measured with a data sample collected by the LHCb detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 658 pb$^{-1}$. The ratio is measured for both prompt and non-prompt $ψ(2S)$ and $J/ψ$ mesons. When there is an overlap between the rapidity ranges over which multiplicity and charmonia production are measured, a multiplicity-dependent modification of the ratio is observed for prompt mesons. No significant multiplicity dependence is found when the ranges do not overlap. For non-prompt production, the $ψ(2S)-to-J/ψ$ production ratio is roughly independent of multiplicity irrespective of the rapidity range over which the multiplicity is measured.
The results are compared to predictions of the co-mover model and agree well except in the low multiplicity region. The ratio of production cross-sections of $ψ(2S)$ over $J/ψ$ mesons are cross-checked with other measurements in di-lepton channels and found to be compatible.

A study of $B_c^+ \rightarrow χ_c π^+$ decays is reported using proton-proton collision data, collected with the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9fb$^{-1}$. The decay $B_c^+ \rightarrow χ_{c2} π^+$ is observed for the first time, with a significance exceeding seven standard deviations. The relative branching fraction with respect to the $B_c^+ \rightarrow J/ψπ^+$ decay is measured to be $$ \frac{\mathcal{B}_{B_c^+ \rightarrow χ_{c2} π^+}}
{\mathcal{B}_{B_c^+ \rightarrow J/ψπ^+}} =
0.37 \pm 0.06 \pm 0.02 \pm 0.01 , $$ where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third is due to the knowledge of the $χ_c \rightarrow J/ψγ$ branching fraction. No significant $B_c^+ \rightarrow χ_{c1} π^+$ signal is observed and an upper limit for the relative branching fraction for the $B_c^+ \rightarrow χ_{c1} π^+$ and $B_c^+ \rightarrow χ_{c2} π^+$ decays of $$ \frac{\mathcal{B}_{B_c^+ \rightarrow χ_{c1} π^+}}
{\mathcal{B}_{B_c^+ \rightarrow χ_{c2} π^+}} < 0.49 $$ is set at the 90\% confidence level.

The analysis uses proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector between 2011 and 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb$^{-1}$. No evidence for an excess of signal events over background is observed and an upper limit is set on the branching fraction ratio ${\cal B}(B_c^+\toπ^+μ^+μ^-)/{\cal B}(B_c^+\to J/ψπ^+) < 2.1\times 10^{-4}$ at $90\%$ confidence level. Additionally, an updated measurement of the ratio of the $B_c^+\toψ(2S)π^+$ and $B_c^+\to J/ψπ^+$ branching fractions is reported. The ratio ${\cal B}(B_c^+\toψ(2S)π^+)/{\cal B}(B_c^+\to J/ψπ^+)$ is measured to be $0.254\pm 0.018 \pm 0.003 \pm 0.005$, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, and the third is due to the uncertainties on the branching fractions of the leptonic $J/ψ$ and $ψ(2S)$ decays. This measurement is the most precise to date and is consistent with previous LHCb results.

An amplitude analysis of the $B^{0}\to K^{*0}μ^+μ^-$ decay is presented using a dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $4.7$ fb$^{-1}$ of $pp$ collision data collected with the LHCb experiment. For the first time, the coefficients associated to short-distance physics effects, sensitive to processes beyond the Standard Model, are extracted directly from the data through a $q^2$-unbinned amplitude analysis, where $q^2$ is the $μ^+μ^-$ invariant mass squared. Long-distance contributions, which originate from non-factorisable QCD processes, are systematically investigated and the most accurate assessment to date of their impact on the physical observables is obtained. The pattern of measured corrections to the short-distance couplings is found to be consistent with previous analyses of $b$- to $s$-quark transitions, with the largest discrepancy from the Standard Model predictions found to be at the level of 1.8 standard deviations. The global significance of the observed differences in the decay is 1.4 standard deviations.

An amplitude analysis of the $B^0 \to K^{*0} μ^+μ^-$ decay is presented. The analysis is based on data collected by the LHCb experiment from proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 7,\,8$ and $13$ TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $4.7$ fb$^{-1}$. For the first time, Wilson coefficients and non-local hadronic contributions are accessed directly from the unbinned data, where the latter are parameterised as a function of $q^2$ with a polynomial expansion. Wilson coefficients and non-local hadronic parameters are determined under two alternative hypotheses: the first relies on experimental information alone, while the second one includes information from theoretical predictions for the non-local contributions. Both models obtain similar results for the parameters of interest. The overall level of compatibility with the Standard Model is evaluated to be between 1.8 and 1.9 standard deviations when looking at the $\mathcal{C}_9$ Wilson coefficient alone, and between 1.3 and 1.4 standard deviations when considering the full set of $\mathcal{C}_9, \, \mathcal{C}_{10}, \, \mathcal{C}_9^\prime$ and $\mathcal{C}_{10}^\prime$ Wilson coefficients. The ranges reflect the theoretical assumptions made in the analysis.

In this work, we look for evidence of a non-unity mass ratio binary dwarf galaxy merger in the Sagittarius stream. Simulations of such a merger show that, upon merging with a host, particles from the less-massive galaxy will often mostly be found in the extended stream and less-so in the central remnant. Motivated by these simulations, we use APOGEE DR17 chemical data from approximately 1100 stars in both the Sagittarius remnant and stream to look for evidence of contamination from a second dwarf galaxy. This search is initially justified by the idea that disrupted binary dwarf galaxies provide a possible explanation of the Sagittarius bifurcation, and the location of the massive, chemically peculiar globular cluster NGC 2419 found within the stream of Sagittarius. We separate the Sagittarius data into its remnant and stream and compare the [Mg/Fe] content of the two populations. In particular, we select [Mg/Fe] to search for hints of unique star formation histories among our sample stars. Comparing the stream and remnant populations, we find regions have distinct [Mg/Fe] distributions for fixed [Fe/H], in addition to distinct chemical tracks in [Mg/Fe] -- [Fe/H] abundance space. We show that there are large regions of the tracks for which the probability of the two samples being drawn from the same distribution is very low (p < 0.05). Furthermore, we show that the two tracks can be fit with unique star formation histories using simple, one zone galactic chemical evolution models. While more work must be done to discern whether the hypothesis presented here is true, our work hints at the possibility that Sagittarius may consist of two dwarf galaxy progenitors.

The Parker Solar Probe (PSP) and Solar Orbiter (SolO) missions opened a new observational window in the inner heliosphere, which is finally accessible to direct measurements. On September 05, 2022, a coronal mass ejection (CME)-driven interplanetary (IP) shock has been observed as close as 0.07 au by PSP. The CME then reached SolO, which was well radially-aligned at 0.7 au, thus providing us with the opportunity to study the shock properties at so different heliocentric distances. We characterize the shock, investigate its typical parameters and compare its small-scale features at both locations. Using the PSP observations, we investigate how magnetic switchbacks and ion cyclotron waves are processed upon shock crossing. We find that switchbacks preserve their V--B correlation while compressed upon the shock passage, and that the signature of ion cyclotron waves disappears downstream of the shock. By contrast, the SolO observations reveal a very structured shock transition, with a population of shock-accelerated protons of up to about 2 MeV, showing irregularities in the shock downstream, which we correlate with solar wind structures propagating across the shock. At SolO, we also report the presence of low-energy ($\sim$ 100 eV) electrons scattering due to upstream shocklets. This study elucidates how the local features of IP shocks and their environments can be very different as they propagate through the heliosphere.

Coronal mass ejections (CMEs) are large-scale eruptions with a typical radial size at 1 au of 0.21 au but their angular width in interplanetary space is still mostly unknown, especially for the magnetic ejecta (ME) part of the CME. We take advantage of STEREO-A angular separation of 20$^\circ$-60$^\circ$ from the Sun-Earth line from October 2020 to August 2022, and perform a two-part study to constrain the angular width of MEs in the ecliptic plane: a) we study all CMEs that are observed remotely to propagate between the Sun-STEREO-A and the Sun-Earth lines and determine how many impact one or both spacecraft in situ, and b) we investigate all in situ measurements at STEREO-A or at L1 of CMEs during the same time period to quantify how many are measured by the two spacecraft. A key finding is that, out of 21 CMEs propagating within 30$^\circ$ of either spacecraft, only four impacted both spacecraft and none provided clean magnetic cloud-like signatures at both spacecraft. Combining the two approaches, we conclude that the typical angular width of a ME at 1 au is $\sim$ 20$^\circ$-30$^\circ$, or 2-3 times less than often assumed and consistent with a 2:1 elliptical cross-section of an ellipsoidal ME. We discuss the consequences of this finding for future multi-spacecraft mission designs and for the coherence of CMEs.

The cross-section of this process is measured to be 16.36$\pm$0.28(stat)$\pm$0.88(syst) nb. The contributions from single-parton scattering and double-parton scattering are separated based on the dependence of the cross-section on the absolute rapidity difference $Δy$ between the two $J/ψ$ mesons. The effective cross-section of double-parton scattering is measured to be $σ_{\text{eff}}=$13.1$\pm$1.8(stat)$\pm$2.3(syst) mb. The distribution of the azimuthal angle $φ_{\text{CS}}$ of one of the $J/ψ$ mesons in the Collins-Soper frame and the $p_{\text{T}}$-spectrum of the $J/ψ$ pairs are also measured for the study of the gluon transverse-momentum dependent distributions inside protons. The extracted values of $\langle\cos2φ_{\text{CS}}\rangle$ and $\langle\cos4φ_{\text{CS}}\rangle$ are consistent with zero, but the presence of azimuthal asymmetry at a few percent level is allowed.

Simultaneous in situ measurements of coronal mass ejections (CMEs), including both plasma and magnetic field, by two spacecraft in radial alignment have been extremely rare. Here, we report on one such CME measured by Solar Orbiter (SolO) and Wind on 2021 November 3--5, while the spacecraft were radially separated by a heliocentric distance of 0.13 au and angularly by only 2.2°. We focus on the magnetic cloud (MC) part of the CME. We find notable changes in the R and N magnetic field components and in the speed profiles inside the MC between SolO and Wind. We observe a greater speed at the spacecraft further away from the Sun without any clear compression signatures. Since spacecraft are close to each other and computing fast magnetosonic wave speed inside the MC we rule out temporal evolution as the reason on the observed differences suggesting that spatial variations over 2.2° of the MC structure are at the heart of the observed discrepancies. Moreover, using shock properties at SolO, we forecast an arrival time 2h30 too late for a shock that is just 5h31 away hours from Wind. Predicting the north-south component of the magnetic field at Wind from SolO measurements leads to a relative error of 55 %. These results show that even angular separations as low as 2.2° (or 0.03 au in arclength) between spacecraft can have a large impact on the observed CME properties, rising up the issue of the resolutions of current CME models and potentially affecting our forecasting capabilities.
