Title:On the scaling of feedback bits to achieve the full multiplexing gain over the Gaussian broadcast channel using DPC
View PDFAbstract: The Gaussian broadcast channel (GBC) with $K$ transmit antennas and $\frac{K}{r}$ users with $r$ receive antennas each is considered for the case in which the channel state information is obtained at the transmitter via a finite-rate feedback link of capacity $B$ bits per user. It is proved that if $B$ is scaled at the rate of $\alpha r(K-r) \log P$, where $P$ is the transmit power and $\alpha \in [0,1]$, then using dirty paper coding (DPC), the multiplexing gain of $\alpha r$ can be achieved for each user. Furthermore, in the special case of $r = 1$ and assuming that the technique of random vector quantization is used for quantizing the channel vectors, it is shown that if $B$ is scaled at the rate of $\alpha (K-1) \log P $ then using DPC, the multiplexing gain of at most $\alpha$ can be achieved for each user.
