The Cellular Potts Model (CPM) is a widely used simulation paradigm for systems of interacting cells that has been used to study scenarios ranging from plant development to morphogenesis, tumour growth and cell migration. Despite their wide use, CPM simulations are considered too computationally intensive for three-dimensional (3D) models at organ scale. CPMs have been difficult to parallelise because of their inherently sequential update scheme. Here, we present a Graphical Processing Unit (GPU)-based parallelisation scheme that preserves local update statistics and is up to 3-4 orders of magnitude faster than serial implementations. We show several examples where our scheme preserves simulation behaviors that are drastically altered by existing parallelisation methods. We use our framework to construct tissue-scale models of liver and lymph node environments containing millions of cells that are directly based on microscopy-imaged tissue structures. Thus, our GPU-based CPM framework enables in silico studies of multicellular systems of unprecedented scale.

Unfolded protein aggregation in cellular system is a problem causing various types of diseases depending on which type unfolded proteins aggregate. This phenomenon of aggregation may take place during production, storage, shipment or delivery in the cellular medium. In the present work, we studied a simplified and extended version of unfolded protein aggregation model by Lumry and Eyring using stochastic approach. We solved analytically the Master equation of the model for the probability distribution $P(x,t)$ of the unfolded protein population and the solution was found to be time dependent complex binomial distribution. In the large population limit $P(x,t)\sim Λ(x,t)\times Pois(x,t)$. Further, the distribution became Normal distribution at large population and mean of the distribution limit: $P(x,t)\simΛ(x,t)\times N(\langle qx\rangle,\langle qx\rangle)$. The fluctuations inherent in the dynamics measured by Fano factor can have sub-Poisson, Poisson and super-Poisson at different situations.

This paper is concerned with an analysis of the dynamics of a non-autonomous, single population age based growth model with harvesting formulation. First, we derive sufficient conditions for permanence and positive invariance. Then, by constructing a scalar function, namely the Lyapunov function, we arrive at a suitable criterion for global attractivity. With the help of Brouwer fixed point and continuation theorems, we obtain constraints for the existence of a positive periodic solution. Then we prove that there exists only one solution which is almost periodic in nature that is distinct from every other solution. Further, we carry out a numerical simulation to support the analytical findings.

We perform a detailed analysis of the behaviour of a non-autonomous prey-predator model where age based growth with age discriminatory harvesting in prey and predator's reliance upon alternative food in the absence of that particular prey are considered. We begin by deriving certain sufficient conditions for permanence and positive invariance and then proceed to construct a Lyapunov function to derive some constraints for global attractivity. With the help of continuation theorem we arrive at the best fit criterion to prove the occurrence of a positive periodic solution. Moreover, using Arzela-Ascoli theorem we formulate a proof for a unique positive solution to be almost periodic and we carry out numerical simulation to verify the analytical findings. With the aid of graphs and tables we show the nature of the prey-predator system in response to the alternative food and delays.
