Two-dimensional materials with Rashba split bands near the Fermi level are key to develo** upcoming next-generation spintronics. They enable generating, detecting, and manipulating spin currents without an external magnetic field. Here, we propose BiAs as a novel layered semiconductor with large Rashba splitting in bulk and monolayer forms. Using first-principles calculations, we determined the lowest energy structure of BiAs and its basic electronic properties. Bulk BiAs has a layered crystal structure with two atoms in a rhombohedral primitive cell, similar to the parent Bi and As elemental phases. It is a semiconductor with a narrow and indirect band gap. The spin-orbit coupling leads to Rashba-Dresselhaus spin splitting and characteristic spin texture around the L-point in the Brillouin zone of the hexagonal conventional unit cell, with Rashba energy and Rashba coupling constant for valence (conduction) band of $E_R$= 137 meV (93 meV) and $α_R$= 6.05 eVÅ~(4.6 eVÅ). In monolayer form (i.e., composed of a BiAs bilayer), BiAs has a much larger and direct band gap at $Γ$, with a circular spin texture characteristic of a pure Rashba effect. The Rashba energy $E_R$= 18 meV and Rashba coupling constant $α_R$= 1.67 eVÅ of monolayer BiAs are quite large compared to other known 2D materials, and these values are shown to increase under tensile biaxial strain.

Semi-transparent photovoltaic devices for building integrated applications have the potential to provide simultaneous power generation and natural light penetration. CuIn$_{1-x}$Ga$_x$Se$_2$ (CIGS) has been established as a mature technology for thin-film photovoltaics, however, its potential for Semi-Transparent Photovoltaics (STPV) is yet to be explored. In this paper, we present its carrier transport physics explaining the trend seen in recently published experiments. STPV requires deposition of films of only a few hundred nanometers to make them transparent and manifests several unique properties compared to a conventional thin-film solar cell. Our analysis shows that the short-circuit current, Jsc is dominated by carriers generated in the depletion region, making it nearly independent of bulk and back-surface recombination. The bulk recombination, which limits the open-circuit voltage Voc, appears to be higher than usual attributable to numerous grain boundaries. When the absorber layer is reduced below 500 nm, grain size reduces resulting in more grain boundaries and higher resistance. This produces an inverse relationship between series resistance and absorber thickness. We also present a thickness-dependent model of shunt resistance showing its impact in these ultra-thin devices. For various scenarios of bulk and interface recombinations, shunt and series resistances, AVT and composition of CuIn$_{1-x}$Ga$_x$Se$_2$, we project the efficiency limit which - for most practical cases - is found to be $\leq$10% for AVT $\geq$25%.

We introduce an exact analytical solution of the homogeneous space-fractional Helmholtz equation in cylindrical coordinates. This solution, called vector Space-Fractional Bessel Beam (SFBB), has been established from the Lorenz' gauge condition and Hertz vector transformations. We perform scalar and vector wave analysis focusing on electromagnetics applications, especially in cases where the dimensions of the beam are comparable to its wavelength $(k_r \approx k)$. The propagation characteristics such as the diffraction and self-healing properties have been explored with particular emphasis on the polarization states and transverse propagation modes. Due to continuous order orbital angular momentum dependence, this beam can serve as a bridge between the ordinary integer Bessel beam and the fractional Bessel beam and, thus, can be considered as a generalized solution of the space-fractional wave equation that is applicable in both integer and fractional dimensional spaces. The proposed SFBBs provide better control over the beam characteristics and can be readily generated using Digital Micromirror Devices (DMDs), Spatial Light Modulators (SLMs), metasurfaces, or spiral phase plates. Our findings offer new insights on electromagnetic wave propagation, thus paving a new route towards novel applications in optical tweezers, refractive index sensing, optical trap**, and optical communications.

Binding energy calculation in two-dimensional (2D) materials is crucial in determining their electronic and optical properties pertaining to enhanced Coulomb interactions between charge carriers due to quantum confinement and reduced dielectric screening. Based on full solutions of the Schrödinger equation in screened hydrogen model with a modified Coulomb potential ($1/r^{β-2}$), we present a generalized and analytical scaling law for exciton binding energy, $E_β = E_{0}\times \big (\,aβ^{b}+c\big )\, (μ/ε^{2})$, where $β$ is a fractional-dimension parameter accounted for the reduced dielectric screening. The model is able to provide accurate binding energies, benchmarked with the reported Bethe-Salpeter Equation (BSE) and experimental data, for 58 mono-layer 2D and 8 bulk materials respectively through $β$. For a given material, $β$ is varied from $β$ = 3 for bulk 3D materials to a value lying in the range 2.55$-$2.7 for 2D mono-layer materials. With $β_{\text{mean}}$ = 2.625, our model improves the average relative mean square error by 3 times in comparison to existing models. The results can be used for Coulomb engineering of exciton binding energies in the optimal design of 2D materials.

Spatio-temporal analysis of signal provides more advantages over conventional uni-dimensional approaches by harnessing the information from both the temporal and spatial domains. Herein, we propose an spatio-temporal extension of RBF neural networks for the prediction of chaotic time series. The proposed algorithm utilizes the concept of time-space orthogonality and separately deals with the temporal dynamics and spatial non-linearity(complexity) of the chaotic series. The proposed RBF architecture is explored for the prediction of Mackey-Glass time series and results are compared with the standard RBF. The spatio-temporal RBF is shown to out perform the standard RBFNN by achieving significantly reduced estimation error.

The present study is elaborated to investigate the validity of thermodynamical laws in a modified teleparallel gravity based on higher-order derivatives terms of torsion scalar. For this purpose, we consider spatially flat FRW model filled with perfect fluid matter contents. Firstly, we explore the possibility of existence of equilibrium as well as non-equilibrium picture of thermodynamics in this extended version of teleprallel gravity. Here, we present the first law and the generalized second law of thermodynamics (GSLT) using Hubble horizon. It is found that non-equilibrium description of thermodynamics exists in this theory with the presence of an extra term called as entropy production term. We also establish GSLT using the logarithmic corrected entropy. Further, by taking the equilibrium picture, we discuss validity of GSLT at Hubble horizon for two $F$ different models. Using Gibbs law and the assumption that temperature of matter within Hubble horizon is similar to itself, we use different cases for choices scale factors to discuss the GSLT validity graphically in all scenarios. It is found that the GSLT is satisfied for a specified range of free parameters in all cases.

The surface morphology of metal influences its optical absorptivity. Recent experiments have demonstrated that the femtosecond laser induced surface structures on metals could be dynamically controlled by the fluence of laser and the number of pulses. In this paper, we formulate an analytical model to calculate the optical absorption of a rough metallic surface by modeling the roughness as a fractal slab. For a given experimental image of the surface roughness, we characterize the roughness with a fractal parameter by using box-counting method. With this parameter as input, we calculate the absorption of 800 nm laser pulse im**ing on gold, copper and platinum, and the calculated results show excellent agreements. In terms of physics, our model can be viewed as a fractional version of the Fresnel coefficients, and it will be useful for designing suitable surface structures to tune the light absorption on metals from purely reflective to highly absorptive based on different applications.

Here, $T$ is the torsion scalar in teleparallel gravity and $R$ is the scalar curvature. For this purpose, we assume flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) geometry filled with perfect fluid matter contents. We study two cases in this gravity: One is for a general function of $f(T,B)$, and the other is for a particular form of it given by the term of $-T+F(B)$. We also formulate the general energy constraints for these cases. Furthermore, we explore the validity of the bounds on the energy conditions by specifying different forms of$f(T,B)$ and $F(B)$ function obtained by the reconstruction scheme for de Sitter, power-law, the $Λ$CDM and Phantom cosmological models. Moreover, the possible constraints on the free model parameters are examined with the help of region graphs. In addition, we explore the evolution of the effective equation of state (EoS) $ω_{eff}$ for the universe and compare theoretical results with the observational data. It is found that the effective EoS represents the phantom phase or the quintessence one in the accelerating universe in all of the cases consistent with the observational data.

Charge transport properties in organic semiconductors are determined by two kinds of microscopic disorders, namely energetic disorder related to the distribution of localized states and the spatial disorder related to the morphological features of the material. From a semi-classical picture, the charge transport properties are crucially determined by both the carrier mobility and the electrostatic field distribution in the material. Although the effect of disorders on carrier mobility has been widely studied, how electrostatic field distribution is distorted by the presence of disorders and its effect on charge transport remain unanswered. In this paper, we present a modified space-charge-limited current (SCLC) model for spatially disordered organic semiconductors based on the fractional-dimensional electrostatic framework. We show that the thickness dependence of SCLC is related to the spatial disorder in organic semiconductors. For trap-free transport, the SCLC exhibits a modified thickness scaling of $J\propto L^{-3α}$, where the fractional-dimension parameter $α$ accounts for the spatial disorder in organic semiconductors. The trap-limited and field-dependent mobility are also shown to obey an $α$-dependent thickness scaling. The modified SCLC model shows a good agreement with several experiments on spatially disordered organic semiconductors. By applying this model to the experimental data, the standard charge transport parameters can be deduced with better accuracy than by using existing models.

An accelerated expansion phase is being experienced by the universe due to the presence of an unknown energy component known as dark energy (DE). To find out the cosmic evolution scientists ever tried to modify Einstein's gravitational theory and its unexplored parts. We also look forward to address the same problem with a different approach based on interaction between matter and geometry. For this purpose we consider $f(R,T,Q)$ modified theory (where $R$ is the Ricci Scalar, $T$ is the trace of energy-momentum tensor (EMT) $T_{uv}$ and $Q=R_{uv}T^{uv}$ is interaction of EMT $T_{μν}$ and Ricci Tensor $R_{uv}$). We formulate modified field equations in the background of Friedmann-Lema$\hat{i}$tre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) model which is defined as $ds^2=dt^2-a(t)^2(dx^2+dy^2+dz^2 )$, where $a(t)$ represents the scale factor. In this formalism energy density is found using covariant divergence of modified field equations. $ρ$ involves a contribution from non-minimal matter geometry coupling which helps to study different cosmic eras based on equation of state (EOS). Furthermore, we apply the energy bounds to constrain the model parameters establishing a pathway to discuss the cosmic evolution for best suitable parameters in accordance with recent observations.

The theories of field electron emission from perfectly planar and smooth canonical surfaces are well understood, but they are not suitable for describing emission from rough, irregular surfaces arising in modern nanoscale electron sources. Moreover, the existing models rely on Sommerfeld's free-electron theory for the description of electronic distribution which is not a valid assumption for modern materials with nonparabolic energy dispersion. In this paper, we derive analytically a generalized Fowler-Nordheim (FN) type equation that takes into account the reduced space-dimensionality seen by the quantum mechanically tunneling electron at a rough, irregular emission surface. We also consider the effects of non-parabolic energy dispersion on field-emission from narrow-gap semiconductors and few-layer graphene using Kane's band model. The traditional FN equation is shown to be a limiting case of our model in the limit of a perfectly flat surface of a material with parabolic dispersion. The fractional-dimension parameter used in this model can be experimentally calculated from appropriate current-voltage data plot. By applying this model to experimental data, the standard field-emission parameters can be deduced with better accuracy than by using the conventional FN equation.

Current theoretical description of field-induced electron emission remains mostly bounded by the classic Fowler-Nordheim (FN) framework developed nearly one century ago. For the emerging class of two-dimensional (2D) materials, many basic assumptions of FN model become invalid due to their reduced dimensionality and exotic electronic properties. In this work, we develop analytical and semi-analytical models of field-induced vertical electron emission from the surface of 2D materials by explicitly taking into account the reduced dimensionality, non-parabolic energy spectrum, non-conserving in-plane electron momentum, finite-temperature and space-charge-limited effects. We show that the traditional FN law is no longer valid for 2D materials. The modified vertical field emission model developed here provides better agreement with experimental results. Intriguingly, a new high-field regime of \emph{saturated surface field emission} emerges due to the reduced dimensionality of 2D materials. A remarkable consequence of this saturated field emission effect is the absence of space-charge-limited current normally expected at high field in three-dimensional bulk material.

In this paper, we discuss spherically symmetric wormhole solutions in $f(R,T)$ modified theory of gravity by introducing well-known non-commutative geometry in terms of Gaussian and Lorentizian distributions of string theory. For some analytic discussion, we consider an interesting model of $f(R,T)$ gravity defined by $f(R,T)=f_{1}(R)+λT$. By taking two different choices for the function $f_{1}(R)$, that is, $f_{1}(R)=R$ and $f_{1}(R)=R+αR^{2}+γR^{n}$, we discuss the possible existence of wormhole solutions. In the presence of non-commutative Gaussian and Lorentizian distributions, we get exact and numerical solutions for both these models. By taking appropriate values of the free parameters, we discuss different properties of these wormhole models analytically and graphically. Further, using equilibrium condition, it is found that these solutions are stable. Also, we discuss the phenomenon of gravitational lensing for the exact wormhole model and it is found that the deflection angle diverges at wormhole throat.

In this setting, we have checked the anisotropic behavior, regularity conditions, stability and surface redshift of the compact stars.

Abstract:
The aim of this paper is to study the formation of anisotropic compact stars in modified $f(R)$ theory of gravity, which is the generalization of the Einstein's gravity. To this end, we have used the solution of Krori and Barua to the anisotropic distribution of matter in $f(R)$ gravity. Further, we have matched the interior solution with the exterior solution to determine the constants of Krori a…

To this end, we have used the solution of Krori and Barua to the anisotropic distribution of matter in $f(R)$ gravity. Further, we have matched the interior solution with the exterior solution to determine the constants of Krori and Barua solution. Finally the constant have been determined by using the data of compact compact stars like 4$U1820-30, Her X-1, SAX J 1808-3658$. Using the evaluated form of the solutions, we have discussed the regularity of matter components at the center as well as on the boundary, energy conditions, anisotropy, stability analysis and mass-radius relation of the compact stars 4$U1820-30$, $Her X-1$, $SAX J 1808-3658.$

Abstract:
This work is based on stability analysis of spherically symmetric collapsing star surrounding in locally anisotropic environment in $f(R,T)$ gravity, where $R$ is Ricci scalar and $T$ corresponds to the trace of energy momentum tensor. Field equations and dynamical equations are presented in the context of $f(R,T)$ gravity. Perturbation schem is employed on dynamical equations to find the collapse…

Perturbation schem is employed on dynamical equations to find the collapse equation. Furthermore, condition on adiabatic index $Γ$ is constructed for Newtonian and post-Newtonian eras to address instability problem. Some constraints on physical quantities are imposed to maintain stable stellar configuration. The results in this work are in accordance with $f(R)$ gravity for specific case.
