This study discusses acoustic dissipation, which contributes to inaccuracies in impedance tube measurements. To improve the accuracy of these measurements, this paper introduces a transfer function model that integrates diverse dissipation prediction models. Bayesian inference is used to estimate the important parameters included in these models, describing dissipation originating from various mechanisms, sound speed, and microphone positions. By using experimental measurements and considering a hypothetical air layer in front of a rigid termination as the material under test, Bayesian parameter estimation allows a substantial enhancement in characterization accuracy by incorporating the dissipation and sound speed estimates. This approach effectively minimizes residual absorption coefficients attributed to both boundary-layer effects and air medium relaxation. Incorporation of dissipation models leads to a substantial reduction (to 1%) in residual absorption coefficients. Moreover, the use of accurately estimated parameters further enhances the accuracy of actual tube measurements of materials using the two-microphone transfer function method.

A deep neural network is developed and trained on magnetic measurements (input) and EFIT poloidal magnetic flux (output) on the EAST tokamak. In optimizing the network architecture, we use automatic optimization in searching for the best hyperparameters, which helps the model generalize better. We compare the inner magnetic surfaces and last-closed-flux surfaces (LCFSs) with those from EFIT. We also calculated the normalized internal inductance, which is completely determined by the poloidal magnetic flux and can further reflect the accuracy of the prediction. The time evolution of the internal inductance in full discharges is compared with that provided by EFIT. All of the comparisons show good agreement, demonstrating the accuracy of the machine learning model, which has the high spatial resolution as the off-line EFIT while still meets the time constraint of real-time control.

The magnetic components of geodesic acoustic mode (GAM) are analytically investigated under the gyrokinetic framework with both the m=1 and m=2 harmonics are considered, where m is the poloidal mode number. With the quasi-neutrality condition and Ampere's law, the amplitudes of various poloidal magnetic components are derived. It is shown that both m=1 and m=2 magnetic components exist and are dominated by the cosine and sine components, respectively. In addition, it is found that the amplitudes of all magnetic components increase with respect to the ratio of plasma pressure to magnetic pressure \b{eta} and safety factor q. Most importantly, the amplitude of m=1 magnetic component is significantly enhanced due to the coupling of magnetic drift frequency with the first and second harmonics of the distribution functions, thus it can be comparable to that of m=2 magnetic component under certain conditions.

Turbulence plays a very important role in determining the transport of energy and particles in tokamaks. This work is devoted to studying the chaotic diffusion in multi-scale turbulence in the context of the nonlinear wave-particle interaction. Turbulent waves with different scales of characteristic wavelengths can interact with the same group of charged particles when their phase velocity is close to the velocities of the charged particles. A multi-wavenumber standard map** is developed to model the chaotic diffusion in multi-scale turbulence. The diffusion coefficient is obtained by calculating the correlation functions analytically. It is found that the contribution of the largest scale turbulence dominates the deviation from the quasi-linear diffusion coefficient. Increasing the overlap parameters of the smaller scale turbulence by just the increasing the wavenumber cannot make the diffusion coefficient to be the quasi-linear diffusion coefficient for a finite wave amplitude. Especially, in two-scale turbulence, the diffusion coefficient is mostly over the quasi-linear diffusion coefficient in the large wavenumber (of the smaller scale turbulence) limit. As more scales of components are added in the turbulence, the diffusion coefficient approaches the quasi-linear diffusion coefficient. The results can also be applied to other resonance-induced multi-scale turbulence in Hamiltonian systems with 1.5 or 2 degrees of freedom.

The lack of a simple operable method for longitudinal dynamic self-assembly of particles in a microchannel is one of the main problems in applying this technology to a wide range of researches, such as biomedical engineering, material science, and computation. Herein, a viscoelasticity-induced trap** microfluidic system for flowing particles is proposed to increase the maneuverability of longitudinal dynamic self-assembly of particles and achieve real-time control of the interparticle spacings and the frequency of particles passing through the outlet. Two kinds of functional microstructures and a side-channel were designed to preprocessing the randomly distributed particles to make particles no aggregation and evenly distributed and realize real-time control of the particle volume concentration. Randomly distributed particles could be focused into a line and become equally spaced in the center axis of a straight microchannel under the balance of the elastic force and the viscoelasticity-induced effective repulsive force. Besides, a finite element method model is established to analyze the processes of particles flowing in each functional microstructure. Therefore, a step forward in this microfluidic technology can provide significant promotion for a wide range of researches.

A general field theory for classical particle-field systems is developed. Compared with the standard classical field theory, the distinguish feature of a classical particle-field system is that the particles and fields reside on different manifolds. The fields are defined on the 4D space-time, whereas each particle's trajectory is defined on the 1D time-axis. As a consequence, the standard Noether's procedure for deriving local conservation laws in space-time from symmetries is not applicable without modification. To overcome this difficulty, a weak Euler-Lagrange equation for particles is developed on the 4D space-time, which plays a pivotal role in establishing the connections between symmetries and local conservation laws in space-time. Especially, the non-vanishing Euler derivative in the weak Euler-Lagrangian equation generates a new current in the conservation laws. Several examples from plasma physics are studied as special cases of the general field theory. In particular, the relations between the rotational symmetry and angular momentum conservation for the Klimontovich-Poisson system and the Klimontovich-Darwin system are established.

A high speed quasi-distributed demodulation method based on the microwave photonics and the chromatic dispersion effect is designed and implemented for weak fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs). Due to the effect of dispersion compensation fiber (DCF), FBG wavelength shift leads to the change of the difference frequency signal at the mixer. With the way of crossing microwave sweep cycle, all wavelengths of cascade FBGs can be high speed obtained by measuring the frequencies change. Moreover, through the introduction of Chirp-Z and Hanning window algorithm, the analysis of difference frequency signal is achieved very well. By adopting the single-peak filter as a reference, the length disturbance of DCF caused by temperature can be also eliminated. Therefore, the accuracy of this novel method is greatly improved, and high speed demodulation of FBGs can easily realize. The feasibility and performance are experimentally demonstrated using 105 FBGs with 0.1% reflectivity, 1 m spatial interval. Results show that each grating can be distinguished well, and the demodulation rate is as high as 40 kHz, the accuracy is about 8 pm.

A manifestly covariant, or geometric, field theory for relativistic classical particle-field system is developed. The connection between space-time symmetry and energy-momentum conservation laws for the system is established geometrically without splitting the space and time coordinates, i.e., space-time is treated as one identity without choosing a coordinate system. To achieve this goal, we need to overcome two difficulties. The first difficulty arises from the fact that particles and field reside on different manifold. As a result, the geometric Lagrangian density of the system is a function of the 4-potential of electromagnetic fields and also a functional of particles' world-lines. The other difficulty associated with the geometric setting is due to the mass-shell condition. The standard Euler-Lagrange (EL) equation for a particle is generalized into the geometric EL equation when the mass-shell condition is imposed. For the particle-field system, the geometric EL equation is further generalized into a weak geometric EL equation for particles. With the EL equation for field and the geometric weak EL equation for particles, symmetries and conservation laws can be established geometrically. A geometric expression for the energy-momentum tensor for particles is derived for the first time, which recovers the non-geometric form in the existing literature for a chosen coordinate system.

Graphene based photo-detecting has received great attentions and the performance of such detector is stretching to both ends of high sensitivity and ultra-fast response. However, limited by the current photo-gating mechanism, the price for achieving ultra-high sensitivity is sacrificing the response time. Detecting weak signal within short response time is crucial especially in applications such as optical positioning, remote sensing, and biomedical imaging. In this work, we bridge the gap between ultra-fast response and ultra-high sensitivity by employing a graphene/SiO2/lightly-doped-Si architecture with revolutionary interfacial gating mechanism. Such device is capable to detect < 1 nW signal (with responsivity of ~1000 A W-1) and the spectral response extends from visible to near-infrared. More importantly, the photoresponse time of our device has been pushed to ~400 ns. The current device structure does not need complicated fabrication process and is fully compatible with the silicon technology. This work will not only open up a route to graphene-based high performance optoelectronic devices, but also have great potential in ultra-fast weak signal detection.

In this paper, the nonlinear mode conversion of extraordinary waves in nonuniform magnetized plasmas is studied using the variational symplectic particle-in-cell simulation. The accuracy of the nonlinear simulation is guaranteed by the long-term accuracy and conservativeness of the symplectic algorithm. The spectra of the electromagnetic wave, the evolution of the wave reflectivity, the energy deposition profile, and the parameter-dependent properties of radio-frequency waves during the nonlinear mode conversion are investigated. It is illustrated that nonlinear effects significantly modify the physics of the radio-frequency injection in magnetized plasmas. The evolutions of the radio-frequency wave reflectivity and the energy deposition are observed, as well as the self-interaction of the Bernstein waves and mode excitations. Even for waves with small magnitude, nonlinear effects can also become important after continuous wave injections, which are common in the realistic radio-frequency wave heating and current drive experiments.
