PyExoCross is a Python adaptation of the ExoCross Fortran application, PyExoCross is designed for postprocessing the huge molecular line lists generated by the ExoMol project and other similar initiatives such as the HITRAN and HITEMP databases. PyExoCross generates absorption and emission stick spectra, cross-sections, and other properties (partition functions, specific heats, cooling functions, lifetimes, and oscillator strengths) based on molecular line lists. PyExoCross calculates cross-sections with four line profiles: Doppler, Gaussian, Lorentzian, and Voigt profiles in both sampling and binned methods; a number of options are available for computing Voigt profiles which we test for speed and accuracy. PyExoCross supports importing and exporting line lists in the ExoMol and HITRAN/HITEMP formats. PyExoCross also provides conversion between the ExoMol and HITRAN data formats. In addition, PyExoCross has extra code for users to automate the batch download of line list files from the ExoMol database.

Multichannel quantum defect theory is applied in the treatment of the dissociative recombination and vibrational excitation processes for the BeD$^+$ ion in the twenty four vibrational levels of its ground electronic state ($\textrm{X}\,{^{1}Σ^{+}},v_{i}^{+}=0\ldots 23$). Three electronic symmetries of BeD$^{**}$ states (\ensuremath{^{2}Π}, \ensuremath{^{2}Σ^{+}}, and \ensuremath{^{2}Δ}), are considered in the calculation of cross sections and the corresponding rate coefficients. The incident electron energy range is $10^{-5}$--2.7 eV and the electron temperature range is 100--5000~K. The vibrational dependence of these collisional processes is highlighted. The resulting data are useful in magnetic confinement fusion edge plasma modelling and spectroscopy, in devices with beryllium based main chamber materials, such as ITER and JET, and operating with the deuterium-tritium fuel mix. An extensive rate coefficients database is presented in graphical form and also by analytic fit functions whose parameters are tabulated in the supplementary material.

Maxwell anisotropic rate coefficients, obtained from these cross sections in the conditions of the Heidelberg Test Storage Ring (TSR) experiments ($k_{B}T_{t}=2.8$ meV and $k_{B}T_{l}=45$ $μ$eV), have been reported for those processes in the same electronic energy range. Maxwell isotropic rate coefficients have been as well presented for electronic temperatures up to a few hundreds of Kelvins. Very good overall agreement is found between our results for rotational transitions and the former theoretical computations as well as with experiment. Furthermore, owing to the full rotational computations performed, the accuracy of the resulting dissociative recombination cross sections is considerably improved.

Starting from this input, the main paths and mechanisms for CO$^+$ dissociative recombination are analyzed; its cross sections are computed using a method based on Multichannel Quantum Defect Theory. Convoluted cross sections, giving both isotropic and anisotropic Maxwellian rate-coefficients, are compared with merged-beam and storage-ring experimental results. The calculated cross sections underestimate the measured ones by a factor of $2$, but display a very similar resonant shape. These facts confirm the quality of our approach for the dynamics, and call for more accurate and more extensive molecular structure calculations.

The resonance states yield dissociative potential curves which, when considered together with their widths, provide input for models of different electron-cation collision processes including dissociative recombination, and rotational and vibrational excitation. Curves and couplings which will lead directly to dissociative recombination are identified.

Multi-reference configuration interaction (MRCI) potential energy curves (PECs) and spin-orbit couplings for the X $^2Π$, A $^2 Σ^+$, 1 $^2 Σ^-$, 1 $^4 Σ^-$, and 1 $^4 Π$ states of OH are computed and refined against empirical energy levels and transitions to produce a spectroscopic model. Predissociation lifetimes are determined by discretising continuum states in the variational method nuclear motion calculation by restricting the calculation to finite range of internuclear separations. Varying this range give a series of avoided crossings between quasi-bound states associated with the A $^2 Σ^+$ and continuum states, from which predissociation lifetimes are extracted. 424 quasi-bound A $^2 Σ^+$ state rovibronic energy levels are analysed and 374 predissociation lifetimes are produced, offering good coverage of the predissociation region. Agreement with measured lifetimes is satisfactory and a majority of computed results were within experimental uncertainty. A previously unreported A $^2 Σ^+$ state predissociation channel which goes via the X $^2Π$ is identified in the calculations. A python package, binslt, is produced to calculate predissociation lifetimes, associated line broadening parameters, and uncertainties from Duo *.states files is made available. The PECs and other curves from this work will be used to produce a rovibronic ExoMol linelist and temperature-dependent photodissociation cross sections for the hydroxyl radical.

The process of dissociation for two hydrofluorocarbon molecules in low triplet states excited by electron impact in plasma is investigated by ab initio Molecular Dynamics (AIMD). The interest in dissociation of hydrofluorocarbons in plasma is motivated by their role in plasma etching in microelectronic technologies. Dissociation of triplet states is very fast, and the reaction products can be predicted. In this work, it was found that higher triplet states relax into the lowest triplet state within a few femtoseconds due to nonadiabatic dynamics, so that the simplest ab initio MD on the lowest triplet state seems to give a reasonable estimate of the reaction channels branching ratios. We provide evidence for the existence of simple rules for the dissociation of hydrofluorocarbon molecules in triplet states. For molecules with a double bond, the bonds adjacent to it dissociate faster than the other bonds.

The (stationary) Schrödinger equation for atomistic systems is solved using the adiabatic potential energy curves (PECs) and the associated adiabatic approximation. Despite being very simplistic, this approach is very powerful and used in nearly all practical applications. In cases when interactions between electronic states become important, the associated non-adiabatic effects are taken into account via the derivative couplings (DDRs), also known as non-adiabatic couplings (NACs). For diatomic molecules, the corresponding PECs in the adiabatic representation are characterized by avoided crossings. The alternative to the adiabatic approach is the diabatic representation, obtained via a unitary transformation of the adiabatic states by minimizing the DDRs. For diatomics, the diabatic representation has zero DDR and non-diagonal diabatic couplings (DCs) ensue. The two representations are fully equivalent and so should be the rovibronic energies and wavefunctions which result from the solution of the corresponding Schrödinger equations.
We demonstrate (for the first time), the numerical equivalence between the adiabatic and diabatic rovibronic calculations of diatomic molecules, using the ab initio curves of yttrium oxide (YO) and carbon monohydride (CH) as examples of two-state systems, where YO is characterized by a strong NAC, while CH has a strong diabatic coupling. Rovibronic energies and wavefunctions are computed using a new diabatic module implemented in variational rovibronic code DUO. We show that it is important to include both the Diagonal Born-Oppenheimer Correction (DBOC) and non-diagonal DDRs. We also show that convergence of the vibronic energy calculations can strongly depend on the representation of nuclear motion used and that no one representation is best in all cases.

To meet burning needs of high-resolution pressure-induced line-shape parameters in the UV/visible regions for hot-temperature industrial and atmospheric applications as well as current and future space missions, phase-shift theory is examined in its historical context, tested and revisited using accurate numerical potentials and advanced trajectory models. First, a general analysis for arbitrary molecular systems is conducted in terms of the dimensionless parameter $α$ determined by the differences of the Lennard-Jones parameters in the final and initial electronic absorber's states. Temperature dependence, use of the power law and influence of Maxwell-Boltzmann averaging over relative velocities are addressed. Then, interaction-potential calculations are attempted for some representative molecular pairs (NO-Ar, NO-N$_2$, OH-Ar and OH-N$_2$) and the isotropic parts are fitted using the 12-6 Lennard-Jones form to get room and high-temperature line-broadening and line-shift coefficients which are compared to available measurements. It is shown that the phase-shift theory in its standard rectilinear-trajectory formulation provides linewidth and shift estimates accurate within 30-40 %. Attempted improvements using numerical potentials and curved trajectories lead to closer matches with measurements for some cases but also worsen the agreement for others. To ensure better theoretical predictions, introduction of correction terms to the usual phase-shift integral is suggested.

To this end, a database of 50106 experimental transitions, 48972 being non-redundant, has been compiled through the analysis of 29 experimental sources, and a self-consistent network of 8558 rovibronic energy levels for the $X$, $a$, $b$, $A$, $B$, and $C$ electronic states has been generated with the MARVEL algorithm covering rotational and vibrational quantum numbers $J \leq 69$ and $v \leq 30$ and energies up to 52350.40 cm$^{-1}$. No observed transitions connect to the $ B\,{}^{3}Σ^{-} (v = 0)$ state which is required to model perturbations correctly, so we leave fitting the $B\,{}^3Σ^-$ and $C\,{}^3Π$ state UV model to a future project. The ExoMol database currently provides comprehensive line lists for modelling the spectroscopic properties of molecules in hot atmospheres. Extending the spectral range of the data provided to ultraviolet (UV) wavelengths brings into play three processes not currently accounted for in the ExoMol data structure, namely photodissociation, which is an important chemical process in its own right, the opacity contribution due to continuum absorption and predissociation which can lead to significant and observable line broadening effects. The model is based on the use of potential energy curves, represented as extended Morse oscillators, and couplings (spin-orbit, spin-spin, angular momentum), represented by polynomials, which are tuned to the data plus an empirical allowance for spin-rotation couplings. The curves are used as input for the variational nuclear motion code \duo. For the $\mathrm{X}\,^4Σ^-$, $\mathrm{1}\,^2Φ$ and $\mathrm{1}\,^2Π$ states the model reproduces the observed energy to significantly better than 0.1 $\mathrm{cm}^{-1}$. For the other states the standard deviations are between 0.25 and 1.5 $\mathrm{cm}^{-1}$. Further experimental data and consideration of hyperfine effects would probably be needed to significantly improve this situation.

The newly computed OYT6 line list contains over 24.2 billion transitions between 3.2 million energy levels with rotational excitation up to $J=175.5$. It is applicable to temperatures up to $T=3000$~K and covers the 0\,--\,35\,000~cm$^{-1}$ range (wavelengths $λ> 0.29$~$μ$m) for rotational, rotation-vibration and the \A--\X\ electronic transition. The strong band around 16\,000~cm$^{-1}$ ($λ= 0.63$~$μ$m) is likely to be of interest in future astronomical observations, particularly in hot rocky exoplanets where temperatures can become extremely high. The OYT6 line list has been generated using empirically-refined \X\ and \A\ state potential energy surfaces, high-level \textit{ab initio} transition dipole moment surfaces and a rigorous treatment of both Renner-Teller and spin-orbit coupling effects, which are necessary for correctly modelling the CaOH spectrum. Post-processing of the CaOH line list has been performed so as to tailor it to high-resolution applications, i.e.\ by replacing calculated energy levels with more accurate empirically-derived values (where available), hence improving the accuracy of the predicted line positions in certain regions. The OYT6 line list is available from the ExoMol database at http://www.exomol.com and the CDS astronomical database.

The rotation-vibration-electronic (rovibronic) line lists, named \texttt{XAB}, consider transitions involving the \X, \A, and \BBp\ electronic states in the 0--30\,000~cm$^{-1}$ region (wavelengths $λ> 0.33$~$μ$m) and are suitable for temperatures up to 5000 K. A comprehensive analysis of the published spectroscopic literature on CaH and MgH is used to obtain new extensive datasets of accurate rovibronic energy levels with measurement uncertainties and consistent quantum number labelling. These datasets are used to produce new spectroscopic models for CaH and MgH, composed of newly empirically-refined potential energy curves and couplings in/between the different electronic states (e.g.\ spin-orbit, electronic angular momentum, Born-Oppenheimer breakdown, spin-rotation, $Λ$-doubling) and previously published \textit{ab initio} transition dipole moment curves. Along with Einstein $A$ coefficients, state lifetimes and Landé $g$-factors are provided, the latter being particularly useful as CaH and MgH can be used to probe stellar magnetic fields. Computed energy levels have been replaced with the more accurate empirical values (if available) when post-processing the line lists, thus tailoring the line lists to high resolution applications. The \texttt{XAB} line lists are available from the ExoMol database at http://www.exomol.com and the CDS astronomical database.

A variational model for the infra-red spectrum of VO is presented which aims to accurately predict the hyperfine structure within the VO $\mathrm{X}\,^4Σ^-$ electronic ground state. To give the correct electron spin splitting of the $\mathrm{X}\,^4Σ^-$ state, electron spin dipolar interaction within the ground state and the spin-orbit coupling between $\mathrm{X}\,^4Σ^-$ and two excited states, $\mathrm{A}\,^4Π$ and $\mathrm{1}\,^2Σ^+$, are calculated ab initio alongside hyperfine interaction terms. Four hyperfine coupling terms are explicitly considered: Fermi-contact interaction, electron spin-nuclear spin dipolar interaction, nuclear spin-rotation interaction and nuclear electric quadrupole interaction. These terms are included as part of a full variational solution of the nuclear-motion Schrödinger equation performed using program DUO, which is used to generate both hyperfine-resolved energy levels and spectra. To improve the accuracy of the model, ab initio curves are subject to small shifts. The energy levels generated by this model show good agreement with the recently derived empirical term values. This and other comparisons validate both our model and the recently developed hyperfine modules in DUO.

A diabatic representation is built by removing the avoided crossings between the spatially degenerate pairs $C^{3}Π- C^{\prime 3}Π$ and $e^{1}Π- (3)^{1}Π$ through a property-based diabatisation method. We also present non-adiabatic couplings and diabatic couplings for these avoided crossing systems. All phases for our coupling curves are defined, and consistent, providing the first fully reproducible spectroscopic model of SO covering the wavelength range longer than 147 nm. Finally, an ab initio rovibronic spectrum of SO is computed.

Photon initiated chemistry, \textit{i.e.} the interaction of light with chemical species, is a key factor in the evolution of the atmosphere of exoplanets. For planets orbiting stars in UV-rich environments, photodissociation induced by high energy photons dominates the atmosphere composition and dynamics. The rate of photodissociation can be highly dependent on atmospheric temperature, as increased temperature leads to increased population of vibrational excited states and the consequent lowering of the photodissociation threshold. This paper inaugurates a new series of papers presenting computed temperature-dependent photodissociation cross sections with rates generated for different stellar fields. Cross sections calculations are performed by solving the time-independent Schrödinger equation for each electronic state involved in the process. Here photodissociation cross sections for hydrogen chloride and hydrogen fluoride are computed for a grid of 34 temperatures between 0 and 10~000 K. Use of different radiation fields shows that for the Sun and cooler stars the photodissociation rate can increase exponentially for molecular temperatures above 1000 K; conversely the photodissociation rates in UV rich fields instead are almost insensitive to the temperature of the molecule. Furthermore, these rates show extreme sensitivity to the radiation model used for cool stars, suggesting that further work on these may be required. The provision of an ExoMol database of cross sections is discussed.

Data science and technology offer transformative tools and methods to science. This review article highlights latest development and progress in the interdisciplinary field of data-driven plasma science (DDPS). A large amount of data and machine learning algorithms go hand in hand. Most plasma data, whether experimental, observational or computational, are generated or collected by machines today. It is now becoming impractical for humans to analyze all the data manually. Therefore, it is imperative to train machines to analyze and interpret (eventually) such data as intelligently as humans but far more efficiently in quantity. Despite the recent impressive progress in applications of data science to plasma science and technology, the emerging field of DDPS is still in its infancy. Fueled by some of the most challenging problems such as fusion energy, plasma processing of materials, and fundamental understanding of the universe through observable plasma phenomena, it is expected that DDPS continues to benefit significantly from the interdisciplinary marriage between plasma science and data science into the foreseeable future.

Laser measurements of the intensity of (201) 3$_{22}$ -- (000) 2$_{21}$ near-infrared water absorption line at 10670.1 \cm\ are made using three different Herriott cells. These measurements determine the line intensity with an standard deviation below of 0.3~\% by consideration of the new geometrically derived formula for the opt ical path length without approximations. This determination together with the current accepted value leads to an overall uncertainty of 0.7~\% of the experimentally assessed line intensity which is compared with previous {\it ab initio} predictions. It is found that steady improvements in the both the dipole moment surface (DMS) and potential energy surface (PES) used in the theoretical studies leads to systematic better agreement with the observation, with the most recent prediction agreeing closely with the experiment.

An algorithm for the calculation of hyperfine structure and spectra of diatomic molecules based on the variational nuclear motion is presented. Hyperfine coupling terms considered are Fermi-contact, nuclear spin-electron spin dipole-dipole, nuclear spin-orbit, nuclear spin-rotation and nuclear electric quadrupole interactions. Initial hyperfine-unresolved wavefunctions are obtained for given set of potential energy curves and associated couplings by variation solution of the nuclear-motion Schrödinger equation. Fully hyperfine-resolved parity-conserved rovibronic Hamiltonian matrices for a given final angular momentum, $\bm{F}$, are constructed and then diagonalized to give hyperfine-resolved energies and wavefunctions.Electric transition dipole moment curves can then be used to generate a hyperfine-resolved line list by applying rigorous selection rules. The algorithm is implemented in \textsc{Duo}, which is a general program for calculating spectra of diatomic molecules. This approach is tested for NO and MgH,and the results are compared to experiment and shown to be consistent with those given the well-used effective Hamiltonian code PGOPHER.

The sodium monoxide radical (NaO) is observed in night glow in the Earth's mesosphere and likely has astronomical importance. This study concerns the optical transitions within the ground X $^2Π$ state and to the very low-lying ($T_{\textrm e}\approx 2000$ cm$^{-1}$) excited A $^2Σ^+$ state. A line list consisting of rovibronic term values, allowed electric dipole transitions, Einstein coefficients, and partition functions for varying temperature are produced due to a variational solution of the coupled-channel Schrödinger equations using the program \Duo. MRCI \textit{ab initio} calculations characterising the potential energy curves of the both states, spin-orbit and $L$-uncoupling non-adiabatic matrix elements, as well as permanent and transition dipole moments were integral in formation of the final deperturbation model. \textit{Ab initio} potential energy curves are represented in the analytical Extended-Morse-Oscillator form and refined, along with the spin-orbit and $L$-uncoupling functions, by least-squares fitting to the available spectroscopic data. The input experimental data consisted of pure rotational transitions within the fine structure components of the X $^2Π$ state for $v''\in [0,3]$ vibrational levels as well as the rovibronic A $^2Σ^+(v'=0) \leftarrow$ X $^2Π(v''=0)$ transitions, both with limited coverage over rotational excitation. The lack of data detailing the vibrational structure of the X and A states prompts a request for further experimental study of higher excited levels which would provide a robust spectroscopic model. This line list extends the infrared EBJT ExoMol line list by including vibronic transitions to the $A\,{}^{1}Π$ and $E\,{}^{1}Σ^{+}$ electronic states. Strong perturbations to the $A\,{}^{1}Π$ band system are accurately modelled through the treatment of 6 dark electronic states: $C\,{}^{1}Σ^{-}$, $D\,{}^{1}Δ$, $a\,{}^{3}Σ^{+}$, $b\,{}^{3}Π$, $e\,{}^{3}Σ^{-}$ and $d\,{}^{3}Δ$. Along with the $X\,{}^{1}Σ^{+}$ ground state, these 9 electronic states were used to build a comprehensive spectroscopic model of SiO using a combination of empirical and ab initio curves, including the potential energy (PE), spin-orbit (SO), electronic angular momentum (EAM) and (transition) dipole moment curves. The ab initio PE and coupling curves, computed at the multireference configuration interaction (MRCI) level of theory, were refined by fitting their analytical representations to 2617 experimentally derived SiO energy levels determined from 97 vibronic bands belonging to the $X$-$X$, $E$-$X$ and $A$-$X$ electronic systems through the MARVEL procedure. 112 observed forbidden transitions from the $C$-$X$, $D$-$X$, $e$-$X$, and $d$-$X$ bands were assigned using our predictions, and these could be fed back into the MARVEL procedure. The SiOUVenIR line list was computed using published ab initio transition dipole moments for the $E$-$X$ and $A$-$X$ bands; the line list is suitable for temperatures up to 10,000 K and for wavelengths longer than 140 nm. The rovibronic (rotation-vibration-electronic) spectrum of the calcium monohydroxide radical (CaOH) is of interest to studies of exoplanet atmospheres and ultracold molecules. Here, we theoretically investigate the $\tilde{A}\,^2Π$--$\tilde{X}\,^2Σ^+$ band system of CaOH using high-level \textit{ab initio} theory and variational nuclear motion calculations. New potential energy surfaces (PESs) are constructed for the $\tilde{X}\,^2Σ^+$ and $\tilde{A}\,^2Π$ electronic states along with $\tilde{A}$--$\tilde{X}$ transition dipole moment surfaces (DMSs). For the ground $\tilde{X}\,^2Σ^+$ state, a published high-level \textit{ab initio} PES is empirically refined to all available experimental rovibrational energy levels up to $J=15.5$, reproducing the observed term values with a root-mean-square (rms) error of 0.06~cm$^{-1}$. Large-scale multireference configuration interaction (MRCI) calculations using quintuple-zeta quality basis sets are employed to generate the $\tilde{A}\,^2Π$ state PESs and $\tilde{A}$--$\tilde{X}$ DMSs. Variational calculations consider both Renner-Teller and spin-orbit coupling effects, which are essential for a correct description of the spectrum of CaOH. Computed rovibronic energy levels of the $\tilde{A}\,^2Π$ state, line list calculations up to $J=125.5$, and an analysis of Renner-Teller splittings in the $ν_2$ bending mode of CaOH are discussed.

Calculations on an extended range of rotational states show very good agreement with experimental data. In particular the known empirical rotational constants for the ground and some observed excited vibrational states are reproduced with an accuracy of about 50 MHz. This level of accuracy is shown to extend to higher excited inter-molecular vibrational states $v$ and higher excited rotational quantum numbers $(J,K_a)$. These calculations allow the assignment of 3 new $J$-branches in an HF dimer tunneling-rotation spectra recorded 30 years ago. These branches belong to excited $K_a$ = 4 state of the ground vibrational state, and $K_a$ = 0 states of excited inter-molecular vibrational states.

A very accurate, (HF)$_2$ potential energy surface (PES) is constructed based on \ai\ calculations performed using the MOLPRO package at the CCSD(T) level of theory with an aug-cc-pvQz-F12 basis set at about 161~000 points. a higher correlation correction is computed at CCSDT(Q) level for 2000 points and is considered alongside other more minor corrections due to relativity, core-valence correlation and Born-Oppenheimer failure. The analytical surface constructed uses 500 constants to reproduce the \ai\ points with a standard deviation of 0.3 \cm. Vibration-rotation-inversion energy levels of the HF dimer are computed for this PES by variational solution of the nuclear-motion Schrödinger using program WAVR4. Calculations over an extended range of rotationally excited states show very good agreement with the experimental data. In particular the known empirical rotational constants $B$ for the ground vibrational states are predicted to better than about 2 MHz. $B$ constants for excited vibrational states are reproduced several times more accurately than by previous calculations. The experimental dissociation energy of the HF dimer is reproduced \ai\ within the experimental accuracy of about 1 \cm\ for the first time. This level of accuracy is shown to extend to higher excited inter-molecular vibrational states $v$ and higher excited rotational quantum numbers $(J,K_a)$.

Molecular line lists, particularly those computed for high temperature applications, often have very few states assigned local quantum numbers. These are often important components for accurately determining line shape parameters required for radiative transfer simulations. The projection of the total angular momentum onto the molecule fixed axis ($k$) is investigated in the Radau internal coordinate system to determine when it can be considered a good quantum number. In such a coordinate system, when the square of the $k^{th}$ component of the wavefunction is greater than one half, then we can classify $k$ as a good quantum number in accordance with the theorem of Hose and Taylor. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that when this holds true, oblate and prolate quantum labels $K_{a}$ and $K_{c}$ can reliably be predicted. This is demonstrated for the water and ozone molecules.

Recent advances in the high sensitivity spectroscopy have made it possible, in combination with accurate theoretical predictions, to observe for the first time very weak electric quadrupole transitions in a polar polyatomic molecule of water. Here we present accurate theoretical predictions of the complete quadrupole ro-vibrational spectrum of a non-polar molecule CO$_2$, important in atmospheric and astrophysical applications. Our predictions are validated by recent cavity enhanced absorption spectroscopy measurements and are used to assign few weak features in the recent ExoMars ACS MIR spectroscopic observations of the martian atmosphere. Predicted quadrupole transitions appear in some of the mid-infrared CO$_2$ and water vapor transparency regions, making them important for detection and characterization of the minor absorbers in water- and CO$_2$-rich environments, such as present in the atmospheres of Earth, Venus and Mars.

The work is a major update of the ExoMol NOname line list. It provides a high-accuracy NO ultraviolet line list covering the complicated regions where the $\mathrm{B}\,^2Π$-$\mathrm{C}\,^2Π$ states interact. XABC provides comprehensive data for the lowest four doublet states of NO in the region of $λ> 160 ~ \mathrm{nm}$ ($\tildeν < 63~000~\mathrm{cm}^{-1}$) for the analysis of atmospheric NO on Earth, Venus or Mars, other astronomical observations and applications. We investigate fully self-consistent multiscale quantum-classical algorithms on current generation superconducting quantum computers, in a unified approach to tackle the correlated electronic structure of large systems in both quantum chemistry and condensed matter physics. In both of these contexts, a strongly correlated quantum region of the extended system is isolated and self-consistently coupled to its environment via the sampling of reduced density matrices. We analyze the viability of current generation quantum devices to provide the required fidelity of these objects for a robust and efficient optimization of this subspace. We show that with a simple error mitigation strategy and optimization of compact tensor product bases to minimize the number of terms to sample, these self-consistent algorithms are indeed highly robust, even in the presence of significant noises on quantum hardware. Furthermore, we demonstrate the use of these density matrices for the sampling of non-energetic properties, including dipole moments and Fermi liquid parameters in condensed phase systems, achieving a reliable accuracy with sparse sampling. It appears that uncertainties derived from the iterative optimization of these subspaces is smaller than variances in the energy for a single subspace optimization with current quantum hardware. This boosts the prospect for routine self-consistency to improve the choice of correlated subspaces in hybrid quantum-classical approaches to electronic structure for large systems in this multiscale fashion.

The rovibronic structure of A$^2Σ^+$, B$^2Π$ and C$^2Π$ states of nitric oxide (NO)is studied with the aim of producing comprehensive line lists for its near ultraviolet spectrum. Empirical energy levels for the three electronic states are determined using the a combination of the empirical MARVEL procedure and ab initio calculations, and the available experimental data are critically evaluated. Abinito methods which deal simultaneously with the Rydberg-like A$^2Σ^+$ and C$^2Π$, and the valence B$^2Π$ state are tested. Methods of modeling the sharp avoided crossing between the B$^2Π$ and C$^2Π$ states are tested. A rovibronic Hamiltonian matrix is constructed using variational nuclear motion program DUO whose eigenvalues are fitted to the MARVEL energy levels. The matrix also includes coupling terms obtained from the refinement of the ab initio potential energy and spin-orbit coupling curves. Calculated and observed energy levels agree well with each other, validating the applicability of our method and providing a useful model for this open shell system.

The ExoMol database (www.exomol.com) provides molecular data for spectroscopic studies of hot atmospheres. While the data is intended for studies of exoplanets and other astronomical bodies, the dataset is widely applicable. The basic form of the database is extensive line lists; these are supplemented with partition functions, state lifetimes, cooling functions, Landé g-factors, temperature-dependent cross sections, opacities, pressure broadening parameters, $k$-coefficients and dipoles. This paper presents the latest release of the database which has been expanded to consider 80 molecules and 190 isotopologues totaling over 700 billion transitions. While the spectroscopic data is concentrated at infrared and visible wavelengths, ultraviolet transitions are being increasingly considered in response to requests from observers. The core of the database comes from the ExoMol project which primarily uses theoretical methods, albeit usually fine-tuned to reproduce laboratory spectra, to generate very extensive line lists for studies of hot bodies. The data has recently been supplemented by line lists deriving from direct laboratory observations, albeit usually with the use of ab initio transition intensities. A major push in the new release is towards accurate characterisation of transition frequencies for use in high resolution studies of exoplanets and other bodies.

The calculations presented here are based on the Local-Complex-Potential approach, taking into account five NO$^-$ resonances. Three specific channels of the process are studied, including the production of excited nitrogen atoms $\mathrm{N}(^2\mathrm{D})$ and of its anions N$^-$. Interpretation of the existing experimental data and their comparison with our theoretical result are given. A full set of ro-vibrationally-resolved cross sections and the corresponding rate coefficients are reported. In particular, a relatively notably large cross section of N$^-$ ion formation at low energy of the incident electron and for vibrationally excited NO target is predicted. Theoretical calculations are contributing a significantly higher proportion of data to contemporary spectroscopic databases, which have traditionally relied on experimental observations and semi-empirical models. It is now a common procedure to extend calculated line lists to include ro-vibrational transitions between all bound states of the ground electronic state up to the dissociation limit. Advanced ab initio methods are utilized to calculate the potential energy and dipole moment surfaces (PESs and DMSs), and semi-empirical PESs are then obtained by combining ab initio and experimental data. The objective is to reach high accuracy in the calculated transition intensities for all parts of spectrum, i.e. to increase the predictive power of the model. We show that in order to perform this task, one needs, in addition to the standard improvements of the PES and DMS in the spectroscopically accessible regions, to extend the ab initio calculations of the PES towards the united-atom limit along the stretching coordinates. The argument is based on the correlation between the intensities of high-overtone transitions and the repulsive potential wall that has previously been theoretically established for diatomic molecules and is empirically extended here to linear and nonlinear triatomic molecules. We generate partial line lists for water and ozone, and together with an already available line list for carbon dioxide, we derive the normal intensity distribution, which is a direct consequence of this correlation. The normal distribution is not an instrument to compute highly accurate intensities, rather it is a means to analyze the intensities computed by the traditional methods.
