Metal-organic skeleton materials have been widely used in catalysis with their porous structure and adsorption properties. Precious metal nanoparticles have good catalytic properties. If the noble metal nanoparticles are adsorbed on the MOFs surface, the active sites can be increased and the catalytic effect of the materials can be greatly improved. We successfully synthesized Pt@ZIF-8 in two steps, the average particle size of Pt nanoparticles is about 3 nm. Pt@ZIF-8 possesses peroxidase activity and can oxidize colorless TMB to oxTMB in the presence of hydrogen peroxide. The peroxide-like nature of Pt@ZIF-8 is consistent with Michaelis-Menten kinetics. Glutathione is a reducing substance that reduces blue oxTMB to colorless oxTMB. This colorimetric method achieves a simple, sensitive and intuitive detection of glutathione. The detection limit of this experiment is low, which is promising in biomolecular detection.

Non-contact measurement of the refractive index and thickness of multilayer biological tissues is of great significance for biomedical applications and can greatly improve medical diagnosis and treatment. In this work, we introduce a theoretical method to simultaneously extract the above information using a Fourier domain optical coherence tomography (FD-OCT) system, in which no additional arrangement and prior information about the object is required other than the OCT interference spectrum. The single reflection components can be extracted from the observed spectrum by isolating the primary spikes in the sample reflectance profile, and then the refractive index and thickness can be obtained by fitting the actual and modeled values of the single reflection spectrum. In a two-layer sample example, the simulation results show that our method can reconstruct the results with high accuracy. The relative error is within 0.01%. The complexity of our approach grows linearly with the number of sample layers, making it well-adapted to multilayer situations. Our method takes into account both single and multiple reflections in multilayer samples and is therefore equally applicable to samples with high refractive index contrast.

This study elaborates a text-based metric to quantify the unique position of stylized scientific research, characterized by its innovative integration of diverse knowledge components and potential to pivot established scientific paradigms. Our analysis reveals a concerning decline in stylized research, highlighted by its comparative undervaluation in terms of citation counts and protracted peer-review duration. Despite facing these challenges, the disruptive potential of stylized research remains robust, consistently introducing groundbreaking questions and theories. This paper posits that substantive reforms are necessary to incentivize and recognize the value of stylized research, including optimizations to the peer-review process and the criteria for evaluating scientific impact. Embracing these changes may be imperative to halt the downturn in stylized research and ensure enduring scholarly exploration in endless frontiers.

System specific neural force fields (NFFs) have gained popularity in computational chemistry. One of the most popular datasets as a bencharmk to develop NFFs models is the MD17 dataset and its subsequent extension. These datasets comprise geometries from the equilibrium region of the ground electronic state potential energy surface, sampled from direct adiabatic dynamics. However, many chemical reactions involve significant molecular geometrical deformations, for example, bond breaking. Therefore, MD17 is inadequate to represent a chemical reaction. To address this limitation in MD17, we introduce a new dataset, called Extended Excited-state Molecular Dynamics (xxMD) dataset. The xxMD dataset involves geometries sampled from direct non-adiabatic dynamics, and the energies are computed at both multireference wavefunction theory and density functional theory. We show that the xxMD dataset involves diverse geometries which represent chemical reactions. Assessment of NFF models on xxMD dataset reveals significantly higher predictive errors than those reported for MD17 and its variants. This work underscores the challenges faced in crafting a generalizable NFF model with extrapolation capability.

Electromagnetic topological edge states typically are created in photonic systems with crystalline symmetry and these states emerge because of the topological feature of bulk Bloch bands in momentum space according to the bulk-edge correspondence principle. In this work, we demonstrate the existence of chiral topological electromagnetic edge states in Penrose-tiled photonic quasicrystals made of magneto-optical materials, without relying on the concept of bulk Bloch bands in momentum space. Despite the absence of bulk Bloch bands, which naturally defiles the conventional definition of topological invariants in momentum space characterizing these states, such as the Chern number, we show that some bandgaps in these photonic quasicrystals still could host unidirectional topological electromagnetic edge states immune to backscattering in both cylinders-in-air and holes-in-slab configurations. Employing a real-space topological invariant based on the Bott index, our calculations reveal that the bandgaps hosting these chiral topological edge states possess a nontrivial Bott index of $\pm 1$, depending on the direction of the external magnetic field. Our work opens the door to the study of topological states in photonic quasicrystals.

The high fidelity of DNA polymerase is critical for the faithful replication of genomic DNA. Several approaches were proposed to quantify the fidelity of DNA polymerase. Direct measurements of the error frequency of the replication products definitely give the true fidelity but turn out very hard to implement. Two biochemical kinetic approaches, the steady-state assay and the transient-state assay, were then suggested and widely adopted. In these assays, the error frequency is indirectly estimated by using the steady-state or the transient-state kinetic theory combined with the measured kinetic rates. However, whether these indirectly estimated fidelities are equivalent to the true fidelity has never been clarified theoretically, and in particular there are different strategies to quantify the proofreading efficiency of DNAP but often lead to inconsistent results. The reason for all these confusions is that it's mathematically challenging to formulate a rigorous and general theory of the true fidelity. Recently we have succeeded to establish such a theoretical framework. In this paper, we develop this theory to make a comprehensive examination on the theoretical foundation of the kinetic assays and the relation between fidelities obtained by different methods. We conclude that while the steady-state assay and the transient-state assay can always measure the true fidelity of exonuclease-deficient DNA polymerases, they only do so for exonuclease-efficient DNA polymerases conditionally (the proper way to use these assays to quantify the proofreading efficiency is also suggested). We thus propose a new kinetic approach, the single-molecule assay, which indirectly but precisely characterizes the true fidelity of either exonuclease-deficient or exonuclease-efficient DNA polymerases.

Colloidal quantum dots (QDs) are promising emitters for electroluminescence devices (QD light-emitting-diodes, QLEDs). Though QDs have been synthesized with efficient and stable photoluminescence, inheriting their superior luminescence in QLEDs remains challenging. This is commonly attributed to unbalanced charge injection and/or interfacial exciton quenching in the devices, instead of lack of suited QD materials. Here, a general but previously overlooked degradation channel in QLEDs, i.e., operando electrochemical reactions of surface ligands with injected charge carriers, is identified after systematic studies of various combination of core/shell QDs and ligands. Applying electrochemically-inert ligands to highly photoluminescent QDs is developed to bridge their photoluminescence-electroluminescence gap. This material-design principle is general for boosting electroluminescence efficiency and lifetime of the QLEDs, resulting in record-long operational lifetimes for both red-emitting QLEDs (T95 > 3800 hours at 1000 cd m-2) and blue-emitting QLEDs (T50 >10,000 hours at 100 cd m-2). Our study provides a critical guideline for the QDs to be used in optoelectronic and electronic devices.

Polaritons are arousing tremendous interests in physics and material sciences for their unique and amazing properties, especially including the condensation, lasing without inversion and even room-temperature superfluidity. Herein, we propose a cell vibron polariton (cell-VP): a collectively coherent mode of a photon and all phospholipid molecules in a myelin sheath which is a nervous cell majorly consisting of the phospholipid molecules. Cell-VP can be resonantly self-confined in the myelin sheath under physiological conditions. The observations benefit from the specifically compact, ordered and polar thin-film structure of the sheath, and the relatively strong coupling of the mid-infrared photon with the vibrons of phospholipid tails in the myelin. The underlying physics is revealed to be the collectively coherent superposition of the photon and vibrons, the polariton induced significant enhancement of myelin permittivity, and the resonance of the polariton with the sheath cell. The captured cell-VPs in myelin sheaths may provide a promising way for super-efficient consumption of extra-weak bioenergy and even directly serve for quantum information in the nervous system. These findings further the understanding of neuroscience on the cellular level from the view of quantum mechanics.

This article presents a new optical measurement method employing a HSI (Hue, Saturation and Intensity) colour model to form trapezoidal structured patterns for morphology reconstruction of a measured object at a high speed. Profilometry on objects having non-monochromatic surfaces is considered as one of the remaining most challenges faced by the currently existing structured-light projection methods since the surface reflectivity to red, green and blue light may vary significantly. To address this, an innovative colour calibration method for hue component is developed to determine the accurate reflectivity response of the measured surface. The trapezoidal colour pattern is calibrated to compensate the hue-shifted quantity induced by the reflective characteristics of the object's surface. The developed method can reconstruct precise 3-D surface models from objects by acquiring a single-shot image, which can achieve high-speed profilometry and avoid in-situ potential measurement disturbances such as environmental vibration. To verify the feasibility of the developed methodology, some experiments were conducted to confirm that the measurement accuracy can be controlled within 2.5% of the overall measurement range and the repeatability of 3.0% within +/- 3*sigma can be achieved.
