Quantum loop and dimer models are archetypal examples of correlated systems with local constraints. Obtaining generic solutions for these models is difficult due to the lack of controlled methods to solve them in the thermodynamic limit. Nevertheless, these solutions are of immediate relevance to both statistical and quantum field theories, as well as the rapidly growing experiments in Rydberg atom arrays and quantum moiré materials, where the interplay between correlation and local constraints gives rise to a plethora of novel phenomena. In a recent work [X. Ran, Z. Yan, Y.-C. Wang, et al, ar** cluster quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) simulations and field theory analysis that the triangular lattice quantum loop model (QLM) hosts a rich ground state phase diagram with lattice nematic, vison plaquette (VP) crystals, and the $\mathbb{Z}_2$ quantum spin liquid (QSL) close to the Rokhsar-Kivelson point. Here, we focus on the continuous quantum critical point separating the VP and QSL phases and demonstrate via both static and dynamic probes in QMC simulations that this transition is of the (2+1)D cubic* universality. In this transition, the fractionalized visons in QSL condense to give rise to the crystalline VP phase, while leaving their trace in the anomalously large anomalous dimension exponent and pronounced continua in the dimer and vison spectra compared with those at the conventional cubic or O(3) quantum critical points.

Whispering-gallery mode crystalline resonators currently maintain the best quality factor (Q) record, however, compact on-chip packaging is still a challenge although various coupling architectures have been developed. Here, a chemical etching method is proposed to fabricate a miniaturized tapered fiber waveguide on silicon substrate. The Marangoni effect is implemented to reduce the surface roughness of the cone region. The optical loss of 0.1 dB/mm is obtained, and the Q of on-chip crystalline resonator exceeds 108. Additionally, TEC is implanted in the package to actively customize the temperature, and the temperature response of 18 pm/K is consistent with the theoretical calculation.

The sandwich structure as the core layer of PDMS resonator is proposed for single-axis magnetic sensor with high sensitivity. The small Young's modulus of flexible material corresponds to larger variation, resulting in a highly sensitive magnetic response. The sandwich structure pre-set magnetic field provides directional sensing feature. The experimental results show that the redshift sensitivity of 1.08 nm/mT and the blueshift sensitivity of 1.12 nm/mT in the unshielded environment, which is attributed to slight variation in PDMS Young's modulus. At 1.4 kHz, a minimum detectable magnetic field of 0.96 nT Hz-1/2 is realized.

The quantum dimer and loop models attract great attentions, partially because the fundamental importance in the phases and phase transitions emerging in these prototypical constrained systems, and partially due to their intimate relevance toward the on-going experiments on Rydberg atom arrays in which the blockade mechanism naturally enforces the local constraint. Here we show, by means of the swee** cluster quantum Monte Carlo method, the complete ground state phase diagram of the fully packed quantum loop model on the square lattice. We find between the lattice nematic (LN) phase with strong dimer attraction and the staggered phase (SP) with strong dimer repulsion, there emerges a resonating plaquette (RP) phase with off-diagonal translational symmetry breaking. Such a quantum phase is separated from the LN via a first order transition and from the SP by the famous Rokhsar-Kivelson point. Our renormalization group analysis reveals the different flow directions, fully consistent with the order parameter histogram in Monte Carlo simulations. The realization and implication of our phase diagram in Rydberg experiments are proposed.

Motivated by recent development of the concept of the disorder operator and its relation with entanglement entropy in bosonic systems, here we show the disorder operator successfully probes many aspects of quantum entanglement in fermionic many-body systems. From both analytical and numerical computations in free and interacting fermion systems in 1D and 2D, we find the disorder operator and the entanglement entropy exhibit similar universal scaling behavior, as a function of the boundary length of the subsystem, but with subtle yet important differences. In 1D they both follow the $\log{L}$ scaling behavior with the coefficient determined by the Luttinger parameter for disorder operator, and the conformal central charge for entanglement entropy. In 2D they both show the universal $L\log L$ scaling behavior in free and interacting Fermi liquid states, with the coefficients depending on the geometry of the Fermi surfaces. However at a 2D quantum critical point with non-Fermi-liquid state, extra symmetry information is needed in the design of the disorder operator, so as to reveal the critical fluctuations as does the entanglement entropy. Our results demonstrate the fermion disorder operator can be used to probe quantum many-body entanglement related to global symmetry, and provides new tools to explore the still largely unknown territory of highly entangled fermion quantum matter in 2 or higher dimensions.

Quantum loop and dimer models are prototypical correlated systems with local constraints, which are not only intimately connected to lattice gauge theories and topological orders but are also widely applicable to the broad research areas of quantum materials and quantum simulation. Employing our swee** cluster quantum Monte Carlo algorithm, we reveal the complete phase diagram of the triangular-lattice fully packed quantum loop model. Apart from the known lattice nematic (LN) solid and the even $\mathbb{Z}_2$ quantum spin liquid (QSL) phases, we discover a hidden vison plaquette (VP) phase, which had been overlooked and misinterpreted as a QSL for more than a decade. Moreover, the VP-to-QSL continuous transition belongs to the $(2+1)$D cubic* universality class, which offers a lattice realization of the (fractionalized) cubic fixed point that had long been considered as irrelevant towards the O($3$) symmetry until corrected recently by conformal bootstrap calculations. Our results are therefore of relevance to recent developments in both experiments and theory, and facilitate further investigations of hidden phases and transitions.

Due to the muon tomography's capability of imaging high Z materials, some potential applications have been reported on inspecting smuggled nuclear materials in customs. A compact Cosmic Ray Muons (CRM) imaging prototype, Lanzhou University Muon Imaging System (LUMIS), is comprehensively introduced in this paper including the structure design, assembly, data acquisition and analysis, detector performance test, and material imaging commissioning etc. Casted triangular prism plastic scintillators (PS) were coupled with Si-PMs for sensitive detector components in system. LUMIS's experimental results show that the detection efficiency of an individual detector layer is about 98%, the position resolution for vertical incident muons is 2.5 mm and the angle resolution is 8.73 mrad given a separation distance of 40.5 cm. Moreover, the image reconstruction software was developed based on the Point of Closest Approach (PoCA) to detect lead bricks as our target. The reconstructed images indicate that the profile of the lead bricks in the image is highly consistent with the target. Subsequently, the capability of LUMIS to distinguish different materials, such as Pb, Cu, Fe, and Al, was investigated as well. The lower limit of response time for rapidly alarming high-Z materials is also given and discussed. The successful development and commissioning of the LUMIS prototype have provided a new solution option in technology and craftsmanship for develo** compact CRM imaging systems that can be used in many applications.

We demonstrate instrumentation and methods to enable fluorescence-detected photothermal infrared (F-PTIR) microscopy, then demonstrate the utility of F-PTIR to characterize the composition within phase-separated domains of model amorphous solid dispersions (ASDs) induced by water sorption. In F-PTIR, temperature-dependent changes in fluorescence quantum efficiency are shown to sensitively report on highly localized absorption of mid-infrared radiation. The spatial resolution with which infrared spectroscopy can be performed is dictated by fluorescence microscopy, rather than the infrared wavelength. Following proof of concept F-PTIR demonstration on model systems of polyethylene glycol (PEG) and silica gel, F-PTIR enabled the characterization of chemical composition within inhomogeneous ritonavir / polyvinylpyrrolidone-vinyl acetate (PVPVA) amorphous dispersions. Phase separation is implicated in the observation of critical behaviors in ASD dissolution kinetics, with the results of F-PTIR supporting the formation of phase-separated drug-rich domains upon water absorption in spin-cast films.
