An electron beam passing through a tube which is lined on the inside with a dielectric layer will radiate energy in the THz range due to the interaction with the boundary. The resonant enhancement of certain frequencies is conditioned by structure parameters as tube radius and permittivity of the dielectric layer. In low loss structures narrow-band radiation is generated which can be coupled out by suitable antennas. For higher frequencies the coupling to the resistive outer metal layer becomes increasingly important. The losses in the outer layer prohibit to reach high frequencies with narrow-band conditions. Instead short broad-band pulses can be generated with still attractive power levels. In the first section of the paper a general theory of the impedance of a two-layer structure is presented and the coupling to the outer resistive layer is discussed. Approximate relations for the radiated energy, power and pulse length for a set of structure parameters are derived and compared to numerical results in the following section. Finally first numerical result of the out-coupling of the radiation by means of a Vlasov antenna and estimates of the achieved beam quality are presented.

We experimentally and theoretically investigate the spin orbit (SO) field in a physically defined, p type metal oxide semiconductor double quantum dot in silicon. We measure the magnetic field dependence of the leakage current through the double dot in the Pauli spin blockade. A finite magnetic field lifts the blockade, with the lifting least effective when the external and SO fields are parallel. In this way, we find that the spin flip of a tunneling hole is due to a SO field pointing perpendicular to the double dot axis and almost fully out of the quantum well plane. We augment the measurements by a derivation of SO terms using group symmetric representations theory. It predicts that without in plane electric fields (a quantum well case), the SO field would be mostly within the plane, dominated by a sum of a Rashba and a Dresselhaus like term. We, therefore, interpret the observed SO field as originated in the electric fields with substantial in plane components.

During the shutdown of the CERN Large Hadron Collider in 2013-2014, an additional pixel layer was installed between the existing Pixel detector of the ATLAS experiment and a new, smaller radius beam pipe. The motivation for this new pixel layer, the Insertable B-Layer (IBL), was to maintain or improve the robustness and performance of the ATLAS tracking system, given the higher instantaneous and integrated luminosities realised following the shutdown. Because of the extreme radiation and collision rate environment, several new radiation-tolerant sensor and electronic technologies were utilised for this layer. This paper reports on the IBL construction and integration prior to its operation in the ATLAS detector.

Abstract:
The structure of close communication, contacts and association in social networks is studied in the form of maximal subgraphs of diameter 2 (2-clubs), corresponding to three types of close communities: hamlets, social circles and coteries. The concept of borough of a graph is defined and introduced. Each borough is a chained union of 2-clubs of the network and any 2-club of the network belongs to…

The structure of close communication, contacts and association in social networks is studied in the form of maximal subgraphs of diameter 2 (2-clubs), corresponding to three types of close communities: hamlets, social circles and coteries. The concept of borough of a graph is defined and introduced. Each borough is a chained union of 2-clubs of the network and any 2-club of the network belongs to one borough. Thus the set of boroughs of a network, together with the 2-clubs held by them, are shown to contain the structure of close communication in a network. Applications are given with examples from real world network data.

Multiboson production provides a unique way to probe Electroweak Symmetry Breaking (EWSB) and physics beyond the Standard Model (SM). With the discovery of the Higgs boson, the default model is that EWSB occurs according to the Higgs mechanism. Deviations from the SM in Higgs and gauge boson properties due to new physics at a higher energy scale can be parameterized by higher-dimension operators in an Effective Field Theory (EFT). We present sensitivity studies for dimension-6 and dimension-8 operators in an EFT by looking for anomalous vector boson scattering and triboson production, at proton-proton colliders with center-of-mass energies of 14 TeV, 33 TeV and 100 TeV, respectively.
