We present that a statistical method known as the Complexity-Entropy analysis is useful to characterize a state of plasma turbulence and flux in the resonant magnetic perturbation (RMP) edge localized mode (ELM) control experiment. The RMP ELM suppression phase with the stochastic pedestal top temperature fluctuation can be distinguished from the natural ELM free phase with the chaotic fluctuation. It is discussed that the stochastic temperature fluctuation localized near the pedestal top can be originated from the narrow layer of the field penetration near the pedestal top. The forced magnetic island can emit the resonant drift wave of comparable sizes (relatively low-k) in the RMP ELM suppression phase, and it can results in the generation of stochastic higher wavenumber fluctuations coupled to tangled fields around the island. The analysis of the ion saturation current measurement around the main outer striking point on the divertor shows that it also becomes more stochastic as the stronger plasma response to the RMP field is expected.

Abstract:
We report on performance of chemical vapor deposited (CVD) single crystal diamond plates as side bounce monochromators for high photon energies ($\gtrsim$~20 keV) in the Laue geometry. Several crystals were tested in-operando high-heat-load conditions at A1 undulator station of Cornell High Energy Synchrotron Source. Up to 10$\times$ enhancement in the reflected x-ray flux was observed compared to…

Several crystals were tested in-operando high-heat-load conditions at A1 undulator station of Cornell High Energy Synchrotron Source. Up to 10$\times$ enhancement in the reflected x-ray flux was observed compared to that delivered by IIa diamond plates grown by high-pressure high-temperature method. Wavefront distortions were measured using analyzer-based x-ray diffraction imaging. Focusing of a portion of the reflected beam was demonstrated using Pt-coated mono capillary optics at a photon energy of 46 keV.

Abstract:
We demonstrate that photonic crystals can be used to generate powerful and highly coherent laser radiation when injecting a beam of free electrons. Using theoretical investigations we present the startup dynamics and coherence properties of such laser, in which gain is provided by matching the optical phase velocity in the photonic crystal to the velocity of the electron beam.

Abstract:
Intrinsically explosive growth of a ballooning finger is demonstrated in nonlinear magnetohydrodynamic calculations of high-$β$ disruptions in tokamaks. The explosive finger is formed by an ideally unstable n=1 mode, dominated by an m/n=2/1 component. The quadrupole geometry of the 2/1 perturbed pressure field provides a generic mechanism for the formation of the initial ballooning finger and its…

The quadrupole geometry of the 2/1 perturbed pressure field provides a generic mechanism for the formation of the initial ballooning finger and its subsequent transition from exponential to explosive growth, without relying on secondary processes. The explosive ejection of the hot plasma from the core and stochastization of the magnetic field occur in Alfvénic time scales, accounting for the extremely fast growth of the precursor oscillations and the rapidity of the thermal quench in some high-$β$ disruptions.

We present a method to map the absolute electromagnetic field strength inside photonic crystals. We apply the method to map the electric field component Ez of a two-dimensional photonic crystal slab at microwave frequencies. The slab is placed between two mirrors to select Bloch standing waves and a subwavelength spherical scatterer is scanned inside the resulting resonator. The resonant Bloch frequencies shift depending on the electric field at the position of the scatterer. To map the electric field component Ez we measure the frequency shift in the reflection and transmission spectrum of the slab versus the scatterer position. Very good agreement is found between measurements and calculations without any adjustable parameters.
