A dual concept of the angle in mathematics and practice
Abstract: We consider the angle in mathematics and arrive at a conclusion that there are two concepts on the issue. One is a descriptive geometrical one, while the other is from functional analysis. They are somewhat different, allow for different options, and both are legitimate and in use. Their difference may cause certain confusions. While the `geometrical angle' allows for different choice of units, th… ▽ More

Virtual Delbrück scattering and the Lamb shift in light hydrogen-like atoms
Abstract: We return to the problem of evaluation of the light-by-light contribution to the energy levels of the hydrogen atom. We find an additional contribution directly related to the Delbrück scattering amplitude. The new correction is larger than the previously included light-by-light terms at order~$α^2 (Zα)^6\ln(Zα)\, m_e$. Cosmological Variation of the Fine Structure Constant versus a new Interaction
Abstract: We show why a dynamically varying fine structure constant does not impact on the Webb group's analysis as suggested by Bekenstein. We also provide a limit on the size of a possible correction to the Dirac Hamiltonian caused by a perturbation due to a dynamically varying alpha in hydrogen.

New limit on the present temporal variation of the fine structure constant
Abstract: The comparison of different atomic transition frequencies over time can be used to determine the present value of the temporal derivative of the fine structure constant alpha in a model-independent way without assumptions on constancy or variability of other parameters. We have measured an optical transition frequency at 688 THz in ^{171}Yb+ with a cesium atomic clock at two times separated by 2… ▽ More

Search for Possible Variation of the Fine Structure Constant
Abstract: Determination of the fine structure constant alpha and search for its possible variation are considered. We focus on a role of the fine structure constant in modern physics and discuss precision tests of quantum electrodynamics. Different methods of a search for possible variations of fundamental constants are compared and those related to optical measurements are considered in detail.

NMR spectroscopy of hydrogen deuteride and magnetic moments of deuteron and triton
Abstract: Magnetic moments of free and bound deuteron and triton are considered and new results for their magnetic moments (in units of that of the proton) and their g factors are presented. We report on a measurement with medium-pressure hydrogen deuteride (HD) at 10 atm, which is to be compared with the previous measurement done at 100 atm. We confirm that the high pressure used in former experiments ca… ▽ More
