Designing a deterministic, bright, robust, room temperature stable, on-demand solid-state single photon source has been a major demand in the field of quantum-photonics. For this, various single-photon resonator and antenna schemes are being actively explored. Here, using the Cartesian multi-polar decomposition of the excited Mie-scattering moments, we present the design of a all-dielectric coupled-dipolar antenna comprising of two dielectric (Tin-oxide, TiO$_2$) cylinders sandwiching a nanodiamond based nitrogen-vacancy (NV$^-$) center trapped in a poly-vinyl alcohol (PVA) matrix. The Mie-scattering resonant cavity formed in the middle PVA layer provides more than an order of magnitude decay rate or Purcell enhancement. The balancing of the electric and magnetic dipolar moments (a phenomenon commonly known as the Kerker condition) of the coupled TiO$_2$ cylinders under NV$^-$ dipole excitation, provides significant directionality to the radiation pattern. Using a collection lens with a numerical aperture (NA) of 0.9 the vertical collection efficiency (VCE) was observed to be around 80\% at the NV$^-$ center's zero-phonon line wavelength.

While electric and magnetic dipolar resonances in SiC have been studied in the far-infrared, they have not been studied in the near infrared. Here we show for the first time that electromagnetic Mie-scattering moments within SiC metasurfaces can control the spontaneous emission process of point defects in the near infrared. Using SiC nanopillars based metasurfaces, we theoretically demonstrate a control over the spontaneous emission rate of embedded color-centers by using the coherent superposition of the electric dipolar and magnetic quadrupolar electromagnetic Mie-scattering moments of the structure. More than an order of magnitude emission/decay rate enhancement is obtained with the maximum enhancement close to 30. We also demonstrate that the relative phase of the Mie-scattering moments helps in controlling the emission directionality. SiC metasurfaces in the spectral range of color centres, from the visible to the near infrared, can be used to control the confinement and directionality of their spontaneous emission, increasing the opportunities to study light-matter interaction and to advance quantum photonic and quantum sensing device integration.

Generation of an ultra-bright, deterministic, solid-state single photon source with high photon collection rate is an imperative requirement for quantum technologies. In this direction, various nanophotonic systems coupled with single quantum emitters are being implemented, but results in low decay rate enhancement and MHz photon collection rate. Here, we unravel coherent superposition of excited Mie-scattering moments in a dipolar antenna, coupled with a single nitrogen-vacancy (NV-) center, to achieve bright single photon source with GHz collection rate. Such balancing of Mie-scattering moments, especially higher-order multi-polar moments, provide strong forward light scattering with null backward scattering at the generalized Kerker condition. This results in strong field intensity localization that can be used to shape the emission from an embedded NV- center in the dipolar antenna. A relative decay rate enhancement of more than 300 times with collection efficiency exceeding 75% is achieved that result in photon collection rate of ~ 5 GHz. The calculated intensity-intensity correlation confirms bright single photon emission with enhanced rate and collection efficiency.

Metasurfaces have the ability to control classical and non-classical states of light to achieve controlled emission even at the level of single emitter. Here, we unveil the Kerker condition induced emission rate enhancement with strong directivity from a single emitter integrated within a dielectric metasurface consists of silicon nano-disks. The simulation and analytical calculations attest the Kerker condition with unidirectional light scattering evolved by the constructive interference between electric dipole, toroidal dipole, and the magnetic quadrupole. The results evince spatially-dependent enhanced local density of optical states which reciprocates localized field intensity. The rate enhancement of 400 times is achieved at zero phonon line of nitrogen-vacancy center with superior emission directivity and collection efficiency. The results have implications in on-demand single photon generation, spin-photon interface, many-body interactions, and strong coupling.

We model the broadband enhancement of single-photon emission from color centres in silicon carbide nanocrystals coupled to a planar hyperbolic metamaterial, HMM resonator. The design is based on positioning the single photon emitters within the HMM resonator, made of a dielectric index-matched with silicon-carbide material. The broadband response results from the successive resonance peaks of the lossy Fabry Perot structure modes arising within the high-index HMM cavity. To capture this broadband enhancement in the single photon emitters spontaneous emission, we placed a simple gold based cylindrical antenna on top of the HMM resonator. We analyzed the performance of this HMM coupled antenna structure in terms of the Purcell enhancement, quantum efficiency, collection efficiency and overall collected photon rate. For perpendicular dipole orientation relative to the interface, the HMM coupled antenna resonator leads to a significantly large spontaneous emission enhancement with Purcell factor of the order of 250 along with a very high average total collected photon rate, CPR of about 30 over a broad emission spectrum, 700 nm to 1000 nm. The peak CPR increases to about 80 at 900 nm, corresponding to the emission of silicon-carbide quantum emitters. This is a state of the art improvement considering the previous computational designs have reported a maximum average CPR of 25 across the nitrogen-vacancy centre emission spectrum, 600 nm to 800 nm with the highest value being about 40 at 650 nm.

Colour centres in diamond are promising candidates as a platform for quantum technologies and biomedical imaging based on spins and/or photons. Controlling the emission properties of colour centres in diamond is a key requirement for develo** efficient single photon sources with high collection efficiency. A number of groups have produced enhancement in the emission rate over narrow wavelength ranges by coupling single emitters in nanodiamond crystals to resonant electromagnetic structures. Here we characterise in detail the spontaneous emission rates of nitrogen-vacancy centres positioned in various locations on a structured substrate. We show an average factor of 1.5 enhancement of the total emission rate when nanodiamonds are on an opal photonic crystal surface, and observe changes in the lifetime distribution. We present a model to explain these observations and associate the lifetime properties with dipole orientation and polarization effects.
