Multichannel quantum defect theory is applied in the treatment of the dissociative recombination and vibrational excitation processes for the BeD$^+$ ion in the twenty four vibrational levels of its ground electronic state ($\textrm{X}\,{^{1}Σ^{+}},v_{i}^{+}=0\ldots 23$). Three electronic symmetries of BeD$^{**}$ states (\ensuremath{^{2}Π}, \ensuremath{^{2}Σ^{+}}, and \ensuremath{^{2}Δ}), are considered in the calculation of cross sections and the corresponding rate coefficients. The incident electron energy range is $10^{-5}$--2.7 eV and the electron temperature range is 100--5000~K. The vibrational dependence of these collisional processes is highlighted. The resulting data are useful in magnetic confinement fusion edge plasma modelling and spectroscopy, in devices with beryllium based main chamber materials, such as ITER and JET, and operating with the deuterium-tritium fuel mix. An extensive rate coefficients database is presented in graphical form and also by analytic fit functions whose parameters are tabulated in the supplementary material.

The latest molecular data - potential energy curves and Rydberg$/$valence interactions - characterizing the super-excited electronic states of CO are reviewed, in order to provide inputs for the study of their fragmentation dynamics. Starting from this input, the main paths and mechanisms for CO$^+$ dissociative recombination are analyzed; its cross sections are computed using a method based on Multichannel Quantum Defect Theory. Convoluted cross sections, giving both isotropic and anisotropic Maxwellian rate-coefficients, are compared with merged-beam and storage-ring experimental results. The calculated cross sections underestimate the measured ones by a factor of $2$, but display a very similar resonant shape. These facts confirm the quality of our approach for the dynamics, and call for more accurate and more extensive molecular structure calculations.

The present study explores combining machine learning (ML) algorithms with standard optical diagnostics (such as time-integrated emission spectroscopy and imaging) to accurately predict operating conditions and assess the emission uniformity of a cylindrical surface Dielectric Barrier Discharge (SDBD). It is demonstrated that ML can be complementary with these optical diagnostics and identify peculiarities associated with the discharge emission pattern at different high voltage waveforms (AC and pulsed) and amplitudes. By employing unsupervised (Principal Component Analysis (PCA)) and supervised (Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) neural networks) algorithms, the applied voltage waveform and amplitude are categorised and predicted based on correlations/differences identified within large amounts of corresponding data. PCA allowed us to effectively classify the voltage waveforms and amplitudes applied to the SDBD through a transformation of the spectroscopic/imaging data into principal components (PCs) and their projection to a two-dimensional PC space. Furthermore, an accurate prediction of the voltage amplitude is achieved using the MLP which is trained with PCA-preprocessed data. A particularly interesting aspect of this concept involves examining the uniformity of the emission pattern of the discharge. This is achieved by analysing spectroscopic data recorded at four different regions around the SDBD surface using the two ML-based techniques. These discoveries are instrumental in enhancing plasma-induced processes. They open up new avenues for real-time control, monitoring, and optimization of plasma-based applications across diverse fields such as flow control for the present SDBD.

The present study focuses on the application of a picosecond (ps) TALIF technique in krypton (Kr) at variable pressure (0.1-10 mbar). The laser intensity (I, units W.cm$^{-2}$) is tuned between 1 and 480 MW.cm$^{-2}$, and the depletion of the density of the Kr 5p'[3/2]$_2$ fluorescing state through photoionization (PIN) and amplified stimulated emission (ASE) is investigated. This is done by combining TALIF experiments with a simple 0D numerical model. We demonstrate that for a gas pressure of 3 mbar and 15 < $\le$ 480 MW.cm$^{-2}$, a saturated fluorescence signal is obtained, which is largely attributed to PIN, ASE being negligible. Also, a broadening of the two-photon absorption line (i.e. 4p$^6$ $^1$S0$\to$5p'[3/2]$_2$) is recorded due to the production of charged species through PIN, inducing a Stark effect. For I$\le$15 MW.cm$^{-2}$, though, PIN is significantly limited, the absorption line is noticeably narrowed, and the quadratic dependence of the TALIF signal intensity versus the laser energy is obtained. Thus, in this case, the investigated Kr TALIF scheme, using the 5p'[3/2]$_2\to$5s[3/2]$_1$ fluorescence channel, can be used for calibration purposes in ps-TALIF experiments. These results are of interest for fundamental research since most ps-TALIF studies performed in Kr do not investigate in detail the role of PIN and ASE on the depletion of the Kr 5p'[3/2]$_2$ state density. Moreover, this work contributes to the development of ps-TALIF for determining absolute densities and quenching coefficients of H and N atoms in plasmas. This is useful in numerous plasma-based applications (e.g. thin film synthesis, biomedical treatments, plasma-assisted combustion, ...), for which the knowledge of the density/kinetics of reactive atoms is essential.

A simplified and straightforward methodology that may be used to measure N(4 S) density by TALIF technique in strongly emissive plasmas is presented. The method makes use of the absorption peak intensities instead of the fully integrated absorption line intensity. The use of this method, along with a physics-based fitting/filtering procedure enables strongly reducing the experimental uncertainty and performing measurement even in strongly emitting discharges. After validation, the method was employed to investigate the transients of a strongly emissive pulsed microwave discharge. We especially showed the existence of unexpected increase of N(4 S) density at the early stage of the transition from high-to lowpower phase. The use of a self-consistent quasi-homogenous plasma model taking into account a detailed state-to-state kinetics, enables to attribute this enhancement to surface deexcitation of N(2 D) and N(2 P).

One of the most challenging and recurring problems when modelling plasmas is the lack of data on key atomic and molecular reactions that drive plasma processes. Even when there are data for some reactions, complete and validated datasets of chemistries are rarely available. This hinders research on plasma processes and curbs development of industrial applications. The QDB project aims to address this problem by providing a platform for provision, exchange, and validation of chemistry datasets. A new data model developed for QDB is presented. QDB collates published data on both electron scattering and heavy-particle reactions. These data are formed into reaction sets, which are then validated against experimental data where possible. This process produces both complete chemistry sets and identifies key reactions that are currently unreported in the literature. Gaps in the datasets can be filled using established theoretical methods. Initial validated chemistry sets for SF$_6$/CF$_4$/O$_2$ and SF$_6$/CF$_4$/N$_2$/H$_2$ are presented as examples.

- We made use of a combination of three models that describe plasma equilibrium, cluster kinetics and aerosol dynamics in order to investigate solid carbonaceous dust formation in a DC gas discharge where the carbon source is provided by a graphite cathode sputtering. This enabled us to determine the time-evolution of some of the particle characteristics, e., g. total density, mean-diameter, average-charge as function of the sputtering yield. We showed that for few minutes discharge duration, the particle density reaches 10 7-10 8 cm-3 , the particle mean diameter is approximately 40 nm and the particle size distributions are bimodal for all the investigated conditions. We also showed that the variation of the sputtering yield affects in a quite unexpected way the interplay between the phenomena involved in the aerosol dynamics. Basically, larger sputtering yields result in larger density and coagulation rate on one hand, and in a limited nucleation and surface sticking kinetics on the other hand.
