Glitches are transitory noise artifacts that degrade the detection sensitivity and accuracy of interferometric observatories such as LIGO and Virgo in gravitational wave astronomy. Reliable glitch subtraction techniques are essential for separating genuine gravitational wave signals from background noise and improving the accuracy of astrophysical investigations. This review study summarizes the main glitch subtraction methods used in the industry. We talk about the efficacy of classic time-domain techniques in real-time applications, like matched filtering and regression methods. The robustness of frequency-domain approaches, such as wavelet transformations and spectral analysis, in detecting and mitigating non-stationary glitches is assessed. We also investigate sophisticated machine learning methods, demonstrating great potential in automatically identifying and eliminating intricate glitch patterns. We hope to provide a thorough understanding of these approaches' uses, difficulties, and potential for future development in gravitational wave data analysis by contrasting their advantages and disadvantages. Researchers looking to enhance glitch subtraction procedures and raise the accuracy of gravitational wave detections will find great value in this paper.

The advanced multijunction solar cell (MJSC) has emerged as a frontrunner with higher efficiency in photovoltaic literature. It started its journey with a modest 20% efficient tandem solar cell, and today, it has reached an impressive 47.1% photoconversion efficiency (PCE) with six junction combinations. Since the early 1990s, these solar cells have been utilised for space applications. Recently, there has been a trend of using this genre for terrestrial applications as well. However, the complexity and high cost of the fabrication procedure have been the significant challenges over the last three decades. The photovoltaic (PV) community has witnessed a variety of fabrication approaches to address these hurdles. This paper reviews the progression of computational and experimental research approaches of III-V MJSCs and their fabrication processes. In addition, it addresses the barriers hindering the progress of these cells and their prospects. This review gathers insights from a handful number of articles on III-V MJSCs to provide a comprehensive guide for the new entrants, experts and practitioners about the research methodologies, growth techniques, current status, challenges, and opportunities in a timely and conscious manner.

In this study, the first-of-its-kind use of active learning (AL) framework in thermal spray is adapted to improve the prediction accuracy of the in-flight particle characteristics and uses Gaussian Process (GP) ML model as a surrogate that generalises a global solution without necessarily involving physical mechanisms. The AL framework via the Bayesian Optimisation was utilised to: (a) reduce the maximum uncertainty in the given database and (b) reduce local uncertainty around a contrived test point. The initial dataset consists of 26 atmospheric plasma spray (APS) parameters of silicon, aimed at ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) for the next generation of aerospace applications. The maximum uncertainty in the initial dataset was reduced by AL-driven identification of search spaces and conducting six guided spray trails in the identified search spaces. On average, a 52.9% improvement (error reduction) of RMSE and an R2 increase of 8.5% were reported on the predicted in-flight particle velocities and temperatures after the AL-driven optimisation. Furthermore, the Bayesian Optimisation around a contrived test point to predict the best possible characteristics resulted in a three-fold increase in prediction accuracy as compared to the non-optimised prediction. These AL-guided experimental validations not only increase the informativeness of the limited dataset but is adaptable for other thermal spraying methods without necessarily involving physical mechanisms and underlying mechanisms. The use of AL-driven optimisation may drive the thermal spraying towards resource-efficiency and may serve as the first step towards fully digital thermal spraying environments.

However, most numerical investigations to date are limited to PCF-SPR sensors with conventional circularly coated plasmonic metals due to their availability and rigid properties. In this work, a single-core arc-shaped photonic crystal fiber is designed and studied with sensing ingredients coated outside the fiber. The simulation and numerical analyses were performed using the full-vector finite element method (FV-FEM) to examine the effects of using gold as active metal and also the deposition of $Ta_2 O_5$ on gold. The results show that the arc-shaped sensor with gold film can obtain the maximum wavelength interrogation sensitivity (WIS) of 9500 nm/RIU within the refractive index (RI) range of 1.25 to 1.39 while the maximum amplitude interrogation sensitivity (AIS) is reached 579.26 $RIU^{-1}$ at 1.39 and resolution is found to be 1.05 x ${10^{-5}}$. However, depositing $Ta_2 O_5$ on the gold gives an improved maximum WIS and AIS of 22000 nm/RIU, and 1209.21 $RIU^{-1}$, respectively. With the coating of $Ta_2 O_5$, the resolution improves to 4.55 x ${10^{-6}}$ making the proposed sensor design undoubtedly effective in detecting different biological samples with a wide range of RI.

Focused ion beam (FIB) techniques have been frequently used to section metal-halide perovskites for microstructural investigations. However, the ion beams directly irradiated to the sample surface may alter the properties far different from pristine, potentially leading to modified deterioration mechanisms under aging stressors. Here, we combine complementary approaches to measure the subsurface characteristics of polished perovskite and identify the chemical species responsible for the measured properties. Analysis of the experimental results in conjunction with Monte Carlo simulations indicates that atomic displacements and local heating occur in the subsurface of methylammonium lead iodide (MAPbI3) by glazing Ar+ beam irradiation (15 nm by 4 kV at 3 degree). The lead-rich, iodine-deficient surface promotes rapid phase segregation under thermal aging conditions. On the other hand, despite the subsurface modification, our experiments confirm the rest of the MAPbI3 bulk retains the material integrity. Our observation supports that polished perovskites could serve in studying the properties of bulk or buried junctions far away from the altered subsurface with care.

We report deterministic control over moiré superlattice interference pattern in twisted bilayer graphene by implementing designable device-level heterostrain with process-induced strain engineering, a widely used technique in industrial silicon nanofabrication processes. By depositing stressed thin films onto our twisted bilayer graphene samples, heterostrain magnitude and strain directionality can be controlled by stressor film force (film stress x film thickness) and patterned stressor geometry, respectively. We examine strain and moiré interference with Raman spectroscopy through in-plane and moiré-activated phonon mode shifts. Results support systematic C$_{3}$ rotational symmetry breaking and tunable periodicity in moiré superlattices under the application of uniaxial or biaxial heterostrain. Experimental results are validated by molecular statics simulations and density functional theory based first principles calculations. This provides a method to not only tune moiré interference without additional twisting, but also allows for a systematic pathway to explore different van der Waals based moiré superlattice symmetries by deterministic design.

Using porous structures of Co3O4, Mn3O4, alpha Fe2O3, and carbon, their advantages over the solid counterpart is unequivocally established. The improved performance in porous architecture is linked to the enhanced active specific surface and direct channels leading to improved electrolyte interaction with the redox active sites. A theoretical model utilizing the Fick's law is proposed, that can consistently explain the experimental data. The porous structures exhibit nearly 50 - 80 percentage increment in specific capacitance, along with high rate capabilities and excellent cycling stability due to the higher diffusion coefficients.

Accurately inferring underlying electrophysiological (EP) tissue properties from action potential recordings is expected to be clinically useful in the diagnosis and treatment of arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation, but it is notoriously difficult to perform. We present EP-PINNs (Physics-Informed Neural Networks), a novel tool for accurate action potential simulation and EP parameter estimation, from sparse amounts of EP data. We demonstrate, using 1D and 2D in silico data, how EP-PINNs are able to reconstruct the spatio-temporal evolution of action potentials, whilst predicting parameters related to action potential duration (APD), excitability and diffusion coefficients. EP-PINNs are additionally able to identify heterogeneities in EP properties, making them potentially useful for the detection of fibrosis and other localised pathology linked to arrhythmias. Finally, we show EP-PINNs effectiveness on biological in vitro preparations, by characterising the effect of anti-arrhythmic drugs on APD using optical map** data. EP-PINNs are a promising clinical tool for the characterisation and potential treatment guidance of arrhythmias.

The Burgers' equation is derived by employing reductive perturbation method. The plasma model supports both positive and negative shock structures in the presence of static negatively charged massive dust grains. It is found that the steepness of both positive and negative shock profiles declines with the increase of ion kinematic viscosity without affecting the height, and the temperature of the electrons enhances the amplitude of the shock profile. It is also observed that the increase in oblique angle rises the height of the positive shock profile, and the height of the positive shock wave increases with the number density of positron. The application of the findings from present investigation are briefly discussed.

The propagation of dust-ion-acoustic shock waves (DIASHWs) in a three-component magnetized plasma having inertialess super-thermal electrons, inertial warm positive ions and negative dust grains has been investigated. A Burgers' equation is derived by employing the reductive perturbation method. Under consideration of inertial warm positive ions and negative dust grains, both positive and negative shock structures are numerically observed in the presence of super-thermal electrons. The effects of oblique angle ($δ$), spectral index ($κ$), kinematic viscosity ($η$), number density and charge state of the plasma species on the formation of the DIASHWs are examined. It is found that the positive and negative shock wave potentials increase with the oblique angle. It is also observed that the magnitude of the amplitude of positive and negative shock waves is not affected by the variation of the kinematic viscosity of plasma species but the steepness of the positive and negative shock waves decreases with kinematic viscosity of plasma species. To date, there have been relatively few direct comparisons of these codes in the literature, especially for relativistic intensity lasers interacting with thin overdense targets. To address this we perform a code comparison of three PIC codes: EPOCH, LSP, and WarpX for the problem of laser-driven ion acceleration in a 2D(3v) geometry for a $10^{20}$ W cm$^{-2}$ intensity laser. We examine the plasma density, ion energy spectra, and laser-plasma coupling of the three codes and find strong agreement. We also run the same simulation 20 times with different random seeds to explore statistical fluctuations of the outputs. We then compare the execution times and memory usage of the codes (without "tuning" to improve performance) using between 1 and 48 processors on one node. We provide input files to encourage larger and more frequent code comparisons in this field.

A proper theoretical research has been carried out to explore the modulational instability (MI) conditions of dust-ion-acoustic (DIA) waves (DIAWs) in a three-component dusty plasma system containing inertialess $κ$-distributed electrons, and inertial warm positive ions and negative dust grains. The novel nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) has been derived by employing the reductive perturbation method. The analysis under consideration demonstrates two types of modes, namely, fast and slow DIA modes. The dispersion and nonlinear properties of the plasma medium, as well as the MI conditions of DIAWs and the configuration of the energetic rogue waves (RWs) associated with DIAWs in the Modulationally unstable regime, have been rigorously changed by the plasma parameters, namely, charge, mass, temperature, and number density of the plasma species. The findings of our investigation will be useful in understanding the criteria for the formation of electrostatic RWs in both astrophysical environments (viz., Jupiter's magnetosphere, cometary tails, Earth's mesosphere, Saturn's rings, etc.) and laboratory experiments (viz., Q-machines and Coulomb-crystal).

Bioprinting is an enabling biofabrication technique to create heterogeneous tissue constructs according to patient-specific geometries and compositions. Optimization of bioinks as per requirements for specific tissue applications is a critical exercise in ensuring clinical translation of the bioprinting technologies. Most notably, optimum hydrogel polymer concentrations are required to ensure adequate mechanical properties of bioprinted constructs without causing significant shear stresses on cells. However, experimental iterations are often tedious for optimizing the bioink properties. In this work, a finite element modelling approach has been undertaken to determine the effect of different bioink parameters like composition, concentration on the range of stresses being experienced by the cells in a bioprinting process. The stress distribution of the cells at different parts of the constructs has also been modelled. It is found that both bioink chemical compositions and stoichiometric concentrations can substantially alter the stress effects experienced by the cells. Similarly, concentrated regions of soft cells near the pore regions were found to increase stress concentrations by almost three times compared to the Von-Mises stress generated around the region of cells away from the pores. The study outlines the importance of finite element models in the rapid development of bioinks.

Atomic-level studies demonstrate high crystalline quality and uniform composition and show no sign of short-range ordering and clusters. Room temperature spectroscopic ellipsometry and transmission measurements show direct bandgap absorption at 0.83 eV and a reduced indirect bandgap absorption at lower energies. Si0.06Ge0.90Sn0.04 photoconductive devices operating at room temperature exhibit dark current and spectral responsivity (1 A/W below 1.5 μm wavelengths) similar to Ge on Si devices, with the advantage of a near-infrared band gap tunable by alloy composition. These results underline the relevance of SiGeSn semiconductors in implementing a group IV material platform for silicon-integrated infrared optoelectronics.

A theoretical investigation associated with obliquely propagating ion-acoustic shock waves (IASHWs) in a three-component magnetized plasma having inertialess non-extensive electrons, inertial warm positive and negative ions has been performed. A Burgers equation is derived by employing the reductive perturbation method. Our plasma model supports both positive and negative shock structures under the consideration of non-extensive electrons. It is found that the positive and negative shock wave potentials increase with the oblique angle ($δ$) which arises due to the external magnetic field. It is also observed that the magnitude of the amplitude of positive and negative shock waves is not effected by the variation of the ion kinematic viscosity but the steepness of the positive and negative shock waves decreases with ion kinematic viscosity. The implications of our findings in space and laboratory plasmas are briefly discussed.

The modulational instability (MI) criteria of dust-ion-acoustic (DIA) waves (DIAWs) have been investigated in a four-component pair-ion plasma having inertial pair-ions, inertialess non-thermal non-extensive electrons, and immobile negatively charged massive dust grains. A nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) is derived by using reductive perturbation method. The nonlinear and dispersive coefficients of the NLSE can predict the modulationally stable and unstable parametric regimes of DIAWs and associated first and second order DIA rogue waves (DIARWs). The MI growth rate and the configuration of the DIARWs are examined, and it is found that the MI growth rate increases (decreases) with increasing the number density of the negatively charged dust grains in the presence (absence) of the negative ions. It is also observed that the amplitude and width of the DIARWs increase (decrease) with the negative (positive) ion mass. The implications of the results to laboratory and space plasmas are briefly discussed.

We investigate methods of microstructure representation for the purpose of predicting processing condition from microstructure image data. A binary alloy (uranium-molybdenum) that is currently under development as a nuclear fuel was studied for the purpose of develo** an improved machine learning approach to image recognition, characterization, and building predictive capabilities linking microstructure to processing conditions. Here, we test different microstructure representations and evaluate model performance based on the F1 score. A F1 score of 95.1% was achieved for distinguishing between micrographs corresponding to ten different thermo-mechanical material processing conditions. We find that our newly developed microstructure representation describes image data well, and the traditional approach of utilizing area fractions of different phases is insufficient for distinguishing between multiple classes using a relatively small, imbalanced original data set of 272 images. To explore the applicability of generative methods for supplementing such limited data sets, generative adversarial networks were trained to generate artificial microstructure images. Two different generative networks were trained and tested to assess performance. Challenges and best practices associated with applying machine learning to limited microstructure image data sets is also discussed. Our work has implications for quantitative microstructure analysis, and development of microstructure-processing relationships in limited data sets typical of metallurgical process design studies.

A theoretical investigation has been made to understand the mechanism of the formation of both bright and dark envelope soltions associated with dust-ion-acoustic waves (DIAWs) propagating in an unmagnetized three component dusty plasma medium having inertial warm positive ions and negative dust grains, and inertialess non-thermal Cairns' distributed electrons. A nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) is derived by employing reductive perturbation method. The effects of plasma parameters, viz., $γ_2$ (the ratio of the positive ion temperature to electron temperature times the charge state of ion) and $ν$ (the ratio of the charge state of negative dust grain to positive ion) on the modulational instability of DIAW which is governed by NLSE, are extensively studied. It is found that increasing the value of the ion (electron) temperature reduces (enhances) the critical wave number ($k_c$). The results of our present theoretical work may be used to interpret the nonlinear electrostatic structures which can exist in many astrophysical environments and laboratory plasmas.

The development of ultra-intense laser-based sources of high energy ions is an important goal, with a variety of potential applications. One of the barriers to achieving this goal is the need to maximize the conversion efficiency from laser energy to ion energy. We apply a new approach to this problem, in which we use an evolutionary algorithm to optimize conversion efficiency by exploring variations of the target density profile with thousands of one-dimensional particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations. We then compare this "optimal" target identified by the one-dimensional PIC simulations to more conventional choices, such as with an exponential scale length pre-plasma, with fully three-dimensional PIC simulations. The optimal target outperforms the conventional targets in terms of maximum ion energy by 20% and show a significant enhancement of conversion efficiency to high energy ions. This target geometry enhances laser coupling to the electrons, while still allowing the laser to strongly reflect from an effectively thin target. These results underscore the potential for this statistics-driven approach to guide research into optimizing laser-plasma simulations and experiments.

When a relativistic intensity laser interacts with the surface of a solid density target, suprathermal electron currents are subject to Weibel instability filamentation when propagating through the thermal population of the bulk target. We present time resolved shadowgraphy of radial ionization front expansion and Weibel instability filamentation within a thin, sub-micron, sheet initiated by irradiation with a short pulse, high intensity laser. High temporal (100 fs) and spatial (1 $μ$m) resolution shadowgraphy of the interaction reveals a relativistic expansion of the ionization front within a 120 $μ$m diameter region surrounding the laser-target interaction, corroborated by simulations to expand at $0.77c$, where $c$ is the speed of light. Filamentation within the patch persists for several picoseconds and seeds the eventual recombination and heating dynamics on the nanosecond timescale. Particle-in-cell simulations were conducted to elucidate the electron dynamics leading to the radial expansion of the critical surface. Computational results report the ionization expansion is due to field ionization of the expanding hot electron population. Filamentation within the expansion is due to the Weibel instability which is supported by the magnetic fields present.

Driven non-linear resonators can display sharp resonances or even multistable behaviours amenable to induce strong enhancements of weak signals. Such enhancements can make use of the phenomenon of vibrational resonance whereby a weak low-frequency signal applied to a bistable resonator can be amplified by driving the non-linear oscillator with another appropriately-adjusted non-resonant high-frequency field. Here we demonstrate the resonant enhancement of a weak signal by use of a vibrational force yet in a monostable system consisting of a driven nano-electromechanical nonlinear resonator. The oscillator is subjected to a strong quasi-resonant drive and to two additional tones: a weak signal at lower frequency and a non-resonant driving at an intermediate frequency. We show experimentally and theoretically a significant enhancement of the weak signal thanks to the occurence of vibrational resonance enabled by the presence of the intermediate frequency driving. We analyse this phenomenon in terms of coherent nonlinear resonance manipulation. Our results illustrate a general mechanism which may have applications in the fields of radio-frequency signal processing or sensing for instance.

Computational catalyst discovery involves the development of microkinetic reactor models based on estimated parameters determined from density functional theory (DFT). For complex surface chemistries, the cost of calculating the adsorption energies by DFT for a large number of reaction intermediates can become prohibitive. Here, we have identified appropriate descriptors and machine learning models that can be used to predict part of these adsorption energies given data on the rest of them. Our investigations also included the case when the species data used to train the predictive model is of different size relative to the species the model tries to predict - an extrapolation in the data space which is typically difficult with regular machine learning models. We have developed a neural network based predictive model that combines an established model with the concepts of a convolutional neural network that, when extrapolating, achieves significant improvement over the previous models.

Theoretical investigation of the nonlinear propagation and modulational instability (MI) of the dust acoustic (DA) waves (DAWs) in an unmagnetized electron depleted dusty plasma (containing opposite polarity warm dust grains and non-extensive positive ions) has been made by deriving a nonlinear Schrödinger equation with the help of perturbation method. Two types of mode, namely, fast and slow DA modes, have been found. The criteria for the formation of bright and dark envelope solitons as well as the first-order and second-order rogue waves have been observed. The effects of various dusty plasma parameters (viz., dust mass, dust charge, dust and ion number densities, etc.) on the MI of DAWs have been identified. It is found that these dusty plasma parameters significantly modify the basic features of the DAWs. The applications of the results obtained from this theoretical investigation in different regions of space, viz., magnetosphere of Jupiter, upper mesosphere, Saturn's F-ring, and cometary tail, etc.

A rigorous theoretical investigation is made to study the characteristics of dust-acoustic (DA) waves (DAWs) in an electron depleted unmagnetized opposite polarity dusty plasma system that contains super-thermal ($κ$-distributed) ions, mobile positively and negatively charged dust grains for the first time. The reductive perturbation method is employed to obtain the NLSE to explore the modulational instability (MI) conditions for DAWs as well as the formation and characteristics of gigantic rogue waves. The nonlinear and dispersion properties of the dusty plasma medium are the prime reasons behind the formation of rogue waves. The height and thickness of the DARWs associated with DAWs as well as the MI conditions of DAWs are numerically analyzed by changing different dusty plasma parameters, such as dust charges, dust and ion number densities, and ion-temperature, etc. The implications of the results for various space dusty plasma systems (viz., mesosphere, F-rings of Saturn, and cometary atmosphere, etc.) as well as laboratory dusty plasma produced by laser-matter interaction are briefly mentioned.

We use particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations and simple analytic models to investigate the laser-plasma interaction known as ponderomotive steepening. When normally incident laser light reflects at the critical surface of a plasma, the resulting standing electromagnetic wave modifies the electron density profile via the ponderomotive force, which creates peaks in the electron density separated by approximately half of the laser wavelength. What is less well studied is how this charge imbalance accelerates ions towards the electron density peaks, modifying the ion density profile of the plasma. Idealized PIC simulations with an extended underdense plasma shelf are used to isolate the dynamics of ion density peak growth for a 42 fs pulse from an 800 nm laser with an intensity of 10$^{18}$ W cm$^{-2}$. These simulations exhibit sustained longitudinal electric fields of 200 GV m$^{-1}$, which produce counter-steaming populations of ions reaching a few keV in energy. We compare these simulations to theoretical models, and we explore how ion energy depends on factors such as the plasma density and the laser wavelength, pulse duration, and intensity. We also provide relations for the strength of longitudinal electric fields and an approximate timescale for the density peaks to develop. These conclusions may be useful investigating the phenomenon of ponderomotive steepening as advances in laser technology allow shorter and more intense pulses to be produced at various wavelengths. We also discuss the parallels with other work studying the interference from two counter-propagating laser pulses.

The basic properties of nonlinear ion-acoustic (IA) waves (IAWs), particularly finite amplitude IA rogue waves (IARWs) in a plasma medium (containing pair ions, iso-thermal positrons and non-thermal electrons) are theoretically investigated by deriving the nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE). The criteria for the modulational instability of IAWs, and the basic features of finite amplitude IARWs are identified. The modulationally stable and unstable regions are determined by the sign of the ratio of the dispersive coefficient to the nonlinear coefficient of NLSE. The latter is analyzed to obtain the region for the existence of the IARWs, which corresponds to the unstable region. The shape of the profile of the rogue waves depends on the non-thermal parameter $α$ and the ratio of electron temperature to positron temperature. It is found that the increase in the value of the non-thermal parameter enhances both the amplitude and width of IARWs, and that the enhancement of positron (electron) temperature reduces (enhances) the amplitude and width of IARWs. It is worth to mention that our present investigation may be useful for understanding the salient features of IARWs in space (viz., upper region of Titan's atmosphere, cometary comae, and Earth's ionosphere, etc.) and laboratory (viz., plasma processing reactor and neutral beam sources, etc.) plasmas.

A double pair plasma system containing cold inertial positive and negative ions, and inertialess super-thermal electrons and positrons is considered. The standard nonlinear Schrödinger equation is derived by using the reductive perturbation method to investigate the nonlinear dynamics of the ion-acoustic waves (IAWs) as well as their modulation instability. It is observed that the ion-acoustic dark (bright) envelope solitons are formed for modulationally stable (unstable) plasma region, and that the presence of highly dense super-thermal electrons and positrons enhances (reduces) this unstable (stable) region. It is also found that the effect of super-thermality of electron or positron species causes to increase the nonlinearity, and to fasten the formation of the bright envelope solitons. These results are applicable to both space and laboratory plasma systems for understanding the propagation of localized electrostatic disturbances.

Social networks facilitate the social space where actors or the users have ties among them. The ties and their patterns are based on their life styles and communication. Similarly, in online social media networks like Facebook, Twitter, Myspace etc., multiple users belong to multiple specific communities. The social network represents large real-world directed social graphs. Detection of communities or clusters from these graphs is a problem of considerable research interest. The communities are formed using the neighboring nodes that have common edges and common attributes. Most of the existing community detection algorithms usually consider node contents to analyze the attributes of community. Some algorithms use the links between the nodes to determine the dense regions in the graph. But utilizing both the edge content and the vertex content to detect community are yet to be considered and verified, since the traditional extraction methods of vertex and edge data do not consider the connectivity among the nodes. This paper presents an Interlinked Spatial Clustering Model (ILSCM) which provides relevant content selection and extraction of the temporal topics for identifying the betweenness among the nodes based on the context keys to detect community.

To derive the NLSE, the reductive perturbation method has been employed. Two different parametric regions for stable and unstable DAWs are observed. The presence of super-thermal electrons, positrons and ions significantly modifies both the stable and unstable regions. The critical wave number $k_c$ (at which modulational instability sets in) depends on the super-thermal electron, positron, and ion, and adiabatic dust concentrations.

High intensity laser-plasma interactions produce a wide array of energetic particles and beams with promising applications. Unfortunately, high repetition rate and high average power requirements for many applications are not satisfied by the lasers, optics, targets, and diagnostics currently employed. Here, we address the need for high repetition rate targets and optics through the use of liquids. A novel nozzle assembly is used to generate high-velocity, laminar-flowing liquid microjets which are compatible with a low-vacuum environment, generate little to no debris, and exhibit precise positional and dimensional tolerances. Jets, droplets, submicron thick sheets, and other configurations are characterized with pump-probe shadowgraphy to evaluate their use as targets. To demonstrate a high repetition rate, consumable liquid optical element, we present a plasma mirror created by a submicron thick liquid sheet. This plasma mirror provides etalon-like anti-reflection properties in the low-field of 0.1% and high reflectivity as a plasma, 69%, at a repetition rate of 1 kHz. Practical considerations of fluid compatibility, in-vacuum operation, and estimates of maximum repetition rate, in excess of 10 kHz, are addressed. The targets and optics presented here enable the use of relativistically intense lasers at high average power and make possible many long proposed applications.
