Personalized cardiac mechanics modeling is a powerful tool for understanding the biomechanics of cardiac function in health and disease and assisting in treatment planning. However, current models are limited to using medical images acquired at a single cardiac phase, often limiting their applicability for processing dynamic image acquisitions. This study introduces an inverse finite element analysis (iFEA) framework to estimate the passive mechanical properties of cardiac tissue using time-dependent medical image data. The iFEA framework relies on a novel nested optimization scheme, in which the outer iterations utilize a traditional optimization method to best approximate material parameters that fit image data, while the inner iterations employ an augmented Sellier's algorithm to estimate the stress-free reference configuration. With a focus on characterizing the passive mechanical behavior, the framework employs structurally based anisotropic hyperelastic constitutive models and physiologically relevant boundary conditions to simulate myocardial mechanics. We use a stabilized variational multiscale formulation for solving the governing nonlinear elastodynamics equations, verified for cardiac mechanics applications. The framework is tested in myocardium models of biventricle and left atrium derived from cardiac phase-resolved computed tomographic (CT) images of a healthy subject and three patients with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM). The impact of the choice of optimization methods and other numerical settings, including fiber direction parameters, mesh size, initial parameters for optimization, and perturbations to optimal material parameters, is assessed using a rigorous sensitivity analysis. The performance of the current iFEA is compared against an assumed power-law-based pressure-volume relation, typically used for single-phase image acquisition.

Phonons traveling in solid-state devices are emerging as a universal excitation that can couple to different physical systems through mechanical interaction. At microwave frequencies and in solid-state materials, phonons have a similar wavelength to optical photons, enabling them to interact efficiently with light and produce strong optomechanical effects that are highly desirable for classical and quantum signal transduction between optical and microwave. It becomes conceivable to build optomechanical integrated circuits (OMIC) that guide both photons and phonons and interconnect discrete photonic and phononic devices. Here, we demonstrate an OMIC including an optomechanical ring resonator (OMR), in which infrared photons and GHz phonons co-resonate to induce significantly enhanced interconversion. The OMIC is built on a hybrid platform where wide bandgap semiconductor gallium phosphide (GaP) is used as the waveguiding material and piezoelectric zinc oxide (ZnO) is used for phonon generation. The OMR features photonic and phononic quality factors of $>1\times10^5$ and $3.2\times10^3$, respectively, and resonantly enhances the optomechanical conversion between photonic modes to achieve an internal conversion efficiency $η_i=(2.1\pm0.1)%$ and a total device efficiency $η_{tot}=0.57\times10^{-6}$ at a low acoustic pump power of 1.6 mW. The efficient conversion in OMICs enables microwave-optical transduction for many applications in quantum information processing and microwave photonics.

Lithium niobate (LiNbO$_3$, LN) is a ferroelectric crystal of interest for integrated photonics owing to its large second-order optical nonlinearity and the ability to impart periodic poling via an external electric field. However, on-chip device performance based on thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) is presently limited by optical loss arising from corrugations between poled regions and sidewall surface roughness. Atomic layer etching (ALE) could potentially smooth these features and thereby increase photonic performance, but no ALE process has been reported for LN. Here, we report a directional ALE process for $x$-cut MgO-doped LN using sequential exposures of H$_2$ and SF$_6$/Ar plasmas. We observe etch rates up to $1.01 \pm 0.05$ nm/cycle with a synergy of $94$%. We also demonstrate ALE can be achieved with SF$_6$/O$_2$ or Cl$_2$/BCl$_3$ plasma exposures in place of the SF$_6$/Ar plasma step with synergies above $90$%. When combined with a wet post-process to remove redeposited compounds, the process yields a 50% decrease in surface roughness. With additional optimization to reduce the quantity of redeposited compounds, these processes could be used to smoothen surfaces of TFLN waveguides etched by physical Ar$^+$ milling, thereby increasing the performance of TFLN nanophotonic devices or enabling new integrated photonic capabilities.

The compact size, scalability, and strongly confined fields in integrated photonic devices enable new functionalities in photonic networking and information processing, both classical and quantum. Gallium phosphide (GaP) is a promising material for active integrated photonics due to its high refractive index, wide band gap, strong nonlinear properties, and large acousto-optic figure of merit. In this work we demonstrate that silicon-lattice-matched boron-doped GaP (BGaP), grown at the 12-inch wafer scale, provides similar functionalities as GaP. BGaP optical resonators exhibit intrinsic quality factors exceeding 25,000 and 200,000 at visible and telecom wavelengths respectively. We further demonstrate the electromechanical generation of low-loss acoustic waves and an integrated acousto-optic (AO) modulator. High-resolution spatial and compositional map**, combined with ab initio calculations indicate two candidates for the excess optical loss in the visible band: the silicon-GaP interface and boron dimers. These results demonstrate the promise of the BGaP material platform for the development of scalable AO technologies at telecom and provide potential pathways toward higher performance at shorter wavelengths.

The algorithm for Monte Carlo simulation of parton-level events based on an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) proposed in arXiv:1810.11509 is used to perform a simulation of $H\to 4\ell$ decay. Improvements in the training algorithm have been implemented to avoid numerical instabilities. The integrated decay width evaluated by the ANN is within 0.7% of the true value and unweighting efficiency of 26% is reached. While the ANN is not automatically bijective between input and output spaces, which can lead to issues with simulation quality, we argue that the training procedure naturally prefers bijective maps, and demonstrate that the trained ANN is bijective to a very good approximation.

In order to more accurately predict the pedestrian flow and understand the interactive relationship between tourist space and pedestrians, this paper uses spatial syntax and neural network methods to construct an evaluation model of tourist road congestion. This model makes full use of the advantages of neural network method and spatial syntax. For example, neural network method can objectively and dynamically assign the weight of attractions, and it can estimate the weight of other attractions through training. Analysis, we can clearly understand the connection relationship between roads; then we use mathematical formulas to effectively combine the road network structure and landscape attractions, which can correspond to the street network structure, the distribution of attractions and pedestrian movement The ability to estimate road congestion in low and inconsistent situations. We experimented with Gulangyu Island in Xiamen. As a result, we found that 1.the attractions of Gulangyu Island are mainly located on the edge of the island, and the attraction of several attractions that sell tickets reaches above 0.9; 2.The topological model of spatial syntax can better predict the walking results of tourists in Gulangyu Island; 3.The road accessibility and the distribution of scenic spots in Gulangyu Island have no great spatial correlation, but the model can predict the degree of road congestion To bring it closer to the truth. The results of our research can be used as a basis for future tourism space management and can enrich the research of tourism space.

Compared to traditional pn-junction photovoltaics, hot carrier solar cells offer potentially higher efficiency by extracting work from the kinetic energy of photogenerated "hot carriers" before they cool to the lattice temperature. Hot carrier solar cells have been demonstrated in high-bandgap ferroelectric insulators and GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructures, but so far not in low-bandgap materials, where the potential efficiency gain is highest. Recently, a high open-circuit voltage was demonstrated in an illuminated wurtzite InAs nanowire with a low bandgap of 0.39 eV, and was interpreted in terms of a photothermoelectric effect. Here, we point out that this device is a hot carrier solar cell and discuss its performance in those terms. In the demonstrated devices, InP heterostructures are used as energy filters in order to thermoelectrically harvest the energy of hot electrons photogenerated in InAs absorber segments. The obtained photovoltage depends on the heterostructure design of the energy filter and is therefore tunable. By using a high-resistance, thermionic barrier an open-circuit voltage is obtained that is in excess of the Shockley-Queisser limit. These results provide generalizable insight into how to realize high voltage hot carrier solar cells in low-bandgap materials, and therefore are a step towards the demonstration of higher efficiency hot carrier solar cells.

We analyze a recently proposed temporal centrality measure applied to an empirical network based on person-to-person contacts in an emergency department of a busy urban hospital. We show that temporal centrality identifies a distinct set of top-spreaders than centrality based on the time-aggregated binarized contact matrix, so that taken together, the accuracy of capturing top-spreaders improves significantly. However, with respect to predicting epidemic outcome, the temporal measure does not necessarily outperform less complex measures. Our results also show that other temporal markers such as duration observed and the time of first appearance in the the network can be used in a simple predictive model to generate predictions that capture the trend of the observed data remarkably well.

We analyze the existence, stability, and mobility of gap solitons in a periodic photonic structure with nonlocal nonlinearity. Within the Bragg region of band gaps, gap solitons exhibit better stability and higher mobility due to the combinations of non-locality effect and the oscillation nature of Bloch waves. Using linear stability analysis and calculating the Peierls-Nabarro potentials, we demonstrate that gap solitons can revive a non-trivial elastic-like collision even in the periodic systems with the help of nonlocal nonlinearity. Such interesting behaviors of gap solitons in nonlocal nonlinear photonic crystals are believed to be useful in optical switching devices.

We investigated the critical dynamics on the daily Taiwan stock exchange index (TSE) from 1971 to 2005, and the 5-min intraday data from 1996 to 2005. A global persistence exponent $θ_{p}$ was defined for non-equilibrium critical phenomena \cite{Janssen,Majumdar}, and describing dynamic behavior in an economic index \cite{Zheng}.
In recent numerical analysis studies of literatures, it is illustrated that the persistence probability has a universal scaling form $P(t) \sim t^{-θ_{p}}$ \cite{Zheng1}. In this work, we analyzed persistence properties of universal scaling behavior on Taiwan financial market, and also calculated the global persistence exponent $θ_{p}$. We found our analytical results in good agreement with the same universality.
