High Fidelity Artificial Quantum Thermal State Generation using Encoded Coherent States
Abstract: Quantum steganography is a powerful method for information security where communications between a sender and receiver are disguised as naturally occurring noise in a channel. We encoded the phase and amplitude of weak coherent laser states such that a third party monitoring the communications channel, measuring the flow of optical states through the channel, would see an amalgamation of states in… ▽ More

Achieving a quantum smart workforce
Abstract: Interest in building dedicated Quantum Information Science and Engineering (QISE) education programs has greatly expanded in recent years. These programs are inherently convergent, complex, often resource intensive and likely require collaboration with a broad variety of stakeholders. In order to address this combination of challenges, we have captured ideas from many members in the community. Thi… ▽ More

Quantum jumps as decoherent histories
Abstract: Quantum open systems are described in the Markovian limit by master equations in Lindblad form. I argue that common ``quantum jumps'' techniques, which solve the master equation by unraveling its evolution into stochastic trajectories in Hilbert space, correspond closely to a particular set of decoherent histories. This is illustrated by a simple model of a photon counting experiment.

Quantum State Diffusion and Time Correlation Functions
Abstract: In computing the spectra of quantum mechanical systems one encounters the Fourier transforms of time correlation functions, as given by the quantum regression theorem for systems described by master equations. Quantum state diffusion (QSD) gives a useful method of solving these problems by unraveling the master equation into stochastic trajectories; but there is no generally accepted definition… ▽ More

Quantum state diffusion with a moving basis: computing quantum-optical spectra
Abstract: Quantum state diffusion (QSD) as a tool to solve quantum-optical master equations by stochastic simulation can be made several orders of magnitude more efficient if states in Hilbert space are represented in a moving basis of excited coherent states. The large savings in computer memory and time are due to the localization property of the QSD equation. We show how the method can be used to compu… ▽ More
