Coupling between waveguides and microresonators: the local approach
Abstract: Coupling between optical microresonators and waveguides is a critical characteristic of resonant photonic devices with complex behavior that is not well understood. When the characteristic variation length of the microresonator modes is much larger than the waveguide width, local coupling parameters emerge that are independent of the resonator mode distributions and offer a simplified description… ▽ More

Polarization diversity phase modulator for measuring frequency-bin entanglement of a biphoton frequency comb in a depolarized channel
Abstract: Phase modulation has emerged as a technique to create and manipulate high-dimensional frequency-bin entanglement. A necessary step to extending this technique to depolarized channels, such as those in a quantum networking environment, is the ability to perform phase modulation independent of photon polarization. This also necessary to harness hypertanglement in the polarization and frequency degre… ▽ More

Discovery of Parabolic Microresonators Produced via Fiber Tapering
Abstract: We demonstrate a new method for creation of surface nanoscale axial photonics (SNAP) microresonators with harmonic profiles via fiber tapering in a laser-heated microfurnace. The simple procedure makes microresonators that support hundreds of axial modes with good spacing uniformity, yielding a promising prospective method for fabricating miniature frequency comb generators and dispersionless dela… ▽ More

Coincidence Rates for Photon Pairs in WDM Environment
Abstract: We demonstrate the flexibility that a wavelength selective switch could offer to bandwidth provisioning of potential multi-user quantum key distribution networks based on entangled pair sources. We derive an analytical expression relating the coincidence detection rates of the photon pairs to the switch bandwidth characteristics. Experimentally measured coincidence rates verify the theory in three… ▽ More

Method for characterizing single photon detectors in saturation regime by cw laser
Abstract: We derive an analytical expression for the count probability of a single photon detector for a wide range of input optical power that includes afterpulsing effects. We confirm the validity of the expression by fitting it to the data obtained from a saturated commercial Single Photon Detector by illuminating it with a cw laser. Detector efficiency and afterpulsing probability extracted from the fit… ▽ More
