The Spin Physics Detector collaboration proposes to install a universal detector in the second interaction point of the NICA collider under construction (JINR, Dubna) to study the spin structure of the proton and deuteron and other spin-related phenomena using a unique possibility to operate with polarized proton and deuteron beams at a collision energy up to 27 GeV and a luminosity up to $10^{32}$ cm$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$. As the main goal, the experiment aims to provide access to the gluon TMD PDFs in the proton and deuteron, as well as the gluon transversity distribution and tensor PDFs in the deuteron, via the measurement of specific single and double spin asymmetries using different complementary probes such as charmonia, open charm, and prompt photon production processes. Other polarized and unpolarized physics is possible, especially at the first stage of NICA operation with reduced luminosity and collision energy of the proton and ion beams. This document is dedicated exclusively to technical issues of the SPD setup construction.

Chiral light sources realized in ultracompact device platforms are highly desirable for various applications. Among active media employed for thin-film emission devices, lead-halide perovskites have been extensively studied for photoluminescence due to their exceptional properties. However, up to date, there have been no demonstrations of chiral electroluminescence with a substantial degree of circular polarization (DCP), being critical for the development of practical devices. Here, we propose a new concept of chiral light sources based on a thin-film perovskite metacavity and experimentally demonstrate chiral electroluminescence with DCP approaching 0.38. We design a metacavity created by a metal and a dielectric metasurface supporting photonic eigenstates with close-to-maximum chiral response. Chiral cavity modes facilitate asymmetric electroluminescence of pairs of left and right circularly polarized waves propagating in the opposite oblique directions. The proposed ultracompact light sources are especially advantageous for many applications requiring chiral light beams of both helicities.

Transitions between metastable equilibria in the low-temperature phase of dynamical Ising game with activity spillover are studied in the infinite time limit. It is shown that exponential enhancement due to activity spillover, which takes place in finite-time transitions, is absent in the infinite time limit. In order to demonstrate that, the analytical description for infinite time trajectory is developed. An analytical approach to estimate the probability of transition between metastable equilibria in the infinite time limit is introduced and its results are compared with those of kinetic Monte Carlo simulation. Our study sheds light on the dynamics of the Ising game and has implications for the understanding of transitions between metastable states in complex systems.

The realization of lossless metasurfaces with true chirality crucially requires the fabrication of three-dimensional structures, constraining their feasibility for experiments and hampering practical implementations. Even though the three-dimensional assembly of metallic nanostructures has been demonstrated previously, the resulting plasmonic resonances suffer from high intrinsic and radiative losses. The concept of photonic bound states in the continuum (BICs) is instrumental for tailoring radiative losses in diverse geometries, especially when implemented using lossless dielectrics, but applications have so far been limited to planar and intrinsically achiral structures. Here, we introduce a novel nanofabrication approach to unlock the height of generally flat all-dielectric metasurfaces as an accessible parameter for efficient resonance and functionality control. In particular, we realize out-of-plane symmetry breaking in quasi-BIC metasurfaces and leverage this design degree of freedom to demonstrate, for the first time, an optical all-dielectric quasi-BIC metasurface with maximum intrinsic chirality that responds selectively to light of a particular circular polarization depending on the structural handedness. Our experimental results not only open a new paradigm for all-dielectric BICs and chiral nanophotonics but also promise advances in the realization of efficient generation of optical angular momentum, holographic metasurfaces, and parity-time symmetry-broken optical systems.

In this paper, we present the analytical theory of attosecond pulse formation via optical modulation of an active medium of the hydrogen-like C5+ plasma-based X-ray laser at 3.4 nm wavelength in the "water window" range, taking into account a variation of the population inversion caused by radiative decay of the upper lasing states. We derive an analytical solution for the X-ray field amplified by an X-ray laser with time-dependent population inversion, which is simultaneously irradiated by a strong optical laser field, and use it to find the optimal conditions for the attosecond pulse formation from a narrowband seeding X-ray field. We show that the shape of pulses can be improved at the cost of reduced pulse peak intensity (i) via external attenuation of the resonant spectral component of the amplified X-ray field or (ii) by using a resonantly absorbing medium (the active medium of the X-ray laser after the change of sign of the population inversion) for the pulse formation. The results of the analytical theory are in a good agreement with the numerical solutions of the Maxwell-Bloch equations which account for the nonlinearity, as well as the amplified spontaneous emission, of the active medium. Both analytically and numerically we show the possibility to produce a train of attosecond pulses with sub-200 as duration and the peak intensity exceeding 10^12 W/cm^2 at the carrier wavelength 3.4 nm in the "water window" range, which makes them attractive for the biological and medical applications.

Using the formalism of master equations we show that both relaxation and interequilibria transitions at finite time are accelerated by the effects of activity spillover.

We derive the analytical theory describing the process of sub-femtosecond pulse formation from a quasi-monochromatic seeding extreme ultraviolet (XUV) radiation, which propagates in active medium of a hydrogen-like plasma-based X-ray laser dressed by a strong infrared laser field. We discuss the ultimate capabilities and limitations of this process on the basis of the derived analytical solution and extensive numerical studies for the case of Li2+ plasma-based X-ray laser with a carrier wavelength 13.5nm. We analyze the role of plasma dispersion and find the optimal conditions for the formation of attosecond pulses with the highest contrast. Under the optimal conditions, the influence of amplified spontaneous emission from the active medium is negligible. The peak intensity of the produced XUV pulses can exceed 10^10-10^11 W/cm^2, while the duration of pulses varies in the range of 400-600 as.

We optimize optical performance of metasurfaces based on periodically corrugated silicon layers by adjusting the Fourier coefficients of their surface profile. For smooth corrugations, we demonstrate an excellent quantitative accuracy of semi-analytical approach based on the Rayleigh hypothesis. We employ the approach to design metasurfaces with anomalous refraction due to dominant first order diffraction. Unlike conventional Huygens' dielectric metasurfaces, corrugated silicon layers are capable of efficient anomalous refraction in grazing directions: we obtain corrugation shapes allowing to deflect 70-80% of the energy of normally incident green light into the range of 68°-85° of angles with respect to the normal.

We propose an experimental implementation of the suggested technique in active medium of C5+ ions at wavelength 3.4 nm in the "water window" range and show the possibility to amplify by two orders of magnitude a train of attosecond pulses with pulse duration down to 100 as. We show theoretically and experimentally that a quantum cascade laser (QCL) in an external Fabry-Perot cavity (EC) can produce regular self-pulsations (SP) of the output intensity at frequencies ~75 GHz. We recognize that the propagation delay in EC provides QCL with a "memory" mechanism to preserve the regularity and coherence of the pulse train on the intervals significantly exceeding the sub-picosecond gain coherence and gain recovery times. These results may point to novel practical approaches for producing regular time-domain SPs and pulse trains in the Mid-IR QCLs. Otherwise, due to a multimode Risken-Nummedal-Graham-Haken (RNGH) instability, free-running FP QCLs exhibit SPs at Rabi flop** frequencies in the THz range, which in addition, reveal a quasi-periodic chaotic behavior if the cavity round trip time is a few picoseconds or more.

We report on experimental observation of low-threshold Risken-Nummedal-Graham-Haken (RNGH) instability in mid-infrared InGaAs/InAlAs Quantum Cascade Lasers (QCLs) operating at 8 $μ$m wavelength. The devices employ sequential resonant tunneling and can provide optical gain on the diagonal or vertical transition. Depending on the tunneling resonance detuning, the lasers can operate either on a stable part of I-V curve or with unstable electric field domain formation. We report how all these features impact the occurrence of the RNGH instability with broadband multimode emission, and show how they can be tailored with an applied bias or via optical excitation of free carriers. We present the results of 2nd order interferometric autocorrelation measurements and time-resolved spectral measurements in free-running QCLs and QCLs subjected to optical pum**. An efficient technique to produce a periodic sequence of ultrashort pulses of recoilless gamma-radiation via its transmission through the optically thick vibrating resonant absorber was demonstrated recently [Nature, 508, 80 (2014)]. In this work we extend the theoretical analysis to the case of a set of multiple absorbers. We consider an analytical model describing the control of spectral content of a frequency modulated gamma-radiation by selective correction of amplitudes and initial phases of some spectral components, using, respectively, the resonant absorption or dispersion of nuclei. On the basis of the analytical solutions we determine the ultimate possibilities of the proposed technique.
