We present an integral density method for calculating the multifractal dimension spectrum for the nucleon distribution in atomic nuclei. This method is then applied to analyze the non-uniformity of the density distribution in several typical types of nuclear matter distributions, including the Woods-Saxon distribution, the halo structure and the tetrahedral $α$ clustering. The subsequent discussion provides a comprehensive and detailed exploration of the results obtained. The multifractal dimension spectrum shows remarkable sensitivity to the density distribution, establishing it as an effective tool for studying the distribution of nucleons in nuclear multibody systems.

Similar to other nuclei ($^{212}$Po, $^{104}$Ti, etc.) with a quartet on top of a double-magic core nucleus, significant $α$-like correlations are expected. Correlations in the ground state of $^{20}$Ne are investigated using different approaches. The quartetting wave function approach (QWFA) predicts a large $α$-like cluster contribution near the surface of the nuclei. The Tohsaki-Horiuchi-Schuck-Röpke (THSR) approach describes $α$-like clustering in nuclear systems. The results of the QWFA in the Thomas-Fermi and shell-model approximation are compared with THSR calculations for the container model. Results for the $α$ formation probability and the rms radii are shown.

The Diffuse Supernova Neutrino Background (DSNB) -- a probe of the core-collapse mechanism and the cosmic star-formation history -- has not been detected, but its discovery may be imminent. A significant obstacle for DSNB detection in Super-Kamiokande (Super-K) is detector backgrounds, especially due to atmospheric neutrinos (more precisely, these are foregrounds), which are not sufficiently understood. We perform the first detailed theoretical calculations of these foregrounds in the range 16--90 MeV in detected electron energy, taking into account several physical and detector effects, quantifying uncertainties, and comparing our predictions to the 15.9 livetime years of pre-gadolinium data from Super-K stages I--IV. We show that our modeling reasonably reproduces this low-energy data as well as the usual high-energy atmospheric-neutrino data. To accelerate progress on detecting the DSNB, we outline key actions to be taken in future theoretical and experimental work. In a forthcoming paper, we use our modeling to detail how low-energy atmospheric-neutrino events register in Super-K and suggest new cuts to reduce their impact.

We propose to use a basis function constructed based on the microscopic cluster model for an efficient description of multi-cluster systems with the orthogonality condition originating from the Pauli principle. The basis function is expressed analytically by a superposition of correlated Gaussian functions. We demonstrate the power of this approach by taking an example of a $3α$ system, $^{12}$C. A comparison with the conventional pseudopotential method using the projection operator is made. The present method offers efficient and numerically stable computations as the number of basis functions is significantly reduced compared to the conventional method. We show that the present basis function includes reasonably small components of the Pauli-forbidden states, allowing us to discuss simply the structure of the first excited $0^+$ state, Hoyle state.

We present FMNLO, a framework to combine general-purpose Monte Carlo generators and fragmentation functions (FFs). It is based on a hybrid scheme of phase-space slicing method and local subtraction method, and accurate to next-to-leading order (NLO) in QCD. The new framework has been interfaced to MG5 aMC@NLO and made publicly available in this work. We demonstrate its unique ability by giving theoretical predictions of various fragmentation measurements at the LHC, followed by comparison with the data. With the help of interpolation techniques, FMNLO allows for fast calculation of fragmentation processes for a large number of different FFs, which makes it a promising tool for future fits of FFs. As an example, we perform a NLO fit of parton fragmentation functions to unidentified charged hadrons using measurements at the LHC. We find the ATLAS data from inclusive dijet production show a strong constraining power. Notable disparities are found between our gluon FF and that of BKK, DSS and NNFF, indicating the necessities of additional constraints and data for gluon fragmentation function.

In this work, we complete our CT18qed study with the neutron's photon parton distribution function (PDF), which is essential for the nucleus scattering phenomenology. Two methods, CT18lux and CT18qed, based on the LUXqed formalism and the DGLAP evolution, respectively, to determine the neutron's photon PDF have been presented. Various low-$Q^2$ non-perturbative variations have been carefully examined, which are treated as additional uncertainties on top of those induced by quark and gluon PDFs. The impacts of the momentum sum rule as well as isospin symmetry violation have been explored, and turn out to be negligible. A detailed comparison with other neutron's photon PDF sets has been performed, which shows a great improvement in the precision and a reasonable uncertainty estimation in our results. Finally, two phenomenological implications are demonstrated with photon-initiated processes: neutrino-nucleus $W$-boson production, which is important for the near-future TeV--PeV neutrino observations, and the axion-like particle production at a high-energy muon beam-dump experiment.

The interplay between the formation of neutron skin and alpha cluster at the dilute surface of neutron-rich nuclei is one of the interesting subjects in the study of neutron-rich nuclei and nuclear clustering. A theoretical model has predicted that the growth of neutron skin will prevent the alpha clustering at the nuclear surface. Quite recently, this theoretical perspective; the suppression of alpha clustering by the neutron-skin formation was first confirmed experimentally in Sn isotopes as the reduction of the (p, p alpha) reaction cross-section. Motivated by the novel discovery, in this work, we have investigated the relationship between the neutron-skin thickness and alpha clustering in C isotopes. Based on the analysis by the antisymmetrized molecular dynamics, we show that the alpha spectroscopic factor at nuclear exterior decreases in neutron-rich C isotopes, and the clustering suppression looks correlated with the growth of the neutron-skin thickness.

The neutronic properties of Molten Salt Reactor are different from that of traditional solid-fuel reactors due to its nuclear fuel particularity. Based upon MCNP code, the influence of the size and shape of fuel salt channel on neutron physics of MSR cell was studied systematically in this work. The results show that the infinite multiplication factors increases first and then decreases with the change of graphite cell size under the condition of given fuel volume fraction. In the case of the same FVF and average chord length, when the average chord length is relatively small, the k values with different fuel salt channel shapes are in good agreement; when the average chord length is relatively large, the k values with different fuel salt channel shapes are greatly different. In addition, some examples of practical application of this work are illustrated in the end, including cell selection for the core and thermal expansion displacement analysis of the cell.

Method : We have applied the real-time evolution method to 13C. By using the equation-of-motion of clusters, the model describes the 3alpha+n system without any assumption of symmetry. Results : REM described the low-lying states more accurately than the previous cluster model studies. The analysis of the wave functions showed that the ground band has approximate triangular symmetry, while the excited bands deviate from it. Conclusion : This work confirmed that the ground band has the intrinsic structure with the triangular arrangement of three alpha particles.

The $α$-cluster formation and decay probabilities are obtained by solving the bound-state of the c.o.m. motion of the quartet and the scattering state of the formed $α$-cluster in the Gurvitz approach. Striking shell effects on the $α$-cluster formation probabilities are analyzed for magic numbers 50, 82 and 126. The physics of neutrino-nucleus cross sections is a critical probe of the Standard Model and beyond. A precise understanding is also needed to accurately deduce astrophysical neutrino spectra. At energies above $\sim 5$ GeV, the cross section is dominated by deep inelastic scattering, mediated by weak bosons. In addition, there are subdominant processes where the hadronic coupling is through virtual photons, $γ^\ast$: (on-shell) $W$-boson production (e.g., where the underlying interaction is $ν_\ell + γ^\ast \rightarrow \ell^- + W^+$) and trident production (e.g., where it is $ν+ γ^\ast \rightarrow ν+ \ell_1^- + \ell_2^+$). These processes become increasingly relevant at TeV--PeV energies. We undertake the first systematic approach to these processes (and those with hadronic couplings through virtual $W$ and $Z$ bosons), treating them together, avoiding common approximations, considering all neutrino flavors and final states, and covering the energy range $10\,$--$10^8$ GeV. In particular, we present the first complete calculation of $W$-boson production and the first calculation of trident production at TeV--PeV energies. When we use the same assumptions as in prior work, we recover all of their major results. In a companion paper, we show that these processes should be taken into account for IceCube-Gen2.

We explain various facets of the THSR (Tohsaki-Horiuchi-Schuck-Röpke) wave function. We first discuss the THSR wave function as a wave function of cluster-gas state, since the THSR wave function was originally introduced to elucidate the 3$α$-condensate-like character of the Hoyle state ($0_2^+$ state) of $^{12}$C. We briefly review the cluster-model studies of the Hoyle state in 1970's in order to explain how there emerged the idea to assign the $α$ condensate character to the Hoyle state. We then explain that the THSR wave function can describe very well also non-gaslike ordinary cluster states with spatial localization of clusters. This fact means that the dynamical motion of clusters is of nonlocalized nature just as in gas-like states of clusters and the localization of clusters is due to the inter-cluster Pauli principle which is against the close approach of two clusters. The nonlocalized cluster dynamics is formulated by the container model of cluster dynamics. The container model describes gas-like state and non-gaslike states as the solutions of the Hill-Wheeler equation with respect to the size parameter of THSR wave function which is just the size parameter of the container. When we notice that fact that the THSR wave function with the smallest value of size parameter is equivalent to the shell-model wave function, we see that the container model describes the evolution of cluster structure from the ground state with shell-model structure up to the gas-like cluster state via ordinary non-gaslike cluster states. For the description of various cluster structure, more generation of THSR wave function have been introduced and we review some typical examples with their actual applications.

The first $3^-$ and $4^-$ states of $^{12}$C are studied in the present container model, in which the shift parameter is introduced to break the parity symmetry for projecting out the negative-parity states. Taking the limit as the shift parameter approaches zero and by variational calculations for one-deformed size parameter, the local energy minima are obtained for the $3^-$ and $4^-$ states. It is found that the obtained single THSR (Tohsaki-Horiuchi-Schuck-Röpke) wave functions for $3^-$ and $4^-$ states are 96% and 92% equivalent to the corresponding GCM wave functions, respectively. The calculated intrinsic densities further show that these negative-parity states of three clusters, different with the traditional understanding of rigid triangle structure, are found to have nonlocalized clustering structure in the two-dimensional container picture.

With this new wave function, we investigate the abnormal deuteron-like pn-pairing effect in 10B with T=0 and S=1 (isoscalar) by comparing with isovector NN pairs (T=1, S=1) in 10Be and 10C. Energies are calculated for the ground states of 10Be, 10B and 10C nuclei, and the 1+ excited state of 10B. Further more, overlaps between the total wave function and the pairing component indicate that the NN pairing effect is more visible in 10B than in 10Be and 10C. By analyzing the energies and the overlaps between wave function components, we observe two different mechanisms enhancing the formation of deuteron-like pairs in 10B. The phase transition of nuclei to increasing angular momentum (or spin) and excitation energy is one of the most fundamental topics of nuclear structure research. The odd-N nuclei with A equal 160 are widely considered belonging to the well-deformed region, and their excitation spectra are energetically favored to exhibit the rotational characteristics. In the present work, however, there is evidence indicating that the nuclei can evolve from rotation to vibration along the yrast lines while increasing spin. The simple method, named as E-Gamma Over Spin (E-GOS) curves, would be used to discern the evolution from rotational to vibrational structure in nuclei as a function of spin. In addition, in order to get the insight into the rotational-like properties of nuclei, theoretical calculations have been performed for the yrast bands of the odd-A rare-earth nuclei using the total Routhian surfaces (TRS) model. The TRS plots indicate that the 165Yb and 157Dy isotopes have stable prolate shapes at low spin states. At higher rotational frequency (larger than 0.50 MeV), a distinct decrease in the quadrupole deformation is predicted by the calculations, and the isotopes becomes rigid in the gamma deformation.

In order to study the correlation between clusters and nucleons in light nuclei, we formulate a new superposed THSR wave function which describes both spatial large spreading and cluster-correlated dynamics of valence nucleons. By using the new THSR wave function, the binding energy of 9B is essentially improved comparing with our previous studies. We calculate the excited states of 9B and obtain the energy spectrum of 9B which is consistent with the experimental results, including prediction of the 1/2+ excited state of 9B which is not fixed yet experimentally. We study the proton dynamics in 9B and find that the cluster-proton correlation plays an essential role for the proton dynamics in the ground state of 9B. Further more, we discuss the density distribution of the valence proton with special attention to its tail structure. Finally, the resonance nature of excited states of 9B is illustrated by comparing root-mean-square radii between the ground and excited states.

A new trial wave function is proposed for nuclear physics, in which an exact solution to the long-standing center-of-mass problem is given. In the new approach, the widths of the single-nucleon Gaussian wave packets and the widths of the relative Gaussian wave functions describing correlations of nucleons or clusters are treated as variables in the explicit intrinsic wave function of the nuclear system. As an example, this new wave function was applied to study the typical ${^{20}{\rm Ne}}$ ($α$+${^{16}{\rm O}}$) cluster system. By removing exactly the spurious center-of-mass effect in a very simple way, the energy curve of ${^{20}{\rm Ne}}$ was obtained by the variational calculations with the width of $α$ cluster, the width of ${^{16}{\rm O}}$ cluster, and the size parameter of the nucleus. They are considered as the three crucial variational variables in describing the ${^{20}{\rm Ne}}$ ($α$+${^{16}{\rm O}}$) cluster system. This shows that the new wave function can be a very interesting new tool for studying many-body and cluster effects in nuclear physics.

The 2$α+t$ cluster structure in $^{11}$B is investigated by the microscopic generator coordinate method (GCM) with the Brink cluster wave functions. With a proper choice of the parameters of the effective interaction, the calculated energy spectrum shows reasonable agreement with the observed low-lying spectra of both parities. On the basis of the calculated radii, monopole and $B(E2)$ transition strengths, several developed cluster states of $^{11}$B are suggested. For the negative-parity states, in addition to the well-known $3/2_3^-$ cluster state, the $1/2_2^-$ and $5/2_3^-$ states are also proposed as the well-developed cluster states. For the positive-parity states, it is found that many states around the 2$α+t$ threshold show the feature of developed clusters. In particular, the $1/2_2^+$ state is found to have a linear-chain-like structure, which is consistent with the previous antisymmetrized molecular dynamics calculation, but contradicts to the orthogonality condition model calculation. It is also found that many of these positive-parity cluster candidates have the non-negligible isoscalar dipole transition strengths, which require the experimental confirmation.

It is of interest for the $α$ preformation to calculate the $α$ decay of heavy nuclei such as $^{212}$Po, but also in light nuclei (e.g., $^{20}$Ne) which shows strong signatures of quartetting. We analyze the intrinsic structure of the $α$-like cluster and the center of mass motion of the quartet, in particular the role of Pauli blocking. The Thomas-Fermi model for the (daughter) core nucleus is improved introducing quasiparticle nucleon states. Calculations performed for harmonic oscillator basis states show that the effective potential for the quartet center of mass motion remains nearly constant within the core nucleus. The relation to the THSR (Tohsaki-Horiuchi-Schuck-Röpke) approach is discussed.

We present a microscopic calculation of alpha-cluster formation in heavy nuclei by using the quartetting wave function approach. The interaction of the quartet with the core nucleus is taken in local density approximation. The alpha-cluster formation is found to be particularly sensitive to the interplay of the mean field felt by the alpha-cluster and the Pauli blocking as a consequence of antisymmetrization. The striking feature of alpha-cluster formation probability across the major shell closures of 82 protons and 126 neutrons is reproduced. The shell (or subshell) effects on the alpha-cluster formation in superheavy nuclei are also analyzed.

This paper gives general intrinsic theory of general large $N_{c}$ QCD, SU(3) QCD, SU(2) hadron-dynamics and U(1) QED gauge field theories in general field theory and progress towards solving the nucleon spin crisis, i.e., presents general large $N_{c}$ QCD's inner structures, gauge invariant angular momenta and new corresponding Coulomb theorem in quark-gluon field interaction systems based on general field theory, and naturally deduces the gauge invariant spin and orbital angular momentum operators of quark and gauge fields with $SU(N_{c})$ gauge symmetry by Noether theorem in general field theory. In the general large $N_{c}$ QCD, we discover not only the general covariant transverse and parallel conditions ( namely, non-Abelian divergence and curl ), but also that this general system has good intrinsic symmetry characteristics. Specially, this paper's generally decomposing gauge potential theory presents a new technique, it should play a votal role in future physics research. Therefore, this paper breakthroughs the some huge difficulties in the nucleon spin crisis and opens a door of researching on lots of strong interacting systems with different symmetric properties, which is popularly interesting, and keeps both the gauge invariance and their angular momentum commutation relations so that their theories are consistent. Especially, the achieved results here can be utilized to calculate the general QCD strong interactions and to give the precise predictions that can be exactly measured by current particle physics experiments due to their gauge invariant properties etc.

Firstly, a GCM (generator coordinate method) calculation is performed by superposing optimized 2$α$+$α$ THSR (Tohsaki-Horiuchi-Schuck-Röpke) wave functions with the radius-constraint method. The obtained two excited $0^+$ states above the Hoyle state are consistent with the recently observed states by experiment. Secondly, a variational calculation using the single 2$α$+$α$ THSR wave function orthogonalized to the ground and Hoyle states is made and it also supports the existence of the $0_3^+$ state obtained by the GCM calculation. The analysis of the obtained $0_3^+$ state is made by studying its 2$α$-$α$ reduced width amplitude, its 2$α$ correlation function, and the large monopole matrix element between this state and the Hoyle state, which shows that this $0_3^+$ state is a breathing-like excited state of the Hoyle state. This character of the $0_3^+$ state is very different from the $0_4^+$ state which seems to have a bent-arm 3$α$ structure.

As an example, we consider $^{212}$Po with the $α$ on top of the $^{208}$ Pb core. We will consider the core nucleus infinitely heavy, so that the $α$ particle moves with respect to a fixed center, i.e., recoil effects are neglected. The fully quantal solution of the problem is discussed. The approach is inspired by the THSR (Tohsaki-Horiuchi-Schuck-Röpke) wave function concept that has been successfully applied to light nuclei. Shell model calculations are improved by including four-particle ($α$-like) correlations that are of relevance when the matter density becomes low. In the region where the $α$-like cluster penetrates the core nucleus, the intrinsic bound state wave function transforms at a critical density into an unbound four-nucleon shell model state. Exploratory calculations for $^{212}$Po are presented. Such preformed cluster states are only hardly described by shell model calculations. Reasons for different physics behavior of an $α$-like cluster with respect to a deuteron-like cluster are discussed.

New concept of clustering is discussed in $Λ$ hypernuclei using a new-type microscopic cluster model wave function, which has a structure that constituent clusters are confined in a container, whose size is a variational parameter and which we refer to as Hyper-Tohsaki-Horiuchi-Schuck-Röpke (Hyper-THSR) wave function. By using the Hyper-THSR wave function, $2α+ Λ$ cluster structure in ${^{9}_Λ{\rm Be}}$ is investigated. We show that full microscopic solutions in the $2α+ Λ$ cluster system, which are given as $2α+ Λ$ Brink-GCM wave functions, are almost perfectly reproduced by the single configurations of the Hyper-THSR wave function. The squared overlaps between the both wave functions are calculated to be $99.5$%, $99.4$%, and $97.7$% for $J^π=0^+$, $2^+$, and $4^+$ states, respectively. We also simulate the structural change by adding the $Λ$ particle, by varying the $ΛN$ interaction artificially. As the increase of the $ΛN$ interaction, the $Λ$ particle gets to move more deeply inside the core and invokes strongly the spatial core shrinkage, and accordingly distinct localized $2α$ clusters appear in the nucleonic intrinsic density, though in ${^{8}{\rm Be}}$ rather gaslike $2α$-cluster structure is shown. The origin of the localization is associated with the strong effect of Pauli principle. We conclude that the container picture of the $2α$ and $Λ$ clusters is essential in understanding the cluster structure in ${^{9}_Λ{\rm Be}}$, in which the very compact spatial localization of clusters is shown in the density distribution.

A container picture is proposed for understanding cluster dynamics where the clusters make nonlocalized motion occupying the lowest orbit of the cluster mean-field potential characterized by the size parameter $``B"$ in the THSR (Tohsaki-Horiuchi-Schuck-Röpke) wave function. The nonlocalized cluster aspects of the inversion-doublet bands in $^{20}$Ne which have been considered as a typical manifestation of localized clustering are discussed. So far unexplained puzzling features of the THSR wave function, namely that after angular-momentum projection for two cluster systems the prolate THSR wave function is almost 100$\%$ equivalent to an oblate THSR wave function is clarified. It is shown that the true intrinsic two-cluster THSR configuration is nonetheless prolate. The proposal of the container picture is based on the fact that typical cluster systems, 2$α$, 3$α$, and $α$+$^{16}$O, are all well described by a single THSR wave function. It will be shown for the case of linear-chain states with two and three $α$-clusters as well as for the $α$+$^{16}$O system that localization is entirely of kinematical origin, that is, due to the inter-cluster Pauli repulsion. It is concluded that this feature is general for nuclear cluster states.

In contrast with the traditional view on clusters as localized objects, especially in inversion doublets, we find that these {\it single} THSR wave functions, which are based on the concept of nonlocalized clustering, can well describe the $K^π=0_1^-$ band and the $K^π=0_1^+$ band. For instance, they have 99.98% and 99.87% squared overlaps for $1^-$ and $3^- $ states (99.29%, 98.79% and 97.75% for $0^+, 2^+$ and $4^+$ states), respectively, with the corresponding exact solution of the $α$+\oo\ resonating group method. These astounding results shed a completely new light on the physics of low energy nuclear cluster states in nuclei: The clusters are nonlocalized and move around in the whole nuclear volume, only avoiding mutual overlap due to the Pauli blocking effect.
