The model inputs play a key role in the performance of the Bayesian optimization approach. In this paper, we investigate the influence of the inputs on the improved predictions of phenomenological nuclear charge radius formulas using an approach combining those original formulas and the Bayesian neural network (BNN). We find that there is no improvement in predictions after the abnormal odd-even staggering effect of 181,183,185Hg is injected into the BNN, while the original phenomenological formulas themselves possess rich physical information or rigid constraints. It indicates the abundance and intensity of physical inputs affect the performance of the Bayesian optimization approach as well as the robustness of the BNN. We further demonstrate that, by ensuring that the number of neurons in the hidden layer is larger than the number of NN inputs, adding hidden layers into the BNN can significantly improve the predictions of nuclear charge radii formulas within the Bayesian optimization approach.

We revisit the dissociation of heavy quarkonia by thermal partons at the next-to-leading order (NLO, also known as inelastic parton scattering dissociation) in the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP). Utilizing the chromo-electric dipole coupling from QCD multipole expansion as an effective Hamiltonian, this has been conducted in the approach of second-order quantum mechanical perturbation theory, which allows us to systematically incorporate the bound state wave functions. Employing the quarkonium wave functions and binding energies obtained from an in-medium potential model, we then numerically evaluate the dissociation cross sections and rates for various charmonia and bottomonia, where the infrared and collinear divergences are regularized by the thermal masses of medium partons. We demonstrate that distinct from the leading order (LO, also known as gluo-dissociation) counterparts peaking at relatively low gluon energy and falling off thereafter, the NLO cross sections first grow and then nearly saturate as the incident parton energy increases, as a result of the outgoing parton carrying away the excess energy. The resulting NLO dissociation rates increase with temperature and take over from the LO counterparts toward high temperatures, similar to pertinent findings from previous studies. We also evaluate the in-medium second-order transition between different bound states, which may contribute to the total thermal decay widths of heavy quarkonia in the QGP.

The shape phase transition for certain isotope or isotone chains, associated with the quantum phase transition of finite nuclei, is an intriguing phenomenon in nuclear physics. A notable case is the Xe isotope chain, where the structure transits from a $γ$-soft rotor to a spherical vibrator, with the second-order shape phase transition occurring in the vicinity of $^{128-130}$Xe. In this letter, we focus on investigating the $γ$-soft deformation of $^{129}$Xe associated with the second-order shape phase transition by constructing novel correlators for ultra-relativistic $^{129}$Xe+$^{129}$Xe collisions. In particular, our iEBE-VISHNU model calculations show that the $v_2^2-[p_T]$ correlation $ρ_{2}$ and the mean transverse momentum fluctuation $Γ_{p_T}$, which were previously interpreted as the evidence for the rigid triaxial deformation of $^{129}$Xe, can also be well explained by the $γ$-soft deformation of $^{129}$Xe. We also propose two novel correlators $ρ_{4,2}$ and $ρ_{2,4}$, which carry non-trivial higher-order correlations and show unique capabilities to distinguish between the $γ$-soft and the rigid triaxial deformation of $^{129}$Xe in $^{129}$Xe+$^{129}$Xe collisions at the LHC. The present study also provides a novel way to explore the second-order shape phase transition of finite nuclei with ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions.

It has been traditionally hypothesized that the heavy quark (charm, $c$ and bottom, $b$) fragmentation is universal across different collision systems, based on the notion that hadronization as a soft process should occur at the characteristic non-perturbative QCD scale, $Λ_{QCD}$. However, this universality hypothesis has recently been challenged by the observation that the $c$- and $b$-baryon production relative to their meson counterparts in minimum bias proton-proton ($pp$) collisions at the LHC energies is significantly enhanced as compared to the electron-positron ($e^+e^-$) collisions. The conception of non-universality is unambiguously reinforced by the latest measurement of the charged-particle multiplicity dependence of the $b$-baryon-to-meson yield ratio, $Λ_b/B$, by the LHCb experiment in $\sqrt{s}=13$\,TeV $pp$ collisions at the LHC, evolving continuously from the saturation value in minimum bias $pp$ collisions toward the small value in $e^+e^-$ collisions as the system size gradually reduces. We address the multiplicity dependence of $b$-baryon production in the canonical statistical hadronization model with input $b$-hadron spectrum augmented with many hitherto unobserved states from quark model predictions. We demonstrate that the decreasing trend of the $Λ_b/B$ toward low multiplicities can be quantitatively understood from the canonical suppression on the yield of $Λ_b$, as caused by the requirement of strict conservation of baryon number in sufficiently small systems. We have therefore proposed a plausible scenario for understanding the origin of the non-universality of heavy quark fragmentation in elementary collisions.

However, the effects of the $α$ cluster on the soft hadron observables vary largely among different studies. In this paper, we explain the differences by the compactness of the $α$ cluster in oxygen, using iEBE-VISHNU hydrodynamic simulations with different initial state $α$ cluster configurations. We also find several observables, such as the intensive skewness of the $[p_{\rm T}]$ correlator $Γ_{p_{\rm T}}$, the harmonic flows $v_2\{2\}$, $v_2\{4\}$, $v_3\{2\}$, and the $v_n^2-δ[p_{\rm T}]$ correlations $ρ(v_{2}^{2}, [p_{\rm T}])$, $ρ(v_{3}^{2}, [p_{\rm T}])$ in $^{16}$O+$^{16}$O collisions are sensitive to the compactness of the $α$ cluster in the colliding nuclei, which can be used to constrain the configurations of $^{16}$O in the future. Our study serves as an important step toward the quantitative exploration of the $α$ cluster configuration in the light nuclei with relativistic heavy ion collisions.

Our results show that there is a significant correlation between the linearly polarized photon distribution and the transverse momentum distribution of pTM. The optimal kinematic region of the generated pTM is identified, which can provide a theoretical guide to the detection of pTM in experiments.

By varying the intrinsic initial geometry, the p/d/$^3$He+Au collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) provide a unique opportunity to understand the collective behavior and probe the possible sub-nucleon fluctuations in small systems. In this paper, we employ the hybrid model iEBE-VISHNU with Trento initial conditions to study the collective flow and the fluid behavior in p/d/$^3$He+Au collisions. With fine-tuned parameters, iEBE-VISHNU can describe the $v_2(p_T)$ and $v_3(p_T)$ data from the PHENIX and STAR collaborations. However, for some certain parameter sets with initial sub-nucleon fluctuation, the hydrodynamic simulations have already beyond their limits with the average Knudsen number $\langle K_n \rangle$ obviously larger than one. Our calculations demonstrate that, for a meaningful evaluation of the fluid behavior in the small systems, model simulations should also pay attention to the validity range of hydrodynamics.

We demonstrate that gluon transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution functions (TMDPDFs) can be extracted from lattice calculations of appropriate Euclidean correlations in large-momentum effective theory (LaMET). Based on perturbative calculations of gluon unpolarized and helicity TMDPDFs, we present a matching formula connecting them and their LaMET counterparts, where the latter are renormalized in a scheme facilitating lattice calculations and converted to the $\overline{\rm MS}$ scheme. The hard matching kernel is given up to one-loop level. We also show that the perturbative result is independent of the prescription used for the pinch-pole singularity in the relevant correlations. Our results offer a guidance for the extraction of gluon TMDPDFs from lattice simulations, and have the potential to greatly facilitate perturbative calculations of the hard matching kernel.

Predicting volume swelling of structural materials in nuclear reactors under high-dose neutron irradiations based on existing low-dose experiments or irradiation data with high-dose-rate energetic particles has been a long-standing challenge for safety evaluation and rapidly screening irradiation-resistant materials in nuclear energy systems. Here, we build an Additional Defect Absorption Model that describes the irradiation-induced swelling effects produced by energetic electrons, heavy-ions, and neutrons by considering additional defect sinks inherent in the irradiation process. Based on this model, we establish quantitative methods to predict high-dose swelling from low-dose behavior and obtain the equivalent irradiation dose for different energetic particles when the dose rates differ by several orders of magnitude. Furthermore, we propose a universal parameter to characterize the swelling resistance of various alloys and predict their radiation tolerances under different radiation conditions. This work provides quantitative prediction methods for evaluating irradiation-induced swelling effects of structural materials, which is critical to the safety and material development for advanced nuclear reactors.

Core-collapse supernova (CCSN) provides a unique astrophysical site for studying neutrino-matter interactions. Prior to the shock-breakout neutrino burst during the collapse of the iron core, a preshock $ν_e$ burst arises from the electron capture of nuclei and it is sensitive to the low-energy coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering (CE$ν$NS) which dominates the neutrino opacity. Since the CE$ν$NS depends strongly on the non-standard neutrino interactions (NSI) which are completely beyond the standard model and yet to be determined, the detection of the preshock burst thus provides a clean way to extract the NSI information. Within the spherically symmetric general-relativistic hydrodynamic simulation for the CCSN, we investigate the NSI effects on the preshock burst. We find that the NSI can maximally enhance the peak luminosity of the preshock burst almost by a factor of three, reaching a value comparable with that of the shock-breakout burst. Future detection of the preshock burst will have critical implications on astrophysics, neutrino physics and physics beyond the standard model.

Gravitational waves (GWs) provide unobscured insight into the birthplace of neutron stars (NSs) and black holes in core-collapse supernovae (CCSNe). The nuclear equation of state (EOS) describing these dense environments is yet uncertain, and variations in its prescription affect the proto-neutron star (PNS) and the post-bounce dynamics in CCSNe simulations, subsequently impacting the GW emission. We perform axisymmetric simulations of CCSNe with Skyrme-type EOSs to study how the GW signal and PNS convection zone are impacted by two experimentally accessible EOS parameters, (1) the effective mass of nucleons, $m^\star$, which is crucial in setting the thermal dependence of the EOS, and (2) the isoscalar incompressibility modulus, $K_{\rm{sat}}$. While $K_{\rm{sat}}$ shows little impact, the peak frequency of the GWs has a strong effective mass dependence due to faster contraction of the PNS for higher values of $m^\star$ owing to a decreased thermal pressure. These more compact PNSs also exhibit more neutrino heating which drives earlier explosions and correlates with the GW amplitude via accretion plumes striking the PNS, exciting the oscillations. We investigate the spatial origin of the GWs and show the agreement between a frequency-radial distribution of the GW emission and a perturbation analysis. We do not rule out overshoot from below via PNS convection as another moderately strong excitation mechanism in our simulations. We also study the combined effect of effective mass and rotation. In all our simulations we find evidence for a power gap near $\sim$1250 Hz, we investigate its origin and report its EOS dependence.

We investigate the mixing pattern of such operators under lattice renormalization using symmetry considerations. We perform an analysis for operators with all Dirac structures, which reveals mixings that are not present in one-loop lattice perturbation theory calculations. We also present the relevant one-loop matching in a renormalization scheme that does not introduce extra non-perturbative effects at large distances, both for the TMDPDFs and for the TMDWFs. We study the consequences of a hadron-quark phase transition (PT) in failing core-collapse supernovae (CCSNe) which give birth to stellar-mass black holes (BH). We perform a suite of neutrino-transport general-relativistic hydrodynamic simulations in spherical symmetry with 21 progenitor models and a hybrid equation of state (EoS) including hadrons and quarks. We find that the effect of the PT on the CCSN postbounce dynamics is a function of the bounce compactness parameter $ξ_{2.2}$. For $ξ_{2.2}\gtrsim0.24$, the PT leads to a second dynamical collapse of the protocompact star (PCS). While BH formation starts immediately after this second collapse for models with $ξ_{2.2}\gtrsim0.51$, the PCS experiences a second bounce and oscillations for models with $0.24\lesssimξ_{2.2}\lesssim0.51$. These models emit potent oscillatory neutrino signals with a period of $\sim$ms for tens of ms after the second bounce, which can be a strong indicator of the PT in failing CCSNe if detected in the future. However, no shock revival occurs and BH formation inevitably takes place in our spherically-symmetric simulations. Furthermore, via a diagram of mass-specific entropy evolution of the PCS, the progenitor dependence can be understood through the appearance of third-family of compact stars emerging at large entropy induced by the PT.

We report a study of the processes of $e^+e^-\to K^+ (D_s^- D^{*0} + D^{*-}_s D^0)$ based on $e^+e^-$ annihilation samples collected with the BESIII detector operating at BEPCII at five center-of-mass energies ranging from 4.628 to 4.698 GeV with a total integrated luminosity of 3.7 fb$^{-1}$. An excess over the known contributions of the conventional charmed mesons is observed near the $D_s^- D^{*0}$ and $D^{*-}_s D^0$ mass thresholds in the $K^{+}$ recoil-mass spectrum for events collected at $\sqrt{s}=4.681$ GeV. The structure matches a mass-dependent-width Breit-Wigner line shape, whose pole mass and width are determined as $(3982.5^{+1.8}_{-2.6}\pm2.1)$ MeV/$c^2$ and $(12.8^{+5.3}_{-4.4}\pm3.0)$ MeV, respectively. The first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. The significance of the resonance hypothesis is estimated to be 5.3 $σ$ over the contributions only from the conventional charmed mesons. This is the first candidate of the charged hidden-charm tetraquark with strangeness, decaying into $D_s^- D^{*0}$ and $D^{*-}_s D^0$. However, the properties of the excess need further exploration with more statistics.

A first-order quantum chromodynamics (QCD) phase transition (PT) may take place in the protocompact star (PCS) produced by a core-collapse supernova (CCSN). In this work, we study the consequences of such a PT in a non-rotating CCSN with axisymmetric hydrodynamic simulations. We find that the PT leads to the collapse of the PCS and results in a loud burst of gravitational waves (GWs). The amplitude of this GW burst is $\sim30$ times larger than the post-bounce GW signal normally found for non-rotating CCSN. It shows a broad peak at high frequencies ($\sim2500-4000$ Hz) in the spectrum, has a duration of $\lesssim5 {\rm ms}$, and carries $\sim3$ orders of magnitude more energy than the other episodes. Also, the peak frequency of the PCS oscillation increases dramatically after the PT-induced collapse. In addition to a second neutrino burst, the GW signal, if detected by the ground-based GW detectors, is decisive evidence of the first-order QCD PT inside CCSNe and provides key information about the structure and dynamics of the PCS.

The multi-particle states and rotational properties of two-particle bands in $^{254}$No are investigated by the cranked shell model (CSM) with pairing correlations treated by a particle-number conserving (PNC) method. For the first time, the rotational bands on top of two-particle $K^π=3^+,8^-$ and $10^+$ states and the pairing reduction are studied theoretically in $^{254}$No. The experimental excitation energies and moments of inertia for the multi-particle state are reproduced well by the calculation. Better agreement with the data are achieved by including the high-order deformation $\varepsilon_{6}$ which leads to enlarged $Z=100$ and $N=152$ deformed shell gaps. The rise of the $J^{(1)}$ in these two-particle bands compared with the ground-state band is attributed to the pairing reduction due to the Pauli blocking effects.

Electron capture on $^{20}$Ne is critically important for the final stage of evolution of stars with the initial masses of 8 - 10 $M_{\odot}$. In the present paper, we evaluate electron capture rates for a forbidden transition $^{20}$Ne (0$_{g.s.}^{+}$) $\rightarrow$ $^{20}$F (2$_{g.s.}^{+}$) in stellar environments by the multipole expansion method with the use of shell-model Hamiltonians. These rates have not been accurately determined in theory as well as in experiments. Our newly evaluated rates are compared with those obtained by a prescription that treats the transition as an allowed Gamow-Teller (GT) transition with the strength determined from a recent $β$-decay experiment for $^{20}$F (2$_{g.s.}^{+}$) $\rightarrow$ $^{20}$Ne (0$_{g.s.}^{+}$) \citep{Kirsebom}. We find that different electron energy dependence of the transition strengths between the two methods leads to sizable differences in the weak rates of the two methods. We also find that the Coulomb effects, that is, the effects of screening on ions and electrons are non-negligible. We apply our e-capture rates on $^{20}$Ne to the calculation of the evolution of high-density O-Ne-Mg cores of 8 - 10 $M_{\odot}$ stars. We find that our new rates affect the abundance distribution and the central density at the final stage of evolution.

We complete the procedure of extracting parton distribution functions (PDFs) using large momentum effective theory (LaMET) at leading power accuracy in the hadron momentum. We derive a general factorization formula for the quasi PDFs in the presence of mixing, and give the corresponding hard matching kernel at $\mathcal O(α_s)$, both for the unpolarized and for the polarized quark and gluon quasi-PDFs. Our calculation is performed in a regularization-independent momentum subtraction scheme. The results allow us to match the nonperturbatively renormalized quasi-PDFs to normal PDFs in the presence of mixing, and therefore can be used to extract flavor-singlet quark PDFs as well as gluon PDFs from lattice simulations.

The interaction of the pseudoscalar meson and the baryon octet is investigated by solving the Bethe-Salpeter equation in the unitary coupled-channel approximation, In addition to the Weinberg-Tomozawa term, the contribution of the $s-$ and $u-$ channel potentials in the S-wave approximation are taken into account. In the sector of isospin $I=1/2$ and strangeness $S=0$, a pole is detected in the reasonable region on the complex energy plane of $\sqrt{s}$ in the center of mass frame by analyzing the behavior of the scattering amplitude, which is higher than the $ηN$ threshold and lies on the third Riemann sheet. Thus it can be regarded as a resonance state and might correspond to the $N(1535)$ particle in the review of the Particle Data Group(PDG). The coupling constants of this resonance state to the $πN$, $ηN$, $K Λ$ and $K Σ$ channels are calculated, and it is found that this resonance state couples strongly to the hidden strange channels. Apparently, the hidden strange channels play an important role in the generation of the resonance state with strangeness zero. The interaction of the pseudoscalar meson and the baryon octet is repulsive in the sector of isospin $I=3/2$ and strangeness $S=0$, therefore, no resonance state can be generated dynamically.

The $x$-dependence of light-cone distribution amplitude (LCDA) can be directly calculated from a quasi distribution amplitude (DA) in lattice QCD within the framework of large-momentum effective theory (LaMET). In this paper, we study the one-loop renormalization of the quasi-DA in the regularization-independent momentum subtraction (RI/MOM) scheme. The renormalization factor for the quasi parton distribution function can be used to renormalize the quasi-DA provided that they are implemented on lattice and in perturbation theory in the same manner. We derive the one-loop matching coefficient that matches quasi-DA in the RI/MOM scheme onto LCDA in the $\overline{\rm MS}$ scheme. Our result provides the crucial step to extract the LCDAs from lattice matrix elements of quasi-DAs.

Gluon parton distribution functions (PDFs) in the proton can be calculated directly on Euclidean lattices using large momentum effective theory (LaMET). To realize this goal, one has to find renormalized gluon quasi-PDFs in which power divergences and operator mixing are thoroughly understood. For the unpolarized distribution, we identify four independent quasi-PDF correlators that can be multiplicatively renormalized on the lattice. Similarly, the helicity distribution can be derived from three independent multiplicatively renormalizable quasi-PDFs. We provide a LaMET factorization formula for these renormalized quasi-PDFs from which one can extract the gluon PDFs.

Recent perturbative calculation of quasi gluon distribution function at one-loop level shows the existence of extra linear ultraviolet divergences in the cut-off scheme. We employ the auxiliary field approach, and study the renormalization of gluon operators. The non-local gluon operator can mix with new operators under renormalization, and the linear divergences in quasi distribution function can be into the newly introduced operators. After including the mixing, we find the improved quasi gluon distribution functions contain only logarithmic divergences, and thus can be used to extract the gluon distribution in large momentum effective theory.

We study the unpolarized gluon quasidistribution function in the nucleon at one loop level in the large momentum effective theory. For the quark quasidistribution, power law ultraviolet divergences arise in the cut-off scheme and an important observation is that they all are subjected to Wilson lines. However for the gluon quasidistribution function, we first point out that the linear ultraviolet divergences also exist in the real diagram which is not connected to any Wilson line. We then study the one loop corrections to parton distribution functions in both cut-off scheme and dimensional regularization to deal with the ultraviolet divergences. In addition to the ordinary quark and gluon distributions, we also include the quark to gluon and gluon to quark splitting diagrams. The complete one-loop matching factors between the quasi and light cone parton distribution functions are presented in the cut-off scheme. We derive the $P^z$ evolution equation for quasi parton distribution functions, and find that the $P^z$ evolution kernels are identical to the DGLAP evolution kernels.

We present the exact Bethe ansatz solution for the two-dimensional BCS pairing Hamiltonian with p_x + i p_y symmetry. Using both mean-field theory and the exact solution we obtain the ground-state phase diagram parameterized by the filling fraction and the coupling constant. It consists of three phases denoted weak coupling BCS, weak pairing, and strong pairing. The first two phases are separated by a topologically protected line where the exact ground state is given by the Moore-Read pfaffian state. In the thermodynamic limit the ground-state energy is discontinuous on this line. The other two phases are separated by the critical line, also topologically protected, previously found by Read and Green. We establish a duality relation between the weak and strong pairing phases, whereby ground states of the weak phase are "dressed" versions of the ground states of the strong phase by zero energy (Moore-Read) pairs and characterized by a topological order parameter.
