Motivated by the recent progress in develo** high-precision relativistic chiral nucleon-nucleon interactions, we study the antinucleon-nucleon interaction at the leading order in the covariant chiral effective field theory. The phase shifts and inelasticities with $J\leq 1$ are obtained and compared to their non-relativistic counterparts. For most partial waves, the descriptions of phase shifts and inelasticities in the leading-order covariant chiral effective field theory are comparable to those in the next-to-leading order non-relativistic chiral effective field theory, confirming the relatively faster convergence observed in the nucleon-nucleon sector. In addition, we search for bound states/resonances near the $\bar{N}N$ threshold and find several structures that can be associated with those states recently observed by the BESIII Collaboration.

We propose a theoretical method to calculate the bound-state $β$-decay half-lives of highly-ionized atoms, which is based on the combination of the Takahashi-Yokoi model and our recently-developed projected shell model that can take into account both allowed and first-forbidden transitions of nuclear $β$ decay. Three examples that are of much experimental interests, $^{163}$Dy$^{66+}$, $^{187}$Re$^{75+}$ and $^{205}$Tl$^{81+}$ are taken for calculations. The ground and low-lying states of related nuclei are described reasonably. The bound-state $β$-decay half-lives of $^{163}$Dy$^{66+}$ and $^{187}$Re$^{75+}$ are described within a factor of two and four by our calculations without and with the quenching factors in allowed and first-forbidden transitions. The bound-state $β$-decay half-life of the last $s$-process branching point $^{205}$Tl$^{81+}$ is predicted to be 58 and 305 days for cases without and with the quenching factors in calculations. The presented method provides a theoretical way to calculate systematically the bound-state $β$-decay half-lives of nuclei from light to heavy ones including odd-mass and even-mass cases for the first time.

Proton-$^{133}$Cs elastic scattering at low momentum transfer is performed using an in-ring reaction technique at the Cooler Storage Ring at the Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou. Recoil protons from the elastic collisions between the internal H$_2$-gas target and the circulating $^{133}$Cs ions at 199.4 MeV/u are detected by a silicon-strip detector. The matter radius of $^{133}$Cs is deduced by describing the measured differential cross sections using the Glauber model. Employing the adopted proton distribution radius, a point-neutron radius of 4.86(21) fm for $^{133}$Cs is obtained. With the newly determined neutron radius, the weak mixing angle sin$^2 θ_W$ is independently extracted to be 0.227(28) by fitting the coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering data. Our work limits the sin$^2 θ_W$ value in a range smaller than the ones proposed by the previous independent approaches, and would play an important role in searching new physics via the high precision CE$ν$NS-CsI cross section data in the near future.

We investigate the thermoelectric effect, which describes the generation of an electric field induced by temperature and conserved charge chemical potential gradients, in the hot and dense hadronic matter created in heavy-ion collisions. Utilizing the Boltzmann kinetic theory within the repulsive mean-field hadron resonance gas model, we evaluate both the diffusion thermopower matrix and diffusion coefficient matrix for the baryon number ($B$), electric charge ($Q$), and strangeness ($S$).The Landau-Lifshitz frame is enforced in the derivation. We find that the thermoelectric effect hinders the diffusion processes of multiple conserved charges, particularly reducing the coupling between electric charge and baryon number (strangeness) in baryon (strangeness) diffusion. Based on the fact that the repulsive mean-field interactions between hadrons have a significant effect on the diffusion thermopower matrix and diffusion coefficient matrix in the baryon-rich region, we extend the investigation to include the impact of the magnetic field, analyzing the magneto-thermoelectric effect on both the diffusion coefficient matrix and the Hall-like diffusion coefficient matrix. The sensitivity of the magnetic field-dependent diffusion thermopower matrix and magneto-thermoelectric modified diffusion coefficient matrix to the choices of various transverse conditions is also studied.

We propose a theoretical method to calculate the stellar $β$-decay rates of nuclei in stellar environments with high temperature and density, based on the projected shell model, where contributions from both allowed and first-forbidden transitions are taken into account. As the first example, the stellar $β$-decay rate of one of the last $s$-process branching-point nuclei, $^{204}$Tl, is calculated and studied, where all related transitions are first-forbidden transitions. For the terrestrial case, the ground-state to ground-state transition is unique first-forbidden transition, which is described reasonably by our calculations. At the typical $s$-process temperature ($T\approx 0.3$ GK), non-unique first-forbidden transitions from thermally populated excited states of the parent nucleus are involved, the effective rate from our calculations is much lower than the one from the widely used data tables by Takahashi and Yokoi. Effect of the quenching factors for nuclear matrix elements in first-forbidden transitions on the stellar $β$-decay rates is discussed as well.

One-proton radioactivity in 149Lu, the latest identified proton emitter, is studied in the Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin (WKB) approach with the proton-nucleus potential extracted from the deformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in continuum (DRHBc) for the first time. The predicted half-life turns out to be consistent with the experimental measurement within uncertainties and (almost) independent of the density functionals in the DRHBc theory. Such a microscopic self-consistent calculation reveals that 149Lu is oblately deformed with a quadrupole deformation -0.18, and rules out the possibility of a prolate quadrupole deformation suggested in the nonadiabatic quasiparticle model. We also check the validity of this approach in the description of 150,151Lu and their isomeric states. The deviations of the predicted half-lives from their experimental counterparts are mostly smaller than those of the theoretical studies without considering deformation effects. Furthermore, we predict 148Lu to be a more oblately deformed proton-emitter with a longer half-life than that of 149Lu, which can be checked in the future. Our studies show that the DRHBc plus WKB approach provides a new alternative method to evaluate the half-lives of well-deformed proton emitters.

A primary goal of the upcoming Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) is to measure the $\mathcal{O}(10)$ MeV neutrinos produced by a Galactic core-collapse supernova if one should occur during the lifetime of the experiment. The liquid-argon-based detectors planned for DUNE are expected to be uniquely sensitive to the $ν_e$ component of the supernova flux, enabling a wide variety of physics and astrophysics measurements. A key requirement for a correct interpretation of these measurements is a good understanding of the energy-dependent total cross section $σ(E_ν)$ for charged-current $ν_e$ absorption on argon. In the context of a simulated extraction of supernova $ν_e$ spectral parameters from a toy analysis, we investigate the impact of $σ(E_ν)$ modeling uncertainties on DUNE's supernova neutrino physics sensitivity for the first time. We find that the currently large theoretical uncertainties on $σ(E_ν)$ must be substantially reduced before the $ν_e$ flux parameters can be extracted reliably: in the absence of external constraints, a measurement of the integrated neutrino luminosity with less than 10\% bias with DUNE requires $σ(E_ν)$ to be known to about 5%. The neutrino spectral shape parameters can be known to better than 10% for a 20% uncertainty on the cross-section scale, although they will be sensitive to uncertainties on the shape of $σ(E_ν)$. A direct measurement of low-energy $ν_e$-argon scattering would be invaluable for improving the theoretical precision to the needed level.

We calculate the nonperturbative two-pion exchange (TPE) contributions to the $NN$ interaction in covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory. We study how the nonperturbative resummation affects the $NN$ phase shifts for partial waves with $J \geq 3$ and $L \leq 6$. No significant differences are observed between the nonperturbative phase shifts and perturbative ones for most partial waves except for $^3D_3$, for which the nonperturbative resummation greatly improves the description of the phase shifts. However, a significant cutoff dependence is found for this partial wave and a reasonable description of the phase shifts can only be obtained with a particular cutoff. Furthermore, we compare the so-obtained nonperturbative phase shifts with those obtained in the heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory. We show that the contributions from relativistic nonperturbative TPE are more moderate than those from the nonrelativistic TPE obtained in the dimensional regularization scheme. A proper convergence pattern is observed for most of the partial waves studied except for $^3F_3$, $^3F_4$, and $^3H_6$, for which the subleading TPE contributions are a bit strong. We find that for $H$ and $I$ partial waves, the OPE alone can already describe the phase shifts reasonably well.

With the two flavor Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model we carry out a phenomenological study on the chiral phase structure, mesonic properties and transport properties in a momentum-space anisotropic quark matter. To calculate transport coefficients we have utilized the kinetic theory in the relaxation time approximation, where the momentum anisotropy is embedded in the estimation of both distribution function and the relaxation time. It is shown that an increase of the anisotropy parameter $ξ$ may results in a catalysis of chiral symmetry breaking. The critical endpoint (CEP) is shifted to smaller temperatures and larger quark chemical potentials as $ξ$ increases, the impact of momentum anisotropy on temperature of CEP is almost the same as that on the quark chemical potential of CEP. The meson masses and the associated decay widths also exhibit a significant $ξ$ dependence. It is observed that the temperature behavior of scaled shear viscosity $η/T^3$ and scaled electrical conductivity $σ_{el}/T$ exhibit a similar dip structure, with the minima of both $η/T^3$ and $σ_{el}/T$ shifting toward higher temperatures with increasing $ξ$. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the Seebeck coefficient $S$ decreases when temperature goes up and its sign is positive, indicating the dominant carriers for converting the temperature gradient to the electric field are up-quarks. The Seebeck coefficient $S$ is significantly enhanced with a large $ξ$ for the temperature below the critical temperature.

An excess over the known contributions of the conventional charmed mesons is observed near the $D_s^- D^{*0}$ and $D^{*-}_s D^0$ mass thresholds in the $K^{+}$ recoil-mass spectrum for events collected at $\sqrt{s}=4.681$ GeV. The structure matches a mass-dependent-width Breit-Wigner line shape, whose pole mass and width are determined as $(3982.5^{+1.8}_{-2.6}\pm2.1)$ MeV/$c^2$ and $(12.8^{+5.3}_{-4.4}\pm3.0)$ MeV, respectively. The first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. The significance of the resonance hypothesis is estimated to be 5.3 $σ$ over the contributions only from the conventional charmed mesons. This is the first candidate of the charged hidden-charm tetraquark with strangeness, decaying into $D_s^- D^{*0}$ and $D^{*-}_s D^0$. We study the $Λ_c N$ interaction in the covariant chiral effective field theory (ChEFT) at leading order. All the relevant low-energy constants are determined by fitting to the lattice QCD simulations from the HAL QCD Collaboration. Extrapolating the results to the physical point, we show that the $Λ_c N$ interaction is weakly attractive in the $^1S_0$ channel, but in the $^3S_1$ channel, it is only attractive at extremely low energies and soon turns repulsive for larger laboratory energy. Furthermore, we show that the neglect of the $^3S_1-{}^3D_1$ coupling provided by the leading order covariant ChEFT would result in an attractive interaction in the $^3S_1$ channel at the physical point, which coincides with the previous non-relatistic ChEFT study. As a byproduct, we predict the $^3D_1$ phase shifts and the mixing angel $\varepsilon_1$, which can be checked by future lattice QCD simulations. In addition, we compare the $Λ_c N$ interaction with the $ΛN$ and $NN$ interactions to study how the baryon-nucleon ($BN$) interactions evolve as a function of the baryon mass with the replacement of a light quark by a strange or charm quark in the baryon ($B$).

The four-fermion interactions of the NJL-type model are Fierz-transformed into two different classes, i.e., the quark-antiquark and the quark-quark interaction channels, associated with the chiral symmetry breaking and color superconductivity respectively. We conclude that the weighting factor between quark-antiquark and quark-quark interaction channels has significance on the phase structure when the mean-field approximation is employed, and the baryon number density gives a tight constraint on the weighting factor of quark-antiquark interaction channels. Besides, the susceptibilities show that the color superconducting phase transition is of the second-order and takes place before the chiral crossover transition as quark number density increases. In the end, we study the critical temperatures $T_c$ of the color superconductivity and it agrees with the perturbative result of diquark condensate $Δ\approx0.57T_c$.

We show that the contributions of relativistic TPE are more moderate than those of the nonrelativistic TPE. The relativistic corrections play an important role in F-waves especially the $^3\text{F}_2$ partial wave. Moreover, the relativistic results seem to converge faster than the nonrelativistic results in almost all the partial waves studied in the present work, consistent with the studies performed in the one-baryon sector.

Nucleon-nucleon interactions, both bare and effective, play an important role in our understanding of the non-perturbative strong interaction, as well as nuclear structure and reactions. In recent years, tremendous efforts have been seen in the lattice QCD community to derive nucleon-nucleon interactions from first principles. Because of the daunting computing resources needed, most of such simulations were still performed with larger than physical light quark masses. In the present work, employing the recently proposed covariant chiral effective field theory (ChEFT), we study the light quark mass dependence of the nucleon-nucleon interaction extracted by the HALQCD group. It is shown that the pion-full version of the ChEFT can describe the lattice QCD data with $m_π=469$ MeV and their experimental counterpart reasonably well, while the pion-less version can describe the lattice QCD data with $m_π=672, 837, 1015, 1171$ MeV, for both the $^1S_0$ and $^3S_1$-$^3D_1$ channels. The slightly better description of the single channel than the triplet channel indicates that higher order studies are necessary for the latter. Our results confirmed previous studies that the nucleon-nucleon interaction becomes more attractive for both the singlet and triplet channels as the pion mass decreases towards its physical value. It is shown that the virtual bound state in the $^1S_0$ channel remains virtual down to the chiral limit, while the deuteron only appears for a pion mass smaller than about 400 MeV. It seems that proper chiral extrapolations of nucleon-nucleon interaction are possible for pion masses smaller than 500 MeV, similar to the mesonic and one-baryon sectors.

The phase structure of ideal Bose gas system within different boundary conditions, i.e., the periodic boundary condition and Dirichlet boundary condition in this work, in an infinite volume, is investigated. It is found that the ground states of ideal Bose gas within those two boundary conditions are both topologically nontrivial, which can not be classified by the traditional symmetry breaking theory. The ground states are different topological phases corresponding to those two boundary conditions, which can be distinguished by the off--diagonal particle number susceptibility. Moreover, this result is universal. The boundary condition may play an important role in pining the critical endpoint of QCD diagram on the approach of the lattice simulations and the computation of some solvable statistical models .

Based on a spin-dependent Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck transport model with spin-dependent potentials incorporated using the lattice Hamiltonian method, we have studied the global spin polarization perpendicular to the reaction plane as well as the local spin polarization in the longitudinal direction in non-central intermediate-energy heavy-ion collisions, as an extension of similar studies in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. Both the global and the local spin polarizations are found to be mostly dominated by the time-odd component of the nuclear spin-orbit potential. Impacts of various theoretical uncertainties on the nucleon spin polarization as well as its dependence on the beam energy and impact parameter are discussed. Our study serves as a baseline for understanding the spin polarization mechanism of strongly interacting matter produced in heavy-ion collisions dominated by nucleon degree of freedom.

Quadrupole and octupole deformation energy surfaces, low-energy excitation spectra and transition rates in fourteen isotopic chains: Xe, Ba, Ce, Nd, Sm, Gd, Rn, Ra, Th, U, Pu, Cm, Cf, and Fm, are systematically analyzed using a theoretical framework based on a quadrupole-octupole collective Hamiltonian (QOCH), with parameters determined by constrained reflection-asymmetric and axially-symmetric relativistic mean-field calculations. The microscopic QOCH model based on the PC-PK1 energy density functional and $δ$-interaction pairing is shown to accurately describe the empirical trend of low-energy quadrupole and octupole collective states, and predicted spectroscopic properties are consistent with recent microscopic calculations based on both relativistic and non-relativistic energy density functionals. Low-energy negative-parity bands, average octupole deformations, and transition rates show evidence for octupole collectivity in both mass regions, for which a microscopic mechanism is discussed in terms of evolution of single-nucleon orbitals with deformation.

We found that the spin splitting of the collective flows is not affected by the spin-dependent cross sections, justifying it as a good probe of the in-medium nuclear spin-orbit interaction. With the in-medium nuclear spin-orbit mean-field potential that leads to local spin polarization, we found that the spin-averaged observables, such as elliptic flows of free nucleons and light clusters, becomes smaller with the spin-dependent differential nucleon-nucleon scattering cross sections.

A consistent derivation of the equations of motion (EOMs) of test particles for solving the spin-dependent Boltzmann-Vlasov equation is presented. The resulting EOMs in phase space are similar to the canonical equations in Hamiltonian dynamics, and the EOM of spin is the same as that in the Heisenburg picture of quantum mechanics. Considering further the quantum nature of spin and choosing the direction of total angular momentum in heavy-ion reactions as a reference of measuring nucleon spin, the EOMs of spin-up and spin-down nucleons are given separately. The key elements affecting the spin dynamics in heavy-ion collisions are identified. The resulting EOMs provide a solid foundation for using the test-particle approach in studying spin dynamics in heavy-ion collisions at intermediate energies. Future comparisons of model simulations with experimental data will help constrain the poorly known in-medium nucleon spin-orbit coupling relevant for understanding properties of rare isotopes and their astrophysical impacts.

It is well known that non-central nuclear forces, such as the spin-orbital coupling and the tensor force, play important roles in understanding many interesting features of nuclear structures. However, their dynamical effects in nuclear reactions are poorly known since only the spin-averaged observables are normally studied both experimentally and theoretically. Realizing that spin-sensitive observables in nuclear reactions may carry useful information about the in-medium properties of non-central nuclear interactions, besides earlier studies using the time-dependent Hartree-Fock approach to understand effects of spin-orbital coupling on the threshold energy and spin polarization in fusion reactions, some efforts have been made recently to explore dynamical effects of non-central nuclear forces in intermediate-energy heavy-ion collisions using transport models. The focuses of these studies have been on investigating signatures of the density and isospin dependence of the form factor in the spin-dependent single-nucleon potential. Interestingly, some useful probes were identified in the model studies while so far there is still no data to compare with. In this brief review, we summarize the main physics motivations as well as the recent progress in understanding the spin dynamics and identifying spin-sensitive observables in heavy-ion reactions at intermediate energies. We hope the interesting, important, and new physics potentials identified in the spin dynamics of heavy-ion collisions will stimulate more experimental work in this direction.

Incorporating a newly improved isospin- and momentum-dependent interaction in the isospin-dependent Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck transport model IBUU11, we have investigated relative effects of the density dependence of nuclear symmetry energy $E_{sym}(ρ)$ and the neutron-proton effective mass splitting $m^*_n-m^*_p$ on the neutron/proton ratio of free nucleons and those in light clusters. It is found that the $m^*_n-m^*_p$ has a relatively stronger effect than the $E_{sym}(ρ)$ and the assumption of $m^*_n\leq m^*_p$ leads to a higher neutron/proton ratio. Moreover, this finding is independent of the in-medium nucleon-nucleon cross sections used. However, results of our calculations using the $E_{sym}(ρ)$ and $m^*_n-m^*_p$ both within their current uncertainty ranges are all too low compared to the recent NSCL/MSU double neutron/proton ratio data from central $^{124}$Sn+$^{124}$Sn and $^{112}$Sn+$^{112}$Sn collisions at 50 and 120 MeV/u, thus calling for new mechanisms to explain the puzzlingly high neutron/proton ratio observed in the experiments.

The spin up-down splitting of collective flows in intermediate-energy heavy-ion collisions as a result of the nuclear spin-orbit interaction is investigated within a spin- and isospin-dependent Boltzmann-Uehing-Uhlenbeck transport model SIBUU12. Using a Skyrme-type spin-orbit coupling quadratic in momentum, we found that the spin splittings of the directed flow and elliptic flow are largest in peripheral Au+Au collisions at beam energies of about 100-200 MeV/nucleon, and the effect is considerable even in smaller systems especially for nucleons with high transverse momenta. The collective flows of light clusters of different spin states are also investigated using an improved dynamical coalescence model with spin. Our study can be important in understanding the properties of in-medium nuclear spin-orbit interactions once the spin-dependent observables proposed in this work can be measured.

The roles played by mesons in the electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon are explored using as a basis a model containing vector mesons with coupling to the continuum together with the asymptotic $Q^2$ behavior of perturbative QCD. Specifically, the vector dominance model (GKex) developed by Lomon is employed, as it is known to be very successful in representing the existing high-quality data published to date. An analysis is made of the experimental uncertainties present when the differences between the GKex model and the data are expanded in orthonormal basis functions. A main motivation for the present study is to provide insight into how the various ingredients in this model yield the measured behavior, including discussions of when dipole form factors are to be expected or not, of which mesons are the major contributors, for instance, at low-$Q^2$ or large distances, and of what effects are predicted from coupling to the continuum. Such insights are first discussed in momentum space, followed by an analysis of how different and potentially useful information emerges when both the experimental and theoretical electric form factors are Fourier transformed to coordinate space. While these Fourier transforms should not be interpreted as "charge distributions", nevertheless the roles played by the various mesons, especially which are dominant at large or small distance scales, can be explored via such experiment--theory comparisons.
