The rotational properties of the transfermium nuclei are investigated in the full deformation space by implementing a shell-model-like approach in the cranking covariant density functional theory on a three-dimensional lattice, where the pairing correlations, deformations, and moments of inertia are treated in a microscopic and self-consistent way. The kinematic and dynamic moments of inertia of the rotational bands observed in the transfermium nuclei $^{252}$No, $^{254}$No, $^{254}$Rf, and $^{256}$Rf are well reproduced without any adjustable parameters using a well-determined universal density functional. It is found for the first time that the emergence of the octupole deformation should be responsible for the significantly different rotational behavior observed in $^{252}$No and $^{254}$No. The present results provide a microscopic solution to the long-standing puzzle on the rotational behavior in No isotopes, and highlight the risk of investigating only the hexacontetrapole ($β_{60}$) deformation effects in rotating transfermium nuclei without considering the octupole deformation.

The result shows that the intrinsic angular resolution of the detector is within 0.30$^{\circ}$ and has an energy resolution of 6.85\% for 3.0 MeV $α$ particles. The gain uniformity of the detector is about 10\% (RMS/Mean), tested by the $^{55}$Fe X-ray source.

Ab initio calculations have achieved remarkable success in nuclear structure studies. Numerous works highlight the pivotal role of three-body forces in nuclear ab initio calculations. Concurrently, efforts have been made to replicate these calculations using only realistic nucleon-nucleon (NN) interactions. A novel local chiral next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (N3LO) NN interaction, distinct due to its weaker tensor force, has recently been established. This paper applies this local NN interaction in ab initio frameworks to calculate the low-lying spectra of p-shell light nuclei, particularly 10B, ground-state energies and shell evolution in oxygen isotopes. Results are compared with calculations utilizing nonlocal chiral N3LO NN and chiral NN +3N interactions. The ab initio calculations with the local N N potential accurately describe the spectra of p-shell nuclei, notably the 10B. Additionally, the neutron drip line for oxygen isotopes, with 24O as the drip line nucleus, is accurately reproduced in ab initio calculations with the local NN interaction. Calculations with the local NN interaction also reproduce the subshell closure at N = 14 and 16, albeit with a stronger shell gap compared to experimental data. However, the calculated charge radii based on the local NN interaction are underestimated compared with experimental data, which is similar to results from the nonlocal NN interaction. Consequently, the present ab initio calculations further indicate significant spin-orbit splitting effects with the new local NN potential, suggesting that 3N forces remain an important consideration.

Electron-neutrino charged-current interactions with xenon nuclei were modeled in the nEXO neutrinoless double-beta decay detector (~5-tonne, 90% ${}^{136}$Xe, 10% ${}^{134}$Xe) to evaluate its sensitivity to supernova neutrinos. Predictions for event rates and detectable signatures were modeled using the MARLEY event generator. We find good agreement between MARLEY's predictions and existing theoretical calculations of the inclusive cross sections at supernova neutrino energies. The interactions modeled by MARLEY were simulated within the nEXO simulation framework and were run through an example reconstruction algorithm to determine the detector's efficiency for reconstructing these events. The simulated data, incorporating the detector response, were used to study the ability of nEXO to reconstruct the incident electron-neutrino spectrum and these results were extended to a larger xenon detector of the same isotope enrichment. We estimate that nEXO will be able to observe electron-neutrino interactions with xenon from supernovae as far as 5 to 8 kpc from earth, while the ability to reconstruct incident electron-neutrino spectrum parameters from observed interactions in nEXO is limited to closer supernovae.

The high momentum tail (HMT) in the momentum distribution of nucleons above the Fermi surface has been regarded as an evidence of short-range correlations (SRCs) in atomic nuclei. It has been showcased recently that the np Bremsstrahlung radiation in heavy ion reactions can be used to extract HMT information. The Richardson-Lucy (RL) algorithm is introduced to the reconstruction of the original Bremsstrahlung γ-ray energy spectrum from experimental measurements. By solving the inverse problem of the detector response to the γ-rays, the original energy spectrum of the Bremsstrahlung γ in 25 MeV/u 86Kr + 124Sn has been reconstructed and compared to the isospin- and momentum-dependent Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck (IBUU) simulations. The analysis based on hypothesis test suggests the existence of the HMT of nucleons in nuclei, in accordance with the previous conclusions. With its effectiveness being demonstrated, it is feasible to apply the RL algorithm in future experiments of measuring the Bremsstrahlung γ-rays in heavy ion reactions.

Hadronic resonances emerge from strong interactions encoding the dynamics of quarks and gluons. The structure of these resonances can be probed by virtual photons parameterized in transition form factors. In this study, twelve $N^*$ and $Δ$ transition form factors at the pole are extracted from data with the center-of-mass energy from $πN$ threshold to $1.8\,{\rm GeV}$, and the photon virtuality $0\leq Q^2/{\rm GeV}^2\leq 8$. For the first time, these results are determined from a simultaneous analysis of more than one state, i.e., $\sim 10^5$ $πN$, $ηN$, and $KΛ$ electroproduction data. In addition, about $ 5\cdot 10^4$ data in the hadronic sector as well as photoproduction serve as boundary conditions. For the $Δ(1232)$ and $N(1440)$ states our results are in qualitative agreement with previous studies, while the transition form factors at the poles of some higher excited states are estimated for the first time. Realistic uncertainties are determined by further exploring the parameter space.

Nuclear coherent population transfer (NCPT) plays an important role in the exploration and application of atomic nuclei. How to achieve high-fidelity NCPT remains so far challenging. Here, we investigate the complete population transfer of nuclear states. We first consider a cyclic three-level system, based on the mixed-state inverse engineering scheme by adding additional laser fields in an open three-level nuclear system with spontaneous emission. We find the amplitude of the additional field is related to the ratio of the pump and Stokes field amplitudes. As long as an appropriate additional field is selected, complete transfer can be achieved even when the intensities of the pump and Stokes fields are exceedingly low. The transfer efficiency exhibits excellent robustness with respect to laser peak intensity and pulse delay. We demonstrate the effectiveness through examples such as $^{229}$Th, $^{223}$Ra, $^{113}$Cd, and $^{97}$Tc, which have a long lifetime excited state, as well as $^{187}$Re, $^{172}$Yb, $^{168}$Er and $^{154}$Gd with a short lifetime excited state. Focusing on the case without additional coupling, we further reduce the three-level system to an effective two-level problem. We modify the pump and Stokes pulses by using counterdiabatic driving to implement high-fidelity population transfer. The schemes open up new possibilities for controlling nuclear states.

Understanding the properties of hypernuclei helps to constrain the interaction between hyperon and nucleon, which is known to play an essential role in determining the properties of neutron stars. Experimental measurements have suggested that the hypertriton ($^3_Λ\text{H}$), the lightest hypernucleus, exhibits a halo structure with a deuteron core encircled by a $Λ$ hyperon at a distance of about 10 fm. This large $Λ-d$ distance in $^3_Λ\text{H}$ wave function is found to cause a suppressed $^3_Λ\text{H}$ yield and a softening of its transverse momentum ($p_T$) spectrum in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. Within the coalescence model based on nucleons and $Λ$ hyperons from a microscopic hybrid hydro model with a hadronic afterburner for nuclear cluster production in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$= 5.02 TeV, we show how this softening of the hypertriton $p_T$ spectrum appears and leads to a significantly smaller mean $p_T$ for $^3_Λ\text{H}$ than for helium-3 ($^3$He). The latter is opposite to the predictions from the blast-wave model which assumes that $^3_Λ\text{H}$ and $^3$He are thermally produced at the kinetic freeze-out of heavy ion collisions. The discovered quantum mechanical softening of the (anti-)hypertriton spectrum can be experimentally tested in relativistic heavy-ion collisions at different collision energies and centralities and used to obtain valuable insights to the mechanisms for light (hyper-)nuclei production in these collisions.

The neutrinoless double-$β$ ($0νββ$) decay and the double Gamow-Teller (DGT) transition are investigated with the state-of-the-art Relativistic Configuration-interaction Density functional theory. A strong linear correlation between the nuclear matrix elements (NMEs) of the $0νββ$ decay and the DGT transition is demonstrated. This linear correlation is found to originate from the similarity of the leading-order term of the $0νββ$-decay operator and the DGT-transition one, as revealed by expanding the $0νββ$-decay operator in terms of the spherical harmonics. The present results provide a strong support to constrain the $0νββ$-decay NMEs through the double charge-exchange reactions.

Data Nucl. Data Tables 144, 101488 (2022)]. The calculated binding energies, two-nucleon and one-neutron separation energies, root-mean-square (rms) radii of neutron, proton, matter, and charge distributions, quadrupole deformations, and neutron and proton Fermi surfaces are tabulated and compared with available experimental data. A total of 4829 even-$Z$ nuclei are predicted to be bound, with an rms deviation of 1.477 MeV from the 1244 mass data. Good agreement with the available experimental odd-even mass differences, $α$ decay energies, and charge radii is also achieved. The description accuracy for nuclear masses and nucleon separation energies as well as the prediction for drip lines is compared with the results obtained from other relativistic and nonrelativistic density functional. The comparison shows that the DRHBc theory with PC-PK1 provides an excellent microscopic description for the masses of even-$Z$ nuclei. The systematics of the nucleon separation energies, odd-even mass differences, pairing energies, two-nucleon gaps, $α$ decay energies, rms radii, quadrupole deformations, potential energy curves, neutron density distributions, and neutron mean-field potentials are discussed.

Probing the $α$ cluster of $^{16}$O with the relativistic $^{16}$O+$^{16}$O collisions has raised great interest in the heavy ion community. However, the effects of the $α$ cluster on the soft hadron observables vary largely among different studies. In this paper, we explain the differences by the compactness of the $α$ cluster in oxygen, using iEBE-VISHNU hydrodynamic simulations with different initial state $α$ cluster configurations. We also find several observables, such as the intensive skewness of the $[p_{\rm T}]$ correlator $Γ_{p_{\rm T}}$, the harmonic flows $v_2\{2\}$, $v_2\{4\}$, $v_3\{2\}$, and the $v_n^2-δ[p_{\rm T}]$ correlations $ρ(v_{2}^{2}, [p_{\rm T}])$, $ρ(v_{3}^{2}, [p_{\rm T}])$ in $^{16}$O+$^{16}$O collisions are sensitive to the compactness of the $α$ cluster in the colliding nuclei, which can be used to constrain the configurations of $^{16}$O in the future. Our study serves as an important step toward the quantitative exploration of the $α$ cluster configuration in the light nuclei with relativistic heavy ion collisions.

We introduce a vector meson renormalization within the CMF framework, enabling precise adjustments of meson masses and coupling strengths related to vector meson interactions. Performing a new fit to the deconfinement potential, we are able to replicate recent lattice QCD results, low energy nuclear physics properties, neutron star observational data, and key phase diagram features as per modern constraints. This approach enhances our understanding of vector mesons' roles in mediating nuclear interactions and their impact on the equation of state, contributing to a more comprehensive understanding of the QCD phase diagram and its implications for nuclear and astrophysical phenomena.

The recently observed abnormal bifurcation of the double binding energy differences $δV_{pn}$ between the odd-odd and even-even nuclei along the $N=Z$ line from Ni to Rb has challenged the nuclear theories. To solve this problem, a shell-model-like approach based on the relativistic density functional theory is established, by treating simultaneously the neutron-neutron, proton-neutron, and proton-proton pairing correlations both microscopically and self-consistently. Without any \textit{ad hoc} parameters, the calculated results well reproduce the observations, and the mechanism for this abnormal bifurcation is found to be due to the enhanced proton-neutron pairing correlations in the odd-odd $N=Z$ nuclei, compared with the even-even ones. The present results provide an excellent interpretation for the abnormal $δV_{pn}$ bifurcation, and provide a clear signal for the existence of the proton-neutron pairing correlations for nuclei close to the $N=Z$ line.

The information of the resonance poles is provided by a comprehensive coupled-channel approach, the Jülich-Bonn model. Thirteen states that are significant in this approach are studied. Two criteria for each state are adopted in this paper, the comparison thereof roughly indicates the model uncertainties. It is found that the conclusions for eight resonances are relatively certain: $N(1535) \frac{1}{2}^-$, $N(1440) \frac{1}{2}^+$, $N(1710) \frac{1}{2}^+$, and $N(1520) \frac{3}{2}^-$ tend to be composite; whereas $N(1650) \frac{1}{2}^-$, $N(1900) \frac{3}{2}^+$, $N(1680) \frac{5}{2}^+$, and $Δ(1600) \frac{3}{2}^+$ tend to be compact.

Although Hydro-Coal-Frag model can also roughly describe the elliptic flow in high multiplicity p--p collisions with the quark coalescence process, the larger contribution from the string fragmentations leads to a notable violation of the NCQ scaling of $v_2$ at intermediate $p_{\rm T}$ as observed in the experiment. Comparison runs of the Hydro-Frag model without the coalescence process demonstrate that regardless the parameter adjustments, the Hydro-Frag model cannot simultaneously describe the $p_{\rm T}$ spectra and the elliptic flow of identified hadrons in either p--Pb collisions or p--p collisions. The calculations in this paper thus provide support for the existence of partonic degrees of freedom and the possible formation of the QGP in the small systems created at the LHC.

In heavy-ion collisions at intermediate energies, the production and propagation of $Δ$ particles are crucial to understanding the nuclear equation of state and inferring the properties of nuclear matter at high densities. Based on the self-consistent relativistic Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck (RBUU) transport theory, by introducing the isovector $ρ$ meson exchange into the effective Lagrangian and adopting the density-dependent coupling constants, the detailed expressions for isospin-dependent in-medium $NΔ\rightarrow NΔ$ elastic cross sections $σ_{NΔ}^{*}$ have been calculated. The energy and density dependence of the isospin-related $σ_{NΔ}^{*}$ as well as the total contributions of $σ$, $ω$ and $ρ$ meson fields are analyzed. It is found that the total $σ_{NΔ}^{*}$ has a sensitive center-of-mass energy dependence at lower energies while exhibiting a slight increase as the center-of-mass energy increases. The isospin effect between different isospin-separated channels weakens as the energy and/or density increases. The isospin effect on the density- and energy-dependent in-medium $NΔ$ elastic cross sections is dominantly caused by the delicate balance of the isovector $ρ$ meson exchange.

The neutron rich neck zone created in heavy ion reaction is experimentally probed by the production of the $A=3$ isobars. The energy spectra and angular distributions of triton and $^3$He are measured with the CSHINE detector in $^{86}$Kr +$^{208}$Pb reactions at 25 MeV/u. While the energy spectrum of $^{3}$He is harder than that of triton, known as "$^{3}$He-puzzle", the yield ratio $R({\rm t/^3He})$ presents a robust rising trend with the polar angle in laboratory. Using the fission fragments to reconstruct the fission plane, the enhancement of out-plane $R({\rm t/^3He})$ is confirmed in comparison to the in-plane ratios. Transport model simulations reproduce qualitatively the experimental trends, but the quantitative agreement is not achieved. The results demonstrate that a neutron rich neck zone is formed in the reactions. Further studies are called for to understand the clustering and the isospin dynamics related to neck formation.

The Relativistic Configuration-interaction Density functional (ReCD) theory that combines the advantages of large-scale configuration-interaction shell model and relativistic density functional theory is extended to study nuclear chiral rotation. The energy spectra and transition probabilities of the chiral doublet bands are reproduced satisfactorily without any free parameters. By analyzing the probability amplitudes of the wavefunctions, the significant roles of configuration mixing and four quasiparticle states to the chiral doublets are revealed. The evolution from chiral vibration to static chirality are clearly illustrated by the K plot and azimuthal plot. The present investigation provides both microscopic and quantal descriptions for nuclear chirality for the first time and demonstrates the robustness of chiral geometry against the configuration mixing as well as the four quasiparticle states.

In this work, the Light Gradient Boosting Machine (LightGBM), which is a modern decision tree based machine-learning algorithm, is used to study the fusion cross section (CS) of heavy-ion reaction. Several basic quantities (e.g., mass number and proton number of projectile and target) and the CS obtained from phenomenological formula are fed into the LightGBM algorithm to predict the CS. It is found that, on the validation set, the mean absolute error (MAE) which measures the average magnitude of the absolute difference between $log_{10}$ of the predicted CS and experimental CS is 0.129 by only using the basic quantities as the input, this value is smaller than 0.154 obtained from the empirical coupled channel model. MAE can be further reduced to 0.08 by including an physical-informed input feature. The MAE on the test set (it consists of 280 data points from 18 reaction systems that not included in the training set) is about 0.19 and 0.53 by including and excluding the physical-informed feature, respectively. We further verify the LightGBM predictions by comparing the CS of $^{ 40,48}{\rm Ca }$+$^{78}{\rm Ni}$ obtained from the density-constrained time-dependent Hartree-Fock approach. Our study demonstrates the importance of physical information in predicting fusion cross section of heavy-ion reaction with machine learning.

This work aims at determining the composition of certain $N^*$ and $Δ$ resonances, i.e. whether they are compact states formed directly by quarks and gluons, or hadronic molecules generated from the meson-baryon interaction. The information of the resonance poles is provided by a comprehensive coupled-channel approach, the Jülich-Bonn model. $13$ states that are significant in this approach are studied. Two criteria for each state are adopted in this paper, the comparison thereof roughly indicates the model uncertainties. It is found that the conclusions for $8$ resonances are relatively certain: $N(1535) \frac{1}{2}^-$, $N(1440) \frac{1}{2}^+$, $N(1710) \frac{1}{2}^+$, and $N(1520) \frac{3}{2}^-$ tend to be composite; whereas $N(1650) \frac{1}{2}^-$, $N(1900) \frac{3}{2}^+$, $N(1680) \frac{5}{2}^+$, and $Δ(1600) \frac{3}{2}^+$ tend to be compact.

The accurate determination of the nuclear interaction potential is essential for predicting the fusion cross sections and understanding the reaction mechanism, which plays an important role in the synthesis of superheavy elements. In this work, the neural network, which combines with the calculations of the fusion cross sections via the Hill-Wheeler formula, is developed to optimize the parameters of the Woods-Saxon potential by comparing the experimental values. The correlations between the parameters of Woods-Saxon potential and the reaction partners, which can be quantitatively fitted to a sigmoid-like function with the mass numbers, have been displayed manifestly for the first time. This study could promote the accurate estimation of nucleus-nucleus interaction potential in low energy heavy-ion collisions.

The UrQMD model was adopted to simulate the dynamic evolution of heavy-ion collisions, whereas the GEMINI++ code was used to simulate the decay of primary fragments produced by UrQMD. The calculated results were compared with the INDRA and FOPI experimental data. It was found that the rapidity distribution, collective flows, and nuclear stop** power were affected to a certain extent by the decay of primary fragments, especially at lower beam energies. Furthermore, the experimental data of the collective flows and nuclear stop** power at the investigated beam energies were better reproduced when the sequential decay effect was included.

The level structure of the transitional nucleus $\mathrm{^{217}Ra}$ has been extended with the addition of around 20 new transitions. The discrepancies between the placements of several transitions reported in the earlier studies are resolved. The newly-established negative-parity sequence at low excitation energies hints at the expected parity-doublet structures in this nucleus. The properties of the observed simplex bands are compared with that of similar bands in neighboring nuclei. Since the presence of parity-doublet structures reflect octupole correlations, theoretical calculations using reflection-asymmetric triaxial particle rotor model (RAT-PRM) have been performed. A comparison of the observed features of the simplex bands with the predictions of the RAT-PRM calculations suggests that $\mathrm{^{217}Ra}$ exhibits an intermediate the behavior between the extremes of spherical and octupole-deformed nuclei. The termination of the simplex bands at intermediate energies and the structures lying above reflect the dominance of the single-particle excitations at higher excitation energies.

The relativistic configuration-interaction density functional theory is developed for even-even and odd-odd nuclei and is used to predict the nuclear matrix element of the neutrinoless $ββ$ ($0νββ$) decay in $^{76}$Ge, amongst the most promising $ββ$-decay candidates. The spectroscopic properties of the $ββ$-decay partners $^{76}$Ge and $^{76}$Se, and the nuclear matrix element governing the two-neutrino $ββ$ ($2νββ$) decay in $^{76}$Ge are well reproduced, providing solid benchmarks for the theoretical calculations. The inclusion of the triaxial degree of freedom slightly enhances the nuclear matrix element of the $2νββ$ decay while raises that of the $0νββ$ decay significantly by a factor around two. The present results highlight the importance of nuclear triaxial deformation for a better prediction of the $0νββ$-decay nuclear matrix element.

In this work, we first analyze the correlations among different nuclear matter parameters which are obtained by the 119 effective Skyrme interaction sets. The values of the correlation coefficients illustrate that the magnitude of the effective mass splitting is crucial for the tight constraints of the symmetry energy via HICs. Thus, the main object of this work is to investigate the impacts of the effective mass splitting on the heavy ion collisions observables. The $^{86}$Kr+$^{208}$Pb system at the beam energy ranging from 25A MeV to 200A MeV are simulated within the framework of the improved quantum molecular dynamics model (ImQMD-Sky) for this goal. Our calculations show that the slopes of the spectra of $\ln$[Y(n)/Y(p)] and $\ln$[Y(t)/Y($^3$He)], which are the logarithms of the neutron to proton yield ratios and triton to Helium-3 yield ratios, are directly related to the effective mass splitting and can be used to probe the effective mass splitting.

The range of the U bosonic coupling constants in neutron star matter is a very interesting but still unsolved problem which has multifaceted influences in nuclear physics, particle physics, astrophysics and cosmology. The combination of the theoretical numerical simulation and the recent observations provides a very good opportunity to solve this problem. In the present work, the range of the U bosonic coupling constants is inferred based on the three relations of the mass-radius, mass-frequency and mass-tidal deformability in neutron star containing hyperons using the GM1, TM1 and NL3 parameter sets under the two flavor symmetries of the SU(6) and SU(3) in the framework of the relativistic mean field theory. Combined with observations from PSRs J1614-2230, J0348+0432, J2215-5135, J0952-0607, J0740+6620, J0030-0451, J1748-2446ad, XTE J1739-285, GW170817 and GW190814 events, our numerical results show that the U bosonic coupling constants may tend to be within the range from 0 to 20 GeV$^{-2}$ in neutron star containing hyperons. Moreover, the numerical results of the three relations obtained by the SU(3) symmetry are better in accordance with observation data than those obtained by the SU(6) symmetry. The results will help us to improve the strict constraints of the equation of state for neutron stars containing hyperons.

A primary goal of the upcoming Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) is to measure the $\mathcal{O}(10)$ MeV neutrinos produced by a Galactic core-collapse supernova if one should occur during the lifetime of the experiment. The liquid-argon-based detectors planned for DUNE are expected to be uniquely sensitive to the $ν_e$ component of the supernova flux, enabling a wide variety of physics and astrophysics measurements. A key requirement for a correct interpretation of these measurements is a good understanding of the energy-dependent total cross section $σ(E_ν)$ for charged-current $ν_e$ absorption on argon. In the context of a simulated extraction of supernova $ν_e$ spectral parameters from a toy analysis, we investigate the impact of $σ(E_ν)$ modeling uncertainties on DUNE's supernova neutrino physics sensitivity for the first time. We find that the currently large theoretical uncertainties on $σ(E_ν)$ must be substantially reduced before the $ν_e$ flux parameters can be extracted reliably: in the absence of external constraints, a measurement of the integrated neutrino luminosity with less than 10\% bias with DUNE requires $σ(E_ν)$ to be known to about 5%. The neutrino spectral shape parameters can be known to better than 10% for a 20% uncertainty on the cross-section scale, although they will be sensitive to uncertainties on the shape of $σ(E_ν)$. A direct measurement of low-energy $ν_e$-argon scattering would be invaluable for improving the theoretical precision to the needed level.

Based on the ultra-relativistic quantum molecular dynamics (UrQMD) model, the impacts of momentum dependent interaction, symmetry energy and near-threshold $NN\to NΔ$ cross sections on isospin sensitive collective flow and pion observables are investigated. Our results confirm that the elliptic flow of neutrons and charged particles, i.e. $v_2^n$ and $v_2^{ch}$, are sensitive to the strength of momentum dependence interaction and the elliptic flow ratio, i.e., $v_2^n/v_2^{ch}$, is sensitive to the stiffness of symmetry energy. For describing the pion multiplicity near the threshold energy, accurate $NN\to NΔ$ cross sections are crucial. With the updated momentum dependent interaction and $NN\to NΔ$ cross sections in UrQMD model, seven observables, such as directed flow and elliptic flow of neutrons and charged particles, the elliptic flow ratio of neutrons to charged particles, charged pion multiplicity and its ratio $π^-/π^+$, can be well described by the parameter sets with the slope of symmetry energy from 5 MeV to 70 MeV. To describe the constraints of symmetry energy at the densities probed by the collective flow and pion observables, the named characteristic density is investigated and used. Our analysis found that the flow characteristic density is around 1.2$ρ_0$ and pion characteristic density is around 1.5$ρ_0$, and we got the constrains of symmetry energy at characteristic densities are $S(1.2ρ_0)=34\pm 4$ MeV and $S(1.5ρ_0)=36\pm 8$ MeV. These results are consistent with previous analysis by using pion and flow observable with different transport models, and demonstrate a reasonable description of symmetry energy constraint should be presented at the characteristic density of isospin sensitive observables.

The consistency suggests that the reliable constraints on symmetry energy should be presented at the characteristic density of isospin sensitive observables. By using the constraints of symmetry energy at two different characteristic densities, the extrapolated value of $L$ is provided. Within $2σ$ uncertainty, the extrapolated value of $L$ is in $5-70$ MeV which is consistent with the recent combination analysis from PREX-II and astrophyiscs data. Further, the calculations with the constrained parameter sets can describe the data of charged pion multiplicities from S$π$RIT collaboration.

The data available are well reproduced. It is found that the superfluidity can reduce the critical frequency and make the chiral rotation easier. The mechanism is that the particle/hole alignments along the short/long axis are reduced by the pairing correlations, resulting in the enhanced preference of the collective rotation along the intermediate axis, and inducing the early appearance of the chiral rotation.

$Background:$ The determination of the nuclear neutron properties suffers from uncontrolled uncertainties, which attracted considerable attention recently, such as in the context of the PREX experiment.
$Purpose:$ Our aim is to analyze the sensitivity of charge-exchange ($p, n$) reactions to the neutron density distribution $ρ_{n}$ and constrain the neutron characteristics in the nuclear structure models.
$Method:$ By combing the folding and the mean-field models, the nucleon-nucleus ($NA$) potential can be obtained from the nuclear density distribution. Further, the ($p, p$) and ($p, n$) cross sections for $^{48}$Ca and $^{208}$Pb are calculated following the distorted-wave Born approximation (DWBA) method.
$Results:$ Compared with the ($p, p$) cross section, the effects of $ρ_{n}$ variation on the ($p, n$) cross section are significant, which is due to the impact of isovector properties. Based on the global folding model analyses of data, it is found that $^{48}$Ca and $^{208}$Pb have relatively large neutron skin thickness $ΔR_{n p}$.
$Conclusions:$ Results illustrate that the charge-exchange ($p, n$) reaction is a sensitive probe of $ρ_{n}$. The results in this paper can offer useful guides for future experiments of neutron characteristics.

Within the ultrarelativistic quantum molecular dynamics (UrQMD) model, by reverse tracing nucleons that are finally emitted at mid-rapidity (|$y_0$| < 0.1) in the entire reaction process, the time evolution of elliptic flow ($v_2$) of these traced nucleons produced in Au+Au collisions at beam energy of 0.4 GeV$/$nucleon with different impact parameters ($b$) is studied. The initial value of $v_2$ is positive and increases with $b$, then it decreases as time passes and tends to saturate at a negative value. It is found that nucleon-nucleon collisions always depress the value of $v_2$ (enhance the out-of-plane emission), while the nuclear mean field potential may slightly raise the value of $v_2$ during the expansion stage in peripheral reactions. The related density mostly probed by $v_2$ of nucleons at mid-rapidity is found to be $\sim$ 60% of the maximum density reached during the collisions.

We report a measurement of cumulants and correlation functions of event-by-event proton multiplicity distributions from fixed-target Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 3 GeV measured by the STAR experiment. Protons are identified within the rapidity ($y$) and transverse momentum ($p_{\rm T}$) region $-0.9 < y<0$ and $0.4 < p_{\rm T} <2.0 $ GeV/$c$ in the center-of-mass frame. A systematic analysis of the proton cumulants and correlation functions up to sixth-order as well as the corresponding ratios as a function of the collision centrality, $p_{\rm T}$, and $y$ are presented. The effect of pileup and initial volume fluctuations on these observables and the respective corrections are discussed in detail. The results are compared to calculations from the hadronic transport UrQMD model as well as a hydrodynamic model. In the most central 5\% collisions, the value of proton cumulant ratio $C_4/C_2$ is negative, drastically different from the values observed in Au+Au collisions at higher energies. Compared to model calculations including Lattice QCD, a hadronic transport model, and a hydrodynamic model, the strong suppression in the ratio of $C_4/C_2$ at 3 GeV Au+Au collisions indicates an energy regime dominated by hadronic interactions.

Within the ultrarelativistic quantum molecular dynamics (UrQMD) model, the effect of initial density fluctuations on cumulants of the net-proton multiplicity distribution in Au + Au Collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 7.7 GeV was investigated by varying the minimum distance $d_{\rm min}$ between two nucleons in the initialization. It was found that the initial density fluctuations increased with the decrease of $d_{\rm min}$ from 1.6 fm to 1.0 fm, and the influence of $d_{\rm min}$ on the magnitude of the net-proton number fluctuation in a narrow pseudorapidity window ($Δη\leq$ 4) was negligible even if it indeed affected the density evolution during the collision. At a broad pseudorapidity window ($Δη\geq$ 4), the cumulant ratios were enlarged when the initial density fluctuations were increased with the smaller value of $d_{\rm min}$, and this enhancement was comparable to that observed in the presence of the nuclear mean-field potential. Moreover, the enhanced cumulants were more evident in collisions with a larger impact parameter. The present work demonstrates that the fingerprint of the initial density fluctuations on the cumulants in a broad pseudorapidity window is clearly visible, while it is not obvious as the pseudorapidity window becomes narrow.

We report the triton ($t$) production in mid-rapidity ($|y| <$ 0.5) Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}}$= 7.7--200 GeV measured by the STAR experiment from the first phase of the beam energy scan at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). The nuclear compound yield ratio ($\mathrm{N}_t \times \mathrm{N}_p/\mathrm{N}_d^2$), which is predicted to be sensitive to the fluctuation of local neutron density, is observed to decrease monotonically with increasing charged-particle multiplicity ($dN_{ch}/dη$) and follows a scaling behavior. The $dN_{ch}/dη$ dependence of the yield ratio is compared to calculations from coalescence and thermal models. Enhancements in the yield ratios relative to the coalescence baseline are observed in the 0\%-10\% most central collisions at 19.6 and 27 GeV, with a significance of 2.3$σ$ and 3.4$σ$, respectively, giving a combined significance of 4.1$σ$. The enhancements are not observed in peripheral collisions or model calculations without critical fluctuation, and decreases with a smaller $p_{T}$ acceptance. The physics implications of these results on the QCD phase structure and the production mechanism of light nuclei in heavy-ion collisions are discussed.

A decisive experimental test of the Chiral Magnetic Effect (CME) is considered one of the major scientific goals at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC) towards understanding the nontrivial topological fluctuations of the Quantum Chromodynamics vacuum. In heavy-ion collisions, the CME is expected to result in a charge separation phenomenon across the reaction plane, whose strength could be strongly energy dependent. The previous CME searches have been focused on top RHIC energy collisions. In this Letter, we present a low energy search for the CME in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{\rm{NN}}}}=27$ GeV. We measure elliptic flow scaled charge-dependent correlators relative to the event planes that are defined at both mid-rapidity $|η|<1.0$ and at forward rapidity $2.1 < |η|<5.1$. We compare the results based on the directed flow plane ($Ψ_1$) at forward rapidity and the elliptic flow plane ($Ψ_2$) at both central and forward rapidity. The CME scenario is expected to result in a larger correlation relative to $Ψ_1$ than to $Ψ_2$, while a flow driven background scenario would lead to a consistent result for both event planes. In 10-50\% centrality, results using three different event planes are found to be consistent within experimental uncertainties, suggesting a flow driven background scenario dominating the measurement. We obtain an upper limit on the deviation from a flow driven background scenario at the 95\% confidence level. This work opens up a possible road map towards future CME search with the high statistics data from the RHIC Beam Energy Scan Phase-II.

Inferences of the nuclear symmetry energy from heavy-ion collisions are currently based on the comparison of measured observables and transport model simulations. Only the expectation values of observables over all considered events are used in these approaches, however, observables can be obtained event-by-event both in experiments and transport model simulations. By using the light gradient boosting machine (LightGBM), a modern machine-learning algorithm, we present a framework for inferring the density-dependent nuclear symmetry energy from observables in heavy-ion collisions on the event-by-event analysis. The ultrarelativistic quantum molecular dynamics (UrQMD) model simulations are used as training data. The symmetry energy slope parameter extracted with LightGBM event-by-event from test data also by UrQMD has an average spread of approximately 30~MeV from the truth, and is found to be robust against variations in model parameters. In addition, LightGBM can identify features that have the greatest effect on the physics of interest, thereby offering valuable insights. Our study suggests that the present framework can be a powerful tool and may offer a new paradigm to study the underlying physics in heavy-ion collisions.

The first-order nature of the chiral phase transition in QCD-like theories can play crucial roles to address a dark side of the Universe, where the created out-of equilibrium is essential to serve as cosmological and astrophysical probes such as gravitational wave productions, which have extensively been explored. This interdisciplinary physics is built based on a widely-accepted conjecture that the thermal chiral phase transition in QCD-like theories with massless (light) three flavors is of first order. We find that such a first order feature may not hold, when ordinary or dark quarks are externally coupled to a weak enough background field of photon or dark photon (which we collectively call a ``magnetic" field). We assume that a weak ``magnetic" background field could be originated from some ``magnetogenesis" in the early Universe. We work on a Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model which can describe the chiral phase transition in a wide class of QCD-like theories. We show that in the case with massless (light) three flavors, the first-order feature goes away when $2 f_π^2 \lesssim eB ( \ll (4 πf_π)^2)$, where $eB$ is the ``magnetic" field strength and $f_π$ the pion decay constant at the vacuum. This disappearance is the generic consequence of the presence of the ``magnetically" induced scale anomaly and the ``magnetic" catalysis for the chiral symmetry breaking, and would impact or constrain modeling dark QCD coupled to an external ``magnetic" field.

A negative value of the $ωN$ elastic spin-averaged scattering length is extracted, questioning the existence of bound states of the $ω$ meson in the nuclear matter.

We report on measurements of sequential $Υ$ suppression in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_\mathrm{NN}}}$ = 200 GeV with the STAR detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) through both the dielectron and dimuon decay channels. In the 0-60% centrality class, the nuclear modification factors ($R_{\mathrm{AA}}$), which quantify the level of yield suppression in heavy-ion collisions compared to $p$+$p$ collisions, for $Υ$(1S) and $Υ$(2S) are $0.40 \pm 0.03~\textrm{(stat.)} \pm 0.03~\textrm{(sys.)} \pm 0.09~\textrm{(norm.)}$ and $0.26 \pm 0.08~\textrm{(stat.)} \pm 0.02~\textrm{(sys.)} \pm 0.06~\textrm{(norm.)}$, respectively, while the upper limit of the $Υ$(3S) $R_{\mathrm{AA}}$ is 0.17 at a 95% confidence level. This provides experimental evidence that the $Υ$(3S) is significantly more suppressed than the $Υ$(1S) at RHIC. The level of suppression for $Υ$(1S) is comparable to that observed at the much higher collision energy at the Large Hadron Collider. These results point to the creation of a medium at RHIC whose temperature is sufficiently high to strongly suppress excited $Υ$ states.

Based on the universal PC-PK1 density functional, the energies of the yrast states with spin up to 20\hbar and the available B(E2) transition probabilities are well reproduced. The yrast states are predicted to be of four-quasiparticle structure above spin I = 16\hbar. The inclusion of the time-odd interactions increases the kinetic moments of inertia and delays the appearance of the first band crossing, and, thus, improves the description of the data.

A linearly polarized photon can be quantized from the Lorentz-boosted electromagnetic field of a nucleus traveling at ultra-relativistic speed. When two relativistic heavy nuclei pass one another at a distance of a few nuclear radii, the photon from one nucleus may interact through a virtual quark-antiquark pair with gluons from the other nucleus forming a short-lived vector meson (e.g. ${ρ^0}$). In this experiment, the polarization was utilized in diffractive photoproduction to observe a unique spin interference pattern in the angular distribution of ${ρ^0\rightarrowπ^+π^-}$ decays. The observed interference is a result of an overlap of two wave functions at a distance an order of magnitude larger than the ${ρ^0}$ travel distance within its lifetime. The strong-interaction nuclear radii were extracted from these diffractive interactions, and found to be $6.53\pm 0.06$ fm ($^{197} {\rm Au }$) and $7.29\pm 0.08$ fm ($^{238} {\rm U}$), larger than the nuclear charge radii. The observable is demonstrated to be sensitive to the nuclear geometry and quantum interference of non-identical particles.

Nuclear properties across the chart of nuclides are key to improving and validating our understanding of the strong interaction in nuclear physics. We present high-precision mass measurements of neutron-rich Fe isotopes performed at the TITAN facility. The multiple-reflection time-of-flight mass spectrometer (MR-ToF-MS), achieving a resolving power greater than $600\,000$ for the first time, enabled the measurement of $^{63-70}$Fe, including first-time high-precision direct measurements ($δm/m \sim 10^{-7}$) of $^{68-70}$Fe, as well as the discovery of a long-lived isomeric state in $^{69}$Fe. These measurements are accompanied by both mean-field and ab initio calculations using the most recent realizations which enable theoretical assignment of the spin-parities of the $^{69}$Fe ground and isomeric states. Together with mean-field calculations of quadrupole deformation parameters for the Fe isotope chain, these results benchmark a maximum of deformation in the $N = 40$ island of inversion in Fe, and shed light on trends in level densities indicated in the newly-refined mass surface.

The effects of the beam energy dependence of $F$ on the directed, elliptic flow and nuclear stop** in $^{197}$Au+$^{197}$Au collisions with energy ranging from $0.09$ to $0.8A$ GeV are explored. It is found that the directed, elliptic flow and nuclear stop** at relatively low energies are very sensitive to $F$, and the sensitivity gradually weakens with increasing beam energy. The beam energy dependent in-medium correction factor $F$ is deduced from the comparison of the excitation functions of the directed, elliptic flow and nuclear stop** between the calculated results and the FOPI experimental data.
