Exactly solvable pairing model for superconductors with a p+ip-wave symmetry
Abstract: We present the exact Bethe ansatz solution for the two-dimensional BCS pairing Hamiltonian with p_x + i p_y symmetry. Using both mean-field theory and the exact solution we obtain the ground-state phase diagram parameterized by the filling fraction and the coupling constant. It consists of three phases denoted weak coupling BCS, weak pairing, and strong pairing. The first two phases are separate… ▽ More

The elementary excitations of the exactly solvable Russian doll BCS model of superconductivity
Abstract: The recently proposed Russian doll BCS model provides a simple example of a many body system whose renormalization group analysis reveals the existence of limit cycles in the running coupling constants of the model. The model was first studied using RG, mean field and numerical methods showing the Russian doll scaling of the spectrum, E(n) ~ E0 exp(-l n}, where l is the RG period. In this paper… ▽ More

Exactly solvable Richardson-Gaudin models for many-body quantum systems
Abstract: The use of exactly-solvable Richardson-Gaudin (R-G) models to describe the physics of systems with strong pair correlations is reviewed. We begin with a brief discussion of Richardson's early work, which demonstrated the exact solvability of the pure pairing model, and then show how that work has evolved recently into a much richer class of exactly-solvable models. We then show how the Richardso… ▽ More

Russian Doll Renormalization Group and Superconductivity
Abstract: We show that an extension of the standard BCS Hamiltonian leads to an infinite number of condensates with different energy gaps and self-similar properties, described by a cyclic RG flow of the BCS coupling constant which returns to its original value after a finite RG time.

Large N limit of the exactly solvable BCS model: analytics versus numerics
Abstract: We have studied the numerical solutions of Richardson equations of the BCS model in the limit of large number of energy levels at half-filling, and compare them with the analytic results derived by Gaudin and Richardson, which in turn leads to the standard BCS solution. We focus on the location and density of the roots, the eigenvalues of the conserved quantities, and the scaling properties of t… ▽ More

Integrability and Conformal Symmetry in the BCS model
Abstract: The exactly solvable BCS Hamiltonian of superconductivity is considered from several viewpoints: Richardson's ansatz, conformal field theory, integrable inhomogenous vertex models and Chern-Simons theory.

Exact Study of the Effect of Level Statistics in Ultrasmall Superconducting Grains
Abstract: The reduced BCS model that is commonly used for ultrasmall superconducting grains has an exact solution worked out long ago by Richardson in the context of nuclear physics. We use it to check the quality of previous treatments of this model, and to investigate the effect of level statistics on pairing correlations. We find that the ground state energies are on average somewhat lower for systems… ▽ More

The Crossover from the Bulk to the Few-Electron limit in Ultrasmall Metallic Grains
Abstract: We study the properties of ultrasmall metallic grains with sizes in the range of 20 up to 400 electrons. Using a particle-hole version of the DMRG method we compute condensation energies, spectroscopic gaps, pairing parameters and particle-hole probabilities of the ground state wave function. The results presented in this paper confirm that the bulk superconducting regime (large grains) and the… ▽ More

A Density Matrix Renormalization Group Study of Ultrasmall Superconducting Grains
Abstract: We apply the DMRG method to the BCS pairing Hamiltonian which describes ultrasmall superconducting grains. Our version of the DMRG uses the particle (hole) states around the Fermi level as the system block (environment). We observe a smooth logarithmic-like crossover between the few electron regime and the BCS-bulk regime.
