Strong Interaction Physics at the Luminosity Frontier with 22 GeV Electrons at Jefferson Lab
Abstract: This document presents the initial scientific case for upgrading the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF) at Jefferson Lab (JLab) to 22 GeV. It is the result of a community effort, incorporating insights from a series of workshops conducted between March 2022 and April 2023. With a track record of over 25 years in delivering the world's most intense and precise multi-GeV electron… ▽ More

Three-body correlations in mesonic-atom-like systems
Abstract: Three-body correlations in three-body exotic atoms are studied with simple models that consist of three bosons interacting through a superposition of long- and short-range potentials. We discuss the correlations among particles by comparing the energy shifts given by precise three-body calculations and by the Deser-Trueman formula, in which the long- and short-range contributions are factorized. B… ▽ More

Basics of doubly heavy tetraquarks
Abstract: We outline the most important results regarding the stability of doubly heavy tetraquarks $QQ\bar q\bar q$ with an adequate treatment of the four-body dynamics. We consider both color-mixing and spin-dependent effects. Our results are straightforwardly applied to the case of all-heavy tetraquarks $QQ\bar Q\bar Q$. We conclude that the stability is favored in the limit $M_Q/m_q \gg 1$ pointing to t… ▽ More

Search for doubly-heavy dibaryons in a quark model
Abstract: We study the stability of hexaquark systems containing two heavy quarks and four light quarks within a simple quark model. No bound or metastable state is found. The reason stems on a delicate interplay between chromoelectric and chromomagnetic effects. Our calculation provides also information about anticharmed pentaquarks that are seemingly unbound in simple quark models.

Positivity domains for pairs of triples of spin observables
Abstract: Positivity restrains the allowed domains for pairs or triples of spin observables in polarised reactions. Various domain shapes in ${1\over2}+{1\over2}\to{1\over2}+{1\over2}$ reactions are displayed. Some methods to determine these domains are mentioned and a new one based on the anticommutation between two observables is presented.

Stability of multiquarks in a simple string model
Abstract: A simple string model inspired by the strong-coupling regime of Quantum ChromoDynamics is used as a potential for studying the spectrum of multiquark systems with two quarks and two antiquarks, with a careful treatment of the four-body problem. It is found that the ground state is stable, lying below the threshold for dissociation into two isolated mesons.

The antinucleon-nucleon interaction at low energy : annihilation dynamics
Abstract: The general properties of antiproton-proton annihilation at rest are presented, with special focus on the two-meson final states. The data exhibit remarkable dynamical selection rules : some allowed annihilation modes are suppressed by one order of magnitude with respect to modes of comparable phase-space. Various phenomenological analyses are reviewed, based on microscopic quark dynamics or sym… ▽ More

Recent issues in hadron spectroscopy
Abstract: A brief survey is presented of recently discovered hadrons, some of them presumably demonstrating a new kind of internal structure. This includes : spin-singlet quarkonium, mesons with unexpected mass or width, baryons with two heavy quarks, and pentaquark candidates. Flavour configurations with a combination of light and heavy quarks appear as particularly promising.

New Lower Bound on Fermion Binding Energies
Abstract: We derive a new lower bound for the ground state energy $E^{\rm F}(N,S)$ of N fermions with total spin S in terms of binding energies $E^{\rm F}(N-1,S \pm 1/2)$ of (N-1) fermions. Numerical examples are provided for some simple short-range or confining potentials.

Scalar meson exchange and the baryon spectra
Abstract: We explore the role of a scalar meson exchange interaction between quarks in a semirelativistic constituent quark model where the quarks are also subject to a linear confinement. We search for a variational solution and study how the spectrum evolves when the strength of the scalar meson exchange increases. Our results have good implications on the description of the low-lying baryon masses, esp… ▽ More

Heavy-Flavour Pentaquarks in a Chiral Constituent Quark Model
Abstract: Within the chiral constituent quark model of Glozman and Riska, we discuss the stability of heavy pentaquarks, i.e. hadrons containing four light quarks and a heavy antiquark. The spin-dependent part of the Hamiltonian is dominated by the short-range part of the Goldstone-boson-exchange interaction. We find that these systems are not bound, having an energy above the lowest dissociation threshol… ▽ More

Isospin Splittings of Baryons
Abstract: We discuss the isospin-breaking mass differences among baryons, with particular attention in the charm sector to the $Σ_c^{+}-Σ_c^0$, $Σ_c^{++}-Σ_c^0$, and $Ξ_c^+-Ξ_c^0$ splittings. Simple potential models cannot accommodate the trend of the available data on charm baryons. More precise measurements would offer the possibility of testing how well potential models describe the non-perturbative li… ▽ More

Study of Multiquarks Systems in a Chiral Quark Model
Abstract: We discuss the stability of multiquark systems within the recent model of Glozman et al. where the chromomagnetic hyperfine interaction is replaced by pseudoscalar-meson exchange contributions. In this model the (u,d) diquark S=0 I=0 is strongly bound (more than for the chromomagnetic interaction) and this leads to a bound heavy tetraquark QQ\bar q\bar q where the light quarks are in the S=0 I=0… ▽ More
