We have applied thermodynamic stability analysis to derive the stability and causality conditions for conventional relativistic viscous hydrodynamics and spin hydrodynamics. We obtain the thermodynamic stability conditions for second-order relativistic hydrodynamics with shear and bulk viscous tensors, finding them identical to those derived from linear mode analysis. We then derive the thermodynamic stability conditions for minimal causal extended second-order spin hydrodynamics in canonical form, both with and without viscous tensors. Without viscous tensors, the constraints from thermodynamic stability exactly match those from linear mode analysis. In the presence of viscous tensors, the thermodynamic stability imposes more stringent constraints than those obtained from linear mode analysis. Our results suggest that conditions derived from thermodynamic stability analysis can guarantee both causality and stability in linear mode analysis.

We present the light-quark mass dependence of the $Λ(1405)$ resonance at leading order in a renormalizable framework of covariant chiral effective field theory. The meson-baryon scattering amplitudes, which are obtained by solving the scattering equation within time-ordered perturbation theory, follow the quark mass trajectory of the Coordinated Lattice Simulations consortium. At $M_π\approx 200$ MeV and $M_K\approx 487$ MeV, our parameter-free prediction of $Λ(1405)$ poles is consistent with the recent lattice results of BaSc Collaboration [Phys. Rev. Lett. 132, 051901 (2024)]. Varying the pion mass from $135$ MeV to $400$ MeV, we present the evolution of double-pole positions of $Λ(1405)$: the higher pole remains a resonance around the $\bar{K}N$ threshold; whereas the lower pole undergoes a transition from resonance to a virtual state, and ultimately to a bound state of the $πΣ$ system, which could be verified by the forthcoming lattice QCD simulations.

The transition form factor of $f_1(1420)$ is adjusted to achieve a reasonable description of the existing L3 data. We estimate the polarized $γγ^*\to K\bar{K}^*(892)$ cross sections, which serve as predictions for the forthcoming BESIII data. We also demonstrate the possibility to model-independently extract the transition form factors of $f_1(1420)$ from the polarized cross sections.

The microscopic framework of time-dependent covariant density functional theory is applied to a systematic study of ternary quasifission in collisions of pairs of $^{238}$U nuclei. It is shown that the inclusion of octupole degree of freedom in the case of head-to-head collisions, extends the energy window in which ternary quasifission occurs, and greatly enhances the number of nucleons contained in a middle fragment. Dynamical pairing correlations, included here in the time-dependent BCS approximation, prevent the occurrence of ternary quasifission in head-to-head collisions, and have an effect on the location of the energy window in which a middle fragment is formed in tail-to-tail collisions. In the latter case, as well as for tail-to-side collisions, the formation of very heavy neutron-rich systems in certain energy intervals is predicted.

Furthermore, the $γγ\toρ^{\pm} π^{\mp}\toπ^{+}π^-π^0$ channel, which is essential for a description in the low-energy region, is investigated carefully by introducing the complete set of gauge invariant and Lorentz-covariant tensors for the $γγ\toρ^\pm π^\mp$ subprocess. Within our model, we achieve a very reasonable description of ARGUS and L3 data of the total cross section, as well as of the $π^\pmπ^0$ and $π^+π^-$ invariant mass distributions. We also predict the invariant mass distributions in the $γγ$ center-of-mass energy range from $0.8$ GeV to $2.0$ GeV, which will be studied by the forthcoming data of the BESIII collaboration.

The saddle-to-scission dynamics of the induced fission process is explored using a microscopic finite-temperature model based on time-dependent nuclear density functional theory (TDDFT), that allows to follow the evolution of local temperature along fission trajectories. Starting from a temperature that corresponds to the experimental excitation energy of the compound system, the model propagates the nucleons along isentropic paths toward scission. For the four illustrative cases of induced fission of $^{240}$Pu, $^{234}$U, $^{244}$Cm, and $^{250}$Cf, characteristic fission trajectories are considered, and the partition of the total energy into various kinetic and potential energy contributions at scission is analyzed, with special emphasis on the energy dissipated along the fission path and the prescission kinetic energy. The model is also applied to the dynamics of neck formation and rupture, characterized by the formation of few-nucleon clusters in the low-density region between the nascent fragments.

In case of hidden strangeness, the $DK\bar K$ system is studied, while in the hidden charm and no strangeness quantum numbers sector, the $ND\bar D^*$ system is investigated. In the former a meson $D$ with mass around 2900 MeV is found to be generated, while in the latter several $N^*$ and $Δ^*$ states with hidden charm are obtained with masses about $4600$ MeV. All these states constitute predictions of our model and future experimental confirmation of them would be relevant to elucidate the properties of the strong interaction in the presence of heavy quarks.

We study the nucleon-nucleon interaction up to next-to-next-to-leading order using time-ordered perturbation theory in the framework of manifestly Lorentz-invariant chiral effective field theory. We present the two-pion exchange contribution at one-loop level, which is consistent with the corresponding non-relativistic expressions in the large-nucleon-mass limit. Using the Born series truncated at one-loop order, we calculate the phase shifts and mixing angles of the partial waves with the angular momentum $l\geq 2$. Comparing with the results of non-relativistic formulation, we find an improved description of the phase shifts for some $D$ waves such as the $^3D_3$ one. For the other partial waves, both approaches show the globally similar results.

The dynamics of chiral nuclei is investigated for the first time with the time-dependent and tilted axis cranking covariant density functional theories on a three-dimensional space lattice in a microscopic and self-consistent way. The experimental energies of the two pairs of the chiral doublet bands in $^{135}$Nd are well reproduced without any adjustable parameters beyond the well-defined density functional. A novel mechanism, i.e., chiral precession, is revealed from the microscopic dynamics of the total angular momentum in the body-fixed frame, whose harmonicity is associated with a transition from the planar into aplanar rotations with the increasing spin. This provides a fully microscopic and dynamical view to understand the chiral excitations in nuclei.

The dynamics of low-energy induced fission is explored using a consistent microscopic framework that combines the time-dependent generator coordinate method (TDGCM) and time-dependent nuclear density functional theory (TDDFT). While the former presents a fully quantum mechanical approach that describes the entire fission process as an adiabatic evolution of collective degrees of freedom, the latter models the dissipative dynamics of the final stage of fission by propagating the nucleons independently toward scission and beyond. By combining the two methods, based on the same nuclear energy density functional and pairing interaction, we perform an illustrative calculation of the charge distribution of yields and total kinetic energy for induced fission of $^{240}$Pu. For the saddle-to-scission phase a set of initial points for the TDDFT evolution is selected along an iso-energy curve beyond the outer fission barrier on the deformation energy surface, and the TDGCM is used to calculate the probability that the collective wave function reaches these points at different times. Fission observables are computed with both methods and compared with available data. The relative merits of including quantum fluctuations (TDGCM) and the one-body dissipation mechanism (TDDFT) are discussed.

Effects of rotation and valence nucleons in molecular-like linear $α$-chain nuclei are analyzed using a three-dimensional lattice cranking model based on covariant density functional theory. The structure of $^{16}$C and $^{16}$Ne is investigated as a function of rotational frequency. The valence nucleons, with respect to the 3$α$ linear chain core of $^{12}$C, at low frequency occupy the $π$ molecular orbital. With increasing rotational frequency these nucleons transition from the $π$ orbital to the $σ$ molecular orbital, thus stabilizing the 3$α$ linear chain structure. It is predicted that the valence protons in $^{16}$Ne change occupation from the $π$ to the $σ$ molecular orbital at $\hbarω\approx 1.3$ MeV, a lower rotational frequency compared to $\hbarω\approx 1.7$ MeV for the valence neutrons in $^{16}$C. The same effects of valence protons are found in $^{20}$Mg, compared to the four valence neutrons in $^{20}$O. The model is also used to examine the effect of alignment of valence nucleons on the relative positions and size of the three $α$-clusters in $^{16}$C and $^{16}$Ne.

In the exothermic process of fission decay, an atomic nucleus splits into two or more independent fragments. Several aspects of nuclear fission are not properly understood, in particular the formation of the neck between the nascent fragments, and the subsequent mechanism of scission into two or more independent fragments. Using an implementation of time-dependent density functional theory, based on a relativistic energy density functional and including pairing correlations, we analyze the final phase of the process of induced fission of $^{240}$Pu, and show that the time-scale of neck formation coincides with the assembly of two $α$-like clusters (less than 1 zs = 10$^{-21}$ s). Because of its much larger binding energy, the dynamical synthesis of 4He in the neck predominates over other light clusters, e.g., $^3$H and $^6$He. At the instant of scission the neck ruptures exactly between the two $α$-like clusters, which separate because of the Coulomb repulsion and are eventually absorbed by the two emerging fragments. The newly proposed mechanism of light charged clusters formation at scission provides a natural explanation of ternary fission.

By learning the kinetic energy as a functional of the nucleon density alone, a robust and accurate orbital-free density functional for nuclei is established. Self-consistent calculations that bypass the Kohn-Sham equations provide the ground-state densities, total energies, and root-mean-square radii with a high accuracy in comparison with the Kohn-Sham solutions. No existing orbital-free density functional theory comes close to this performance for nuclei. Therefore, it provides a new promising way for future developments of nuclear energy density functionals for the whole nuclear chart.

For $K_1(1270)$ and $K_1(1400)$ we investigate different descriptions, such as a mixture of states belonging to the nonet of axial resonances, or the former one as a state originating from the vector-pseudoscalar dynamics. The ratios among the partial widths of $K^+(1460)K^-$, $K^+_1(1400)K^-$ and $K^+_1(1270)K^-$ obtained are compatible with the experimental results, reinforcing the three-body nature of $φ(2170)$. Within our formalism, we can also explain the suppressed decay of $φ(2170)$ to $K^*(892) \bar K^*(892)$, as found by the BESIII Collaboration. The filtering function is adopted to avoid the variational collapsed problem and a momentum-dependent preconditioner is introduced to promote the efficiency of the iteration. The PCG-F method is demonstrated in solving the Dirac equation with given spherical and deformed Woods-Saxon potentials. The solutions given by the inverse Hamiltonian method in 3D lattice space and the shooting method in radial coordinate space are reproduced with a high accuracy. In comparison with the existing inverse Hamiltonian method, the present PCG-F method is much faster in the convergence of the iteration, in particular for deformed potentials. It may also provide a promising way to solve the relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov equation iteratively in the future.

Time-dependent covariant density functional theory with the successful density functional PCPK1 is developed in a three-dimensional coordinate space without any symmetry restrictions, and benchmark calculations for the 16O + 16O reaction are performed systematically. The relativistic kinematics, the conservation laws of the momentum, total energy, and particle number, as well as the time-reversal invariance are examined and confirmed to be satisfied numerically. Two primary applications including the dissipation dynamics and above-barrier fusion cross sections are illustrated. The obtained results are in good agreement with the ones given by the nonrelativistic time-dependent density functional theory and the data available. This demonstrates that the newly developed time-dependent covariant density functional theory could serve as an effective approach for the future studies of nuclear dynamical processes.

The nonrelativistic reduction of the self-consistent covariant density functional theory is realized for the first time with the similarity renormalization group (SRG) method. The reduced nonrelativistic Hamiltonian and densities are calculated by solving the corresponding flow equations with a novel expansion in terms of the inverse of the Dirac effective mass. The efficiency and accuracy of this newly proposed framework have been demonstrated for several typical spherical nuclei. It is found that the exact solutions of the total energies, traces of vector and scalar densities, and the root-mean-square radii are reproduced quite well for all nuclei. This allows one to directly compare and bridge the relativistic and nonrelativistic nuclear energy density functional theories in the future.

The time-dependent covariant density functional theory in 3D lattice space has been developed and applied to investigate the microscopic dynamics of the linear-chain cluster states for carbon isotopes in the reactions $^4$He$+^8$Be and $^4$He$+^{10}$Be without any symmetry assumptions. By examining the density distribution and its time evolutions, the structure and dynamics of the linear-chain states are analyzed, and the quasiperiodic oscillations of the clusters are revealed. For $^4$He$+^8$Be, the linear-chain states evolve to a triangular configuration and then to a more compact shape. In contrast, for $^4$He$+^{10}$Be, the lifetime of the linear-chain states is much more prolonged due to the dynamical isospin effects by the valence neutrons which slow down the longitudinal oscillations of the clusters and persist the linear-chain states. The dependence of the linear chain survival time and dynamical isospin effects on impact parameters have been illustrated as well.

We calculate the lambda-nucleon scattering phase shifts and mixing angles by applying time-ordered perturbation theory to the manifestly Lorentz-invariant formulation of SU(3) baryon chiral perturbation theory. Scattering amplitudes are obtained by solving the corresponding coupled-channel integral equations that have a milder ultraviolet behavior compared to their non-relativistic analogs. This allows us to consider the removed cutoff limit in our leading-order calculations also in the $^3P_0$ and $^3P_1$ partial waves. We find that, in the framework we are using, at least some part of the higher-order contributions to the baryon-baryon potential in these channels needs to be treated nonperturbatively and demonstrate how this can be achieved in a way consistent with quantum field theoretical renormalization for the leading contact interactions. We compare our results with the ones of the non-relativistic approach and lattice QCD phase shifts obtained for non-physical pion masses.

We study baryon-baryon scattering by applying time-ordered perturbation theory to the manifestly Lorentz-invariant formulation of SU(3) baryon chiral perturbation theory. We derive the corresponding diagrammatic rules paying special attention to complications caused by momentum-dependent interactions and propagators of particles with non-zero spin. We define the effective potential as a sum of two-baryon irreducible contributions of time-ordered diagrams and derive a system of integral equations for the scattering amplitude, which provides a coupled-channel generalization of the Kadyshevsky equation. The obtained leading-order baryon-baryon potentials are perturbatively renormalizable, and the corresponding integral equations have unique solutions in all partial waves. We discuss the issue of additional finite subtractions required to improve the ultraviolet convergence of (finite) loop integrals on the example of nucleon-nucleon scattering in the $^3P_0$ partial wave. Assuming that corrections beyond leading order can be treated perturbatively, we obtain a fully renormalizable formalism which can be employed to study baryon-baryon scattering.

With the motivation of determining its further properties, which can be observed in experiments, we now present a calculation of the decay processes of this $K^*$, namely $K^*(4307)$, to two-body channels. Particularly, we consider the decay channels $J/ψK^*(892)$, $\bar{D}D_s$, $\bar{D}D_s^*$ and $\bar{D}^* D_s^*$. The mechanisms of the decay to these channels involve triangular loops and are a consequence of the internal structure of the state. Thus, the values found for the decay widths of the proposed $K^*(4307)$ are related to its nature and should be valuable for carrying on an experimental study of the $K^*(4307)$. A $K^*$ state with such a mass (in the charmonium region) and quantum numbers is a clear manifestation of an exotic meson, since, having hidden charm (i.e., a $c\bar c$ pair), its mass and quantum numbers can not be explained within a quark-antiquark description.

We perform the first combined study of the pion-nucleon and kaon-nucleon scattering data in covariant BChPT and show that it can provide a reasonable description of the experimental data. In addition, we find that it is possible to fit the experimental baryon masses and the pion-nucleon and kaon-nucleon scattering data simultaneously at this order, thus providing a consistent check on covariant BChPT. We compare the scattering lengths of all the pertinent channels with available experimental data and those of other approaches. Brueckner-Hartree-Fock theory allows to derive the $G$-matrix as an effective interaction between nucleons in the nuclear medium. It depends on the center of mass momentum $\bm{P}$ of the two particles and on the two relative momenta $\bm{q}$ and $\bm{q'}$ before and after the scattering process. In the evaluation of the total energy per particle in nuclear matter usually the angle averaged center of mass momentum approximation has been used. We derive in detail the exact expressions of the angular integrations of the momentum $\bm{P}$ within relativistic Brueckner-Hartree-Fock (RBHF) theory, especially for the case of asymmetric nuclear matter. In order to assess the reliability of the conventional average momentum approximation for the binding energy, the saturation properties of symmetric and asymmetric nuclear matter are systematically investigated based on the realistic Bonn nucleon-nucleon potential. It is found that the exact treatment of the center of mass momentum leads to non-negligible contributions to the higher order physical quantities. The correlation between the symmetry energy $E_{\mathrm{sym}}$, the slope parameter $L$, and the curvature $K_{\mathrm{sym}}$ of the symmetry energy are investigated. The results of our RBHF calculations for the bulk parameters characterizing the equation of state are compared with recent constraints extracted from giant monopole resonance and isospin diffusion experiments.

The stability of the linear chain structure of three $α$ clusters for $^{12}$C against the bending and fission is investigated in the cranking covariant density functional theory, in which the equation of motion is solved on a 3D lattice with the inverse Hamiltonian and the Fourier spectral methods. Starting from a twisted three $α$ initial configuration, it is found that the linear chain structure is stable when the rotational frequency is within the range of $\sim$2.0 MeV to $\sim$2.5 MeV. Beyond this range, the final states are not stable against fission. By examining the density distributions and the occupation of single-particle levels, however, these fissions are found to arise from the occupation of unphysical continuum with large angular momenta. To properly remove these unphysical continuum, a dam** function for the cranking term is introduced. Eventually, the stable linear chain structure could survive up to the rotational frequency $\sim$3.5 MeV, but the fission still occurs when the rotational frequency approaches to $\sim$4.0 MeV.

The relevant unknown low energy constants are fixed by fitting to the nucleon-nucleon and hyperon-nucleon scattering data. It is shown that these interactions can describe the scattering data with a quality similar to their next-to-leading order non-relativistic counterparts. Recently, a relativistic chiral nucleon-nucleon interaction is formulated up to leading order which provides a good description of the phase shifts of $J\leq1$ partial waves [Chin. Phys. C 42 (2018) 014103]. Nevertheless, a separable regulator function that is not manifestily covariant was used in solving the relativistic scattering equation. In the present work, we first propose a covariant and separable form factor to regularize the kernel potential and then apply it to study the simplest but most challenging $^1S_0$ channel which features several low-energy scales. In addition to being self-consistent, we show that the resulting relativistic potential can describe quite well the unique features of the $^1S_0$ channel at leading order, in particular the pole position of the virtual bound state and the zero amplitude at the scattering momentum $\sim 340$ MeV, indicating that the relativistic formulation might be more natural from the point of view of effective field theories.

Abstract:
We report on the recent studies of leading order baryon-baryon interactions in covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory. In the strangeness $S=0$ sector, one can achieve a rather good description of the Nijmegen $np$ phase shifts with angular momenta $J\leq 1$, particularly the $^1S_0$ and $^3P_0$ partial waves, comparable with the next-to-leading order (NLO) heavy baryon approach. Abstract:
The $Λ_c(2590) Σ_c$ system can exchange a pion near the mass-shell. Owing to the opposite intrinsic parity of the $Λ_c(2590)$ and $Σ_c$, the pion is exchanged in S-wave. This gives rise to a Coulomb-like force that might be able to bind the system. If one takes into account that the pion is not exactly on the mass shell, there is a shallow S-wave state, which we generically call the $Y_{cc}(5045)$ and $Y_{c\bar c}(5045)$ for the $Λ_c(2590) Σ_c$ and $Λ_c(2590) \barΣ_c$ systems respectively. For the baryon-antibaryon case this Coulomb-like force is independent of spin: the $Y_{c\bar c}(5045)$ baryonia will appear either in the spin $S=0$ or $S=1$ configurations with G-parities $G=(-1)^{L+S+1}$. For the baryon-baryon case the Coulomb-like force is attractive in the spin $S=0$ configuration, for which a doubly charmed molecule is expected to form near the threshold. This type of spectrum might be very well realized in other molecular states composed of two opposite parity hadrons with the same spin and a mass difference close to that of a pseudo-Goldstone boson, of which a few examples include the $Λ(1405) N$, $Λ(1520) Σ^*$, $Ξ(1690) Σ$, $D_{s0}^*(2317) D$ and $D_{s1}^*(2460) D^*$ molecules.

A quite satisfactory description of the 36 hyperon-nucleon scattering data is obtained with $χ^2\simeq 17$, which is comparable with the next-to-leading order heavy baryon approach. The results hint at a more efficient way to construct the chiral potentials.

A new method to solve the Dirac equation on a 3D lattice is proposed, in which the variational collapse problem is avoided by the inverse Hamiltonian method and the fermion doubling problem is avoided by performing spatial derivatives in momentum space with the help of the discrete Fourier transform, i.e., the spectral method. This method is demonstrated in solving the Dirac equation for a given spherical potential in 3D lattice space. In comparison with the results obtained by the shooting method, the differences in single particle energy are smaller than $10^{-4}$~MeV, and the densities are almost identical, which demonstrates the high accuracy of the present method. The results obtained by applying this method without any modification to solve the Dirac equations for an axial deformed, non-axial deformed, and octupole deformed potential are provided and discussed.

At leading order, Lorentz invariance introduces 12 low energy constants, in contrast to the heavy baryon approach, where only five appear. The Kadyshevsky equation is adopted to resum the potential in order to account for the non-perturbative nature of hyperon-nucleon interactions. A fit to the $36$ hyperon-nucleon scattering data points yields $χ^2\simeq 16$, which is comparable with the sophisticated phenomenological models and the next-to-leading order heavy baryon approach. However, one cannot achieve a simultaneous description of the nucleon-nucleon phase shifts and strangeness $S=-1$ hyperon-nucleon scattering data at leading order.

Motivated by the successes of relativistic theories in studies of atomic/molecular and nuclear systems and the need for a relativistic chiral force in relativistic nuclear structure studies, we explore a new relativistic scheme to construct the nucleon-nucleon interaction in the framework of covariant chiral effective field theory. The chiral interaction is formulated up to leading order with covariant power counting and a Lorentz invariant chiral Lagrangian. We find that the relativistic scheme induces all six spin operators needed to describe the nuclear force. A detailed investigation of the partial wave potentials shows a better description of the $^1S_0$ and $^3P_0$ phase shifts than the leading order Weinberg approach, and similar to that of the next-to-leading order Weinberg approach. For the other partial waves with angular momenta $J\geq 1$, the relativistic results are almost the same as their leading order non-relativistic counterparts.

The validity of the $19$ low-energy constants appearing in the octet baryon masses up to next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order~\cite{Ren:2014vea} is supported by comparing the effective parameters (the combinations of the $19$ couplings) with the corresponding low-energy constants in the SU(2) sector~\cite{Alvarez-Ruso:2013fza}. In addition, it is shown that the dependence of the effective parameters and the pion-nucleon sigma term on the strange quark mass is relatively weak around its physical value, thus providing support to the assumption made in Ref.~\cite{Alvarez-Ruso:2013fza}.

In this exploratory work, we follow the covariant framework developed by Epelbaum and Gegelia to calculate the $YN$ scattering amplitude at leading order. By fitting the five low-energy constants to the experimental data, we find that the cutoff dependence is mitigated, compared with the heavy-baryon approach. Nevertheless, the description of the experimental data remains quantitatively similar at leading order.

We report on a recent study of the ground-state octet baryon masses and sigma terms in covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory with the extended-on-mass-shell scheme up to next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order. To take into account lattice QCD artifacts, the finite-volume corrections and finite lattice spacing discretization effects are carefully examined. We performed a simultaneous fit of all the $n_f = 2+1$ lattice octet baryon masses and found that the various lattice simulations are consistent with each other. Although the finite lattice spacing discretization effects up to $\mathcal{O}(a^2)$ can be safely ignored, but the finite volume corrections cannot even for configurations with $M_φL>4$. As an application, we predicted the octet baryon sigma terms using the Feynman-Hellmann theorem. In particular, the pion- and strangeness-nucleon sigma terms are found to be $σ_{πN} = 55(1)(4)$ MeV and $σ_{sN} = 27(27)(4)$ MeV, respectively.
