We implemented symbolic regression techniques to identify suitable analytical functions that map various properties of neutron stars (NSs), obtained by solving the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff (TOV) equations, to a few key parameters of the equation of state (EoS). These symbolic regression models (SRMs) are then employed to perform Bayesian inference with a comprehensive dataset from nuclear physics experiments and astrophysical observations. The posterior distributions of EoS parameters obtained from Bayesian inference using SRMs closely match those obtained directly from the solutions of TOV equations. Our SRM-based approach is approximately 100 times faster, enabling efficient Bayesian analyses across different combinations of data to explore their sensitivity to various EoS parameters within a reasonably short time.

The density dependence of the symmetry energy in relativistic mean-field models with density dependent couplings is discussed in terms of the possible opening of nucleonic direct Urca processes inside neutron stars, which induce a very rapid cooling of the star. The modification of the parametrization of the isospin channel of two models, DD2 and DDMEX, kee** the same isoscalar properties is considered and the implications are discussed. Within the models discussed it is not possible the onset of nucleonic direct Urca processes in stars with a mass below $\sim1.6-1.8\, M_\odot$. The lowest masses that allow direct Urca processes are associated to a slope of the symmetry energy $\sim60$ MeV and a symmetry energy incompressibility close to zero. It is shown that the parametrization of the isospin channel proposed destroys the correlation between symmetry energy slope and incompressibility previously identified in several works.

We propose a Bayesian inference estimation of in-medium modification of the cluster self-energies from light nuclei multiplicities measured in selected samples of central $^{136,124}$Xe$+^{124,112}$Sn collisions with the INDRA apparatus. The data are interpreted with a relativistic quasi-particle cluster approach in the mean-field approximation without any prior assumption on the thermal parameters of the model. An excellent reproduction is obtained for H and He isotope multiplicities, and compatible posterior distributions are found for the unknown thermal parameters.
We conclude that the cluster-$σ$-meson coupling is temperature dependent, becoming weaker when the temperature increases, in agreement with microscopic quantum statistical calculations. This implies a faster decrease of the light cluster abundances with temperature than previously estimated.

The composition of the core of neutron stars is still under debate. One possibility is that because of the high densities reached in their cores, matter could be deconfined into quark matter. The possible existence of hybrid stars is investigated using microscopic models to describe the different phases of matter. Within these microscopic models we aim at calculating the properties of neutron stars and matter. We want to probe the influence of pQCD calculations and analyze the properties that identify a transition to deconfined matter. A Bayesian approach using a Markov Chain Monte Carlo sampling process is applied to generate 8 sets of equations of state. A Maxwell construction describes the deconfinement transition. For the hadronic phase, we consider a stiff and a soft EOS obtained from the Relativistic Mean Field model with non-linear meson terms. For the quark phase, we use two different models: the NJL model with multiquark interactions and the Mean Field Theory of QCD, similar to the MIT bag model with a vector term. The model parameters were determined by Bayesian inference imposing observations from NICER and the phase transition density range. We have also applied restrictions from the pQCD calculations. Hybrid stars are compatible with current observational data. The restrictions of pQCD reduce the value of the maximum mass. However, even when applying this restriction, the models were able to reach 2.1 to 2.3 solar masses. The conformal limit was not attained at the center of the most massive stars. The vector interactions are essential to describe hybrid stars with a mass above two solar masses. The multiquark interactions affect the limits of some quantities considered as indicators of the presence of a deconfined phase. It is possible to find a set of EOS, that predict that inside NS the renormalized matter trace anomaly is always positive.

We investigate how vector and isovector interactions can be determined within the density regime of neutron stars, while fulfilling nuclear and astrophysics constrains. We make use of the Chiral Mean Field (CMF) model, a SU(3) nonlinear realization of the sigma model within the mean-field approximation, for the first time within a Bayesian analysis framework. We show that neutron-matter $χ$EFT constraints at low density are only satisfied if the vector-isovector mixed interaction term is included, e.g., a $ω^2ρ^2$ term. We also show the behavior of the model with respect to the conformal limit. We demonstrate that the CMF model is able to predict a value for the parameter $d_c$ related to the trace anomaly and its derivative takes values below 0.2 above four times saturation density within a hadronic model that does not include a phase transition to deconfined matter. We compare these effects with results from other (non-chiral) Relativistic Mean Field models to assess how different approaches to incorporating the same physical constraints affect predictions of neutron-star properties and dense matter equations of state. We also include data from the gravitation wave event GW230529 detected by the LIGO-Virgo-Kagra collaboration and the most recent radius measurement of PSR J0437-4715 from the NASA NICER mission. Our analysis reveals that this new NICER measurement leads to an average reduction of approximately $\sim 0.15$ km radius in the posterior of the neutron-star mass-radius relationship.

We investigate the intricate relationships between the non-radial \(f\) mode oscillation frequencies of neutron stars (NS)s and the corresponding nuclear matter equation of state (EOS) using a machine learning (ML) approach within the ambit of the relativistic mean field (RMF) framework for nuclear matter. With two distinct parameterizations of the Walecka model, namely, (1) with non-linear self interactions of the scalar field (NL) and, (2) a density dependent Bayesian model (DDB), we perform a thorough examination of the \(f\) mode frequency in relation to various nuclear saturation properties. The correlations between the \(f\) mode frequencies and nuclear saturation properties reveal, through various analytical and ML methods, the complex nature of NSs and their potential as the cosmic laboratory for studying extreme states of matter. A principal component analysis (PCA) has been performed using mixed datasets from DDB and NL models to discriminate the relative importance of the different components of the EOS on the $f$ mode frequencies. Additionally, a {\it Random forest feature importance} analysis also elucidates the distinct roles of these properties in determining the \(f\) mode frequency across a spectrum of NS masses. Our findings are further supported by symbolic regression searches, yielding high-accuracy relations with strong Pearson coefficients and minimal errors. These relations suggest new methodologies for probing NS core characteristics, such as energy density, pressure, and speed of sound from observations of non-radial \(f\) mode oscillations of NSs.

Recently, in Malik23, a dataset of several EoS for purely nucleonic stellar matter based on a non-linear RMF model prescription, and constrained to properties of nuclear matter, to state-of-the-art chiral effective field theory calculations for low-density neutron matter, and to astrophysical data, were proposed. In this work, twenty one unified neutron star EoS were chosen from that dataset, in such a way that a large range of values of the slope of the symmetry energy at saturation is covered. Several quantities are calculated and discussed, such as the the proton fraction and the direct Urca behavior, the density dependence of the speed of sound and the trace anomaly, the crust-core transition properties, the compatibility with astrophysical observations, and the neutron matter properties from $χ$EFT calculations and pQCD constraints. We construct unified EoS, where the outer crust is given by the BSk22 functional, and the inner crust is calculated from a CLD approximation. The core is purely nucleonic, made of protons, neutrons, electrons and muons, under charge neutrality and in $β-$equilibrium conditions. The correlation of the slope of the symmetry energy at saturation with the crust-core transition density and proton fraction is analysed, and equations that translate these relations are proposed. Moreover, the spectral representation for all the EOS according to the format proposed in Lindblom10 is given, which is a convenient representation to study quasi-periodic oscillations with realistic EOS. It is shown that several of these EoS have in the center of the most massive NS a speed of sound squared of the order of $\lesssim 0.5$. Most of the EoS predict a maximum central density of the order of about 6 times the nuclear saturation density. Three of the EoS satisfy all of the constraints imposed. All these EoS will be made available in the CompOSE platform.

In recent years, researchers have become increasingly interested in understanding how dark matter affects neutron stars, hel** them to better understand complex astrophysical phenomena. In this paper, we delve deeper into this problem by using advanced machine learning techniques to find potential connections between dark matter and various neutron star characteristics. We employ Random Forest classifiers to analyze neutron star (NS) properties and investigate whether these stars exhibit characteristics indicative of dark matter admixture. Our dataset includes 32,000 sequences of simulated NS properties, each described by mass, radius, and tidal deformability, inferred using recent observations and theoretical models. We explore a two-fluid model for the NS, incorporating separate equations of state for nucleonic and dark matter, with the latter considering a fermionic dark matter scenario. Our classifiers are trained and validated in a variety of feature sets, including the tidal deformability for various masses. Based on confusion matrices, these classifiers can identify NS with admixed dark matter with approximately 17% probability of misclassification. In particular, we find that additional tidal deformability data do not significantly improve the precision of our predictions. This article also delves into the potential of specific NS properties as indicators of the presence of dark matter. Radius measurements, especially at extreme mass values, emerge as particularly promising features. The insights gained from our study will guide future observational strategies and enhance dark matter detection capabilities. According to this study, neutron stars at 1.4 and 2.07 solar masses have radii that strongly suggest dark matter in neutron stars more likely than just hadronic composition, based on NICER data from pulsars PSR J0030+0451 and PSR J0740+6620.

The equations of state (EoSs) governing neutron star (NS) matter obtained for both non-relativistic and relativistic mean-field models are systematically confronted with a diverse set of terrestrial data and astrophysical observations within the Bayesian framework. The terrestrial data, spans from bulk properties of finite nuclei to the heavy-ion collisions, constrain the symmetric nuclear matter EoS and the symmetry energy up to twice the saturation density ($ρ_0$= 0.16 fm$^{-3}$). The astrophysical observations encompass the NS radius, the tidal deformability, and the lower bound on maximum mass. Three distinct posterior distributions of EoSs are generated by gradually updating the priors with different constraints: (i) only the maximum NS mass, (ii) incorporating additional terrestrial data, (iii) combining both the terrestrial data and astrophysical observations. These EoS distributions are then compared using the Kullback-Liebler divergence which highlights the significant constraints imposed on the EoSs by the currently available lower bound of NS maximum mass and terrestrial data. The remaining astrophysical observations marginally refine the EoS within the density range $\sim$ 2-3$ρ_0$. It is observed that the relativistic mean field model yields stiffer EoS around the saturation density, but predict smaller values of the speed of sound and proton fraction in the interior of massive stars.

We study quasinormal $f-$mode oscillations in neutron star(NS) interiors within the linearized General Relativistic formalism. We utilize approximately 9000 nuclear Equations of State (EOS) using spectral representation techniques, incorporating constraints on nuclear saturation properties, chiral Effective Field Theory ($χ$EFT) for pure neutron matter, and perturbative Quantum Chromodynamics (pQCD) for densities pertinent to NS cores. The median values of f-mode frequency, $ν_f$ (dam** time, $τ_f$) for NS with masses ranging from 1.4 - 2.0 $M_\odot$ lie between 1.80 - 2.20 kHz (0.13 - 0.22 s) for our entire EOS set. Our study reveals a weak correlation between $f-$mode frequencies and individual nuclear saturation properties, prompting the necessity for more intricate methodologies to unveil multi-parameter relationships. We observe a robust linear relationship between the radii and $f-$mode frequencies for different NS masses. Leveraging this correlation alongside NICER observations of PSR J0740+6620 and PSR J0030+0451, we establish constraints that exhibit partial and minimal overlap for observational data from Riley et al. and Miller et al. respectively with our nucleonic EOS dataset. Moreover, NICER data aligns closely with radius and frequency values for a few hadron-quark hybrid EOS models. This indicates the need to consider additional exotic particles such as deconfined quarks at suprasaturation densities. We conclude that future observations of the radius or $f-$mode frequency for more than one NS mass, particularly at the extremes of viable NS mass scale, would either rule out nucleon-only EOS or provide definitive evidence in its favour.

The current observational properties of neutron stars have not definitively ruled out the possibility of dark matter. In this study, we primarily focus on exploring correlations between the dark matter model parameters and different neutron star properties using a rich set of EOSs. We adopt a two-fluid approach to calculate the properties of neutron stars. For the nuclear matter EOS, we employ several realistic EOS derived from the relativistic mean field model (RMF), each exhibiting varying stiffness and composition. In parallel, we look into the dark matter EOS, considering fermionic matter with repulsive interaction described by a relativistic mean field Lagrangian. A reasonable range of parameters is sampled meticulously. Interestingly, our results reveal a promising correlation between the dark matter model parameters and stellar properties, particularly when we ignore the uncertainties in the nuclear matter EOS. However, when introducing uncertainties in the nuclear sector, the correlation weakens, suggesting that the task of conclusively constraining any particular dark matter model might be challenging using global properties alone, such as mass, radius, and tidal deformability. Notably, we find that dark-matter admixed stars tend to have higher central baryonic density, potentially allowing for non-nucleonic degrees of freedom or direct Urca processes in stars with lower masses. There is also a tantalizing hint regarding the detection of stars with the same mass but different surface temperatures, which may indicate the presence of dark matter. With our robust and extensive dataset, we delve deeper and demonstrate that even in the presence of dark matter, the semi-universal C-Love relation remains intact.

The non-radial oscillations of the neutron stars (NSs) have been suggested as a useful tool to probe the composition of neutron star matter (NSM). With this scope in mind, we consider a large number of equations of states (EOSs) that are consistent with nuclear matter properties and pure neutron matter EOS based on a chiral effective field theory (chEFT) calculation for the low densities and perturbative QCD EOS at very high densities. This ensemble of EOSs is also consistent with astronomical observations, gravitational waves in GW170817, mass and radius measurements from Neutron star Interior Composition ExploreR (NICER). We analyze the robustness of known universal relations (URs) among the quadrupolar $f$ mode frequencies, masses and radii with such a large number of EOSs and we find a new UR that results from a strong correlation between the $f$ mode frequencies and the radii of NSs. Such a correlation is very useful in accurately determining the radius from a measurement of $f$ mode frequencies in the near future. We also show that the quadrupolar $f$ mode frequencies of NS of masses 2.0 M$_\odot$ and above lie in the range $\sim$ 2-3 kHz in this ensemble of physically realistic EOSs. A NS of mass 2M$_{\odot}$ with a low $f$ mode frequency may indicate the existence of non-nucleonic degrees of freedom.

We exploit the great potential offered by Bayesian Neural Networks (BNNs) to directly decipher the internal composition of neutron stars (NSs) based on their macroscopic properties. By analyzing a set of simulated observations, namely NS radius and tidal deformability, we leverage BNNs as effective tools for inferring the proton fraction and sound speed within NS interiors. To achieve this, several BNNs models were developed upon a dataset of $\sim$ 25K nuclear EoS within a relativistic mean-field framework, obtained through Bayesian inference that adheres to minimal low-density constraints. Unlike conventional neural networks, BNNs possess an exceptional quality: they provide a prediction uncertainty measure. To simulate the inherent imperfections present in real-world observations, we have generated four distinct training and testing datasets that replicate specific observational uncertainties. Our initial results demonstrate that BNNs successfully recover the composition with reasonable levels of uncertainty. Furthermore, using mock data prepared with the DD2, a different class of relativistic mean-field model utilized during training, the BNN model effectively retrieves the proton fraction and speed of sound for neutron star matter.

With an effective chiral model, we investigate how the mesonic cross couplings $σ-ρ$ and $ω-ρ$ affect the density content of the symmetry energy and its higher-order slope parameters. Earlier mentioned cross-couplings are crucial to controlling the density content of symmetry energy. For this purpose, we did a case study for different values of the symmetry energy $J_1$, defined at density 0.1 fm$^{-3}$ in the range (23.4 - 25.2) for a fixed value of the slope of the symmetry energy $L_0 = 60$ MeV at saturation density and investigate its effect on the higher-order coefficients and their influence on the underlying equation of state. We found that the model with $J_1= 24.6$ MeV is more favorable with the pure neutron matter (PNM) constraints obtained from $χ$EFT calculations. In addition, we show that all of our models predict a monotonically increasing speed of sound up to four times the saturation density. The speed of sound decreases/saturates above that point and approaches the conformal limit approximately $\sqrt{1/3}~c$ at the center of the maximum mass star.

The high-density behavior of nuclear matter is analyzed within a relativistic mean-field description with non-linear meson interactions. To assess the model parameters and their output, a Bayesian inference technique is used. The Bayesian setup is limited only by a few nuclear saturation properties, the neutron star maximum mass larger than 2 M$_\odot$, and the low-density pure neutron matter equation of state (EOS) produced by an accurate N$^3$LO calculation in chiral effective field theory. Depending on the strength of the non-linear scalar vector field contribution, we have found three distinct classes of EOSs, each one correlated to different star properties distributions. If the non-linear vector field contribution is absent, the gravitational maximum mass and the sound velocity at high densities are the greatest. However, it also gives the smallest speed of sound at densities below three times saturation density. On the other hand, models with the strongest non-linear vector field contribution predict the largest radii and tidal deformabilities for 1.4 M$_\odot$ stars, together with the smallest mass for the onset of the nucleonic direct Urca processes and the smallest central baryonic densities for the maximum mass configuration. These models have the largest speed of sound below three times saturation density, but the smallest at high densities, in particular, above four times saturation density the speed of sound decreases approaching approximately $\sqrt{0.4}c$ at the center of the maximum mass star. On the contrary, a weak non-linear vector contribution gives a monotonically increasing speed of sound. A 2.75 M$_\odot$ NS maximum mass was obtained in the tail of the posterior with a weak non-linear vector field interaction. We found that pQCD favors models with a large non-linear vector field contribution or hyperons.

The difficulty in describing the equation of state (EoS) for nuclear matter at densities above the saturation density ($ρ_0$) has led to the emergence of a multitude of models based on different assumptions and techniques. These EoSs, when used to describe a neutron star (NS), lead to differing values of observables. An outstanding goal in astrophysics is to constrain the dense matter EoS by exploiting astrophysical and gravitational wave measurements. Nuclear matter parameters appear as Taylor coefficients in the expansion of the EoS around the saturation density of symmetric and asymmetric nuclear matter and provide a physically-motivated representation of the EoS. In this paper, we introduce a deep learning-based methodology to predict key neutron stars observables such as the NS mass, NS radius, and tidal deformability from a set of nuclear matter parameters. Using generated mock data, we confirm that the neural network model is able to accurately capture the underlying physics of finite nuclei and replicate inter-correlations between the symmetry energy slope, its curvature, and the tidal deformability arising from a set of physical constraints. We also test our network with mock data generated by a different class of physics model, which was not part of the training, to explore the limitations of model dependency in the results. We also study the validity of our trained model using Bayesian inference and show that the performance of our model is on par with physics-based models with the added benefit of much lower computational cost.

These equations of state fulfill experimental and microscopic constraints, and are also able to reproduce two solar-mass stars. We integrate the TOV equations to obtain the mass-radius relation, and we also calculate the tidal deformability, compactness, and effective tidal deformability to compare with the latest astrophysical data from NICER and LIGO and Virgo.

An ambitious goal of the astrophysical community is not only to constrain the equation of state (EOS) of neutron star (NS) matter by confronting it with astrophysics observations, but ultimately also to infer the NS composition. Nevertheless, the composition of the NS core is likely to remain uncertain unless we have an accurate determination of the nuclear symmetry energy at supra saturation density ($ρ>ρ_0$). We investigate how the nucleonic direct Urca (dUrca) processes can be used as an effective probe to constraint the high density nuclear symmetry energy. A large number of minimally constrained EOSs has been constructed by applying a Bayesian approach to study the correlations of the symmetry energy at different densities with a few selected properties of a NS. The nuclear symmetry energy above the baryon density 0.5 fm$^{-3}$ ($\sim 3 ρ_0$) is found to be strongly correlated with NS mass at which the onset of nucleonic dUrca neutrino cooling takes place in the core. This allows us to constrain the high density behavior of nuclear symmetry energy within narrow bounds. {The pure neutron matter pressure constraint from chiral effective field theory rules out the onset of nucleonic dUrca in stars with a mass $\lesssim$ 1.4 $M_\odot$.} The onset of dUrca inside 1.6 M$_\odot$ to 1.8 M$_\odot$ NS implies a slope of the symmetry energy $L$ at $\sim 2.5~ρ_0$, respectively, between 54 and 48 MeV.

The possible signatures of the presence of hyperons inside neutron stars are discussed within a Bayesian inference framework applied to a set of models based on a density-dependent relativistic mean-field description of hadronic matter. Nuclear matter properties, hypernuclei properties, and observational information are used to constrain the models. General properties of neutron stars such as the maximum mass, radius, tidal deformability, proton fraction, hyperon fraction, and speed of sound are discussed. It is shown that the two solar mass constraint imposes that neutron stars described by equations of state that include hyperons have on average a larger radius, $\gtrsim 0.5$km, and a larger tidal deformability, $\gtrsim 150$, than the stars determined from a nucleonic equation of state, while the speed of sound at the center of the star is more than 25\% smaller. If a 1.4 M$_\odot$ star with a radius $\lesssim 12.5$ km is measured it is quite improbable that a massive star described by the same model contains hyperons. A similar conclusion is drawn if a two solar mass star with a radius $\lesssim 11.5$ km or a neutron star with a mass above 2.2 M$_\odot$ is observed: the possible hyperon content of these stars is ruled out or very reduced. The hyperon presence inside neutron stars is compatible with the present NICER mass-radius observations of the pulsars PSR J0030+0451 and PSR J0740+6620 and the gravitational wave detection GW170817. {It is shown that if the polytropic index $γ=\partial\ln p/\partial\lnε$ takes values of the order of 1.75 at not too large densities, it may indicate the onset of some kind of exotic matter, but not necessarily of deconfined quark matter.

We apply Bayesian approach to construct a large number of minimally constrained equations of state (EOSs) and study their correlations with a few selected properties of a neutron star (NS). Our set of minimal constraints includes a few basic properties of saturated nuclear matter and low-density pure neutron matter EOS which is obtained from a precise next-to-next-to-next-to-leading-order (N$^{3}$LO) calculation in chiral effective field theory. The tidal deformability and radius of NS with mass $1-2 M_\odot$ are found to be strongly correlated with the pressure of $β$-equilibrated matter at densities higher than the saturation density ($ρ_0 = 0.16$ fm$^{-3}$) in a nearly model-independent manner. These correlations are employed to parametrize the pressure for $β$-equilibrated matter, around 2$ρ_0$, as a function of neutron star mass and the corresponding tidal deformability. The maximum mass of neutron star is also found to be strongly correlated with the pressure of $β$-equilibrated matter at densities $\sim 4.5ρ_0$.

The general behavior of the nuclear equation of state (EOS), relevant for the description of neutron stars (NS), is studied within a Bayesian approach applied to a set of models based on a density dependent relativistic mean field description of nuclear matter. The EOS is subjected to a minimal number of constraints based on nuclear saturation properties and the low density pure neutron matter EOS obtained from a precise next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (N$^{3}$LO) calculation in chiral effective field theory ($χ$EFT). The posterior distributions of the model parameters obtained under these minimal constraints are employed to construct the distributions of various nuclear matter properties and NS properties such as radii, tidal deformabilites, central energy densities and speeds of sound etc. We found that 90% confidence interval (CI) for allowed NS mass - radius relationship and tidal deformabilites are compatible with GW170817 and recent NICER observations, without invoking the exotic degrees of freedom. A central speed-of-sound of the order of $\sqrt{2/3}$ $c$ is obtained. The maximum neutron star mass allowed by the model is 2.5 $M_\odot$.

The nuclear matter parameters (NMPs), those underlie in the construction of the equation of state (EoS) of neutron star matter, are not directly accessible. The Bayesian approach is applied to reconstruct the posterior distributions of NMPs from the EoS of neutron star matter. The constraints on lower-order parameters as imposed by the finite nuclei observables are incorporated through appropriately chosen prior distributions. The calculations are performed with two sets of pseudo data on the EoS whose true models are known. The median values of second or higher order NMPs show sizeable deviations from their true values and associated uncertainties are also larger. The sources of these uncertainties are intrinsic in nature, identified as (i) the correlations among various NMPs and (ii) the variations in the EoS of symmetric nuclear matter, symmetry energy, and the neutron-proton asymmetry in such a way that the neutron star matter EoS remain almost unaffected.

We study the possibility of the existence of a deconfined quark matter in the core of neutron star (NS)s and its relation to non-radial oscillation modes in NSs and hybrid star (HS)s. We use relativistic mean field (RMF) models to describe the nuclear matter at low densities and zero temperature. The Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model is used to describe the quark matter at high densities and zero temperature. A Gibbs construct is used to describe the hadron-quark phase transition (HQPT) at large densities. Within the model, as the density increases, a mixed phase (MP) appears at density about $2.5$ times the nuclear matter saturation density $(ρ_0)$ and ends at density about $5 ρ_0$ beyond which the pure quark matter phase appears. It turns out that a stable HS of maximum mass, $M=2.27 M_{\odot}$ with radius $R=14$ km (for NL3 parameterisation of nuclear RMF model), can exist with the quark matter in the core in a MP only. HQPT in the core of maximum mass HS occurs at radial distance, $r_c=0.27R$ where the equilibrium speed of sound shows a discontinuity. Existence of quark matter in the core enhances the non-radial oscillation frequencies in HSs compared to NSs of the same mass. This enhancement is significantly large for the $g$ modes. Such an enhancement of the $g$ modes is also seen for a density dependent Bayesian (DDB) parmeterisation of the nucleonic EOS. The non-radial oscillation frequencies depend on the vector coupling in the NJL model. The values of $g$ and $f$ mode frequencies decrease with increase the vector coupling in quark matter.

The repulsive hyperon-hyperon interaction is mediated by an additional strange $φ$ meson. We consider the effect of density dependent dark matter on the neutron star mass, radius, and tidal deformability. Nuclear matter (normal matter) as well as the fermionic dark matter sector is considered in a mean field model. We adopt the two fluid formalism to investigate the effect of dark matter on the neutron star properties. In the two fluid picture, there is no direct interaction between the dark matter and the nuclear matter. Rather these two sectors interact only through gravitational interaction. The nuclear matter sector is described by the $σ-ω-ρ$ meson interaction in the "FSU2R" parameterization. In the dark matter sector, we use the Bayesian parameter optimization technique to fix the unknown parameters in the dark matter equation of state. In the two fluid picture, we solve the coupled Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff (TOV) equations to obtain the mass and radius of dark matter admixed neutron stars (DANSs). We also estimate the effect of the density dependent dark matter sector on the tidal deformability of dark matter admixed neutron stars (DANSs).

The chi-squared based covariance approach allows one to estimate the correlations among desired observables related to nuclear matter directly from a set of fit data without taking recourse to the distributions of the nuclear matter parameters (NMPs). Such an approach is applied to study the correlations of tidal deformability of neutron star with the slope and the curvature parameters of nuclear symmetry energy governed by an extensive set of fit data on the finite nuclei together with the maximum mass of the neutron star. The knowledge of the distributions of NMPs consistent with the fit data is implicitly inbuilt in the Hessian matrix which is central to this covariance approach. Comparing our results with those obtained with the explicit use of the distributions of NMPs, we show that the appropriate correlations among NMPs as induced by the fit data are instrumental in strengthening the correlations of the tidal deformability with the symmetry energy parameters, without it, the said correlations tend to disappear. The interplay between isoscalar and isovector NMPs is also emphasized.

The nuclear matter parameters define the nuclear equation of state (EoS), they appear as coefficients of expansion around the saturation density of symmetric and asymmetric nuclear matter. We review their correlations with several properties of finite nuclei and of neutron stars within mean-field frameworks. The lower order nuclear matter parameters such as the binding energy per nucleon, incompressibility and the symmetry energy coefficients are found to be constrained in narrow limits through their strong ties with selective properties of finite nuclei. From the correlations of nuclear matter parameters with neutron star observables, we further review how precision knowledge of the radii and tidal deformability of neutron stars in the mass range $1 - 2 M_\odot$ may help cast them in narrower bounds. The higher order parameters such as the density slope and the curvature of the symmetry energy or the skewness of the symmetric nuclear matter EoS are, however, plagued with larger uncertainty. From inter-correlation of these higher order nuclear matter parameters with lower order ones, we explore how they can be brought to more harmonious bounds.

Constructing the outer crust of the neutron stars requires the knowledge of the Binding Energy (BE) of the atomic nuclei. Although the BE of a lot of the nuclei is experimentally determined and can be obtained from the AME data table, for the others we need to depend on theoretical models. There exist a lot of physical theories to predict the BE, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. In this paper, we apply Machine Learning (ML) algorithms on AME2016 data set to predict the Binding Energy {of atomic nuclei}. The novel feature of our work is that it is model independent. We do not assume or use any nuclear physics model but use only ML algorithms directly on the AME2016 data set. Our results are further refined by using another ML algorithm to train the errors of the first algorithm, and repeating this process iteratively. Our best algorithm gives $σ_{\rm rms} \approx 0.58$ MeV for Binding Energy on randomized testing sets. This is comparable to all physics models or ML improved physics models studied in literature till date. Using the predictions of our Machine Learning algorithm, we construct the outer crust equation of state (EoS) of a neutron star and show that our model is comparable to existing models. This work also demonstrates the use of various ML algorithms and a detailed analysis on how we arrived at our best algorithm. It will help the physics community in understanding how to choose an ML algorithm which would be suited for their data set. Our algorithms and best fit model is also made publicly available for the use of the community.

We search for possible correlations between neutron star observables and thermodynamic quantities that characterize high density nuclear matter. We generate a set of model-independent equations of state describing stellar matter from a Taylor expansion around saturation density. Each equation of state which is a functional of the nuclear matter parameters is thermodynamically consistent, causal and compatible with astrophysical observations. We find that the neutron star tidal deformability and radius are strongly correlated with the pressure, the energy density and the sound velocity at different densities. Similar correlations are also exhibited by a large set of mean-field models based on non-relativistic and relativistic nuclear energy density functionals. These model independent correlations can be employed to constrain the equation of state at different densities above saturation from measurements of NS properties with multi-messenger observations. In particular, precise constraints on the radius of PSR J0030+0451 thanks to NICER observations would allow to better infer the properties of matter around two times the nuclear saturation density.

Using an energy density functional (EDF) based on the thermodynamic Gibbs-Duhem relation, found equivalent to the standard Skyrme EDF for infinite nuclear matter, it is demonstrated that the parameters of this EDF are not uniquely determined from the fit of the empirical and theoretical data related to nuclear matter. This prevents an unambiguous determination of the nucleon effective mass ($\frac{m_0^*}{m}$) and its isovector splitting ($Δm_0^*$). Complementary information from dipole polarizability of atomic nuclei helps in removing this ambiguity and plausible values of $\frac{m_0^*}{m}$ and $Δm_0^*$ can be arrived at. Presently considered fit data on infinite nuclear matter and dipole polarizability of finite nuclei yield $\frac{m_0^*}{m} =0.68 \pm 0.04 $ and $Δm_0^* =(-0.20 \pm 0.09)δ$. This EDF is consistent with the constraint on the maximum mass of the neutron star.

We derive an equation of state for magnetized charge neutral nuclear matter relevant for neutron star structure. The calculations are performed within an effective chiral model based on generalization of sigma model with nonlinear self interactions of the sigma mesons along with vector mesons and a $ρ-σ$ cross-coupling term. The effective chiral model is extended by introducing the contributions of strong magnetic field on the charged particles of the model. The contributions arising from the effects of magnetic field on the Dirac sea of charged baryons are also included. The resulting equation of state for the magnetized dense matter is used to investigate the neutron star properties, like, mass-radius relation and tidal deformability. The dimensionless tidal deformability of $1.4~{M}_\odot$ NS is found to be $Λ_{1.4}=526$, which is consistent with recent observation of GW170817. The maximum mass of neutron star in presence of strong magnetic field is consistent with the observational constraints on mass of neutron star from PSR~ J0348 - 0432 and the radius at $1.4~{M}_\odot$ mass of the neutron star is within the empirical bounds.

Gravitational wave GW170817 observation puts an upper bound on tidal deformability of a binary neutron star with low spin prior at 90\% confidence level, which disfavors stiff equation of state such as Walecka model with NL3 parameterization. Constraints set on key parameters of the nuclear matter equation of state (EoS) by the values of the tidal deformability, inferred from GW170817, are examined by using a diverse set of relativistic and non-relativistic mean field models. These models are consistent with bulk properties of finite nuclei as well as with the observed lower bound on the maximum mass of neutron star $\sim 2 ~ {\rm M}_\odot$. The tidal deformability shows a strong correlation with specific linear combinations of the isoscalar and isovector nuclear matter parameters associated with the EoS. Such correlations suggest that a precise value of the tidal deformability can put tight bounds on several EoS parameters, in particular, on the slope of the incompressibility and the curvature of the symmetry energy. The tidal deformability obtained from the GW170817 and its UV/optical/infrared counterpart sets the radius of a canonical $1.4~ {\rm M}_{\odot}$ neutron star to be $11.82\leqslant R_{1.4}\leqslant13.72$ km.

The equation of state for pure neutron matter at sub-saturation densities is also in accordance with the ones obtained from different microscopic models. The maximum mass of neutron star is consistent with the measurement and the radius at the canonical mass of the neutron star is within the empirical bounds.
