The cluster structure of the neutron-rich isotope $^{10}$Be has been probed via the $(p,pα)$ reaction at 150 MeV/nucleon in inverse kinematics and in quasifree conditions. The populated states of $^{6}$He residues were investigated through missing mass spectroscopy. The triple differential cross-section for the ground-state transition was extracted for quasifree angle pairs ($θ_{p}$, $θ_α$) and compared to distorted-wave impulse approximation reaction calculations performed in a microscopic framework using successively the Tohsaki-Horiuchi-Schuck-Röpke product wave-function and the wave-function deduced from Antisymmetrized Molecular Dynamics calculations. The remarkable agreement between calculated and measured cross-sections in both shape and magnitude validates the molecular structure description of the $^{10}$Be ground-state, configured as an $α$-$α$ core with two valence neutrons occupying $π$-type molecular orbitals.

Angular distributions for the $^{12}$C($K^-$, $π^-$)$^{12}_Λ$C reaction in which a momentum transfer is $q \lesssim$ 80 MeV/$c$ at $p_K=$ 800 MeV/$c$ in the $π^-$ forward direction, are estimated by applying the extended procedure. The result shows that the calculated angular distributions are in good agreement with those of the data, and this extension is a successful prescription making it possible to describe the reaction cross sections in near-recoilless reactions such as ($K^-$, $π^-$) in our framework.

The differential cross sections of the Σ-p --> Λ n reaction were measured accurately for the Σ- momentum (p_{Σ}) ranging from 470 to 650 MeV/c at the J-PARC Hadron Experimental Facility. Precise angular information about the Σ-p --> Λ n reaction was obtained for the first time by detecting approximately 100 reaction events at each angular step of Δcosθ = 0.1. The obtained differential cross sections show slightly forward-peaking structure in the measured momentum regions. The cross sections integrated for -0.7 < cosθ < 1.0 were obtained as 22.5 +- 0.68 (stat.) +- 0.65 (syst.) mb and 15.8 +-0.83(stat.) +- 0.52 (syst.) mb for 470<p_{Σ}(MeV/c)<550 and 550<p_{Σ}(MeV/c)<650, respectively. These results show a drastic improvement compared to past measurements of the hyperon-proton scattering experiments. They will play essential roles in updating the theoretical models of the baryon-baryon interactions.

The production of a $J^P=3/2^+$ excited state of $^3_Λ$H as a virtual state is also evaluated. The comparison in $dσ/dΩ_{\rm lab}$ and $σ_{\rm lab}$ between $^4_Λ$H and $^3_Λ$H provides examining the mechanism of the production and structure of $^{3,4}_Λ$H, as well as in the endothermic ($π^-$, $K^0$) reactions at $p_{π^-}=$ 1.05 GeV/c. We study phenomenologically a $Ξ^-$ production spectrum of the $^9$Be($K^-$, $K^+$) reaction at 1.8 GeV/$c$ within the distorted-wave impulse approximation using the optimal Fermi-averaged $K^- p \to K^+ Ξ^-$ amplitude. We attempt to clarify properties of a $Ξ$-nucleus potential for $Ξ^-$-$^8$Li, comparing the calculated spectrum with the data of the BNL-E906 experiment. The results show a weak attraction in the $Ξ$-nucleus potential for $Ξ^-$-$^8$Li, which can sufficiently explain the data in the $Ξ^-$ quasifree region. The strength of $V_0^Ξ=$ $-17 \pm 6$ MeV is favored within the Woods-Saxon potential, accompanied by the reasonable absorption of $W_0^Ξ=$ $-5$ MeV for $Ξ^-p \to Ξ^0n$, $ΛΛ$ transitions in nuclear medium. It is difficult to determine the value of $W_0^Ξ$ from the data due to the insufficient resolution of 14.7 MeV FWHM. The energy dependence of the Fermi-averaged $K^- p \to K^+ Ξ^-$ amplitude is also confirmed by this analysis, and its importance in the nuclear ($K^-$, $K^+$) reaction is emphasized.

We find that we need to reduce the vector-isovector meson coupling with $Σ$ ($g_{ρΣ}$) from the value constrained by the SU(3)v symmetry in order to explain the $Σ^-$ atomic shifts for light symmetric and heavy asymmetric nuclei simultaneously. With the atomic shift fit value of $g_{ρΣ}$, $Σ^-$ can emerge in neutron star matter overcoming the repulsive isoscalar potential for $Σ$ hyperons. Admixture of $Σ^-$ in neutron stars is found to reduce the neutron star maximum mass slightly.

The angular distributions of differential cross sections are calculated using several potentials that can explain experimental data of the $Σ^-$ atomic X-ray and ($π^-$, $K^+$) reaction spectra simultaneously. The magnitude and oscillation pattern of the angular distributions are understood by the use of nearside/farside decompositions of their scattering amplitudes. The inclusive K+ spectrum at the incident momentum pK- = 1.8 GeV/c and scattering angle θlab = 0^{\circ} is estimated in a one-step mechanism, K-p \to K+Ξ- via Ξ- doorways caused by a Ξ-p-ΛΛ coupling. The calculated spectrum in the Ξ- bound region indicates that the integrated cross sections are on the order of 7-12 nb/sr for significant 1- excited states with 14C(0+, 2+) \otimes sΛpΛ configurations in 16 ΛΛC via the doorway states of the spin-stretched 15N(1/2-, 3/2-) \otimes sΞ- in 16 Ξ-C due to a high momentum transfer qΞ- \approx 400 MeV/c. The Ξ- admixture probabilities of these states are on the order of 5-9%. However, populations of the 0+ ground state with 14C(0+) \otimes s2Λ and the 2+ excited state with 14C(2+) \otimes s2 Λ are very small. The sensitivity of the spectrum on the ΞN-ΛΛ coupling strength enables us to extract the nature of ΞN-ΛΛ dynamics in nuclei, and the nuclear (K-, K+) reaction can extend our knowledge of the S = -2 world.

The expected inclusive and semi-exclusive spectra at $p_{K^-} = 1.0$ GeV/c and $θ_{\rm lab} = 0^{\circ}$ are calculated for the forthcoming J-PARC E15 experiment. We demonstrate these spectra with several types of phenomenological $K^-$-``$pp$'' optical potentials $U^{\rm opt}(E)$ which have an energy-dependent imaginary part multiplied by a phase space suppression factor, fitting to recent theoretical predictions or experimental candidates of the $K^-pp$ bound state. The results show that a cusp-like peak at the $πΣN$ threshold is an unique signal for the $K^-pp$ bound state in the spectrum including the [$K^-pp$] $\to$ $Y + N$ decay process from the two-nucleon $K^-$ absorption, as well as a distinct peak of the $K^-pp$ bound state. The shape of the spectrum is explained by a trajectory of a moving pole of the $K^-pp$ bound state in the complex energy plane. The importance of the spectrum with [$K^-pp$] $\to$ $Y + N$ from the two-nucleon $K^-$ absorption is emphasized in order to extract clear evidence of the $K^-pp$ bound state.

The formation of deeply-bound antikaonic $K^-/\bar{K}^0$ nuclear states by nuclear ($K^-$, $N$) reactions is investigated theoretically within a distorted-wave impulse approximation (DWIA), considering the isospin properties of the Fermi-averaged $K^-+ N \to N + \bar{K}$ elementary amplitudes. We calculate the formation cross sections of the deeply-bound $\bar{K}$ states by the ($K^-$, $N$) reactions on the nuclear targets, $^{12}$C and $^{28}$Si, at incident $K^-$ lab momentum $p_{K^-}$ = 1.0 GeV/c and $θ_{\rm lab} = 0^{\circ}$, introducing a complex effective nucleon number $N_{\rm eff}$ for unstable bound states in the DWIA. The results show that the deeply-bound $\bar{K}$ states can be populated dominantly by the ($K^-$, $n$) reaction via the total isoscalar $ΔT=0$ transition owing to the isospin nature of the $K^-+ N \to N + \bar{K}$ amplitudes, and that the cross sections described by ${\rm Re}N_{\rm eff}$ and ${\rm Arg}N_{\rm eff}$ enable to deduce the structure of the $\bar{K}$ nuclear states; the calculated inclusive nucleon spectra for a deep $\bar{K}$-nucleus potential do not show distinct peak structure in the bound region. The few-body $\bar{K}\otimes [NN]$ and $\bar{K}\otimes [NNN]$ states formed in ($K^-$, $N$) reactions on $s$-shell nuclear targets, $^3$He, $^3$H and $^4$He, are also discussed.

The formation of a deeply-bound $K^-pp$ state by the $^3$He(in-flight $K^-$,$n$) reaction is investigated theoretically in the distorted-wave impulse approximation using the Green's function method. The expected inclusive and semi-exclusive spectra at $p_{K^-}$ = 1.0 GeV/c and $θ_n = 0^{\circ}$ are calculated for the forthcoming J-PARC E15 experiment. We employ optical potentials between the $K^-$ and ``$pp$'' core-nucleus, and demonstrate systematically the dependence of the spectral shape on $V_0$ and $W_0$, which are the real and imaginary parts of the strength for the optical potential, respectively. The necessary condition to observe a distinct peak of the $K^-pp$ bound state with $I=1/2$, $J^π=0^-$ in the spectrum turns out to be that the value of $V_0$ is deeper than $\sim-100$ MeV and $W_0$ shallower than $\sim-100$ MeV, of which the strength parameters come up to recent theoretical predictions.

Abstract:
We propose an optimal Fermi-averaging for an elementary $π^+$+$n$$\to$$K^+$+$Λ$ t-matrix under the on-energy-shell condition, in order to describe ($π^+$,$K^+$) reactions on a nuclear target in the framework of a distorted-wave impulse approximation. We apply it to calculate $Λ$ quasi-free spectra from $^{12}$C($π^+$,$K^+$) reactions at $p_π$= 1.20 GeV/c and 1.05 GeV/c, and compare them with exp…

The results show that the calculated spectra are in excellent agreement with the data, because the energy-dependence originates from the nature of the optimal Fermi-averaging t-matrix.

In a framework of intranuclear cascade (INC) type calculation, we study a momentum spectrum in reactions \KK at a beam momentum of 1.65 GeV/c. INC model calculations are compared with the relativistic impulse approximation (RIA) calculations to perform the detailed study of the reaction mechanism. We find that the INC model can reproduce the experimental data on various targets. Especially, in the low-momentum region, the forward-angle cross sections of the $(K^-,K^+)$ reaction on from light to heavy targets are consistently explained with the two-step strangeness exchange and production processes with various intermediate mesons, and $φ$, $a_0$ and $f_0$ productions and their decay into $K^+K^-$. In the two-step processes, inclusion of meson and hyperon resonances is found to be essential.
