Lévy measures on Banach spaces
Abstract: We establish an explicit characterisation of Lévy measures on both $L^p$-spaces and UMD Banach spaces. In the case of $L^p$-spaces, Lévy measures are characterised by an integrability condition, which directly generalises the known description of Lévy measures on sequence spaces. The latter has been the only known description of Lévy measures on infinite dimensional Banach spaces that are not Hilb… ▽ More

Thermal time as an unsharp observable
Abstract: We show that the Connes-Rovelli thermal time associated with the quantum harmonic oscillator can be described as an (unsharp) observable, that is, as a positive operator valued measure. We furthermore present extensions of this result to the free massless relativistic particle in one dimension and to a hypothetical physical system whose equilibrium state is given by the noncommutative integral.

Convergence rates of the splitting scheme for parabolic linear stochastic Cauchy problems
Abstract: We study the splitting scheme associated with the linear stochastic Cauchy problem dU(t) = AU(t) dt + dW(t), where A is the generator of an analytic C_0-semigroup S={S(t)} on a Banach space E and W={W(t)} is a Brownian motion with values in a fractional domain space E_\b associated with A. We prove that if \a,\b,\g,þ\ge 0 are such that \g + þ< 1 and max[0,(\a-\b+þ)] + \g < 1/2, then the approxim… ▽ More

Spaces of operator-valued functions measurable with respect to the strong operator topology
Abstract: Let $X$ and $Y$ be Banach spaces and $(Ω,Σ,μ)$ a finite measure space. In this note we introduce the space $L^p[μ;L(X,Y)]$ consisting of all (equivalence classes of) functions $Φ:Ω\mapsto L(X,Y)$ such that $ω\mapsto Φ(ω)x$ is strongly $μ$-measurable for all $x\in X$ and $ω\mapsto Φ(ω)f(ω)$ belongs to $L^1(μ;Y)$ for all $f\in L^{p'}(μ;X)$, $1/p+1/p'=1$. We show that functions in $L^p[μ;Ł(X,Y)]$ d… ▽ More

Boundedness of Riesz transforms for elliptic operators on abstract Wiener spaces
Abstract: Let (E,H,mu) be an abstract Wiener space and let D_V := VD, where D denotes the Malliavin derivative and V is a closed and densely defined operator from H into another Hilbert space G. Given a bounded operator B on G, coercive on the closure of the range of V, we consider the realisation of the operator D_V* B D_V in L^p(E,mu) for 1<p<\infty. Our main result states that the following assertions… ▽ More

Stochastic evolution equations in UMD Banach spaces
Abstract: We discuss existence, uniqueness, and space-time Hölder regularity for solutions of the parabolic stochastic evolution equation dU(t) = (AU(t) + F(t,U(t))) dt + B(t,U(t)) dW_H(t), t\in [0,\Tend], U(0) = u_0, where $A$ generates an analytic $C_0$-semigroup on a UMD Banach space $E$ and $W_H$ is a cylindrical Brownian motion with values in a Hilbert space $H$. Ito's formula in UMD Banach spaces and regularity of solutions of the Zakai equation
Abstract: Using the theory of stochastic integration for processes with values in a UMD Banach space developed recently by the authors, an Ito formula is proved which is applied to prove the existence of strong solutions for a class of stochastic evolution equations in UMD Banach spaces. The abstract results are applied to prove regularity in space and time of the solutions of the Zakai equation.

Compactness in vector-valued Banach function spaces
Abstract: We give a new proof of a recent characterization by Diaz and Mayoral of compactness in the Lebesgue-Bochner spaces $L_X^p$, where $X$ is a Banach space and $1\le p<\infty$, and extend the result to vector-valued Banach function spaces $E_X$, where $E$ is a Banach function space with order continuous norm.

Abstract: Let H be a separable real Hilbert space and let F = (F_t)_{t\in [0,T]} be the augmented filtration generated by an H-cylindrical Brownian motion W_H on [0,T]. We prove that if E is a UMD Banach space, 1\leq p<\infty, and f\in D^{1,p}(E) is F_T-measurable, then f = \E f + \int_0^T P_F(Df) dW_H where D is the Malliavin derivative and P_F is the projection onto the F-adapted elements in a suitable… ▽ More

Conical square function estimates in UMD Banach spaces and applications to H-infinity functional calculi
Abstract: We study conical square function estimates for Banach-valued functions, and introduce a vector-valued analogue of the Coifman-Meyer-Stein tent spaces. Following recent work of Auscher-McIntosh-Russ, the tent spaces in turn are used to construct a scale of vector-valued Hardy spaces associated with a given bisectorial operator (A) with certain off-diagonal bounds, such that (A) always has a bound… ▽ More

Uniformly gamma-radonifying families of operators and and the stochastic Weiss conjecture
Abstract: We introduce the notion of uniform gamma-radonification of a family of operators, which unifies the notions of R-boundedness of a family of operators and gamma-radonification of an individual operator. We study the the properties of uniformly gamma-radonifying families of operators in detail and apply our results to the stochastic abstract Cauchy problem $dU(t) = AU(t) dt + B dW(t); U(0) = 0$ Here… ▽ More

Embedding vector-valued Besov spaces into spaces of $γ$-radonifying operators
Abstract: It is shown that a Banach space $E$ has type $p$ if and only for some (all) $d\ge 1$ the Besov space $B_{p,p}^{(\frac1p-\frac12)d}(\R^d;E)$ embeds into the space $\g(L^2(\R^d),E)$ of $\g$-radonifying operators $L^2(\R^d)\to E$. A similar result characterizing cotype $q$ is obtained. These results may be viewed as $E$-valued extensions of the classical Sobolev embedding theorems.

Stochastic integration in UMD Banach spaces
Abstract: In this paper we construct a theory of stochastic integration of processes with values in $\mathcal{L}(H,E)$, where $H$ is a separable Hilbert space and $E$ is a UMD Banach space (i.e., a space in which martingale differences are unconditional). The integrator is an $H$-cylindrical Brownian motion. Our approach is based on a two-sided $L^p$-decoupling inequality for UMD spaces due to Garling, wh… ▽ More
