Global-in-time well-posedness of the compressible Navier-Stokes equations with striated density
Abstract: We first show local-in-time well-posedness of the compressible Navier-Stokes equations, assuming striated regularity while no other smoothness or smallness conditions on the initial density. With these local-in-time solutions served as blocks, for \textit{less} regular initial data where the vacuum is permitted, the global-in-time well-posedness follows from the energy estimates and the propagated… ▽ More

Discontinuous solutions for the Navier-Stokes equations with density-dependent viscosity
Abstract: We prove existence and uniqueness of global weak solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations that govern the motion of a compressible viscous fluid with density-dependent viscosity in two space dimensions. The initial velocity belongs to the Sobolev space $H^1(\mathbb{R}^2)$ and the initial fluid density is Hölder continuous on both sides of a $\mathcal{C}^{1+α}$ interface with some geometrical assum… ▽ More

A well-posedness result for the compressible two-fluid model with density-dependent viscosity
Abstract: In this paper, we study a system of PDE's describing the motion of two compressible viscous fluids occupying the whole space $\mathbb {R}^d\;(d\in \{2,3\}$). We prove a local well-posedness result with discontinuous initial data: we require the initial density to be Hölder continuous on both sides of a hyper-surface across which it can experience large jumps. The initial velocity belongs to the So… ▽ More

Comments: In order to maintain a reasonable paper size, we divide the first version into two parts. The first one is the current version addressing the local-wellposedness of the two-phase model. The second part, which addresses the global well-posedness of discontinuous solutions for the Navier-Stokes equations, will be submitted very soon
