Abstract:
We establish a theory of scalar Fourier coefficients for a class of non-holomorphic, automorphic forms on the quaternionic real Lie group $\mathrm{U}(2,n)$. By studying the theta lifts of holomorphic modular forms from $\mathrm{U}(1,1)$, we apply this theory to obtain examples of non-holomorphic cusp forms on $\mathrm{U}(2,n)$ whose Fourier coefficients are algebraic numbers.

The problem of large-scale spatial multiple testing is often encountered in various scientific research fields, where the signals are usually enriched on some regions while sparse on others. To integrate spatial structure information from nearby locations, we propose a novel approach, called {\bf STR}ucture-{\bf A}daptive {\bf W}eighting (STRAW) procedure, for large-scale spatial multiple testing. The STRAW procedure is capable of handling a broad range of spatial settings by leveraging a class of weighted p-values and is fully data-driven. Theoretical results show that the proposed method controls the false discovery rate (FDR) at the pre-specified level under some mild conditions. In practice, the local sparsity level, defined as the probability of the null hypothesis being not true, is commonly unknown. To address this issue, we develop a new method for estimating the local sparsity level by employing the kernel-smooth local false discovery rate (Lfdr) statistic. The superior numerical performance of the STRAW procedure is demonstrated by performing extensive simulation studies and a real data analysis.

The rigorous asymptotic analysis for the Riemann problem of the defocusing nonlinear Schrödinger hydrodynamics is a very interesting problem with many challenges. To date, the full analysis of this problem remains open. In this work, the long-time asymptotics for the defocusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation with general step-like initial data is investigated by the Whitham modulation theory and Riemann-Hilbert formulation. The Whitham modulation theory shows that there are six cases for the initial discontinuity problem according to the orders of the Riemann invariants. The leading-order terms and the corresponding error estimates for each region of the six cases are formulated by the Deift-Zhou nonlinear steepest descent method for oscillatory Riemann-Hilbert problems. It is demonstrated that the long-time asymptotic solutions match very well with the results from Whitham modulation theory and the numerical simulations.

It is desirable to remove the ``up to an outer automorphism" part in the above theorem using more twisted gamma factors, but this seems a hard problem. In this paper, we provide a solution to this problem for the group $\mathrm{SO}_4(F)$, namely, we show that a generic supercuspidal representation $π$ of $\mathrm{SO}_4(F)$ is uniquely determined by its $\mathrm{GL}_1$, $\mathrm{GL}_2$ twisted local gamma factors and a twisted exterior square local gamma factor of $π$.

In numerical simulations of complex flows with discontinuities, it is necessary to use nonlinear schemes. The spectrum of the scheme used have a significant impact on the resolution and stability of the computation. Based on the approximate dispersion relation method, we combine the corresponding spectral property with the dispersion relation preservation proposed by De and Eswaran (J. Comput. Phys. 218 (2006) 398-416) and propose a quasi-linear dispersion relation preservation (QL-DRP) analysis method, through which the group velocity of the nonlinear scheme can be determined. In particular, we derive the group velocity property when a high-order Runge-Kutta scheme is used and compare the performance of different time schemes with QL-DRP. The rationality of the QL-DRP method is verified by a numerical simulation and the discrete Fourier transform method. To further evaluate the performance of a nonlinear scheme in finding the group velocity, new hyperbolic equations are designed. The validity of QL-DRP and the group velocity preservation of several schemes are investigated using two examples of the equation for one-dimensional wave propagation and the new hyperbolic equations. The results show that the QL-DRP method integrated with high-order time schemes can determine the group velocity for nonlinear schemes and evaluate their performance reasonably and efficiently.

As we found previously, when critical points occur within grid intervals, the accuracy relations of smoothness indicators of WENO-JS would differ from that assuming critical points occurring on grid nodes, and accordingly the global smoothness indicator in WENO-Z scheme will differ from the original one. Based on above understandings, we first discuss several issues regarding current third-order WENO-Z improvements (e.g. WENO-NP3, -F3, -NN3, -PZ3 and -P+3), i.e. the numerical results with scale dependency, the validity of analysis assuming critical points occurring on nodes, and the sensitivity regarding computational time step and initial condition in order convergence studies. By analyses and numerical validations, the defections of present improvements are demonstrated, either scale-dependency of results or failure to recover optimal order when critical points occurring at half nodes, then a generic analysis is provided which considers the first-order critical point occurring within grid intervals. Based on achieved theoretical outcomes, two scale-independent, third-order WENO-Z schemes are proposed which could truly recover the optimal order at critical points: the first one is acquired by limited expansion of grid stencil, deriving new global smoothness indicator and incorporating with the map** function; the second one is achieved by further expanding grid stencil and employing a different global smoothness indicator. For validating, typical 1-D scalar advection problems, 1-D and 2-D problems by Euler equations are chosen and tested. The consequences verify the optimal order recovery at critical points by proposed schemes and show that: the first scheme outperforms aforementioned third-order WENO-Z improvements in terms of numerical resolution, while the second scheme indicates weak numerical robustness in spite of improved resolution and is mainly of theoretical significance

On the idea of mapped WENO-JS scheme, properties of map** methods are analyzed, uncertainties in map** development are investigated, and new rational map**s are proposed. Based on our former understandings, i.e. map** at endpoints {0, 1} tending to identity map**, an integrated Cm,n condition is summarized for function development. Uncertainties, i.e., whether the map** at endpoints would make mapped scheme behave like WENO or ENO, whether piecewise implementation would entail numerical instability, and whether WENO3-JS could preserve the third-order at first-order critical points by map**, are analyzed and clarified. A new piecewise rational map** with sufficient regulation capability is developed afterwards, where the flatness of map** around the linear weights and its endpoint convergence toward identity map** can be coordinated explicitly and simultaneously. Hence, the increase of resolution and preservation of stability can be balanced. Especially, concrete map**s are determined for WENO3,5,7-JS. Numerical cases are tested for the new mapped WENO-JS, which regards numerical stability including that in long time computation, resolution and robustness. In purpose of comparison, some recent map**s such as IM by [App. Math. Comput. 232, 2014:453-468], RM by [J. Sci. Comput. 67, 2016:540-580] and AIM by [J. Comput. Proposed new schemes can preserve optimal orders at corresponding critical points, achieve numerical stability and indicate overall comparative advantages regarding accuracy, resolution and robustness.

We study the permanence and impermanence for discrete-time Kolmogorov systems admitting a carrying simplex. Sufficient conditions to guarantee permanence and impermanence are provided based on the existence of a carrying simplex. Particularly, for low-dimensional systems, permanence and impermanence can be determined by boundary fixed points. For a class of competitive systems whose fixed points are determined by linear equations, there always exists a carrying simplex. We provide a universal classification via the equivalence relation relative to local dynamics of boundary fixed points for the three-dimensional systems by the index formula on the carrying simplex. There are a total of 33 stable equivalence classes which are described in terms of inequalities on parameters, and we present the phase portraits on their carrying simplices. Moreover, every orbit converges to some fixed point in classes 1-25 and 33; there is always a heteroclinic cycle in class 27; Neimark-Sacker bifurcations may occur in classes 26-31 but cannot occur in class 32. Based on our permanence criteria and the equivalence classification, we obtain the specific conditions on parameters for permanence and impermanence. Only systems in classes 29,31,33 and those in class 27 with a repelling heteroclinic cycle are permanent. Applications to discrete population models including the Leslie-Gower models, Atkinson-Allen models and Ricker models are given.
