Landmark Alternating Diffusion
Abstract: Alternating Diffusion (AD) is a commonly applied diffusion-based sensor fusion algorithm. While it has been successfully applied to various problems, its computational burden remains a limitation. Inspired by the landmark diffusion idea considered in the Robust and Scalable Embedding via Landmark Diffusion (ROSELAND), we propose a variation of AD, called Landmark AD (LAD), which captures the essen… ▽ More

Solving Third Order Linear Difference Equations in Terms of Second Order Equations
Abstract: We present two algorithms for computing what we call the absolute factorization of a difference operator. We also give an algorithm to solve third order difference equations in terms of second order equations, together with applications to OEIS sequences. The latter algorithm is similar to existing algorithms for differential equations.

Solving Order 3 Difference Equations
Abstract: We classify order $3$ linear difference operators over $\mathbb{C}(x)$ that are solvable in terms of lower order difference operators. To prove this result, we introduce the notion of absolute irreducibility for difference modules, and classify modules that are irreducible but not absolutely irreducible by using restricted and induced modules. We also show how restriction and induction give coordi… ▽ More

On Steinerberger Curvature and Graph Distance Matrices
Abstract: Steinerberger proposed a notion of curvature on graphs (J. Graph Theory, 2023). We show that nonnegative curvature is almost preserved under three graph operations. We characterize the distance matrix and its null space after adding an edge between two graphs. Let $D$ be the graph distance matrix and $\mathbf{1}$ be the all-one vector. We provide a way to construct graphs so that the linear system… ▽ More

Entire solutions of two-convex Lagrangian mean curvature flows
Abstract: Given an entire $C^2$ function $u$ on $\mathbb{R}^n$, we consider the graph of $D u$ as a Lagrangian submanifold of $\mathbb{R}^{2n}$, and deform it by the mean curvature flow in $\mathbb{R}^{2n}$. This leads to the special Lagrangian evolution equation, a fully nonlinear Hessian type PDE. We prove long-time existence and convergence results under a 2-positivity assumption of… ▽ More

Cohomology for Picard-Vessiot theory
Abstract: We introduce a cohomology theory that classifies differential objects that arise from Picard-Vessiot theory, using the differential Hopf-Galois descent. To do this, we provide an explicit description of Picard-Vessiot theory in terms of differential torsors. We then use this cohomology to give a bijective correspondence between differential objects and differential torsors. As an application, we p… ▽ More

Mean Curvature Flows of Two-Convex Lagrangians
Abstract: We prove regularity, global existence, and convergence of Lagrangian mean curvature flows in the two-convex case. Such results were previously only known in the convex case, of which the current work represents a significant improvement. The proof relies on a newly discovered monotone quantity that controls two-convexity. Through a unitary transformation, same result for the mean curvature flow of… ▽ More

A New Monotone Quantity in Mean Curvature Flow Implying Sharp Homotopic Criteria
Abstract: A new monotone quantity in graphical mean curvature flows of higher codimensions is identified in this work. The submanifold deformed by the mean curvature flow is the graph of a map between Riemannian manifolds, and the quantity is monotone increasing under the area-decreasing condition of the map. The flow provides a natural homotopy of the corresponding map and leads to sharp criteria regarding… ▽ More

Simplifying matrix differential equations with general coefficients
Abstract: We show that the $n\times n$ matrix differential equation $δ(Y)=AY$ with $n^2$ general coefficients cannot be simplified to an equation in less than $n$ parameters by using gauge transformations whose coefficients are rational functions in the matrix entries of $A$ and their derivatives. Our proof uses differential Galois theory and a differential analogue of essential dimension. We also bound the… ▽ More

Generalized Lagrangian mean curvature flows: the cotangent bundle case
Abstract: In [SW2], we defined a generalized mean curvature vector field on any almost Lagrangian submanifold with respect to a torsion connection on an almost Kähler manifold. The short time existence of the corresponding parabolic flow was established. In addition, it was shown that the flow preserves the Lagrangian condition as long as the connection satisfies an Einstein condition. In this article, we s… ▽ More

Curvature Decay Estimates of Graphical Mean Curvature Flow in Higher Codimensions
Abstract: We derive pointwise curvature estimates for graphical mean curvature flows in higher codimensions. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first such estimates without assuming smallness of first derivatives of the defining map. An immediate application is a convergence theorem of the mean curvature flow of the graph of an area decreasing map between flat Riemann surfaces.

Soliton solutions for the Laplacian coflow of some $G_2$-structures with symmetry
Abstract: We consider the Laplacian "co-flow" of $G_2$-structures: $\frac{d}{dt} ψ= - Δ_d ψ$ where $ψ$ is the dual 4-form of a $G_2$-structure $φ$ and $Δ_d$ is the Hodge Laplacian on forms. This flow preserves the condition of the $G_2$-structure being coclosed ($dψ=0$). We study this flow for two explicit examples of coclosed $G_2$-structures with symmetry. These are given by warped products of an interval… ▽ More

Abstract: We present the results from our earlier paper (arXiv:math/0602484) on the affine normal flow on noncompact convex hypersurfaces in affine space from a more PDE point of view, emphasizing the estimates involved. Our results concern the limits of solutions to a parabolic Monge-Ampere equation on $S^n$, where a sequence of smooth strictly convex initial value functions increase monotonically to a l… ▽ More

Self-similar solutions and translating solitons for Lagrangian mean curvature flow
Abstract: We construct many self-similar and translating solitons for Lagrangian mean curvature flow, including self-expanders and translating solitons with arbitrarily small oscillation on the Lagrangian angle. Our translating solitons play the same role as cigar solitons in Ricci flow, and are important in studying the regularity of Lagrangian mean curvature flow. Ancient Solutions of the Affine Normal Flow
Abstract: We construct noncompact solutions to the affine normal flow of hypersurfaces, and show that all ancient solutions must be either ellipsoids (shrinking solitons) or paraboloids (translating solitons). We also provide a new proof of the existence of a hyperbolic affine sphere asymptotic to the boundary of a convex cone containing no lines, which is originally due to Cheng-Yau. Mean Curvature Flows and Isotopy of Maps Between Spheres
Abstract: Let f be a smooth map between unit spheres of possibly different dimensions. We prove the global existence and convergence of the mean curvature flow of the graph of f under various conditions. A corollary is that any area-decreasing map between unit spheres (of possibly different dimensions) is homotopic to a constant map.
