Abstract:
Given any complete Riemannian manifold $M$, we prove that for every $p \in (1, 2]$ and every $ε> 0$, $$ \| \nabla f \|_p^2 \le C_ε\| Δ^{\frac{1}{2} + ε} f \|_{p}\| Δ^{\frac{1}{2} - ε} f \|_{p}.$$The estimate is dimension free. This inequality is even proved in the abstract setting of generators of sub-Markov semigroups.

We study three problems:
1) Boundedness on $C^ν$ and on $L_p$ of the commutator $[{\cal N}, M_g]$, where $M_g$ denotes the multiplication operator by a smooth function $g$.
2) Hölder and $L_p$-bounds for the harmonic lifting associated with ${\cal A}$.
3) Poisson bounds for the heat kernel of ${\cal N}$.
We solve these problems in the case where the coefficients are Hölder continuous and the underlying domain is bounded and of class $C^{1+κ}$ for some $κ> 0$. For the Poisson bounds we assume in addition that the coefficients are real-valued. We also prove gradient estimates for the heat kernel and the Green function $G$ of the elliptic operator with Dirichlet boundary conditions.

The stability analysis of possibly time varying positive semigroups on non necessarily compact state spaces, including Neumann and Dirichlet boundary conditions is a notoriously difficult subject. These crucial questions arise in a variety of areas of applied mathematics, including nonlinear filtering, rare event analysis, branching processes, physics and molecular chemistry. This article presents an overview of some recent Lyapunov-based approaches, focusing principally on practical and powerful tools for designing Lyapunov functions. These techniques include semigroup comparisons as well as conjugacy principles on non necessarily bounded manifolds with locally Lipschitz boundaries. All the Lyapunov methodologies discussed in the article are illustrated in a variety of situations, ranging from conventional Markov semigroups on general state spaces to more sophisticated conditional stochastic processes possibly restricted to some non necessarily bounded domains, including locally Lipschitz and smooth hypersurface boundaries, Langevin diffusions as well as coupled harmonic oscillators.

Continuous functions with compact support are natural dense subspaces of Lebesgue spaces over metric measure spaces and we assume the operators T z are initially defined on them. Our main lemma concerns the approximation of continuous functions with compact support by similar functions that depend analytically in an auxiliary parameter z. An application of the main theorem concerning bilinear estimates for Schr{ö}dinger operators on L p is included.

For a sequence of functions $m_k : [0, \infty) \to \mathbb{C}$, we define $$H((f_k)) := \Big( \sum_k \int_0^\infty | \nabla m_k(tL) f_k |^2 dt \Big)^{1/2} + \Big( \sum_k \int_0^\infty | \sqrt{V} m_k(tL) f_k |^2 dt \Big)^{1/2}.$$ Under fairly reasonable assumptions on $M$ we prove boundedness of $H$ on $L^p(M)$ in the sense $$\| H((f_k)) \|_p \le C\, \Big\| \Big( \sum_k |f_k|^2 \Big)^{1/2} \Big\|_p$$ for some constant $C$ independent of $(f_k)_k$. A lower estimate is also proved on the dual space $L^{p'}$. We introduce and study boundedness of other Littlewood-Paley-Stein type functionals and discuss their relationships to the Riesz transform. We prove a criterion for invariance of a closed convex set under the action of the semigroup of N. Roughly speaking, it says that if the semigroup generated by --A, endowed with Neumann boundary conditions, leaves invariant a closed convex set of L 2 ($Ω$), then the 'trace' of this convex set is invariant for the semigroup of N. We use this invariance to prove a criterion for the domination of semigroups of two Dirichlet-to-Neumann operators. We apply this criterion to prove the diamagnetic inequality for such operators on L 2 ($Γ$).

In this paper we prove spectral multiplier theorems for abstract self-adjoint operators on spaces of homogeneous type. We have two main objectives. The first one is to work outside the semigroup context. In contrast to previous works on this subject, we do not make any assumption on the semigroup. The second objective is to consider polynomial off-diagonal decay instead of exponential one. Our approach and results lead to new applications to several operators such as differential operators, pseudo-differential operators as well as Markov chains.
In our general context we introduce a restriction type estimates à la Stein-Tomas. This allows us to obtain sharp spectral multiplier theorems and hence sharp Bochner-Riesz summability results. Finally, we consider the random walk on the integer lattice $\mathbf{Z}^n$ and prove sharp Bochner-Riesz summability results similar to those known for the standard Laplacian on $\mathbb{R}^n$.

Given a general symmetric elliptic operator $$ L\_{a} := \sum\_{k,,j=1}^d \p\_k (a\_{kj} \p\_j) + \sum\_{k=1}^d a\_k \p\_k - \p\_k(\overline{a\_k} .) + a\_0$$we define the associated Dirichlet-to-Neumann (D-t-N) operator with partial data, i.e., data supported in a part of the boundary. We prove positivity, $L^p$-estimates and domination properties for the semigroup associated with this D-t-N operator. Given $L\_a $ and $L\_b$ of the previous type with bounded measurable coefficients $a = \{a\_{kj}, \ a\_k, a\_0 \}$ and $b = \{b\_{kj}, \ b\_k, b\_0 \}$, we prove that if their partial D-t-N operators (with $a\_0$ and $b\_0$ replaced by $a\_0 -\la$ and $b\_0 -\la$) coincide for all $\la$, then the operators $L\_a$ and $L\_b$, endowed with Dirichlet, mixed or Robin boundary conditions are unitary equivalent. In the case of the Dirichlet boundary conditions, this result was proved recently by Behrndt and Rohleder \cite{BR12} for Lipschitz continuous coefficients. We provide a different proof which works for bounded measurable coefficients and other boundary conditions.

We consider the maximal regularity problem for non-autonomous evolution equations \begin{equation}

\begin{array}{rcl}

\end{array} \right. \end{equation} Each operator $A(t)$ is associated with a sesquilinear form $\mathfrak{a}(t)$ on a Hilbert space $H$. We assume that these forms all have the same domain $V$. It is proved in \cite{HO14} that if the forms have some regularity with respect to $t$ (e.g., piecewise $α$-Hölder continuous for some $α> 1/2$) then the above problem has maximal $L_p$--regularity for all $u_0 $ in the real-interpolation space $(H, D(A(0)))_{1-1/p,p}$. In this paper we prove that the regularity required there can be improved for a class of sesquilinear forms. The forms considered here are such that the difference $\mathfrak{a}(t;\cdot,\cdot) - \mathfrak{a}(s; \cdot,\cdot)$ is continuous on a larger space than the common domain $V$. We give three examples which illustrate our results.

Let $M$ be a complete non-compact Riemannian manifold satisfying the doubling volume property
as well as a Gaussian upper bound for the corresponding heat kernel. We study the boundedness of the Riesz transform $dΔ^{-\frac{1}{2}}$ on both Hardy spaces $H^p$ and Lebesgue spaces $L^p$ under two different conditions on the negative part of the Ricci curvature $R^-$.
First we prove that if $R^-$ is $α$-subcritical for some $α\in [0,1)$, then the Riesz transform $d^*Δ^{-\frac{1}{2}}$ on differential $1$-forms is bounded from the associated Hardy space $H^p_{\overrightarrowΔ}(Λ^1T^*M)$ to $L^p(M)$ for all $p\in [1,2]$.
As a consequence, the Riesz transform (on functions) is bounded on $ L^p$ for all $p\in (1,p_0)$ where $p_0>2$ depends on $α$ and the constant appearing in the doubling property. Second, we prove that if $$\int_0^1 \left\|\frac{|R^-|^{\frac{1}{2}}}{v(\cdot,\ \sqrt{t})^{\frac{1}{p_1}}}\right\|_{p_1}\frac{dt}{\sqrt{t}}+\int_1^\infty \left\|\frac{|R^-|^{\frac{1}{2}}}{v(\cdot,\ \sqrt{t})^{\frac{1}{p_2}}}\right\|_{p_2}\frac{dt}{\sqrt{t}}<\infty,$$ for some $p_1>2$ and $p_2>3$, then the Riesz transform $dΔ^{-\frac{1}{2}}$ is bounded on $L^p$ for all $1<p<p_2$. In the particular case where $v(x, r) \ge C r^D$ for all $r \ge 1$ and $|R^-| \in L^{D/2 -η} \cap L^{D/2 + η}$ for some $η> 0$, then $dΔ^{-\frac{1}{2}}$ is bounded on $L^p$ for all $1<p< D.$
Furthermore, we study the boundedness of the Riesz transform of Schrödinger operators $A=Δ+V$ on $L^p$ for $p>2$ under conditions on $R^-$ and the potential $V$. We prove both positive and negative results on the boundedness of $dA^{-\frac{1}{2}}$ on $L^p$

The aim of this article is to find a criterion for the invariance of a closed convex subset $\Conv$ of $H$; i.e.\ we give a criterion on the form which implies that $u(t)\in \Conv$ for all $t\in[0,T]$ whenever $u_0\in\Conv$. In the autonomous case for $f = 0$, the criterion is known and even equivalent to invariance by a result proved in \cite{Ouh96} (see also \cite{Ouh05}). We give applications to positivity and comparison of solutions to heat equations with non-autonomous Robin boundary conditions. We also prove positivity of the solution to a quasi-linear heat equation.

For such operators we introduce a restriction type condition which in the case of the standard Laplace operator is equivalent to $(p,2)$ restriction estimate of Stein and Tomas. Next we show that in the considered abstract setting our restriction type condition implies sharp spectral multipliers and endpoint estimates for the Bochner-Riesz summability. We also observe that this restriction estimate holds for operators satisfying dispersive or Strichartz estimates. We obtain new spectral multiplier results for several second order differential operators and recover some known results. Our examples include Schrödinger operators with inverse square potentials on $\RR^n$, the harmonic oscillator, elliptic operators on compact manifolds and Schrödinger operators on asymptotically conic manifolds.
