Mixing properties of nonstationary multivariate count processes
Abstract: We prove absolute regularity ($β$-mixing) for nonstationary and multivariate versions of two popular classes of integer-valued processes. We show how this result can be used to prove asymptotic normality of a least squares estimator of an involved model parameter.

Infinite Permutation Groups
Abstract: This is a transcript of a lecture course on Infinite Permutation Groups given by Peter M. Neumann (1940-2020) in Oxford during the academic year 1988-1989. The field of Infinite Permutation Groups only emerged as an independent field of study in the 1980's. Most of the results described in these notes were at the time of the lectures brand new and had either just recently appeared in print or had… ▽ More

A log-linear model for non-stationary time series of counts
Abstract: We propose a new model for nonstationary integer-valued time series which is particularly suitable for data with a strong trend. In contrast to popular Poisson-INGARCH models, but in line with classical GARCH models, we propose to pick the conditional distributions from nearly scale invariant families where the mean absolute value and the standard deviation are of the same order of magnitude. Noisy decoding by shallow circuits with parities: classical and quantum
Abstract: We consider the problem of decoding corrupted error correcting codes with NC$^0[\oplus]$ circuits in the classical and quantum settings. We show that any such classical circuit can correctly recover only a vanishingly small fraction of messages, if the codewords are sent over a noisy channel with positive error rate. Previously this was known only for linear codes with large dual distance, whereas… ▽ More

MuRiT: Efficient Computation of Pathwise Persistence Barcodes in Multi-Filtered Flag Complexes via Vietoris-Rips Transformations
Abstract: Multi-parameter persistent homology naturally arises in applications of persistent topology to data that come with extra information depending on additional parameters, like for example time series data. We introduce the concept of a Vietoris-Rips transformation, a method that reduces the computation of the one-parameter persistent homology of pathwise subcomplexes in multi-filtered flag complexes… ▽ More

Primitive permutation groups of degree 3p
Abstract: This paper presents an analysis of primitive permutation groups of degree $3p$, where $p$ is a prime number, analogous to H. Wielandt's treatment of groups of degree $2p$. It is also intended as an example of the systematic use of combinatorial methods as surveyed in \S6 for distilling information about a permutation group from knowledge of the decomposition of its character. Mixing properties of non-stationary INGARCH(1,1) processes
Abstract: We derive mixing properties for a broad class of Poisson count time series satisfying a certain contraction condition. Using specific coupling techniques, we prove absolute regularity at a geometric rate not only for stationary Poisson-GARCH processes but also for models with an explosive trend. We provide easily verifiable sufficient conditions for absolute regularity for a variety of models incl… ▽ More

Consistency of a nonparametric least squares estimator in integer-valued GARCH models
Abstract: We consider a nonparametric version of the integer-valued GARCH(1,1) model for time series of counts. The link function in the recursion for the variances is not specified by finite-dimensional parameters, but we impose nonparametric smoothness conditions. We propose a least squares estimator for this function and show that it is consistent with a rate that we conjecture to be nearly optimal.

Stationarity and ergodic properties for some observation-driven models in random environments
Abstract: The first motivation of this paper is to study stationarity and ergodic properties for a general class of time series models defined conditional on an exogenous covariates process. The dynamic of these models is given by an autoregressive latent process which forms a Markov chain in random environments. Contrarily to existing contributions in the field of Markov chains in random environments, the… ▽ More

Mixing properties of Skellam-GARCH processes
Abstract: We consider integer-valued GARCH processes, where the count variable conditioned on past values of the count and state variables follows a so-called Skellam distribution. Furthermore, we show asymptotic regularity ($β$-mixing) with geometrically decaying coefficients for the count process. These… ▽ More

Estimation of geodesic tortuosity and constrictivity in stationary random closed sets
Abstract: We investigate the problem of estimating geodesic tortuosity and constrictivity as two structural characteristics of stationary random closed sets. They are of central importance for the analysis of effective transport properties in porous or composite materials. Loosely speaking, geodesic tortuosity measures the windedness of paths whereas the notion of constrictivity captures the appearance of b… ▽ More

Absolute regularity of semi-contractive GARCH-type processes
Abstract: We prove existence and uniqueness of a stationary distribution and absolute regularity for nonlinear GARCH and INGARCH models of order (p,q). Some infinite permutation groups and related finite linear groups
Abstract: This article began as a study of the structure of infinite permutation groups G in which point stabilisers are finite and all infinite normal subgroups are transitive. The notion of $ψ$-weak dependence and its applications to bootstrap** time series
Abstract: We give an introduction to a notion of weak dependence which is more general than mixing and allows to treat for example processes driven by discrete innovations as they appear with time series bootstrap.
