On the Hofer-Zehnder conjecture for semipositive symplectic manifolds
Abstract: We show that, on a closed semipositive symplectic manifold with semisimple quantum homology, any Hamiltonian diffeomorphism possessing more contractible fixed points, counted homologically, than the total Betti number of the manifold, must have infinitely many periodic points. This generalizes to the semipositive setting the beautiful result of Shelukhin on the Hofer-Zehnder conjecture.

Optimality conditions for optimal control of multisolution p-Laplacian elliptic equations
Abstract: In this paper, an optimal control problem governed by a class of p-Laplacian elliptic equations is studied. In particular, as no monotonicity assumption is assumed on the nonlinear term, the state equation may admit several solutions for one control. To obtain optimality conditions for an optimal pair, the multiplicity and singularity/degeneracy of the state equation need to be handled respectivel… ▽ More

$\partial$-reducible handle additions
Abstract: Let $M$ be a simple 3-manifold, and $F$ be a component of $\partial M$ of genus at least 2. Let $α$ and $β$ be separating slopes on $F$. Let $M(α)$ (resp. $M(β)$) be the manifold obtained by adding a 2-handle along $α$ (resp. $β$). If $M(α)$ and $M(β)$ are $\partial$-reducible, then the minimal geometric intersection number of $α$ and $β$ is at most 8.

Optimization of the Principal Eigenvalue for Elliptic Operators
Abstract: Maximization and minimization problems of the principle eigenvalue for divergence form second order elliptic operators with the Dirichlet boundary condition are considered. The principal eigen map of such elliptic operators is introduced and some basic properties of this map, including continuity, concavity, and differentiability with respect to the parameter in the diffusibility matrix, are estab… ▽ More

Second-Order Necessary Conditions for Optimal Control of Semilinear Elliptic Equations with Leading Term Containing Controls
Abstract: An optimal control problem for a semilinear elliptic equation of divergence form is considered. Both the leading term and the semilinear term of the state equation contain the control. The well-known Pontryagin type maximum principle for the optimal controls is the first-order necessary condition. When such a first-order necessary condition is singular in some sense, certain type of the second-ord… ▽ More

Optimal Blowup Time for Controlled Ordinary Differential Equations
Abstract: Both the shortest and the longest blowup time for a controlled system are considered. Existence result and maximum principle for optimal triple are established. Thanks to some monotonicity of the controlled system, some kinds of "the front part local optimality" for optimal triple is established. Then proofs of the main results become easy, clear and abundant.

Time optimal control problems for some non-smooth systems
Abstract: Time optimal control problems for some non-smooth systems in general form are considered. The non-smoothness is caused by singularity. It is proved that Pontryagin's maximum principle holds for at least one optimal relaxed control. Thus, Pontryagin's maximum principle holds when the optimal classical control is a unique optimal relaxed control. By constructing an auxiliary controlled system which… ▽ More

Necessary and Sufficient Conditions for Distinguishability of Linear Control Systems
Abstract: Distinguishability takes a crucial rule in studying observability of hybrid system such as switched system. Recently, for two linear systems, Lou and Si gave a condition not only necessary but also sufficient to the distinguishability of linear systems. However, the condition is not easy enough to verify. This paper will give a new equivalent condition which is relatively easy to verify.

The Proof of Alzer's Conjecture on Generalized Logarithmic Mean
Abstract: In 1987, Alzer posed a conjecture on generalized logarithmic mean, which was introduced by Stolarsky in 1975. To prove Alzer's conjecture, Lou posed a conjecture on generalized inverse harmonic mean in 1995. By proving Lou's conjecture, the paper yields Alzer's conjecture finally.

Cesari-type Conditions for Semilinear Elliptic Equations with Leading Term Containing Controls
Abstract: An optimal control problem governed by semilinear elliptic partial differential equations is considered. The equation is in divergence form with the leading term containing controls. By studying the $G$-closure of the leading term, an existence result is established under a Cesari-type condition.

Optimality Conditions for Semilinear Parabolic Equations with Controls in Leading Term
Abstract: An optimal control problem for semilinear parabolic partial differential equations is considered. The control variable appears in the leading term of the equation. Necessary conditions for optimal controls are established by the method of homogenizing spike variation. Results for problems with state constraints are also stated.
