Consider the interaction of biharmonic waves with a periodic array of cavities, characterized by the Kirchhoff--Love model. This paper investigates the perfectly matched layer (PML) formulation and its numerical soution to the governing biharmonic wave equation. The study establishes the well-posedness of the associated variational problem employing the Fredholm alternative theorem. Based on the examination of an auxiliary problem in the PML layer, exponential convergence of the PML solution is attained. Moreover, it develops and compares three decomposition methods alongside their corresponding mixed finite element formulations, incorporating interior penalty techniques for solving the PML problem. Numerical experiments validate the effectiveness of the proposed methods in absorbing outgoing waves within the PML layers and suppressing oscillations in the bending moment of biharmonic waves near the cavity's surface.

To fully leverage the multi-task optimization paradigm for accelerating the solution of expensive scheduling problems, this study has effectively tackled three vital concerns. The primary issue is identifying auxiliary tasks that closely resemble the original expensive task. We suggested a sampling strategy based on job importance, creating a compact matrix by extracting crucial rows from the entire problem specification matrix of the expensive task. This matrix serves as an economical auxiliary task. Mathematically, we proved that this economical auxiliary task bears similarity to its corresponding expensive task. The subsequent concern revolves around making auxiliary tasks more cost-effective. We determined the sampling proportions for the entire problem specification matrix through factorial design experiments, resulting in a more compact auxiliary task. With a reduced search space and shorter function evaluation time, it can rapidly furnish high-quality transferable information for the primary task. The last aspect involves designing transferable deep information from auxiliary tasks. We regarded the job priorities in the (sub-) optimal solutions to the economical auxiliary task as transferable invariants. By adopting a partial solution patching strategy, we augmented specificity knowledge onto the common knowledge to adapt to the target expensive task. The strategies devised for constructing task pairs and facilitating knowledge transfer, when incorporated into various evolutionary multitasking algorithms, were utilized to address expensive instances of permutation flow shop scheduling. Extensive experiments and statistical comparisons have validated that, with the collaborative synergy of these strategies, the performance of evolutionary multitasking algorithms is significantly enhanced in handling expensive scheduling tasks.

As deep learning models exponentially increase in size, optimizers such as Adam encounter significant memory consumption challenges due to the storage of first and second moment data. Current memory-efficient methods like Adafactor and CAME often compromise accuracy with their matrix factorization techniques. Addressing this, we introduce Adapprox, a novel approach that employs randomized low-rank matrix approximation for a more effective and accurate approximation of Adam's second moment. Adapprox features an adaptive rank selection mechanism, finely balancing accuracy and memory efficiency, and includes an optional cosine similarity guidance strategy to enhance stability and expedite convergence. In GPT-2 training and downstream tasks, Adapprox surpasses AdamW by achieving 34.5% to 49.9% and 33.8% to 49.9% memory savings for the 117M and 345M models, respectively, with the first moment enabled, and further increases these savings without the first moment. Besides, it enhances convergence speed and improves downstream task performance relative to its counterparts.

This paper intends to apply the sample-average-approximation (SAA) scheme to solve a system of stochastic equations (SSE), which has many applications in a variety of fields. The SAA is an effective paradigm to address risks and uncertainty in stochastic models from the perspective of Monte Carlo principle. Nonetheless, a numerical conflict arises from the sample size of SAA when one has to make a tradeoff between the accuracy of solutions and the computational cost. To alleviate this issue, we incorporate a gradually reinforced SAA scheme into a differentiable homotopy method and develop a gradually reinforced sample-average-approximation (GRSAA) differentiable homotopy method in this paper. By introducing a series of continuously differentiable functions of the homotopy parameter $t$ ranging between zero and one, we establish a differentiable homotopy system, which is able to gradually increase the sample size of SAA as $t$ descends from one to zero. The set of solutions to the homotopy system contains an everywhere smooth path, which starts from an arbitrary point and ends at a solution to the SAA with any desired accuracy. The GRSAA differentiable homotopy method serves as a bridge to link the gradually reinforced SAA scheme and a differentiable homotopy method and retains the nice property of global convergence the homotopy method possesses while greatly reducing the computational cost for attaining a desired solution to the original SSE. Several numerical experiments further confirm the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed method.

The Grushin spaces, as one of the most important models in the Carnot-Carathéodory space, are a class of locally compact and geodesic metric spaces which admit a dilation. Function spaces on Grushin spaces and some related geometric problems are always the research hotspots in this field. Firstly, we investigate two classes of Besov type spaces based on the Grushin semigroup and the fractional Grushin semigroup, respectively, and prove some important properties of these two Besov type spaces. Moreover, we also reveal the relationship between them. Secondly, we establish the isoperimetric inequality for the fractional perimeter, which is defined by the Grushin-Laplace operator on Grushin spaces. Finally, we combine the semigroup theory with a nonlocal calculus for the Grushin-Laplace operator to obtain the Sobolev type inequality. This paper addresses an inverse cavity scattering problem associated with the biharmonic wave equation in two dimensions. The objective is to determine the domain or shape of the cavity. The Green's representations are demonstrated for the solution to the boundary value problem, and the one-to-one correspondence is confirmed between the Helmholtz component of biharmonic waves and the resulting far-field patterns. Two mixed reciprocity relations are deduced, linking the scattered field generated by plane waves to the far-field pattern produced by various types of point sources. Furthermore, the symmetry relations are explored for the scattered fields generated by point sources. Finally, we present two uniqueness results for the inverse problem by utilizing both far-field patterns and phaseless near-field data.

Over a field of characteristic zero or characteristic $\ell$ with $\ell\nmid q(q-1)$, we deduce a categorical action of a Kac-Moody algebra $\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{l}'_{I_+}\oplus\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{l}'_{I_-}$ on the representation category of finite classical groups. We show that the colored weight functions $\mathbb{O}^+(u)(\bullet)$, $\mathbb{O}^-(v)(\bullet)$ and uniform projection can distinguish all irreducible characters of finite classical groups. In particular, the colored weight functions are complete invariants of quadratic unipotent characters. We also show that using the theta correspondence and extra symmetries of categorical double quantum Heisenberg action, the Kac-Moody action on the Grothendieck group of the whole category can be determined explicitly.

The transparent boundary conditions are introduced to formulate the problem from an unbounded domain to a bounded one. The well-posedness of the associated variational problem is demonstrated utilizing the Fredholm alternative theorem. The perfectly matched layer (PML) method is employed to reformulate the original scattering problem, transforming it from an unbounded domain to a bounded one. The transparent boundary conditions for the PML problem are deduced, and the well-posedness of its variational problem is established. Randomized algorithms are important for solving large-scale optimization problems. In this paper, we propose a fast sketching algorithm for least square problems regularized by convex or nonconvex regularization functions, Sketching for Regularized Optimization (SRO). Our SRO algorithm first generates a sketch of the original data matrix, then solves the sketched problem. Different from existing randomized algorithms, our algorithm handles general Frechet subdifferentiable regularization functions in an unified framework. We present general theoretical result for the approximation error between the optimization results of the original problem and the sketched problem for regularized least square problems which can be convex or nonconvex. For arbitrary convex regularizer, relative-error bound is proved for the approximation error. Importantly, minimax rates for sparse signal estimation by solving the sketched sparse convex or nonconvex learning problems are also obtained using our general theoretical result under mild conditions. To the best of our knowledge, our results are among the first to demonstrate minimax rates for convex or nonconvex sparse learning problem by sketching under a unified theoretical framework. We further propose an iterative sketching algorithm which reduces the approximation error exponentially by iteratively invoking the sketching algorithm. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed SRO and Iterative SRO algorithms.

In this paper, we study both the direct and inverse random source problems associated with the multi-term time-fractional diffusion-wave equation driven by a fractional Brownian motion. Regarding the direct problem, the well-posedness is established and the regularity of the solution is characterized for the equation. In the context of the inverse problem, the uniqueness and instability are investigated on the determination of the random source. Furthermore, a reconstruction formula is provided for the phaseless Fourier modes of the diffusion coefficient in the random source, based on the variance of the boundary data. To reconstruct the time-dependent source function from its phaseless Fourier modes, the PhaseLift method, combined with a spectral cut-off regularization technique, is employed to tackle the phase retrieval problem. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated through a series of numerical experiments.

Similarly, if we only have the condition $E(T_i) \cap E(T_j )=\emptyset$ but without the condition $V(T_i)\cap V(T_j)=S$, then they are \emph{edge-disjoint Steiner trees}. The \emph{generalized $k$-connectivity}, denoted by $κ_k(G)$, of a graph $G$, is defined as $κ_k(G)=\min\{κ_G(S)|S \subseteq V(G) \ \textrm{and} \ |S|=k \}$, where $κ_G(S)$ is the maximum number of internally disjoint $S$-Steiner trees. The \emph{generalized local edge-connectivity} $λ_{G}(S)$ is the maximum number of edge-disjoint Steiner trees connecting $S$ in $G$. The {\it generalized $k$-edge-connectivity} $λ_k(G)$ of $G$ is defined as $λ_k(G)=\min\{λ_{G}(S)\,|\,S\subseteq V(G) \ and \ |S|=k\}$. These measures are generalizations of the concepts of connectivity and edge-connectivity, and they and can be used as measures of vulnerability of networks. It is, in general, difficult to compute these generalized connectivities. However, there are precise results for some special classes of graphs. In this paper, we obtain the exact value of $λ_{k}(S(n,\ell))$ for $3\leq k\leq \ell^n$, and the exact value of $κ_{k}(S(n,\ell))$ for $3\leq k\leq \ell$, where $S(n, \ell)$ is the Sierpiński graphs with order $\ell^n$. As a direct consequence, these graphs provide additional interesting examples when $λ_{k}(S(n,\ell))=κ_{k}(S(n,\ell))$. We also study the some network properties of Sierpiński graphs.

We study quasi-stationary distribution of the continuous-state branching process with competition introduced in Berestycki, Fittipaldi and Fontbona\ (Probab. Theory Relat. Fields, 2018). This process is constructed as the unique strong solution to a stochastic integral equation with jumps. An important example is the logistic branching process constructed in Lambert (Ann. Appl. Probab., 2005). We establish the strong Feller property, trajectory Feller property, Lyapunov condition, weak Feller property and irreducibility, respectively. These properties together allow us to prove that when the competition term is strong enough near $+\infty$, then there is a unique quasi-stationary distribution, which attracts all initial distributions with exponential rates.

Communication compression, a technique aiming to reduce the information volume to be transmitted over the air, has gained great interests in Federated Learning (FL) for the potential of alleviating its communication overhead. However, communication compression brings forth new challenges in FL due to the interplay of compression-incurred information distortion and inherent characteristics of FL such as partial participation and data heterogeneity. Despite the recent development, the performance of compressed FL approaches has not been fully exploited. The existing approaches either cannot accommodate arbitrary data heterogeneity or partial participation, or require stringent conditions on compression.
In this paper, we revisit the seminal stochastic controlled averaging method by proposing an equivalent but more efficient/simplified formulation with halved uplink communication costs. Building upon this implementation, we propose two compressed FL algorithms, SCALLION and SCAFCOM, to support unbiased and biased compression, respectively. Both the proposed methods outperform the existing compressed FL methods in terms of communication and computation complexities. Moreover, SCALLION and SCAFCOM accommodates arbitrary data heterogeneity and do not make any additional assumptions on compression errors. Experiments show that SCALLION and SCAFCOM can match the performance of corresponding full-precision FL approaches with substantially reduced uplink communication, and outperform recent compressed FL methods under the same communication budget.

This paper presents a robust numerical solution to the electromagnetic scattering problem involving multiple multi-layered cavities in both transverse magnetic and electric polarizations. A transparent boundary condition is introduced at the open aperture of the cavity to transform the problem from an unbounded domain into that of bounded cavities. By employing Fourier series expansion of the solution, we reduce the original boundary value problem to a two-point boundary value problem, represented as an ordinary differential equation for the Fourier coefficients. The analytical derivation of the connection formula for the solution enables us to construct a small-scale system that includes solely the Fourier coefficients on the aperture, streamlining the solving process. Furthermore, we propose accurate numerical quadrature formulas designed to efficiently handle the weakly singular integrals that arise in the transparent boundary conditions. To demonstrate the effectiveness and versatility of our proposed method, a series of numerical experiments are conducted.

Assume that zero is a regular point of $H:= Δ^2+V $, we first prove the following optimal time decay estimates of the solution operators \begin{equation*}
\big\|\cos (t\sqrt{H})P_{ac}(H)\big\|_{L^{1} \rightarrow L^{\infty}} \lesssim|t|^{-\frac{3}{2}}\ \ \hbox{and} \ \

It is noticed that the first kind resonance does not effect the decay rates for the propagator operators $\cos(t\sqrt{H})$ and $\frac{\sin(t\sqrt{H})}{\sqrt{H}}$, but their decay will be dramatically changed for the second and third resonance types.

Flexural wave scattering plays a crucial role in optimizing and designing structures for various engineering applications. Mathematically, the flexural wave scattering problem on an infinite thin plate is described by a fourth-order plate-wave equation on an unbounded domain, making it challenging to solve directly using the regular linear finite element method (FEM). In this paper, we propose two numerical methods, the interior penalty FEM (IP-FEM) and the boundary penalty FEM (BP-FEM) with a transparent boundary condition (TBC), to study flexural wave scattering by an arbitrary-shaped cavity on an infinite thin plate. Both methods decompose the fourth-order plate-wave equation into the Helmholtz and modified Helmholtz equations with coupled conditions at the cavity boundary. A TBC is then constructed based on the analytical solutions of the Helmholtz and modified Helmholtz equations in the exterior domain, effectively truncating the unbounded domain into a bounded one. Using linear triangular elements, the IP-FEM and BP-FEM successfully suppress the oscillation of the bending moment of the solution at the cavity boundary, demonstrating superior stability and accuracy compared to the regular linear FEM when applied to this problem.

This paper is concerned with the stability estimates for inverse source problems of the stochastic Helmholtz equation driven by white noise. The well-posedness is established for the direct source problems, which ensures the existence and uniqueness of solutions. The stability estimates are deduced for the inverse source problems, which aim to determine the strength of the random source. To enhance the stability of the inverse source problems, we incorporate a priori information regarding the regularity and support of the strength. In the case of homogeneous media, a Hölder stability estimate is established, providing a quantitative measure of the stability for reconstructing the source strength. For the more challenging scenario of inhomogeneous media, a logarithmic stability estimate is presented, capturing the intricate interactions between the source and the varying medium properties.

LADO leverages a baseline policy to safeguard online actions for worst-case robustness guarantees, while staying close to the machine learning (ML) policy for average performance improvement. In stark contrast with the existing learning-augmented online algorithms that focus on centralized settings, LADO achieves strong robustness guarantees in a decentralized setting. We also prove the average cost bound for LADO, revealing the tradeoff between average performance and worst-case robustness and demonstrating the advantage of training the ML policy by explicitly considering the robustness requirement.

Scheduling problems are often tackled independently, and rarely solved by leveraging the commonalities across problems. Lack of awareness of this inter-task similarity could impede the search efficacy. A quantifiable relationship between scheduling problems is to-date rather unclear, how to leverage it in combinatorial optimization remains largely unknown, and its effects on search are also undeterminable. This paper addresses these hard questions by delving into quantifiable useful inter-task relationships and, through leveraging the explicit relationship, presenting a speed-up algorithm. After deriving an analytical inter-task distance metric to quantitatively reveal latent similarity across scheduling problems, an adaptive transfer of multi-modality knowledge is devised to promptly adjust the transfer in forms of explicit and implicit knowledge in response to heterogeneity in the inter-task discrepancy. For faintly related problems with disappearing dependences, a problem transformation function is suggested with a matching-feature-based greedy policy, and the function projects faintly related problems into a latent space where these problems gain similarity in a way that creates search speed-ups. Finally, a multi-task scatter search combinatorial algorithm is formed and a large-scale multi-task benchmark is generated serving the purposes of validation. That the algorithm exhibits dramatic speed-ups of 2~3 orders of magnitude, as compared to direct problem solving in strongly related problems and 3 times faster in weakly related ones, suggests leveraging commonality across problems could be successful.

We propose a scheme for imaging periodic surfaces using a superlens. By employing an inverse scattering model and the transformed field expansion method, we derive an approximate reconstruction formula for the surface profile, assuming small amplitude. This formula suggests that unlimited resolution can be achieved for the linearized inverse problem with perfectly matched parameters. Our method requires only a single incident wave at a fixed frequency and can be efficiently implemented using fast Fourier transform. Through numerical experiments, we demonstrate that our method achieves resolution significantly surpassing the resolution limit for both smooth and non-smooth surface profiles with either perfect or marginally imperfect parameters.

In this paper, we propose Projected Proximal Gradient Descent (PPGD) which solves a class of nonconvex and nonsmooth optimization problems, where the nonconvexity and nonsmoothness come from a nonsmooth regularization term which is nonconvex but piecewise convex. In contrast with existing convergence analysis of accelerated PGD methods for nonconvex and nonsmooth problems based on the Kurdyka-Łojasiewicz (KŁ) property, we provide a new theoretical analysis showing local fast convergence of PPGD. It is proved that PPGD achieves a fast convergence rate of $\cO(1/k^2)$ when the iteration number $k \ge k_0$ for a finite $k_0$ on a class of nonconvex and nonsmooth problems under mild assumptions, which is locally Nesterov's optimal convergence rate of first-order methods on smooth and convex objective function with Lipschitz continuous gradient. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of PPGD.

Magnetic skyrmions widely exist in a diverse range of magnetic systems, including chiral magnets with a non-centrosymmetric structure characterized by Dzyaloshinkii-Moriya interaction~(DMI). In this study, we propose a generalized semi-implicit backward differentiation formula projection method, enabling the simulations of the Landau-Lifshitz~(LL) equation in chiral magnets in a typical time step-size of $1$ ps, markedly exceeding the limit subjected by existing numerical methods of typically $0.1$ ps. Using micromagnetics simulations, we show that the LL equation with DMI reveals an intriguing dynamic instability in magnetization configurations as the dam** varies. Both the isolated skyrmionium and skyrmionium clusters can be consequently produced using a simple initialization strategy and a specific dam** parameter. Assisted by the string method, the transition path between skyrmion and skyrmionium, along with the escape of a skyrmion from the skyrmion clusters, are then thoroughly examined. The numerical methods developed in this work not only provide a reliable paradigm to investigate the skyrmion-based textures and their transition paths, but also facilitate the understandings for magnetization dynamics in complex magnetic systems.

Energy storage (ES) and virtual energy storage (VES) are key components to realizing power system decarbonization. Although ES and VES have been proven to deliver various types of grid services, little work has so far provided a systematical framework for quantifying their adequacy contribution and credible capacity value while incorporating human and market behavior. Therefore, this manuscript proposed a novel evaluation framework to evaluate the capacity credit (CC) of ES and VES. To address the system capacity inadequacy and market behavior of storage, a two-stage coordinated dispatch is proposed to achieve the trade-off between day-ahead self-energy management of resources and efficient adjustment to real-time failures. And we further modeled the human behavior with storage operations and incorporate two types of decision-independent uncertainties (DIUs) (operate state and self-consumption) and one type of decision-dependent uncertainty (DDUs) (available capacity) into the proposed dispatch. Furthermore, novel reliability and CC indices (e.g., equivalent physical storage capacity (EPSC)) are introduced to evaluate the practical and theoretical adequacy contribution of ES and VES, as well as the ability to displace generation and physical storage while maintaining equivalent system adequacy. Exhaustive case studies based on the IEEE RTS-79 system and real-world data verify the significant consequence (10%-70% overestimated CC) of overlooking DIUs and DDUs in the previous works, while the proposed method outperforms other and can generate a credible and realistic result. Finally, we investigate key factors affecting the adequacy contribution of ES and VES, and reasonable suggestions are provided for better flexibility utilization of ES and VES in decarbonized power system.

These targets are searched using a bank of correlators tuned to the waveform corresponding to the given Doppler frequency shift and delay. In this paper, we study the problem of joint delay-Doppler estimation of moving targets in OFDM passive radar. This task of estimation is described as an atomic-norm regularized convex optimization problem, or equivalently, a semi-definite programming problem. The alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) can be employed which computes each variable in a Gauss-Seidel manner, but its convergence is lack of certificate. In this paper, we use a symmetric Gauss-Seidel (sGS) to the framework of ADMM, which only needs to compute some of the subproblems twice but has the ability to ensure convergence. We do some simulated experiments which illustrate that the sGS-ADMM is superior to ADMM in terms of accuracy and computing time.

This work concerns the direct and inverse potential problems for the stochastic diffusion equation driven by a multiplicative time-dependent white noise. The direct problem is to examine the well-posedness of the stochastic diffusion equation for a given potential, while the inverse problem is to determine the potential from the expectation of the solution at a fixed observation point inside the spatial domain. The direct problem is shown to admit a unique and positive mild solution if the initial value is nonnegative. Moreover, an explicit formula is deduced to reconstruct the square of the potential, which leads to the uniqueness of the inverse problem for nonnegative potential functions. Two regularization methods are utilized to overcome the instability of the numerical differentiation in the reconstruction formula. Numerical results show that the methods are effective to reconstruct both smooth and nonsmooth potential functions.

The stochastic proximal point (SPP) methods have gained recent attention for stochastic optimization, with strong convergence guarantees and superior robustness to the classic stochastic gradient descent (SGD) methods showcased at little to no cost of computational overhead added. In this article, we study a minibatch variant of SPP, namely M-SPP, for solving convex composite risk minimization problems. The core contribution is a set of novel excess risk bounds of M-SPP derived through the lens of algorithmic stability theory. Particularly under smoothness and quadratic growth conditions, we show that M-SPP with minibatch-size $n$ and iteration count $T$ enjoys an in-expectation fast rate of convergence consisting of an $\mathcal{O}\left(\frac{1}{T^2}\right)$ bias decaying term and an $\mathcal{O}\left(\frac{1}{nT}\right)$ variance decaying term. In the small-$n$-large-$T$ setting, this result substantially improves the best known results of SPP-type approaches by revealing the impact of noise level of model on convergence rate. In the complementary small-$T$-large-$n$ regime, we provide a two-phase extension of M-SPP to achieve comparable convergence rates. Moreover, we derive a near-tight high probability (over the randomness of data) bound on the parameter estimation error of a sampling-without-replacement variant of M-SPP. Numerical evidences are provided to support our theoretical predictions when substantialized to Lasso and logistic regression models.

We calculate the dg algebra of global functions on commuting stacks of complex reductive groups using tools from Betti Geometric Langlands. In particular, we prove that the ring of invariant functions on the commuting scheme is reduced. Our main technical results include: a semi-orthogonal decomposition of the cocenter of the affine Hecke category; and the calculation of endomorphisms of a Whittaker sheaf in a diagram organizing parabolic induction of character sheaves.

Planar Turán number of disjoint union of $C_3$ and $C_4$
Authors:

Abstract:
The {\em planar Turán number} of $H$, denoted by $ex_{\mathcal{P}}(n,H)$, is the maximum number of edges in an $H$-free planar graph. The planar Turán number of $k\geq 3$ vertex-disjoint union of cycles is a trivial value $3n-6$. Lan, Shi and Song determine the exact value of $ex_{\mathcal{P}}(n,2C_3)$. We continue to study planar Turán number of vertex-disjoint union of cycles and obtain the exac…

We continue to study planar Turán number of vertex-disjoint union of cycles and obtain the exact value of $ex_{\mathcal{P}}(n,H)$, where $H$ is vertex-disjoint union of $C_3$ and $C_4$. The extremal graphs are also characterized. We also improve the lower bound of $ex_{\mathcal{P}}(n,2C_k)$ when $k$ is sufficiently large.

Homotopy Types of Suspended $4$-manifolds
Authors:

Abstract:
Given a closed, smooth, connected, orientable $4$-manifold $M$, whose integral homology groups can have $2$-torsion, we determine the homotopy decomposition of the double suspension $Σ^2M$ as wedge sums of some elementary $\mathbf{A}_3^3$-complexes, which are $2$-connected finite complexes of dimension at most $6$. Furthermore, we utilize the Postnikov square (or equivalently Pontryagin square) to…

On Catoni's M-Estimation
Authors:

Abstract:
Catoni proposed a robust M-estimator and gave the deviation inequality for one fixed test function. The present paper is devoted to the uniform concentration inequality for a family of test functions. As an application, we consider empirical risk minimization for heavy-tailed losses.

We consider the inverse random potential scattering problem for the two- and three-dimensional biharmonic wave equation in lossy media. The potential is assumed to be a microlocally isotropic Gaussian rough field. The main contributions of the work are twofold. First, the unique continuation principle is proved for the fourth order biharmonic wave equation with rough potentials and the well-posedness of the direct scattering problem is established in the distribution sense. Second, the correlation strength of the random potential is shown to be uniquely determined by the high frequency limit of the second moment of the scattered field averaged over the frequency band. Moreover, we demonstrate that the expectation in the data can be removed and the data of a single realization is sufficient for the uniqueness of the inverse problem with probability one when the medium is lossless.

We establish a vanishing theorem for uniformly RC $k$-positive Hermitian holomorphic vector bundles, and show that the holomorphic tangent bundle of a compact complex manifold equipped with a positive $k$-Ricci curvature Kähler metric (or more generally a positive $k$-Ricci curvature Kähler-like Hermitian metric) is uniformly RC $k$-positive. Two main applications are presented. The first one is to deduce that spaces of some holomorphic tensor fields on such Kähler or Hermitian manifolds are trivial, generalizing some recent results. The second one is to show that a compact Kähler manifold whose holomorphic tangent bundle can be endowed with either a uniformly RC $k$-positive Hermitian metric or a positive $k$-Ricci curvature Kähler-like Hermitian metric is projective and rationally connected.
