Permutations whose reverse shares the same recording tableau in the RSK correspondence
Abstract: The RSK correspondence is a bijection between permutations and pairs of standard Young tableaux with identical shape, where the tableaux are commonly denoted $P$ (insertion) and $Q$ (recording). It has been an open problem to demonstrate… ▽ More

The topology of Gelfand-Zeitlin fibers
Abstract: We prove several new results about the topology of fibers of Gelfand--Zeitlin systems on unitary and orthogonal coadjoint orbits, at the same time finding a unifying framework recovering and shedding light on essentially all known results. We find completely explicit descriptions of the diffeomorphism type of the fiber in many instances a direct factor decomposition of the fiber, and a torus facto… ▽ More

A local normal form for Hamiltonian actions of compact semisimple Poisson-Lie groups
Abstract: The main contribution of this manuscript is a local normal form for Hamiltonian actions of Poisson-Lie groups $K$ on a symplectic manifold equipped with an $AN$-valued moment map, where $AN$ is the dual Poisson-Lie group of $K$. Our proof uses the delinearization theorem of Alekseev which relates a classical Hamiltonian action of $K$ with $\mathfrak{k}^*$-valued moment map to a Hamiltonian action… ▽ More

Stratified Gradient Hamiltonian Vector Fields and Collective Integrable Systems
Abstract: We construct completely integrable torus actions on the dual Lie algebra of any compact Lie group $K$ with respect to the standard Lie-Poisson structure. These systems generalize properties of Gelfand-Zeitlin systems for unitary and orthogonal Lie groups: 1) the pullback to any Hamiltonian $K$-manifold is an integrable torus action, 2) if the $K$-manifold is multiplicity free, then the torus actio… ▽ More

Action-angle coordinates on coadjoint orbits and multiplicity free spaces from partial tropicalization
Abstract: Coadjoint orbits and multiplicity free spaces of compact Lie groups are important examples of symplectic manifolds with Hamiltonian groups actions. Constructing action-angle variables on these spaces is a challenging task. A fundamental result in the field is the Guillemin-Sternberg construction of Gelfand-Zeitlin integrable systems for the groups $K=U(n), SO(n)$. Extending these results to groups… ▽ More

Local normal forms for multiplicity free $U(n)$ actions on coadjoint orbits
Abstract: Actions of $U(n)$ on $U(n+1)$ coadjoint orbits via embeddings of $U(n)$ into $U(n+1)$ are an important family of examples of multiplicity free spaces. They are related to Gelfand-Zeitlin completely integrable systems and multiplicity free branching rules in representation theory. This paper computes the Hamiltonian local normal forms of all such actions, at arbitrary points, in arbitrary $U(n+1)$… ▽ More

Dual-Reference Design for Holographic Coherent Diffraction Imaging
Abstract: A new reference design is introduced for holographic coherent diffraction imaging. This consists in two references - "block" and "pinhole" shaped regions - placed adjacent to the imaging specimen. An efficient recovery algorithm is provided for the resulting holographic phase retrieval problem, which is based on solving a structured, overdetermined linear system. Analysis of the expected recovery… ▽ More

Holographic Phase Retrieval and Reference Design
Abstract: A general mathematical framework and recovery algorithm is presented for the holographic phase retrieval problem. In this problem, which arises in holographic coherent diffraction imaging, a "reference" portion of the signal to be recovered via phase retrieval is a priori known from experimental design. A generic formula is also derived for the expected recovery error when the measurement data is… ▽ More

Concentration of symplectic volumes on Poisson homogeneous spaces
Abstract: For a compact Poisson-Lie group $K$, the homogeneous space $K/T$ carries a family of symplectic forms $ω_ξ^s$, where $ξ\in \mathfrak{t}^*_+$ is in the positive Weyl chamber and $s \in \mathbb{R}$. The symplectic form $ω_ξ^0$ is identified with the natural $K$-invariant symplectic form on the $K$ coadjoint orbit corresponding to $ξ$. The cohomology class of $ω_ξ^s$ is independent of $s$ for a fixed… ▽ More

The $U(n)$ Gelfand-Zeitlin system as a tropical limit of Ginzburg-Weinstein diffeomorphisms
Abstract: We show that the Ginzburg-Weinstein diffeomorphism $\mathfrak{u}(n)^* \to U(n)^*$ of Alekseev-Meinrenken admits a scaling tropical limit on an open dense subset of $\mathfrak{u}(n)^*$. The target of the limit map is a product $\mathcal{C} \times T$, where $\mathcal{C}$ is the interior of a cone, $T$ is a torus, and $\mathcal{C} \times T$ carries an integrable system with natural action-angle coord… ▽ More

The geometric structure of symplectic contraction
Abstract: We show that the symplectic contraction map of Hilgert-Manon-Martens -- a symplectic version of Popov's horospherical contraction -- is simply the quotient of a Hamiltonian manifold $M$ by a "stratified null foliation" that is determined by the group action and moment map. We also show that the quotient differential structure on the symplectic contraction of $M$ supports a Poisson bracket. We end… ▽ More

A completely integrable system on $G_2$ coadjoint orbits
Abstract: We construct a Gelfand-Zeitlin system on a one-parameter family of $G_2$ coadjoint orbits that are multiplicity-free Hamiltonian $SU(3)$-spaces. Using this system we prove a lower bound for the Gromov width of these orbits. This lower bound agrees with the known upper bound.

Convexity and Thimm's Trick
Abstract: In this paper we prove a convexity and fibre-connectedness theorem for proper maps constructed by Thimm's trick on a connected Hamiltonian $G$-space $M$ that generate a Hamiltonian torus action on an open dense submanifold. Since these maps only generate a Hamiltonian torus action on an open dense submanifold of $M$, convexity and fibre-connectedness do not follow immediately from Atiyah-Guillemin… ▽ More

Electric Potential Due to a System of Conducting Spheres
Abstract: Equations describing the complete series of image charges for a system of conducting spheres are presented. The method of image charges, originally described by J. C. Maxwell in 1873, has been and continues to be a useful method for solving many three dimensional electrostatic problems. Here we demonstrate that as expected when the series is truncated to any finite order N, the electric field re… ▽ More
