Abstract:
In this article we study two discrete curvature notions, Bakry-Émery curvature and Ollivier Ricci curvature, on Cayley graphs. We introduce Right Angled Artin-Coxeter Hybrids (RAACHs) generalizing Right Angled Artin and Coxeter groups (RAAGs and RACGs) and derive the curvatures of Cayley graphs of certain RAACHs. Moreover, we show for general finitely presented groups…

Moreover, we show for general finitely presented groups $Γ= \langle S \, \mid\, R \rangle$ that addition of relators does not lead to a decrease the weighted curvatures of their Cayley graphs with adapted weighting schemes.

Abstract:
In this paper, we compare Ollivier Ricci curvature and Bakry-Émery curvature notions on combinatorial graphs and discuss connections to various types of Ricci flatness. We show that non-negativity of Ollivier Ricci curvature implies non-negativity of Bakry-Émery curvature under triangle-freeness and an additional in-degree condition. We also provide examples that both conditions of this result are necessary. We investigate relations to graph products and show that Ricci flatness is preserved under all natural products. While non-negativity of both curvatures are preserved under Cartesian products, we show that in the case of strong products, non-negativity of Ollivier Ricci curvature is only preserved for horizontal and vertical edges. We also prove that all distance-regular graphs of girth $4$ attain their maximal possible curvature values.

Abstract:
We classify all connected, simple, 3-regular graphs with girth at least 5 that are Ricci-flat. We use the definition of Ricci curvature on graphs given in Lin-Lu-Yau, Tohoku Math., 2011, which is a variation of Ollivier, J. Funct. Anal., 2009. A graph is Ricci-flat, if it has vanishing Ricci curvature on all edges. We show, that the only Ricci-flat cubic graphs with girth at least 5 are the Peters…

A graph is Ricci-flat, if it has vanishing Ricci curvature on all edges. We show, that the only Ricci-flat cubic graphs with girth at least 5 are the Petersen graph, the Triplex and the dodecahedral graph. This will correct the classification in Lin-Lu-Yau, Comm. Anal. Geom., 2014, that misses the Triplex.

We classify all cubic graphs with either non-negative Ollivier-Ricci curvature or non-negative Bakry-Émery curvature everywhere. We show in both curvature notions that the non-negatively curved graphs are the prism graphs and the Möbius ladders. We also highlight an online tool for calculating the curvature of graphs under several variants of these curvature notions that we use in the classification. As a consequence of the classification result we show, that non-negatively curved cubic expanders do not exist.

In this article we study surface subgroups of groups acting simply transitively on vertex sets of certain hyperbolic triangular buildings. Kangaslampi and Vdovina have constructed and classified all groups acting simply transitively on the vertices of hyperbolic triangular buildings of the smallest non-trivial thickness. These groups gave the first examples of cocompact lattices acting simply transitively on vertices of hyperbolic triangular Kac-Moody buildings that are not right-angled. The hyperbolic buildings arise as universal covers of polyhedra glued together from with 15 triangular faces with words written on the boundary. Later they proved, that most of the obtained 23 torsion free groups do not admit periodic planes of genus 2. Here we take another approach to study surface subgroups of these groups. Namely, we consider first 2-cycles in the 1-vertex polyhedron defined by the triangles, then in the 3-vertex cover of this polyhedron. As a result we find surface subgroups in three of the 23 torsion free groups.

We study surface subgroups of groups acting simply transitively on vertex sets of certain hyperbolic triangular buildings. The study is motivated by Gromov's famous surface subgroup question: Does every one-ended hyperbolic group contain a subgroup which is isomorphic to the fundamental group of a closed surface of genus at least 2? Here we consider surface subgroups of the 23 torsion free groups acting simply transitively on the vertices of hyperbolic triangular buildings of the smallest non-trivial thickness. These groups gave the first examples of cocompact lattices acting simply transitively on vertices of hyperbolic triangular Kac-Moody buildings that are not right-angled. With the help of computer searches we show, that in most of the cases there are no periodic apartments invariant under the action of a genus two surface. The existence of such an action would imply the existence of a surface subgroup, but it is not known, whether the existence of a surface subgroup implies the existence of a periodic apartment. These groups are the first candidates for groups that have no surface subgroups arising from periodic apartments.

Our classification shows 23 non-isomorphic torsion free groups (obtained in an earlier work) and 168 non-isomorphic torsion groups acting on one of two possible buildings with the smallest thick generalized quadrangle as the link of each vertex. In analogy with the Euclidean case, we find both torsion and torsion free groups acting on the same building.

Abstract:
We construct triangular hyperbolic polyhedra whose links are generalized 4-gons. The universal cover of those polyhedra are hyperbolic buildings, which appartments are hyperbolic planes tesselated by regular triangles with angles $π/4$. Moreover, the fundamental groups of the polyhedra acts simply transitively on vertices of the buildings.
