We derive an explicit formula for Goto's scalar curvature, and show that it is constant for generalized Kähler-Ricci solitons. Restricting to the generically symplectic type case, we realize the generalized Kähler class as the complexified orbit of the Hamiltonian action above. This leads to a natural extension of Mabuchi's metric and $K$-energy, implying a conditional uniqueness result. Finally, in this setting we derive a Calabi-Matsushima-Lichnerowicz obstruction and a Futaki invariant.

For $\ell=1, \, d_1=n-1, \, d_2=\cdots = d_{\ell}=0$ we obtain Cao's example [17] whereas for other partitions the metrics are new. Furthermore, when $n=2, \, \ell=2, \, d_1=d_2=0$ we obtain complete gradient steady Kähler--Ricci solitons on $\mathbb{C}^2$ which have positive sectional curvature but are not isometric to Cao's ${\rm U}(2)$-invariant example. This disproves a conjecture by Cao. We also present a construction yielding explicit families of complete gradient steady Kähler-Ricci solitons on $\mathbb{C}^n$ containing higher dimensional extensions of the Taub-NUT Ricci-flat Kähler metric on $\mathbb{C}^2$. When $n\ge 3$, the complete Ricci-flat Kähler metrics, and when $n\ge 2$, their deformations to complete gradient steady Kähler Ricci solitons seem not to have been observed before our work.

On a compact complex manifold $(M, J)$ endowed with a holomorphic Poisson tensor $π_J$ and a deRham class $α\in H^2(M, \mathbb R)$, we study the space of generalized Kähler (GK) structures defined by a symplectic form $F\in α$ and whose holomorphic Poisson tensor is $π_J$. We define a notion of generalized Kähler class of such structures, and use the moment map framework of Boulanger and Goto to extend the Calabi program to GK geometry. We obtain generalizations of the Futaki--Mabuchi extremal vector field and Calabi--Lichnerowicz--Matsushima result for the Lie algebra of the group of automorphisms of $(M, J, π_J)$. We define a closed $1$-form on a GK class, which yields a generalization of the Mabuchi energy and thus a variational characterization of GK structures of constant scalar curvature. Next we introduce a formal Riemannian metric on a given GK class, generalizing the fundamental construction of Mabuchi--Semmes--Donaldson. We show that this metric has nonpositive sectional curvature, and that the Mabuchi energy is convex along geodesics, leading to a conditional uniqueness result for constant scalar curvature GK structures. We finally examine the toric case, proving the uniqueness of extremal generalized Kähler structures and showing that their existence is obstructed by the uniform relative K-stability of the corresponding Delzant polytope. Using the resolution of the Yau--Tian--Donaldson conjecture in the toric case by Chen--Cheng and He, we show in some settings that this condition suffices for existence and thus construct new examples.

We formulate an extension of the Calabi conjecture to the setting of generalized Kähler geometry. We show a transgression formula for the Bismut Ricci curvature in this setting, which requires a new local Goto/Kodaira-Spencer deformation result, and use it to show that solutions of the generalized Calabi-Yau equation on compact manifolds are classically Kähler, Calabi-Yau, and furthermore unique in their generalized Kähler class. We show that the generalized Kähler-Ricci flow is naturally adapted to this conjecture, and exhibit a number of a priori estimates and monotonicity formulas which suggest global existence and convergence. For initial data in the generalized Kähler class of a Kähler Calabi-Yau structure we prove the flow exists globally and converges to this unique fixed point. This has applications to understanding the space of generalized Kähler structures, and as a special case yields the topological structure of natural classes of Hamiltonian symplectomorphisms on hyperKähler manifolds. In the case of commuting-type generalized Kähler structures we establish global existence and convergence with arbitrary initial data to a Kähler, Calabi-Yau metric, which yields a new $d d^c$-lemma for these structures.

These lecture notes are written for a PhD mini-course I gave at the CIRM in Luminy in 2019. Their intended purpose was to present, in the context of smooth toric varieties, a relatively self-contained and elementary introduction to the theory of extremal Kähler metrics pioneered by E. Calabi in the 1980's and extensively developed in recent years. The framework of toric manifolds, used in both symplectic and algebraic geometry, offers a fertile testing ground for the general theory of extremal Kähler metrics and provides an important class of smooth complex varieties for which the existence theory is now understood in terms of a stability condition of the corresponding Delzant polytope. The notes do not contain any original material nor do they take into account some more recent developments, such as the non-Archimedean approach to the Calabi problem. I am making them available on the arXiv because I continue to get questions about how they can be cited.

We use this to prove that the set of Lee deRham classes of taming LCS is connected, as well as to obtain an explicit negative upper bound for this set on the hyperbolic Kato surfaces. This leads to a complete description of the sets of Lee classes on the known examples of class VII complex surfaces, and to a new obstruction to the existence of bi-hermitian structures on the hyperbolic Kato surfaces of the intermediate type. Our results also reveal a link between bounds of the set of Lee classes and non-trivial logarithmic holomorphic $1$-forms with values in a flat holomorphic line bundle.

We show that a compact weighted extremal Kahler manifold (as defined by the third named author) has coercive weighted Mabuchi energy with respect to a maximal complex torus in the reduced group of complex automorphisms. This provides a vast extension and a unification of a number of results concerning Kahler metrics satisfying special curvature conditions, including constant scalar curvature Kahler metrics, extremal Kahler metrics, Kahler-Ricci solitons and their weighted extensions.
Our result implies the strict positivity of the weighted Donaldson-Futaki invariant of any non-product equivariant smooth Kähler test configuration with reduced central fibre, a property also known as weighted K-polystability on such test configurations. For a class of fibre-bundles, we use our result in conjunction with the recent results of Chen-Cheng, He, and Han-Li in order to characterize the existence of extremal Kahler metrics and Calabi-Yau cones associated to the total space, in terms of the coercivity of the weighted Mabuchi energy of the fibre. In particular, this yields an existence result for Sasaki-Einstein metrics on Fano toric fibrations, extending the results of Futaki-Ono-Wang in the toric Fano case, and of Mabuchi-Nakagawa in the case of Fano projective line bundles.

We show that the (relative) weighted K-stability with respect to a maximal torus is a necessary condition for the existence of a (possibly irregular) extremal Sasaki metric. We also compare weighted K-stability to the K-stability of the corresponding polarized affine cone (introduced by Collins-Szekelyhidi), and prove that they agree on the class of test configurations we consider. As a byproduct, we strengthen the obstruction to the existence of a scalar-flat Kahler cone metric from the K-semistability to the K-stability on these test configurations. We use our approach to give a characterization of the existence of a compatible extremal Sasaki structure on a principal circle bundle over an admissible ruled manifold, expressed in terms of the positivity of a single polynomial of one variable over a given interval.

The corresponding pairs of Kahler metrics arise as transversal Kahler structures of Sasaki metrics compatible with the same CR structure and having commuting Sasaki--Reeb vector fields. This correspondence extends to higher dimensions using the notion of a weighted extremal Kahler metric, illuminating and uniting several explicit constructions in Kahler and Sasaki geometry. It also leads to new existence and non-existence results for extremal Sasaki metrics, suggesting a link between notions of relative weighted K-stability for a polarized variety, and relative K-stability of the Kahler cone corresponding to a Sasaki polarization.

We study the existence of weighted extremal Kähler metrics in the sense of Apostolov-Calderbank-Gauduchon-Legendre and Lahdili on the total space of an admissible projective bundle over a Hodge Kähler manifold of constant scalar curvature. Admissible projective bundles have been defined by Apostolov-Calderbank-Gauduchon-Tønnesen-Friedman, and they include the projective line bundles (Hwang-Singer) and their blow-downs (Koiso-Sakane), thus providing a most general setting for extending the existence theory for extremal Kähler metrics pioneered by a seminal construction of Calabi. We obtain a general existence result for weighted extremal metrics on admissible manifolds, which yields many new examples of conformally Kähler, Einstein-Maxwell metrics of complex dimension $m>2$, thus extending the recent constructions of LeBrun and Koca-Tønnesen-Friedman to higher dimensions. For each admissible Kähler class on an admissible projective bundle, we associate an explicit function of one variable and show that if it is positive on the interval $(-1,1)$, then there exists a weighted extremal Kähler metric in the given class, whereas if it is strictly negative somewhere in $(-1,1)$, there is no Kähler metrics of constant weighted scalar curvature in that class. We also relate the positivity of the function to a notion of weighted K-stability, thus establishing a Yau-Tian-Donaldson type correspondence for the existence of Kähler metrics of constant weighted scalar curvature in the rational admissible Kähler classes on an admissible projective bundle. Weighted extremal orthotoric metrics are examined in an appendix.

After defining natural Hamiltonian deformation spaces for generalized Kähler structures generalizing the notion of Kähler class, we conjecture unique solvability of Gualtieri's Calabi-Yau equation within this class. We establish the uniqueness, and moreover show that all such solutions are actually hyper-Kähler metrics. We furthermore establish a GIT framework for this problem, interpreting solutions of this equation as zeros of a moment map associated to a Hamiltonian action and finding a Kempf-Ness functional. Lastly we indicate the naturality of generalized Kähler-Ricci flow in this setting, showing that it evolves within the given Hamiltonian deformation class, and that the Kempf-Ness functional is monotone, so that the only possible fixed points for the flow are hyper-Kähler metrics. On a given compact complex manifold or orbifold $(M,J)$, we study the existence of Hermitian metrics $\tilde g$ in the conformal classes of Kähler metrics on $(M,J)$, such that the Ricci tensor of $\tilde g$ is of type $(1,1)$ with respect to the complex structure, and the scalar curvature of $\tilde g$ is constant. In real dimension $4$, such Hermitian metrics provide a Riemannian counter-part of the Einstein--Maxwell (EM) equations in general relativity, and have been recently studied in \cite{ambitoric1, LeB0, LeB, KTF}. We show how the existence problem of such Hermitian metrics (which we call in any dimension {\it conformally Kähler, EM} metrics) fits into a formal momentum map interpretation, analogous to results by Donaldson and Fujiki~\cite{donaldson, fujiki} in the cscK case. This leads to a suitable notion of a Futaki invariant which provides an obstruction to the existence of conformally Kähler, EM metrics invariant under a certain group of automorphisms which are associated to a given Kähler class, a real holomorphic vector field on $(M,J)$, and a positive normalization constant. Specializing to the toric case, we further define a suitable notion of $K$-polystability and show it provides a (stronger) necessary condition for the existence of toric, conformally Kähler, EM metrics. We use the methods of \cite{ambitoric2} to show that on a compact symplectic toric $4$-orbifold with second Betti number equal to $2$, $K$-polystability is also a sufficient condition for the existence of (toric) conformally Kähler, EM metrics, and the latter are explicitly described as ambitoric in the sense of \cite{ambitoric1}. As an application, we exhibit many new examples of conformally Kähler, EM metrics defined on compact $4$-orbifolds, and obtain a uniqueness result for the construction in \cite{LeB0}.

We provide an explicit resolution of the existence problem for extremal Kaehler metrics on toric 4-orbifolds M with second Betti number b2(M)=2. More precisely we show that M admits such a metric if and only if its rational Delzant polytope (which is a labelled quadrilateral) is K-polystable in the relative, toric sense (as studied by S. Donaldson, E. Legendre, G. Szekelyhidi et al.). Furthermore, in this case, the extremal Kaehler metric is ambitoric, i.e., compatible with a conformally equivalent, oppositely oriented toric Kaehler metric, which turns out to be extremal as well. These results provide a computational test for the K-stability of labelled quadrilaterals.
Extremal ambitoric structures were classified locally in Part I of this work, but herein we only use the straightforward fact that explicit Kaehler metrics obtained there are extremal, and the identification of Bach-flat (conformally Einstein) examples among them. Using our global results, the latter yield countably infinite families of compact toric Bach-flat Kaehler orbifolds, including examples which are globally conformally Einstein, and examples which are conformal to complete smooth Einstein metrics on an open subset, thus extending the work of many authors.

We present a local classification of conformally equivalent but oppositely oriented 4-dimensional Kaehler metrics which are toric with respect to a common 2-torus action. In the generic case, these "ambitoric" structures have an intriguing local geometry depending on a quadratic polynomial q and arbitrary functions A and B of one variable.
We use this description to classify Einstein 4-metrics which are hermitian with respect to both orientations, as well a class of solutions to the Einstein-Maxwell equations including riemannian analogues of the Plebanski-Demianski metrics. Our classification can be viewed as a riemannian analogue of a result in relativity due to R. Debever, N. Kamran, and R. McLenaghan, and is a natural extension of the classification of selfdual Einstein hermitian 4-manifolds, obtained independently by R. Bryant and the first and third authors.
These Einstein metrics are precisely the ambitoric structures with vanishing Bach tensor, and thus have the property that the associated toric Kaehler metrics are extremal (in the sense of E. Calabi). Our main results also classify the latter, providing new examples of explicit extremal Kaehler metrics. For both the Einstein-Maxwell and the extremal ambitoric structures, A and B are quartic polynomials, but with different conditions on the coefficients. In the sequel to this paper we consider global examples, and use them to resolve the existence problem for extremal Kaehler metrics on toric 4-orbifolds with second betti number b2=2.

We give an explicit local classification of conformally equivalent but oppositely oriented Kaehler metrics on a 4-manifold which are toric with respect to a common 2-torus action. In the generic case, these structures have an intriguing local geometry depending on a quadratic polynomial and two arbitrary functions of one variable, these two functions being explicit degree 4 polynomials when the Kaehler metrics are extremal (in the sense of Calabi).
One motivation for and application of this result is an explicit local description of Einstein 4-manifolds which are hermitian with respect to either orientation. This can be considered as a riemannian analogue of a result in General Relativity due to R. Debever, N. Kamran, and R. McLenaghan, and is a natural extension of the classification of selfdual Einstein hermitian 4-manifolds, obtained independently by R. Bryant and the first and third authors.
We discuss toric compactifications of these metrics on orbifolds and provide infinite discrete families of compact toric extremal Kaehler orbifolds. Our examples include Bach-flat Kaehler orbifolds which are conformal to complete smooth Einstein metrics on an open subset. We illustrate how these examples fit with recent conjectures relating the existence of extremal toric metrics to various notions of stability.

Let $M=P(E)$ be the complex manifold underlying the total space of the projectivization of a holomorphic vector bundle $E \to Σ$ over a compact complex curve $Σ$ of genus $\ge 2$. Building on ideas of Fujiki, we prove that $M$ admits a Kähler metric of constant scalar curvature if and only if $E$ is polystable. We also address the more general existence problem of extremal Kähler metrics on such bundles and prove that the splitting of $E$ as a direct sum of stable subbundles is necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of extremal Kähler metrics in sufficiently small Kähler classes. The methods used to prove the above results apply to a wider class of manifolds, called {\it rigid toric bundles over a semisimple base}, which are fibrations associated to a principal torus bundle over a product of constant scalar curvature Kähler manifolds with fibres isomorphic to a given toric Kähler variety. We discuss various ramifications of our approach to this class of manifolds.

We construct many new examples of WBF metrics on projective bundles and obtain a classification of compact WBF Kahler 6-manifolds, extending work by the first three authors on weakly selfdual Kahler 4-manifolds. This paper concerns the explicit construction of extremal Kaehler metrics on total spaces of projective bundles, which have been studied in many places. We present a unified approach, motivated by the theory of hamiltonian 2-forms (as introduced and studied in previous papers in the series) but this paper is largely independent of that theory.
We obtain a characterization, on a large family of projective bundles, of those `admissible' Kaehler classes (i.e., the ones compatible with the bundle structure in a way we make precise) which contain an extremal Kaehler metric. In many cases, such as on geometrically ruled surfaces, every Kaehler class is admissible. In particular, our results complete the classification of extremal Kaehler metrics on geometrically ruled surfaces, answering several long-standing questions.
We also find that our characterization agrees with a notion of K-stability for admissible Kaehler classes. Our examples and nonexistence results therefore provide a fertile testing ground for the rapidly develo** theory of stability for projective varieties, and we discuss some of the ramifications. In particular we obtain examples of projective varieties which are destabilized by a non-algebraic degeneration.

2. Hamiltonian 2-forms in Kahler geometry IV: Weakly Bochner-flat Kahler manifolds, math.DG/0511119.
As the titles indicate, the first paper covers the parts of this withdrawn submission concerning extremal Kahler metrics, while the second one deals the weakly Bochner-flat Kahler metrics.
However, the material for the first paper has been substantially revised and extended with several new results.
1. The exposition has been expanded and clarified, and some technical errors and missing arguments have been corrected.
2. A new computation of the modified K-energy is used to obtain a characterization of the admissible Kahler classes which contain an extremal Kahler metric. In particular, these results complete the classification of extremal Kahler metrics on ruled surfaces.
3. The existence of extremal Kahler metrics is related to the notion of relative K-stability leading in particular to some examples of projective varieties which are destabilized by a non-algebraic degeneration.
We believe that these results add considerable interest to our work, and go far beyond the original paper, which is why we have chosen to withdraw this paper and post the replacements as new submissions.

We present a classification of compact Kaehler manifolds admitting a hamiltonian 2-form (which were classified locally in part I of this work). This involves two components of independent interest.
The first is the notion of a rigid hamiltonian torus action. This natural condition, for torus actions on a Kaehler manifold, was introduced locally in part I, but such actions turn out to be remarkably well behaved globally, leading to a fairly explicit classification: up to a blow-up, compact Kaehler manifolds with a rigid hamiltonian torus action are bundles of toric Kaehler manifolds.
The second idea is a special case of toric geometry, which we call orthotoric. We prove that orthotoric Kaehler manifolds are diffeomorphic to complex projective space, but we extend our analysis to orthotoric orbifolds, where the geometry is much richer. We thus obtain new examples of Kaehler--Einstein 4-orbifolds.
Combining these two themes, we prove that compact Kaehler manifolds with hamiltonian 2-forms are covered by blow-downs of projective bundles over Kaehler products, and we describe explicitly how the Kaehler metrics with a hamiltonian 2-form are parameterized. We explain how this provides a context for constructing new examples of extremal Kaehler metrics - in particular a subclass of such metrics which we call weakly Bochner-flat.
We also provide a self-contained treatment of the theory of compact toric Kaehler manifolds, since we need it and find the existing literature incomplete.

Hamiltonian 2-forms draw attention to a general construction of Kaehler metrics which interpolates between toric geometry and Calabi-like constructions of metrics on (projective) line bundles. They also arise on conformally-Einstein Kaehler manifolds. We explore these connections and ramifications.

It is proved that a compact Kahler manifold whose Ricci tensor has two distinct, constant, non-negative eigenvalues is locally the product of two Kahler-Einstein manifolds. A stronger result is established for the case of Kahler surfaces. Irreducible Kahler manifolds with two distinct, constant eigenvalues of the Ricci tensor are shown to exist in various situations: there are homogeneous examples of any complex dimension n > 1, if one eigenvalue is negative and the other positive or zero, and of any complex dimension n > 2, if the both eigenvalues are negative; there are non-homogeneous examples of complex dimension 2, if one of the eigenvalues is zero. The problem of existence of Kahler metrics whose Ricci tensor has two distinct, constant eigenvalues is related to the celebrated (still open) Goldberg conjecture. Consequently, the irreducible homogeneous examples with negative eigenvalues give rise to complete, Einstein, strictly almost Kahler metrics of any even real dimension greater than 4.
