Discrete non-commutative hungry Toda lattice and its application in matrix computation
Abstract: In this paper, we plan to show an eigenvalue algorithm for block Hessenberg matrices by using the idea of non-commutative integrable systems and matrix-valued orthogonal polynomials. We introduce adjacent families of matrix-valued $θ$-deformed bi-orthogonal polynomials, and derive corresponding discrete non-commutative hungry Toda lattice from discrete spectral transformations for polynomials. It… ▽ More

Minimum-dissipation model for large-eddy simulation using symmetry-preserving discretization in OpenFOAM
Abstract: The minimum-dissipation model is applied to channel flow up to $Re_τ= 2000$, flow past a circular cylinder at $Re=3900$, and flow over periodic hills at $Re=10595$. Numerical simulations were performed in OpenFOAM which is based on the finite volume methods. We used both symmetry-preserving and standard second-order accurate discretization methods in OpenFOAM on structured meshes. The results are… ▽ More

An inverse medium problem using Stekloff eigenvalues and a Bayesian approach
Abstract: This paper studies the reconstruction of Stekloff eigenvalues and the index of refraction of an inhomogeneous medium from Cauchy data. The inverse spectrum problem to reconstruct Stekloff eigenvalues is investigated using a new integral equation for the reciprocity gap method. Given reconstructed eigenvalues, a Bayesian approach is proposed to estimate the index of refraction. Moreover, since it i… ▽ More

Numerical calculation of N-periodic wave solutions to coupled KdV-type equations
Abstract: In this paper, we study periodic wave solutions of coupled KdV-type equations. We present a numerical process to calculate the $N$-periodic waves based on the direct method of calculating periodic wave solutions proposed by Akira Nakamura. Particularly, in the case of $N=1,2,3$, we give some detailed examples to show the N-periodic wave solutions to a coupled Ramani equation.

We can't hear the shape of drum: revisited in 3D case
Abstract: Can one hear the shape of a drum? was proposed by Kac in 1966. The simple answer is NO as shown through the construction of iso-spectral domains. There already exists 17 families of planar domains which are non-isometric but display the same spectra of frequencies. These frequencies, deduced from the eigenvalues of the Laplacian, are determined by solving the wave equation in a domain, which is su… ▽ More

Direct and Inverse Elastic Scattering From Anisotropic Media
Abstract: Assume a time-harmonic elastic wave is incident onto a penetrable anisotropic body embedded into a homogeneous isotropic background medium. We propose an equivalent variational formulation in a truncated bounded domain and show the uniqueness and existence of weak solutions by applying the Fredholm alternative and using properties of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map in both two and three dimensions. Optimal synchronization of complex networks
Abstract: We study optimal synchronization in networks of heterogeneous phase oscillators. Our main result is the derivation of a synchrony alignment function that encodes the interplay between network structure and oscillators' frequencies and can be readily optimized. We highlight its utility in two general problems: constrained frequency allocation and network design. In general, we find that synchroniza… ▽ More

Polynomial Relations for q-Characters via the ODE/IM Correspondence
Abstract: Let $U_q(\mathfrak{b})$ be the Borel subalgebra of a quantum affine algebra of type $X^{(1)}_n$ ($X=A,B,C,D$). Guided by the ODE/IM correspondence in quantum integrable models, we propose conjectural polynomial relations among the $q$-characters of certain representations of $U_q(\mathfrak{b})$.

Convergence acceleration algorithm via an equation related to the lattice Boussinesq equation
Abstract: The molecule solution of an equation related to the lattice Boussinesq equation is derived with the help of determinantal identities. It is shown that this equation can for certain sequences be used as a numerical convergence acceleration algorithm. Numerical examples with applications of this algorithm are presented.

Confluent primary fields in the conformal field theory
Abstract: For any complex simple Lie algebra, we generalize primary fileds in the Wess-Zumino-Novikov-Witten conformal field theory with respect to the case of irregular singularities and we construct integral representations of hypergeometric functions of confluent type, as expectation values of products of generalized primary fields. In the case of sl(2), these integral representations coincide with solut… ▽ More

Confluent KZ equations for sl_N with Poincare rank 2 at infinity
Abstract: We construct confluent KZ equations with Poincare rank 2 at infinity for the case of sl_N and the integral representation for the solutions. Hamiltonians of these confluent KZ equations are derived from suitable quantization of dlog tau constructed in the theory of monodromy preserving deformation by Jimbo, Miwa and Ueno. Our confluent KZ equations may be viewed as a quantization of monodromy pres… ▽ More
