In this paper, we give a rigorous justification of the deviation of the primitive equations with only horizontal viscosity and magnetic diffusivity (PEHM) as the small aspect ratio limit of the incompressible three-dimensional scaled horizontal viscous MHD (SHMHD) equations. Choosing an aspect ratio parameter $\varepsilon \in(0,\infty)$, we consider the case that if the horizontal and vertical viscous coefficients are of $μ= O(1)$ and $ν= O({\varepsilon ^α})$, and the orders of magnetic diffusion coefficients $k$ and $σ$ are $k = O(1)$ and $σ= O({\varepsilon ^α})$, with $α> 2$, then the limiting system is the PEHM as $\varepsilon$ goes to zero. For ${H^1}$-initial data, we prove that the global weak solutions of the SHMHD equations converge strongly to the local-in-time strong solutions of the PEHM, as $\varepsilon$ tends to zero. For ${H^1}$-initial data with additional regularity $({\partial _z}{\tilde A_0},{\partial _z}{\tilde B_0}) \in {L^p}(Ω)(2<p<\infty)$, we slightly improve the well-posed result in \cite{2017-Cao-Li-Titi-Global} to extend the local-in-time strong convergences to the global-in-time one. For ${H^2}$-initial data, we show that the local-in-time strong solutions of the SHMHD equations converge strongly to the global-in-time strong solutions of the PEHM, as $\varepsilon$ goes to zero. Moreover, the rate of convergence is of the order $O({\varepsilon ^{γ/2}})$, where $γ= \min \{ 2,α- 2\}$ with $α\in (2,\infty )$. It should be noted that in contrast to the case $α> 2$, the case $α=2$ has been investigated by Du and Li in \cite{2023-Du-Li}, in which they consider the PEM and the rate of global-in-time convergences is of the order $O(\varepsilon)$.

Moreover, by applying this understanding to real-valued functions $V$, we confirm the conjecture concerning the geometric version of Borg's theorem in arbitrary dimensions.

In this work we establish a Freidlin-Wentzell type large deviation principle for stochastic nonlinear Schrodinger equation with either focusing or defocusing nonlinearity driven by nonlinear multiplicative Levy noise in the Marcus canonical form. One essential ingredient of the proof is a variant of the well-known large deviation criteria of Budhiraja, Chen, Dupuis, and Maroulas for functions of Poisson random measures, which is proposed by the third named author of this paper and his collaborators (Potential Anal. 2022). Obtaining the large deviation principle result is challenging in the current setting due to the presence of the nonlinear term, the lack of regularization effect of the Schrodinger operator and the absence of compactness of embeddings. To overcome these difficulties, we employ a regularization procedure based on Yosida approximations to handle the lack of regularization effect of the Schrodinger operator. Additionally, to tackle the absence of compact embeddings, we adopt several techniques including time discretization, cut-off arguments and relative entropy estimates of sequences of probability measures. This also distinguishes the current work from most of previous studies on large deviation principle of stochastic partial differential equations with Levy noise, which heavily rely on the compactness conditions.

We prove two rigidity theorems for discrete periodic Schrödinger operators:
(1) If real-valued $Γ$-periodic functions $V$ and $Y$ satisfy $Δ_{\rm discrete}+V$ and $Δ_{\rm discrete}+Y$ are Floquet isospectral and $Y$ is separable, then $V$ is separable.
(2) If complex-valued $Γ$-periodic functions $V$ and $Y$ satisfy $Δ_{\rm discrete}+V$ and $Δ_{\rm discrete}+Y$ are Floquet isospectral, and both $V=\bigoplus_{j=1}^rV_j$ and $Y=\bigoplus_{j=1}^r Y_j$ are separable functions, then, up to a constant, lower dimensional decompositions $V_j$ and $Y_j$ are Floquet isospectral, $j=1,2,\cdots,r$.
Our theorems extend the results of Kappeler. Our approach is developed from the author's recent work on Fermi isospectrality and can be applied to study more general lattices.

The exact elementary excitations in a typical U(1) symmetry broken quantum integrable system, that is the twisted J1-J2 spin chain with nearest-neighbor, next nearest neighbor and chiral three spin interactions, are studied. The main technique is that we quantify the energy spectrum of the system by the zero roots of transfer matrix instead of the traditional Bethe roots. From the numerical calculation and singularity analysis, we obtain the patterns of zero roots. Based on them, we analytically obtain the ground state energy and the elementary excitations in the thermodynamic limit. We find that the system also exhibits the nearly degenerate states in the regime of $η\in \mathbb{R}$, where the nearest-neighbor couplings among the z-direction are ferromagnetic. More careful study shows that the competing of interactions can induce the gapless low-lying excitations and quantum phase transition in the antiferromagnetic regime with $η\in \mathbb{R}+iπ$.

In this paper, we develop tools from complex analysis to study the isospectrality of discrete periodic Schrödinger operators. We prove that if two $Γ$-periodic potentials $X$ and $Y$ are Fermi isospectral and both $X=X_1\oplus X_2$ and $Y= Y_1\oplus Y_2$ are separable functions, then, up to a constant, one dimensional potentials $X_j$ and $Y_j$ are Floquet isospectral, $j=1,2$. This allows us to prove that for any non-constant separable real-valued $Γ$-periodic potential, the Fermi variety $F_λ(V)/\mathbb{Z}^2$ is irreducible for any $λ\in \mathbb{C}$, which partially confirms a conjecture of Gieseker, Knörrer and Trubowitz in the early 1990s.

Based on the scalar-tensor-vector modified gravitational theory, a modified gravity Schwarzschild black hole solution has been given in the existing literature. Such a black hole spacetime is obtained through the inclusion of a modified gravity coupling parameter, which corresponds to the modified gravitational constant and the black hole charge. In this sense, the modified gravity parameter acts as not only an enhanced gravitational effect but also a gravitational repulsive force contribution to a test particle moving around the black hole. Because the modified Schwarzschild spacetime is static spherical symmetric, it is integrable. However, the spherical symmetry and the integrability are destroyed when the black hole is immersed in an external asymptotic uniform magnetic field and the particle is charged. Although the magnetized modified Schwarzschild spacetime is nonintegrable and inseparable, it allows for the application of explicit symplectic integrators when its Hamiltonian is split into five explicitly integrable parts. Taking one of the proposed explicit symplectic integrators and the techniques of Poincare sections and fast Lyapunov indicators as numerical tools, we show that the charged particle can do chaotic motions under some circumstances. Chaos is strengthened with an increase of the modified gravity parameter from the global phase space structures. There are similar results when the magnetic field parameter and the particle energy increase. However, an increase of the particle angular momentum weakens the strength of chaos.

The main goal of this work is to examine the qualitative effect of ion sizes via a steady-state boundary value problem. We study a one-dimensional version of a Poisson-Nernst-Planck system with a local hard-sphere potential model for ionic flow through a membrane channel with fixed boundary ion concentrations and electric potentials. A complete set of integrals for the inner system is illustrated that delivers information for boundary and internal layers. In addition, a group of simultaneous equations appears in the construction of singular orbits. The research aims to set up a simple formation defined by the profile of permanent charges with two mobile ion species, one positively charged, cation, and one negatively charged, anion. A local hard-sphere potential that depends pointwise on ion concentrations is included in the model to estimate ion-size impacts on the ionic flow. The analysis is built on the geometric singular perturbation theory, particularly on specific structures of this concrete model. For 1:1 ionic mixtures, we first conduct precise mathematical analysis and derive a matching system of nonlinear algebraic equations. We then extend the results by directing on a critical case where the current is zero. Treating the ion sizes as small parameters, we derive an approximation of zero-current fluxes for general values of permanent charge. We then focus on small values of permanent charge to obtain more concrete outputs. We will also examine ion size effects on the flow rate of matter for the zero-current case.

We then prove the lack of exponential stability by a spectral analysis, and obtain the polynomial stability of the system by using a result of Borichev and Tomilov (Math. We prove three rigidity theorems for discrete periodic Schrödinger operators in any dimension $d\geq 3$:
(1) if at some energy level, Fermi varieties of the $Γ$-periodic potential $V$ and the $Γ$-periodic potential $Y$ are the same (this feature is referred to as {\it Fermi isospectrality} of $V$ and $Y$), and $Y $ is a separable function, then $V$ is separable;

In this paper, we investigate gradient estimate of the Poisson equation and the exponential convergence in the Wasserstein metric $W_{1,d_{l^1}}$, uniform in the number of particles, and uniform-in-time propagation of chaos for the mean-field weakly interacting particle system related to McKean-Vlasov equation. By means of the known approximate componentwise reflection coupling and with the help of some new cost function, we obtain explicit estimates for those three problems, avoiding the technical conditions in the known results. Our results apply when the confinement potential $V$ has many wells, the interaction potential $W$ has bounded second mixed derivative $\nabla^2_{xy}W$ which should be not too big so that there is no phase transition. As an application, we obtain the concentration inequality of the mean-field interacting particle system with explicit and sharp constants, uniform in time. Several examples are provided to illustrate the results.

where $Δ$ is the discrete Laplacian and $V: \mathbb{Z}^d\to \mathbb{C}$ is periodic. We prove that for any $d\geq3$, the Fermi variety at every energy level is irreducible (modulo periodicity). For $d=2$, we prove that the Fermi variety at every energy level except for the average of the potential is irreducible (modulo periodicity) and the Fermi variety at the average of the potential has at most two irreducible components (modulo periodicity). This is sharp since for $d=2$ and a constant potential $V$, the Fermi variety at $V$-level has exactly two irreducible components (modulo periodicity). We also prove that the Bloch variety is irreducible (modulo periodicity) for any $d\geq 2$. As applications, we prove that when $V$ is a real-valued periodic function, the level set of any extrema of any spectral band functions, spectral band edges in particular, has dimension at most $d-2$ for any $d\geq 3$, and finite cardinality for $d=2$. We also show that $H=-Δ+V+v$ does not have any embedded eigenvalues provided that $v$ decays super-exponentially.

In various subdisciplines of optics and photonics, Mie theory has been serving as a fundamental language and play indispensable roles widely. Conventional studies related to Mie scattering largely focus on local properties such as differential cross sections and angular polarization distributions. Though spatially integrated features of total cross sections in terms of both scattering and absorption are routine for investigations, they are intrinsically dependent on the specific morphologies of both the scattering bodies and the incident waves, consequently manifesting no sign of global invariance. Here we propose global Mie scattering theory to explore topological invariants for characterizations of scatterings by any obstacles of arbitrarily structured or polarized coherent light. It is revealed that, independent of distributions and interactions among the scattering bodies of arbitrary geometric and optical parameters, in the far field inevitably there are directions where the scatterings are either zero or circularly polarized. Furthermore, for each such singular direction we can assign a half-integer index and the index sum of all those directions are bounded to be a global topological invariant of $2$. The global Mie theory we propose, which is mathematically simple but conceptually penetrating, can render new perspectives for light scattering and topological photonics in both linear and nonlinear regimes, and would potentially shed new light on the scattering of acoustic and matter waves of various forms.

Electromagnetic multipoles can be continuously mapped to tangent vectors on the momentum sphere, the topology of which guarantees the existence of isolated singularities. For pure (real or imaginary) vectors, those singularities correspond to zeros of tangent fields, which can be classified by integer Poincaré indices. Nevertheless, electromagnetic fields are generally complex vectors, a comprehensive characterization of which requires the introduction of line fields and line singularities categorized by half-integer Hopf indices. Here we explore complex vectorial electromagnetic multipoles from the perspective of line singularities, focusing on the special case of polarization line field. Similar to the case of pure vectors, the Poincaré-Hopf theorem forces the index sum of all line singularities to be $2$, irrespective of the specific multipolar compositions. With this multipolar insight, we further unveil the underlying structures of radiative circularly-polarized Bloch modes of photonic crystal slabs, revealing their topological origins with line singularities of Hopf indices. Our work has established subtle connections between three seemingly unrelated but swee** physical entities (line singularities of Hopf indices, electromagnetic multipoles, and Bloch modes), which can nourish new frames of visions and applications fertilizing many related fields.

We illustrate an isomorphic representation of the observable algebra for quantum mechanics in terms of the functions on the projective Hilbert space, and its Hilbert space analog, with a noncommutative product in terms of explicit coordinates and discuss the physical and dynamical picture. The isomorphism is then used as a base for the translation of the differential symplectic geometry of the infinite dimensional manifolds onto the observable algebra as a noncommutative geometry. Hence, we obtain the latter from the physical theory itself. We have essentially an extended formalism of the Schrodinger versus Heisenberg picture which we describe mathematically as like a coordinate map from the phase space, for which we have presented argument to be seen as the quantum model of the physical space, to the noncommutative geometry coordinated by the six position and momentum operators. The observable algebra is taken essentially as an algebra of formal functions on the latter operators. The work formulates the intuitive idea that the noncommutative geometry can be seen as an alternative, noncommutative coordinate, picture of familiar quantum phase space, at least so long as the symplectic geometry is concerned.

We discuss the notion about physical quantities as having values represented by real numbers, and its limiting to describe nature to be understood in relation to our appreciation that the quantum theory is a better theory of natural phenomena than its classical analog. Getting from the algebra of physical observables to their values on a fixed state is, at least for classical physics, really a homomorphic map from the algebra into the real number algebra. The limitation of the latter to represent the values of quantum observables with noncommutating algebraic relation is obvious. We introduce and discuss the idea of the noncommutative values of quantum observables and its feasibility, arguing that at least in terms of the representation of such a value as an infinite set of complex number, the idea makes reasonable sense theoretically as well as practically.

Electromagnetic multipoles have been broadly adopted as a fundamental language throughout photonics, of which general features such as radiation patterns and polarization distributions are generically known, while their singularities and topological properties have mostly slipped into oblivion. Here we map all the singularities of multipolar radiations of different orders, identify their indexes, and show explicitly the index sum over the entire momentum sphere is always $2$, consistent with the Poincaré-Hopf theorem. Upon those revealed properties, we can attribute the formation of bound states in the continuum to overlap** of multipolar singularities with open radiation channels. This insight unveils a subtle connection between indexes of multipolar singularities and topological charges of those bound states, revealing that essentially they are the same. Our work has fused two fundamental and swee** concepts of multipoles and topologies, which can potentially bring unforeseen opportunities for many multipole related fields within and beyond photonics.

It is an interesting and important problem to identify the perturbation such that the operator $H_0+V$ has one eigenvalue (finitely many eigenvalues or countable eigenvalues) embedded into $(-2,2)$.
We introduce the {\it almost sign type potential } and develop the Prüfer transformation to address this problem, which leads to the following five results. \begin{description}
\item[1] We obtain the sharp spectral transition for the existence of irrational type eigenvalues or rational type eigenvalues with even denominator.
\item[2] Suppose $\limsup_{n\to \infty} n|V(n)|=a<\infty.$ We obtain a lower/upper bound of $a$ such that $H_0+V$ has one rational type eigenvalue with odd denominator.
\item[3] We obtain the asymptotical behavior of embedded eigenvalues around the boundaries of $(-2,2)$.
\item [4]Given any finite set of points $\{ E_j\}_{j=1}^N$ in $(-2,2)$ with $0\notin \{ E_j\}_{j=1}^N+\{ E_j\}_{j=1}^N$, we construct potential $V(n)=\frac{O(1)}{1+|n|}$ such that $H=H_0+V$ has eigenvalues $\{ E_j\}_{j=1}^N$.

We are interested in diagonal perturbations of a periodic Jacobi operator that introduce embedded eigenvalues in its essential spectrum. Embedding multiple points in the essential spectrum has been known to be difficult, given that eigenvalues are destroyed easily by small perturbations. However, given a finite or countably infinite set of points within an absolutely continuous band of the original periodic operator (subject only to a very weak non-resonance condition) we are able to construct a diagonal perturbation that preserves the essential spectrum and places eigenvalues in all of those points.

Here we present a computationally simple way of choosing a special basis for the space of intertwiners, allowing us to construct a quotient that reflects the structure of the original operator. This quotient construction generalizes previous definitions for discrete graphs, which either dealt with restricted group actions or only with the trivial representation. We also extend the method to quantum graphs, which simplifies previous constructions within this context, answers an open question regarding self-adjointness and offers alternative viewpoints in terms of a scattering approach. Applications to isospectrality are discussed, together with numerous examples and comparisons with previous results.

Abstract:
Let us concern the quasi-periodic Schrödinger operator in the continuous case, \begin{equation*}
(Hy)(x)=-y^{\prime\prime}(x)+V(x,ωx)y(x), \end{equation*} where $V:(\R/\Z)^2\to \R$ is piecewisely $γ$-Hölder continuous with respect to the second variable. Let $L(E)$ be the Lyapunov exponent of $Hy=Ey$. Define $β(ω)$ as \begin{equation*}
β(ω)= \limsup_{k\to \infty}\frac{-\ln ||kω||}{k}. \end{equ…
