Higher-matter is defined by higher-representation of a symmetry algebra, such as the $p$-form symmetries, higher-group symmetries or higher-categorical symmetries. In this paper, we focus on the cases of higher-group symmetries, which are formulated in terms of the strictification of weak higher-groups. We systematically investigate higher-matter charged under 2-group symmetries, defined by automorphism 2-representations. Furthermore, we construct a Lagrangian formulation of such higher-matter fields coupled to 2-group gauge fields in the path space of the spacetime manifold. We interpret such model as the Landau-Ginzburg theory for 2-group symmetries, and discuss the spontaneous symmetry breaking (SSB) of 2-group symmetries under this framework. Examples of discrete and continuous 2-groups are discussed. Interestingly, we find that a non-split 2-group symmetry can admit an SSB to a split 2-group symmetry, where the Postnikov class is trivialized. We also briefly discuss the strictification of weak 3-groups, weak 3-group gauge fields and 3-representations in special cases.

In a unified fashion, we establish Lieb-Schultz-Mattis (LSM) theorems and their generalizations in systems with long-range interactions. We show that, for a quantum spin chain, if the interactions decay fast enough as their ranges increase and the Hamiltonian has an anomalous symmetry, the Hamiltonian cannot have a unique gapped symmetric ground state. If the Hamiltonian contains only 2-spin interactions, these theorems hold when the interactions decay faster than $1/r^2$, with $r$ the distance between the two interacting spins. Moreover, any pure state with an anomalous symmetry, which may not be a ground state of any natural Hamiltonian, must be long-range entangled. The symmetries we consider include on-site internal symmetries combined with lattice translation symmetries, and they can also extend to purely internal but non-on-site symmetries. Moreover, these internal symmetries can be discrete or continuous. We explore the applications of the theorems through various examples.

We use Eyre's theorem to develop an unconditionally stable implicit solver for spatially non-uniform and time-varying model parameters. The accuracy, unconditional stability, and efficiency of the solver is validated against benchmarking examples. In its current form, the solver requires a uniform mesh and may only be applied to problems with periodic, Neumann, or mixed periodic and Neumann boundary conditions.

The exact elementary excitations in a typical U(1) symmetry broken quantum integrable system, that is the twisted J1-J2 spin chain with nearest-neighbor, next nearest neighbor and chiral three spin interactions, are studied. The main technique is that we quantify the energy spectrum of the system by the zero roots of transfer matrix instead of the traditional Bethe roots. From the numerical calculation and singularity analysis, we obtain the patterns of zero roots. Based on them, we analytically obtain the ground state energy and the elementary excitations in the thermodynamic limit. We find that the system also exhibits the nearly degenerate states in the regime of $η\in \mathbb{R}$, where the nearest-neighbor couplings among the z-direction are ferromagnetic. More careful study shows that the competing of interactions can induce the gapless low-lying excitations and quantum phase transition in the antiferromagnetic regime with $η\in \mathbb{R}+iπ$.

The obtained explicit solution represents a steady purely azimuthal stratified flow with a flat surface and an impermeable flat bed that is suitable for describing the Equatorial Current. Resorting to a functional analysis, we show that the thermocline exhibits some monotonicity properties.

Using the so-called Dirichlet-Neumann operators, the water wave system is expressed in the Hamiltonian form, and thus the motions of the internal waves and surface waves are determined by the Hamiltonian formulation. Choosing an appropriate scaling of the variables and employing the Hamiltonian perturbation theory from Hamiltonian formulation of the dynamics, we derive a KdV-type equation with variable coefficients depending on the bottom topography to describe the internal waves.

A novel Bethe ansatz scheme is proposed to investigate the exact physical properties of an integrable anisotropic quantum spin chain with competing interactions among the nearest, next nearest neighbor and chiral three spin couplings, where the boundary condition is the twisted one. The eigenvalue of the transfer matrix is characterized by its zero roots instead of the traditional Bethe roots. Based on the exact solution, the conserved momentum and charge operators of this U(1)-symmetry broken system are obtained. The ground state energy and density of rapidities are calculated. It is found that there exist three kinds of elementary excitations and the corresponding dispersion relations are obtained, which gives a different picture from that with periodic boundary condition.

We investigate the para-ferro transition of the repulsive SU($N$) Hubbard model on one- and two-dimensional Tasaki lattices. Under certain restrictions for constructing localized many-particle ground states of flat-band ferromagnetism, the quantum strongly correlated electrons model is mapped to a classical statistical geometric site-percolation problem, where the nontrivial weights of different configurations must be considered. We prove rigorously the para-ferro transition for the SU($N$) Hubbard model on one-dimensional Tasaki lattice by transfer-matrix method, and numerically verify it for the model with symmetries up to SU($10$). In two dimensions, we numerically investigate the phase transition of SU($3$), SU($4$) and SU($10$) Hubbard models by Metropolis Monte Carlo simulation. And we find the critical density exceeds that of standard percolation, and it increases with spin degrees of freedom, implying that the effective repulsive interaction becomes stronger for larger $N$. We further rigorously prove the flat-band ferromagnetism of the SU$(N)$ Hubbard model, when the number of particles $N_e$ equals to the degeneracy $N_d$ of the lowest band in the single-particle energy spectrum.

The holographic principle states that the information about a volume of a system is encoded on the boundary surface of the volume. Holography appears in many branches of physics, such as optics, electromagnetism, many-body physics, quantum gravity, and string theory. Here we show that holography is also an underlying principle in thermodynamics, a most important foundation of physics. The thermodynamics of a system is fully determined by its partition function. We prove that the partition function of a physical system is an analytic function of all the physical parameters, and therefore its values in any area on the complex plane of a physical parameter are uniquely determined by its values along the boundary. The thermodynamic holography has applications in studying thermodynamics of nano-scale systems (such as molecule engines, nano-generators and macromolecules) and provides a new approach to many-body physics.
