Motivated by the null results of current dark matter searches and the small-scale problems, we study a dark sector charged by a spontaneous broken gauge $U(1)'$. To explore the parameter space of this model, in addition to the consideration of the small-scale data, we also consider the theoretical bounds on the dark Higgs mass, with the upper bound coming from the tree-level perturbative unitarity and the lower bound from the one-loop Linde-Weinberg bound. We deeply examine the dependence of the Linde-Weinberg bound on gauge choice and energy scale. Combining the theoretical and observational constraints, we obtain the following ranges for the parameter space: the dark matter mass is 10-500 GeV, the mediator (dark photon) mass is 0.5-5 MeV, the dark Higgs mass is 0.05-50 MeV, the dark fine-structure constant is 0.001-0.5. We conclude that the dark Higgs in this model cannot be ignored in the phenomenological study of the dark sector.

In the framework of braneworld holography, we construct a quantum charged black hole that is localized on a three-dimensional anti-de Sitter brane and incorporates quantum backreaction effects from the boundary field theory. The field on the brane consists of higher curvature gravitation coupled with a nonlinear electromagnetic field, and it does not exhibit conformal symmetry. We also investigate the thermodynamics of these quantum charged black holes from three distinct perspectives: a pure bulk description, where the bulk gravitation interacts with a brane; a brane description, where local dynamical gravitation is subject to quantum backreaction from the dual quantum conformal field; a boundary description, where the degrees of freedom for defect quantum conformal matters are considered. In so doing we obtain doubly holographic formulations of both the first law of thermodynamics and the Smarr (energy) relations.

A special conformal transformation which carries a vacuum gravitational wave into another vacuum one is built by using Möbius-redefined time. It can either transform a globally defined vacuum wave into a vacuum sandwich wave, or carry the gravitational wave into itself. The first type, illustrated by linearly and circularly polarized vacuum plane gravitational waves, permutes the symmetries and the geodesics. Our pp waves with conformal O(2,1) symmetry of the second type, which seem to ahve escaped attention so far, are anisotropic generalizations of the familiar inverse-square profile. An example inspired by molecular physics, for which the particle can escape, or perform periodic motion, or fall into the singularity is studied in detail.

We introduce and study a candidate gravity dual to the double scaled SYK model in the form of an exactly soluble 2D de Sitter gravity model consisting of two spacelike Liouville CFTs with complex central charge adding up to $c_+ + c_- = 26$. In [1] it was shown that the two-point function of physical operators in a doubled SYK model matches in the semi-classical limit with the Green's function of a massive scalar field in 3D de Sitter space. As further evidence of the duality, we adapt a result from Zamolodchikov to compute the boundary two-point function of the 2D Liouville-de Sitter gravity model on a disk and find that it reproduces the exact DSSYK two-point function to all orders in $λ=p^2/N$. We describe how the 2D Liouville-de Sitter gravity model arises from quantizing 3D de Sitter gravity.

We further develop the description of three-dimensional quantum gravity with negative cosmological constant in terms of Virasoro TQFT formulated in our previous paper arXiv:2304.13650. We compare the partition functions computed in the Virasoro TQFT formalism to the semiclassical evaluation of Euclidean gravity partition functions. This matching is highly non-trivial, but can be checked directly in some examples. We then showcase the formalism in action, by computing the gravity partition functions of many relevant topologies. For holographic applications, we focus on the partition functions of Euclidean multi-boundary wormholes with three-punctured spheres as boundaries. This precisely quantifies the higher moments of the structure constants in the proposed ensemble boundary dual and subjects the proposal to thorough checks. Finally, we investigate in detail the example of the figure eight knot complement as a hyperbolic 3-manifold. We show that the Virasoro TQFT partition function is identical to the partition function computed in Teichmüller theory, thus giving strong evidence for the equivalence of these TQFTs. We also show how to produce a large class of manifolds via Dehn surgery on the figure eight knot.

We explore the generalized volume complexity of odd-dimensional asymptotically Anti-de Sitter (AdS) Myers-Perry black holes with equal angular momenta following the complexity equals anything proposal. Initially, we determine the codimension-one generalized volume complexity by finding the extreme of the generally covariant volume functional. We show that its late-time growth rate aligns with the critical momenta linked to the extremal hypersurface. Consequently, we select the Gauss-Bonnet invariant as the scalar function in the definition of generalized volume complexity to examine the complexity's temporal variation. Interestingly, we note the possibility of numerous pseudo phase behaviors intricately tied to the configurations of the effective potentials related to the codimension-one hypersurface. Nevertheless, the complexity shows a linear growth in the ultimate phase in every scenario. This suggests the consistency of the complexity equals anything proposal with respect to the AdS rotating black holes.

We prove the quantum spectrum conjecture and the Gamma conjectures for Fermat homogeneous polynomials and the mirror simple singularities.
The Gamma structures in Fan-Jarvis-Ruan-Witten theory also provide a bridge from the category of matrix factorizations of the Landau-Ginzburg pair (the algebraic aspect) to its analytic aspect. We will explain the relationship among the Gamma structures, Orlov's semiorthogonal decompositions, and the Stokes phenomenon.

We examine the motion of the massless scalar field and nearly bound null geodesics in the near-ring region of a black hole, which may possess either acceleration or a gravitomagnetic mass. Around such black holes, the photon ring deviates from the equatorial plane. In the large angular momentum limit, we demonstrate that the massless scalar field exhibits an emergent conformal symmetry in this near-ring region. Additionally, in the nearly bound limit, we observe the emergence of a conformal symmetry for the null geodesics that constitute the photon ring in the black hole image. These findings suggest that the hidden conformal symmetry, associated with the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{s l}(2, \mathbb{R})$, persists even for black holes lacking north-south reflection symmetry, thereby broadening the foundation of photon ring holography. Finally, we show that the conformal symmetry also emerges for nearly bound timelike geodesics and scalar fields in proximity to the particle ring, and with specific mass around a Schwarzschild black hole.

It has long been conjectured that the large $N$ deconfinement phase transition of $\mathcal{N}=4$ ${\rm SU}(N)$ super-Yang-Mills corresponds via AdS/CFT to the Hawking-Page transition in which black holes dominate the thermal ensemble, and quantitative evidence of this has come through the recent matching of the superconformal index of ${1\over 16}$-BPS states to the supersymmetric black hole entropy. We introduce the half-BPS Gukov-Witten surface defect as a probe of the superconformal index, which also serves as an order parameter for the deconfinement transition. This can be studied directly in field theory as a modification of the usual unitary matrix model or in the dual description as a D3-brane probe in the background of a (complex) supersymmetric black hole. Using a saddle point approximation, we determine our defect index in the large $N$ limit as a simple function of the chemical potentials and show independently that it is reproduced by the renormalized action of the brane in the black hole background. Along the way, we also comment on the Cardy limit and the thermodynamics of the D3-brane in the generalized ensemble. The defect index sharply distinguishes between the confining and the deconfining phases of the gauge theory and thus is a supersymmetric non-perturbative order parameter for these large $N$ phase transitions which deserves further investigation. Finally, our work provides an example where the properties of a black hole coupled to an external system can be analyzed precisely.

We provide mass/energy formulas for the extended thermodynamics, mixed thermodynamics, and holographic conformal field theory (CFT) thermodynamics for the charged and rotating Kerr-Newman Anti-de Sitter black holes. Then for the CFT thermal states dual to the black hole, we find the first-order phase transitions and criticality phenomena in the canonical ensemble with fixed angular momentum, volume, and central charge. We observe that the CFT states cannot be analogous to the Van der Waals fluids, despite the critical exponents falling into the universality class predicted by the mean field theory. Additionally, we examine the (de)confinement phase transitions within the grand canonical ensemble with fixed angular velocity, volume, and central charge of the CFT. Our findings suggest that the near zero temperature (de)confinement phase transitions can occur with the angular velocity of the CFT that solely depends on the CFT volume.

We propose a precise reformulation of 3d quantum gravity with negative cosmological constant in terms of a topological quantum field theory based on the quantization of the Teichmüller space of Riemann surfaces that we refer to as ``Virasoro TQFT.'' This TQFT is similar, but importantly not equivalent, to $\text{SL}(2,\mathbb{R})$ Chern-Simons theory. This sharpens the folklore that 3d gravity is related to $\text{SL}(2,\mathbb{R})$ Chern-Simons theory into a precise correspondence, and resolves some well-known issues with this lore at the quantum level. Our proposal is computationally very useful and provides a powerful tool for the further study of 3d gravity. In particular, we explain how together with standard TQFT surgery techniques this leads to a fully algorithmic procedure for the computation of the gravity partition function on a fixed topology exactly in the central charge. Mathematically, the relation leads to many nontrivial conjectures for hyperbolic 3-manifolds, Virasoro conformal blocks and crossing kernels.

We develop mass/energy formulas in terms of thermodynamic state functions for the extended thermodynamics, mixed thermodynamics, and boundary conformal field theory thermodynamics. We employ the residue method to study the topological properties of the phase transitions. Our analysis reveals that the bulk and boundary thermodynamics are topologically equivalent for both criticalities and first-order phase transitions in the canonical ensembles, as well as for the Hawking-Page(-like) phase transitions in the grand canonical ensembles. Additionally, those three kinds of phase transitions are shown to be distinguished by their unique topological charges. Our results exemplify the gravity-gauge duality in terms of topology.

$T\bar{T}$ deformed conformal field theories can be reformulated as worldsheet theories of non-critical strings. We use this correspondence to compute and study the $T\bar{T}$ deformed partition sum of a symmetric product CFT. We find that it takes the form of a partition sum of a second quantized string theory with a worldsheet given by the product of the seed CFT and a gaussian sigma model with the two-torus as target space. We show that deformed symmetric product theory admits a natural UV completion that exhibits a strong weak coupling $\mathbb{Z}_2$ duality that interchanges the momentum and winding numbers and maps the $T\bar{T}$-coupling $λ$ to its inverse $1/λ$. The $\mathbb{Z}_2$ duality is part of a full O$(2,2,\mathbb{Z})$-duality group that includes a PSL$(2,\mathbb{Z})$ acting on the complexified $T\bar{T}$ coupling. The duality symmetry eliminates the appearance of complex energies at strong coupling for all seed CFTs with central charge $c\leq 6$.

It has been established that Strong Cosmic Censorship Conjecture (SCCC) is respected by an asymptotically flat black hole with charge, but violated by a charged asymptotically de Sitter black hole. We studied the instability of the Cauchy horizon for an accelerating black hole in Einstein theory conformally coupled with a scalar field. The black hole is uncharged while having inner, outer, and acceleration horizons. In the limit of vanishing acceleration, denoted by $A \to 0$, it becomes asymptotically flat and extremal, with its acceleration horizon vanishing as well. By exploring the perturbation of the massless scalar field upon the accelerating black hole, whose decay rate is governed by the quasinormal mode spectra, we show that the SCCC is violated in the near-extremal regime and also in the $A\to 0^+$ limit. Our result is the first observation of a black hole violating the SCCC in an almost asymptotically Minkowskian flat regime, as well as the first example of a black hole violating the SCCC with neither charge nor rotation.

Upon obtaining an implicit form of the Wheeler-DeWitt patch, we evaluate the action and show that the growth rate of the CA complexity violates volume-scaling formulation in large black hole limit due to the non-trivial contribution from the not-too-small acceleration of the black hole. Moreover, in an ensemble with fixed entropy, pressure, and angular momentum, we also find that complexity of formation decreases with both the average and difference of the conical deficits on the poles when the black hole is close to the static limit but increases with the deficits when the black hole is close to the extremal regime.

In the generalized off-shell free energy landscape, black holes can be treated as thermodynamic topological defects. The local topological properties of the spacetime can be reflected by the winding numbers at the defects, while the global topological nature can be classified by the topological number which is the sum of all local winding numbers. We propose that the winding numbers can be calculated via the residues of isolated one-order pole points of characterized functions constructed from the off-shell free energy. Using the residue method, we show that the topologies of black holes can be divided into three classes with the topological numbers being -1, 0, and 1, respectively, being consistent with the results obtained in [Phys. Rev. Lett. 129, 191101 (2022)] by using the topological current method. Moreover, we point out that standard defect points, generation and annihilation points, and critical points can be distinguished by coefficients of the Laurent series of the off-shell characterized function at those singular points.

Quantum parameter estimation promises a high-precision measurement in theory, however, how to design the optimal scheme in a specific scenario, especially under a practical condition, is still a serious problem that needs to be solved case by case due to the existence of multiple mathematical bounds and optimization methods. Depending on the scenario considered, different bounds may be more or less suitable, both in terms of computational complexity and the tightness of the bound itself. At the same time, the metrological schemes provided by different optimization methods need to be tested against realization complexity, robustness, etc. Hence, a comprehensive toolkit containing various bounds and optimization methods is essential for the scheme design in quantum metrology. To fill this vacancy, here we present a Python-Julia-based open-source toolkit for quantum parameter estimation, which includes many well-used mathematical bounds and optimization methods. Utilizing this toolkit, all procedures in the scheme design, such as the optimizations of the probe state, control and measurement, can be readily and efficiently performed.

We construct conformally scalar NUTty dyon black holes in non-linear electrodynamics (NLE) which possess conformal and duality-rotation symmetries and are characterized by a free dimensionless parameter. The thermodynamic first law of the black hole is formulated. Then we explore the strong gravitational effects of the black hole, mainly focusing on the innermost stable circular orbits (ISCOs) of massive particles and shadows formed by the photons. One of our interesting results is that if the black hole is endowed with a positive real conformal scalar charge rendering it Reissner-Nordström-like, the radii of the ISCOs and the shadow both increase with the increasing NLE parameter signifying the increasing nonlinearity of the electromagnetic field.

After considering the quantum corrections of Einstein-Maxwell theory, the effective theory will contain some higher-curvature terms and nonminimally coupled electromagnetic fields. In this paper, we study the first law of black holes in the gravitational electromagnetic system with the Lagrangian $\math{L}(g_{ab}, R_{abcd}, F_{ab})$. Firstly, we calculate the Noether charge and the variational identity in this theory, and then generically derive the first law of thermodynamics for an asymptotically flat stationary axisymmetrical symmetric black hole without the requirement that the electromagnetic field is smooth on the bifurcation surface. Our results indicate that the first law of black hole thermodynamics might be valid for the Einstein-Maxwell theory with some quantum corrections in the effective region.

We investigate phases of 3d ${\cal N}=2$ Chern-Simons-matter theories, extending to three dimensions the celebrated correspondence between 2d gauged Wess-Zumino-Witten (GWZW) models and non-linear sigma models (NLSMs) with geometric targets. We find that although the correspondence in 3d and 2d are closely related by circle compactification, an important subtlety arises in this process, changing the phase structure of the 3d theory. Namely, the effective theory obtained from the circle compactification of a phase of a 3d ${\cal N}=2$ gauge theory is, in general, different from the phase of the 3d ${\cal N}=2$ theory on ${\mathbb R}^2\times S^{1}$, which means taking phases of a 3d gauge theory does not necessarily commute with compactification. We compute the Witten index of each effective theory to check this observation. Furthermore, when the matter fields have the same non-minimal charges, the 3d ${\cal N}=2$ Chern-Simons-matter theory with a proper Chern-Simons level will decompose into several identical 2d gauged linear sigma models (GLSMs) for the same target upon reduction to 2d. To illustrate this phenomenon, we investigate how vacua of the 3d gauge theory for a weighted projective space $W\mathbb{P}_{[l,\cdots,l]}$ move on the field space when we change the radius of $S^{1}$.

Weak cosmic censorship conjecture (WCCC) is a basic principle that guarantees the predictability of spacetime and should be valid in any classical theories. One critical scientific question is whether the WCCC can serve as a constraint to the gravitational theories. To explore this question, we perform the first-order Sorce-Wald's gedanken experiments to test the WCCC in the higher-order gravitational theories and find that there exists a destruction condition $S_\text{ext}'(r_h)<0$ for the extremal black holes. To show the power of this condition, we evaluate the constraints given by WCCC in the quadratic and cubic gravitational theories. Our investigation makes an essential step toward applying WCCC to constrain the modified gravitational theories, and opens a new avenue to judge which theory is reasonable.

Recently, it was argued in [Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf126}, 031102 (2021)] that the WCCC can serve as a constraint to high-order effective field theories. However, we find there exists a key error in their approximate black hole solution. After correcting it, their calculation cannot show the ability of WCCC to constrain the gravitational theories.

For an ordinary charged system, it has been shown that by using the "complexity equals action" (CA) conjecture, the late-time growth rate of the holographic complexity is given by a difference between the value of $Φ_H Q+Ω_H J$ on the inner and outer horizons. In this paper, we study the influence of the chiral anomaly on the complexity of the boundary quantum system. To be specific, we evaluate the CA holographic complexity of the charged supersymmetric black holes whose bulk action is modified by an additional Chern-Simons term of the electromagnetic fields. As a result, the late-time growth rate of the complexity will be corrected by some additional terms on the inner and outer horizons than the ordinary charged black holes. Our work implies that the late-time growth rate of the complexity can carry the information of the chiral anomaly for the boundary system.

In this paper, based on the new version of the gedanken experiments proposed by Sorce and Wald, we examine the weak cosmic censorship in the perturbation process of accreting matter fields for the charged dilaton-Lifshitz black holes. In the investigation, we assume that the black hole is perturbed by some extra matter source satisfied the null energy condition and ultimately settle down to a static charged dilaton-Lifshitz black hole in the asymptotic future. Then, after applying the Noether charge method, we derive the first-order and second-order perturbation inequalities of the perturbation matter fields. As a result, we find that the nearly extremal charged dilaton-Lifshitz black hole cannot be destroyed under the second-order approximation of perturbation. This result implies that the weak cosmic censorship conjecture might be a general feature of the Einstein gravity, and it is independent of the asymptotic behaviors of the black holes.

The Lukash metric is a homogeneous gravitational wave which at late times approximates the behaviour of a generic class of spatially homogenous cosmological models with monotonically decreasing energy density. The transcription from Brinkmann to Baldwin-Jeffery-Rosen (BJR) to Bianchi coordinates is presented and the relation to a Sturm-Liouville equation is explained. The 6-parameter isometry group is derived. In the Bianchi VII range of parameters we have two BJR transciptions. However using either of them induces a mere relabeling of the geodesics and isometries. Following pioneering work of Siklos, we provide a self-contained account of the geometry and global structure of the spacetime. The latter contains a Killing horizon to the future of which the spacetime resembles an anisotropic version of the Milne cosmology and to the past of which it resemble the Rindler wedge.

We then probe the relation between the escape probabilities and the energy extraction efficiencies of collisional Penrose processes for the particles with varying spin. For the extreme Kerr black hole, the efficiency increases with the escape probability; for the non-extreme Kerr black hole, the near-horizon-efficiency decreases with the escape probability whilst the efficiency may increase with the escape probability in the ergosphere. In the event horizon limit, we also find that the average escape probability of the spinning particle produced in the collisional Penrose process decreases with the rotation parameter of the Kerr black hole.

In this paper, we test the weak cosmic censorship conjecture (WCCC) in the nearly extremal static charged black holes of Lanczos-Lovelock-Maxwell gravity based on the new version of gedanken experiments proposed by Sorce and Wald. After introducing the null energy condition of the matter fields, we show that the (nearly) extremal black holes can be destroyed under the first-order approximation for the case with $S'(r_h)\leq 0$, where $S(r_h)$ is the entropy of the background black hole geometry in Lanczos-Lovelock gravity. It implies that the WCCC is violated in these situations. For the case with $S'(r_h)>0$, the nearly extremal black holes cannot be overcharged by the new version of the gedanken experiments for both first- and second-order approximations of perturbation. These results indicate that the WCCC is satisfied in the Lanczos-Lovelock gravity with the condition $S'(r_h)>0$. Our work also implies that the WCCC will play a natural role to constrain the Lanczos-Lovelock gravities. Finally, we also show that the destroy condition $S'(r_h)<0$ implies that the nearly extremal black hole is thermodynamically unstable under the first-order approximation.

In this paper, we investigate the second law of the black holes in Lovelock gravity sourced by a conformally coupled scalar field under the first-order approximation when the perturbation matter fields satisfy the null energy condition. First of all, we show that the Wald entropy of this theory does not obey the linearized second law for the scalar-hairy Lovelock gravity which contains the higher curvature terms even if we replace the gravitational part of Wald entropy with Jacobson-Myers (JM) entropy. This implies that we cannot naively add the scalar field term of the Wald entropy to the JM entropy of the purely Lovelock gravity to get a valid linearized second law. By rescaling the metric, the action of the scalar field can be written as a purely Lovelock action with another metric. Using this property, by analogy with the JM entropy of the purely Lovelock gravity, we introduce a new formula of the entropy in the scalar-hairy Lovelock gravity. Then, we show that this new JM entropy increases along the event horizon for Vaidya-like black hole solutions and therefore it obeys a linearized second law. Moreover, we show that different from the entropy in $F($Riemann$)$ gravity, the difference between the JM entropy and Wald entropy also contains some additional corrections from the scalar field.

Along the way, we propose new spectral decompositions of the Laplacian operator other than the plane-wave basis on these two types of background, with both analytical and numerical evidence. Then the one-loop Witten diagram is computed in the $p$-adic BTZ black hole background, yielding constraints on the heavy-heavy-light averaged three-point coefficient of its boundary $p$-adic CFT. Finally, for general $p$-adic CFTs (not necessarily holographic), we analyze the representation theory of their global conformal group $PGL\left(2,\mathbb{Q}_p\right)$, and discuss the suitability of different representations as Hilbert spaces of $p$-adic CFT.

In this paper, we use the "complexity equals action" (CA) conjecture to evaluate the holographic complexity in some multiple-horzion black holes for F(Riemann) gravity coupled to a first-order source-free electrodynamics. Motivated by the vanishing result of the purely magnetic black hole founded by Goto $et.\, al$, we investigate the complexity in a static charged black hole with source-free electrodynamics and find that this vanishing feature of the late-time rate is universal for a purely static magnetic black hole. However, this result shows some unexpected features of the late-time growth rate. We show how the inclusion of a boundary term for the first-order electromagnetic field to the total action can make the holographic complexity be well-defined and obtain a general expression of the late-time complexity growth rate with these boundary terms. We apply our late-time result to some explicit cases and show how to choose the proportional constant of these additional boundary terms to make the complexity be well-defined in the zero-charge limit. For the static magnetic black hole in Einstein gravity coupled to a first-order electrodynamics, we find that there is a general relationship between the proper proportional constant and the Lagrangian function $h(\math{F})$ of the electromagnetic field: if $h(\math{F})$ is a convergent function, the choice of the proportional constant is independent on explicit expressions of $h(\math{F})$ and it should be chosen as $4/3$; if $h(\math{F})$ is a divergent function, the proportional constant is dependent on the asymptotic index of the Lagrangian function.

Abstract:
The radius of the circular orbit for the time-like or light-like test particle in a background of general spherically symmetric spacetime is viewed as a characterized quantity for the thermodynamic phase transition of the corresponding black hole. We generally show that the phase transition information of a black hole can be reflected by its surrounding particle's circular orbit.

We introduce group field theory networks as a generalization of spin networks and of (symmetric) random tensor networks and provide a statistical computation of the Rényi entropy for a bipartite network state using the partition function of a simple interacting group field theory. The expectation value of the entanglement entropy is calculated by an expansion into stranded Feynman graphs and is shown to be captured by a Ryu- Takayanagi formula. For a simple interacting group field theory, we can prove the linear corrections, given by a polynomial perturbation of the Gaussian measure, to be negligible for a broad class of networks.

Interior Volume of Banados-Teitelboim-Zanelli Black Hole
Authors:

Abstract:
We calculate the interior volume for the three-dimensional Banados-Teitelboim-Zanelli black hole in this paper. To that end, we obtain the volume functional and numerically find a path to extremize it, before choosing a spacelike hypersurface to get an asymptotic analytical expression for the interior volume based on the characteristics of the path.
