Instanton Calculus in R-R 3-form Background and Deformed N=2 Super Yang-Mills Theory
Abstract: We study the ADHM construction of instantons in N=2 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory deformed in constant Ramond-Ramond (R-R) 3-form field strength background in type IIB superstrings. We compare the deformed instanton effective action with the effective action of fractional D3/D(-1) branes at the orbifold singularity of C^2/Z_2 in the same R-R background. We find discrepancy between them at the… ▽ More

A Numerical Study of Gluon Scattering Amplitudes in N=4 Super Yang-Mills Theory at Strong Coupling
Abstract: We study gluon scattering amplitudes in N=4 super Yang-Mills theory at strong coupling via the AdS/CFT correspondence. We solve numerically the discretized Euler-Lagrange equations on the square worldsheet for the minimal surface with light-like boundaries in AdS spacetime. We evaluate the area of the surface for the 4, 6 and 8-point amplitudes using worldsheet and radial cut-off regularizations… ▽ More

Further discussion of Tomboulis' approach to the confinement problem
Abstract: We discuss in some detail certain gaps and open problems in the recent paper by E. T. Tomboulis, which claims to give a rigorous proof of quark confinement in 4D lattice Yang-Mills theory for all values of the bare coupling. We also discuss what would be needed to fill the gaps in his proof.

On the recent paper on quark confinement by Tomboulis
Abstract: We point out missing links in the recent paper by Tomboulis in which he claims a rigorous proof of quark confinement in 4D lattice gauge theory. We also discuss if it is possible to correct his proof.

Gluon scattering in ${\cal N}=4$ Super Yang-Mills at finite temperature
Abstract: We extend the AdS/CFT prescription of Alday and Maldacena to finite temperature $T$, defining the amplitude for gluon scattering in ${\cal N}=4$ Super Yang-Mills at strong coupling from string theory. It is defined by a lightlike ''Wilson loop'' living at the horizon of the T-dual to the black hole in AdS space. Unlike the zero temperature case, this is different from the Wilson loop contour def… ▽ More

Instantons in Deformed Super Yang-Mills Theories
Abstract: We study the instanton effective action in deformed four-dimensional N=2 and N=4 super Yang-Mills (SYM) theories. These deformed gauge theories are defined on the D-brane world-volume in the presence of constant, self-dual Ramond-Ramond (R-R) 3-form field strength background $\mathcal{F}$ which is scaled as $(2 πα')^{1/2} \mathcal{F} = fixed$ in the zero-slope limit $α' \to 0$. The instanton eff… ▽ More

Comments on gluon 6-point scattering amplitudes in N=4 SYM at strong coupling
Abstract: We use the AdS/CFT prescription of Alday and Maldacena \cite{am} to analyze gluon 6-point scattering amplitudes at strong coupling in ${\cal N}=4$ SYM. By cutting and gluing we obtain AdS 6-point amplitudes that contain extra boundary conditions and come close to matching the field theory results. We interpret them as parts of the field theory amplitudes, containing only certain diagrams. We als… ▽ More

Deformation of Super Yang-Mills Theories in R-R 3-form Background
Abstract: We study deformation of N=2 and N=4 super Yang-Mills theories, which are obtained as the low-energy effective theories on the (fractional) D3-branes in the presence of constant Ramond-Ramond 3-form background. We calculate the Lagrangian at the second order in the deformation parameter from open string disk amplitudes. In N=4 case we find that all supersymmetries are broken for generic deformati… ▽ More

Deformation of N=4 Super Yang-Mills Theory in Graviphoton Background
Abstract: We study deformation of N=4 super Yang-Mills theory from type IIB superstrings with D3-branes in the constant R-R background. We compute disk amplitudes with one graviphoton vertex operator and investigate the zero-slope limit of the amplitudes. We obtain the effective action deformed by the graviphoton background, which contains the one defined in non(anti)commutative N=1 superspace as special… ▽ More

Non(anti)commutative N=2 Supersymmetric Gauge Theory from Superstrings in the Graviphoton Background
Abstract: We study open string amplitudes with the D3-branes in type IIB superstring theory compactified on C^2/Z_2. We introduce constant graviphoton background along the branes and calculate disk amplitudes using the NSR formalism. We take the zero slope limit and investigate the effective Lagrangian on the D3-branes deformed by the graviphoton background. We find that the deformed Lagrangian agrees wit… ▽ More
