Searches for dark matter (DM) have not provided any solid evidence for the existence of weakly interacting massive particles in the GeV-TeV mass range. Coincidentally, the scale of new physics is being pushed by collider searches well beyond the TeV domain. This situation strongly motivates the exploration of DM masses much larger than a TeV. Secluded scenarios contain a natural way around the unitarity bound on the DM mass, via the early matter domination induced by the mediator of its interactions with the Standard Model. High-energy neutrinos constitute one of the very few direct accesses to energy scales above a few TeV. An indirect search for secluded DM signals has been performed with the ANTARES neutrino telescope using data from 2007 to 2015. Upper limits on the DM annihilation cross section for DM masses up to 6 PeV are presented and discussed.

This article presents the potential of a combined analysis of the JUNO and KM3NeT/ORCA experiments to determine the neutrino mass ordering. This combination is particularly interesting as it significantly boosts the potential of either detector, beyond simply adding their neutrino mass ordering sensitivities, by removing a degeneracy in the determination of $Δm_{31}^2$ between the two experiments when assuming the wrong ordering. The study is based on the latest projected performances for JUNO, and on simulation tools using a full Monte Carlo approach to the KM3NeT/ORCA response with a careful assessment of its energy systematics. From this analysis, a $5σ$ determination of the neutrino mass ordering is expected after 6 years of joint data taking for any value of the oscillation parameters. This sensitivity would be achieved after only 2 years of joint data taking assuming the current global best-fit values for those parameters for normal ordering.

KM3NeT-ORCA is a water-Cherenkov neutrino detector designed for studying the oscillations of atmospheric neutrinos, with the primary objective of measuring the neutrino mass ordering. Atmospheric neutrinos crossing the Earth undergo matter effects, modifying the pattern of their flavour oscillations. The study of the angular and energy distribution of neutrino events in ORCA can therefore provide tomographic information on the Earth's interior with an independent technique, complementary to the standard geophysics methods. Preliminary estimations based on a full Monte Carlo simulation of the detector response show that after ten years of operation the electron density can be measured with a precision of 3-5% in the mantle and 7-10% in the outer core - depending on the mass ordering.

The event selection criteria have been developed and tuned to maximise the sensitivity of the experiment to such a neutrino signal. No significant excess of neutrinos over the expected background has been observed. Upper limits at $90\%$ C.L. on the WIMP annihilation rate in the Earth and the spin independent scattering cross-section of WIMPs to nucleons $σ^{SI}_p$ were calculated for WIMP pair annihilations into either $τ^{+}τ^{-}$, $W^+W^-$, $b\overline{b}$ or the non-SUSY $ν_μ\barν_μ$ as a function of the WIMP mass (between $25\,\mathrm{GeV/c^2}$ and $1000\,\mathrm{GeV/c^2}$) and as a function of the thermally averaged annihilation cross section times velocity $\langleσ_{A} v\rangle_{Earth}$ of the WIMPs in the centre of the Earth. For masses of the WIMP close to the mass of iron nuclei ($50\,\mathrm{GeV/c^2}$), the obtained limits on $σ^{SI}_p$ are more stringent than those obtained by other indirect searches.

Studying atmospheric neutrino oscillations in the few-GeV range with a multimegaton detector promises to determine the neutrino mass hierarchy. This is the main science goal pursued by the future KM3NeT/ORCA water Cherenkov detector in the Mediterranean Sea. In this paper, the processes that limit the obtainable resolution in both energy and direction in charged-current neutrino events in the ORCA detector are investigated. These processes include the composition of the hadronic fragmentation products, the subsequent particle propagation and the photon-sampling fraction of the detector. GEANT simulations of neutrino interactions in seawater produced by GENIE are used to study the effects in the 1 - 20 GeV range. It is found that fluctuations in the hadronic cascade in conjunction with the variation of the inelasticity y are most detrimental to the resolutions. The effect of limited photon sampling in the detector is of significantly less importance. These results will therefore also be applicable to similar detectors/media, such as those in ice.

Large mass ice/water Cherenkov experiments, optimized to detect low energy (1-20 GeV) atmospheric neutrinos, have the potential to discriminate between normal and inverted neutrino mass hierarchies. The sensitivity depends on several model and detector parameters, such as the neutrino flux profile and normalization, the Earth density profile, the oscillation parameter uncertainties, and the detector effective mass and resolution. A proper evaluation of the mass hierarchy discrimination power requires a robust statistical approach. In this work, the Toy Monte Carlo, based on an extended unbinned likelihood ratio test statistic, was used. The effect of each model and detector parameter, as well as the required detector exposure, was then studied. While uncertainties on the Earth density and atmospheric neutrino flux profiles were found to have a minor impact on the mass hierarchy discrimination, the flux normalization, as well as some of the oscillation parameter (Δm^2_{31}, θ_{13}, θ_{23}, and δ_{CP}) uncertainties and correlations resulted critical. Finally, the minimum required detector exposure, the optimization of the low energy threshold, and the detector resolutions were also investigated.

The detection of Earth-skimming tau neutrinos has turned into a very promising strategy for the observation of UHE cosmic neutrinos. The sensitivity of this channel crucially depends on the parameters of the propagation of the tau neutrino (and the tau lepton) through the terrestrial crust, which governs the flux of emerging tau leptons that can be detected. This propagation problem is usually treated in a simplified framework where several effects are neglected, e.g. the possibility of multiple regenerations of the tau neutrino, the weak interactions of the tau lepton, as well as the stochastic nature of its energy losses. We discuss here the validity of such approximations by studying the propagation in standard rock of tau leptons and neutrinos with both mono-energetic and power-law spectra. We also investigate the impact of such simplifications in non-standard scenarios for the neutrino-nucleon interactions as well as for the tau energy losses.

We discuss the effect of thermal motion on the shape of the absorption dips for different UHE neutrino fluxes as well as in the context of relic neutrino clustering. It has been claimed that in such models, high energy neutrinos incident on the surface of a bare strange star would lead to catastrophic black hole growth. We point out that for the flat large extra dimensional case, the parts of parameter space which give rise to such growth are ruled out by other methods. We then go on to show in detail how black holes evolve in the the Randall-Sundrum two brane scenario where the extra dimensions are curved. We find that catastrophic black hole growth does not occur in this situation either. We also present some general expressions for the growth of five dimensional black holes in dense media.

We present a mechanism of leptogenesis based on the out-of-equilibrium decay of a scalar particle into heavy virtual Majorana neutrinos. This scheme presents many conceptual advantages over the conventional scenario of Fukugita and Yanagida. In particular, the standard techniques of quantum field theory can be used to compute the lepton asymmetry, without resorting to the phenomenological approximations usually made to describe unstable particles. This simplification allows us to address in a well-defined framework some issues raised in the recent literature. We also show, in a toy model, that a successful leptogenesis scenario is possible and requires a rather light scalar particle, $10^6 GeV < m < 10^{13} GeV$. A natural embedding of this scheme in a gauged unified theory encompassing the Majorana fermions seems however difficult.
