Exclusive production of a $χ_{c1}$ axial vector quarkonia in photon-proton scattering at high energies requires a $C$-odd $t$-channel exchange. In the limit of vanishing momentum transfer this occurs either via the exchange of a photon, the Primakoff process, where the spin of the proton does not change. For axial-vector meson production, as a consequence of the Landau-Yang theorem, the Primakoff cross section is finite as $t \to 0$. Alternatively, a $C$-odd spin dependent Odderon can be exchanged, which involves a spin flip of the proton. The resulting cross section is related to the square of the gluon Sivers function or its $\boldsymbol{k}_\perp^2$-moment. Using two models for the gluon Sivers function from the literature we compute the ratio of Sivers to Primakoff cross sections and the angular coefficient $λ_θ$ governing the angular distribution of the $χ_{c1} \to J/ψ+ γ$ decay as functions of $x$. We point out that these observables constrain the magnitude of the gluon Sivers function at small $x$ which could be accessed in electron-proton scattering and ultraperipheral proton-proton and nucleus-proton collisions.

The most complete high-energy evolution of Wilson line operators is described by the set of equations called Balitsky-JIMWLK evolution equations. It is known from the studies of the linear - the BFKL - evolution equation that the leading corrections come from the kinematically enhanced double collinear logarithms. A method for resumming such logarithmic corrections to all orders for the Balitsky-Kovchegov equation is known under the name of kinematical constraint. In this work, we discuss the progress in implementing these corrections into the Langevin formulation of the JIMWLK equation. In particular, we introduce a set of correlation functions which are nonlocal in the rapidity variable. They appear in the construction of the kinematical constraint, however, their behavior with rapidity has not been investigated numerically so far. We derive their large-$N$ evolution equations, solve them numerically, and comment on their implications for the implementation of the full kinematical constraint.

Exclusive $C=+1$ scalar, axial-vector, and tensor quarkonium production in high-energy electron-proton scattering requires a $C$-odd $t$-channel exchange of a photon or a three gluon ladder. We derive the expressions for the corresponding amplitudes. The relative phase of the photon vs. three gluon exchange amplitudes is determined by the sign of the light-front matrix element of the eikonal color current operator $d^{abc}J^{+a}J^{+b}J^{+c}$ at moderate $x$, and is not affected by small-$x$ QCD evolution. Model calculations predict constructive interference, which is particularly strong for momentum transfer $|t|\sim 1$~GeV$^2$ where the cross section for $χ_{cJ}$ production exceeds that for pure photon exchange by up to a factor of 4. We find that exclusive $χ_{cJ}$ electroproduction at the Electron-Ion Collider should occur with well measurable rates and measurements of these processes should allow to find an evidence of the perturbative Odderon exchange. We also compute the total electroproduction cross section as a function of energy and provide first estimates of the number of $χ_{cJ}$ events per month at the Electron-Ion Collider design luminosity.

We compute the back-to-back dijet cross-section in deep inelastic scattering (DIS) at small $x$ to next-to-leading order (NLO) in the Color Glass Condensate effective field theory. Our result can be factorized into a convolution of the Weizsäcker-Williams gluon transverse momentum dependent distribution function (WW gluon TMD) with a universal soft factor and an NLO coefficient function. The soft factor includes both double and single logarithms in the ratio of the relative transverse momentum $P_\perp$ of the dijet pair to the dijet momentum imbalance $q_\perp$; its renormalization group (RG) evolution is resummed into the Sudakov factor. Likewise, the WW TMD obeys a nonlinear RG equation in $x$ that is kinematically constrained to satisfy both lifetime and rapidity ordering of the projectile. Exact analytical expressions are obtained for the NLO coefficient function of transversely and longitudinally polarized photons. Our results allow for the first quantitative separation of the dynamics of Sudakov suppression from that of gluon saturation. They can be extended to other final states and provide a framework for precision tests of novel QCD many-body dynamics at the Electron-Ion Collider.

In JHEP 11 (2022) 169, we performed the first complete computation of the back-to-back inclusive di-jet cross-section in Deeply Inelastic Scattering (DIS) at small $x_{\rm Bj}$ to next-to-leading order (NLO) in the Color Glass Condensate effective field theory (CGC EFT). We demonstrate here that for di-jets with relative transverse momentum $P_\perp$ and transverse momentum imbalance $q_\perp$, to leading power in $q_\perp/P_\perp$, the cross-section for longitudinally polarized photons can be fully factorized into the product of a perturbative impact factor and the nonperturbative Weizsäcker-Williams (WW) transverse momentum dependent (TMD) gluon distribution to NLO accuracy. The impact factor can further be expressed as the product of a universal soft factor which resums Sudakov double and single logs in $P_\perp/q_\perp$ and a coefficient function given by a remarkably compact analytic expression. We show that in the CGC EFT the WW TMD satisfies a kinematically constrained JIMWLK renormalization group evolution in rapidity. This factorization formula is valid to all orders in $Q_s/q_\perp$ for $q_\perp, Q_s \ll P_\perp$, where $Q_s$ is the semi-hard saturation scale that grows with rapidity.

Quarkonium production mechanism in high multiplicity small collision systems has recently been pursued in the color-glass-condensate (CGC) effective theory combined with non-relativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization, allowing to study initial state interactions. Quarkonium polarization, potentially measured in future experiments, would help elucidate the quarkonium production mechanism at high multiplicities. In this paper, we provide predictions on $J/ψ$ polarization parameters in high multiplicity proton-proton ($pp$) and proton-nucleus ($pA$) collisions within the CGC+NRQCD framework. Theoretical predictions are given for $J/ψ$ rapidity $2.5< y_{J/ψ}<4$, charged-particle multiplicity pseudorapidity $|η_{ch} | <1$ and energies $\sqrt{S}=13\mathrm{~TeV}$ for $pp$, $\sqrt{S}=8.16\mathrm{~TeV}$ for $pA$ collisions. Considering two leptonic frame choices (Collins - Soper and helicity) we find a weak polarization of $J/ψ$ that additionally decreases with growing event activities. No significant system size dependence between $pp$ and $pA$ collisions is obtained - this could be a new constraint to initial state interactions in small collision systems.

They represent three different theoretical schemes which are usually considered in the $k_T$-factorization approach, known under the acronyms: KMR, CCFM and GBW gluon distributions. We find sensitivity of the calculated prompt photon transverse momentum distribution to the gluon transverse momentum distribution. The predictions obtained with the three approaches are compared to data, that allows to differentiate between them. We also discuss the significance of the two partonic channels, confronted with the expectations which are based on the applicability of the $k_T$-factorization scheme in the high energy approximation.

We provide initial conditions for small-$x$ Balitsky-Kovchegov evolution of the dipole scattering amplitude with impact parameter and $\hat r \cdot \hat b$ dependence, and with non-zero $C$-odd component due to three-gluon exchange. Lastly, we compute the (forward) Weizsaecker-Williams gluon distributions, including the distribution of linearly polarized gluons, up to fourth order in $A^+$. The correction due to the quartic correlator provides a transverse momentum scale, $q > 0.5$ GeV, for nearly maximal polarization.

Exclusive production of a $η_c$ pseudo-scalar meson in $γ^{(*)} + p \to η_c + p$ scattering at high energies involves a ${\cal C}$-odd exchange in the $t$-channel. We formulate the description of this process within the high-energy framework of eikonal dipole scattering. We obtain expressions for the light-cone wave function of the $η_c$ required in this framework as well as for the ${\cal C}$-odd amplitudes due to exchange of a single photon, of a photon plus two gluons, and of three gluons. We relate these amplitudes to correlators of the $+$ component of the quark current in the light-cone wave function of the proton. For high transverse momenta these correlators correspond to Generalized Parton Distributions (GPDs) given by diagrams where all exchanged gauge bosons attach to a single quark in the proton. Diagrams involving multi-quark matrix elements potentially sensitive to correlations, screen infrared singularities. Moreover, they are numerically important for configurations where the exchanged bosons nearly share the total momentum transfer.
Using two simple models for the three quark Fock state of the proton at $x\simeq0.1$, we find that single photon exchange dominates for $|t|<1.5$~GeV$^2$. Here, the quark GPD could be measured cleanly in $γ^{(*)} + p \to η_c + p$ via single photon exchange. For higher momentum transfer three gluon (`Odderon') exchange is dominant.

We perform threshold resummation of soft gluon corrections to the total cross sections and the invariant mass distributions for production of a top-antitop quark pair associated with a heavy electroweak boson $V = W^+$, $W^-$ or $Z$ in $pp$ collisions at the Large Hadron Collider. The resummation is carried out at next-to-next-to-leading-logarithmic (NNLL) accuracy using the direct QCD Mellin space technique in the three-particle invariant mass kinematics. It is found that for the $t\bar t Z$ process the soft gluon resummation introduces significant corrections to the next-to-leading order (NLO) results. For the central scale equal to the $t\bar t Z$ invariant mass the corrections reach nearly 30%. For this process, the dominant theoretical uncertainty of the cross section due to the scale choice is significantly reduced at the NLO+NNLL level with respect to the NLO results. The effects of resummation are found to be less pronounced in the $t\bar t W^{\pm}$ case. The obtained results are compared to recent measurements performed by CMS and ATLAS collaborations at the LHC.

Our CGC+NRQCD computation provides a better description of data for $p_T \leq 15$ GeV relative to extant next-to-leading (NLO) calculations within the collinear factorization framework. These results suggest that higher order computations in the CGC+NRQCD framework have the potential to greatly improve the accuracy of extracted values of the NRQCD universal long distance matrix elements.

The forward Drell--Yan process in $pp$ scattering at the LHC at $\sqrt{S}=14$ TeV is considered. We analyze the Drell--Yan structure functions assuming the dominance of a Compton-like emission of a virtual photon from a fast quark scattering off the small $x$ gluons. The color dipole framework is applied to perform quantitatively the twist decomposition of all the Drell--Yan structure functions. Two models of the color dipole scattering are applied: the Golec-Biernat--Wüsthoff model and the dipole cross section obtained from the Balitsky--Fadin--Kuraev--Lipatov evolution equation. The two models have essentially different higher twist content and the gluon transverse momentum distribution and lead to different significant effects beyond the collinear leading twist description. It is found that the gluon transverse momentum effects are significant in the Drell--Yan structure functions for all Drell--Yan pair masses $M$, and the higher twist effects become important for $M \lesssim 10$ GeV. It is found that the structure function $W_{TT}$ related to the $A_2$ angular coefficient and the Lam--Tung observable $A_0 -A_2$ are particularly sensitive to the gluon $k_T$ effects and to the higher twist effects. A procedure is suggested how to disentangle the higher twist effects from the gluon transverse momentum effects.

This Report summarizes the results of the activities of the LHC Higgs Cross Section Working Group in the period 2014-2016. The main goal of the working group was to present the state-of-the-art of Higgs physics at the LHC, integrating all new results that have appeared in the last few years. The first part compiles the most up-to-date predictions of Higgs boson production cross sections and decay branching ratios, parton distribution functions, and off-shell Higgs boson production and interference effects. The second part discusses the recent progress in Higgs effective field theory predictions, followed by the third part on pseudo-observables, simplified template cross section and fiducial cross section measurements, which give the baseline framework for Higgs boson property measurements. The fourth part deals with the beyond the Standard Model predictions of various benchmark scenarios of Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, extended scalar sector, Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model and exotic Higgs boson decays. This report follows three previous working-group reports: Handbook of LHC Higgs Cross Sections: 1. Inclusive Observables (CERN-2011-002), Handbook of LHC Higgs Cross Sections: 2. Differential Distributions (CERN-2012-002), and Handbook of LHC Higgs Cross Sections: 3. Higgs properties (CERN-2013-004). The current report serves as the baseline reference for Higgs physics in LHC Run 2 and beyond.

The Lam-Tung relation breaking coefficient $A_{\mathrm{LT}} = A_0 - A_2$ in the Drell-Yan dilepton angular distributions in the $Z^0$ boson mass region at the LHC is analyzed in the $k_T$-factorization approach. This observable was recently measured with high precision by ATLAS collaboration. Within the $k_T$-factorization approach we perform an approximate ${\cal O}(α_{\mathrm{em}}α_s^2)$ calculation of the off-shell parton hard matrix elements in which we include the leading tree level contributions of valence quarks and off-shell gluons: the $q_{\mathrm{val}} g^* \to qZ^0$ channel and the $g^*g^* \to q\bar q Z^0$ channel. The resulting $A_{\mathrm{LT}}$ exhibits high sensitivity to the gluon transverse momentum distribution (TMD). Several gluon TMDs are probed derived from the CCFM and BFKL evolution equations, and given by QCD-inspired phenomenological parameterizations. The ATLAS data favor a simple "Weizsäcker-Williams" (WW) hard gluon TMD with the asymptotic behavior of one-gluon exchange at large gluon transverse momenta and moderate $x$. It is verified that the proposed approach with the WW gluon TMD describes well also the $A_0$ and $A_2$ angular coefficients at the $Z^0$ peak, as well as the Drell-Yan dilepton mass distribution at lower masses. We conclude that inclusion of gluon transverse momentum effects improves description of the angular distributions of Drell-Yan dileptons and that the Drell-Yan scattering provides an excellent probe of the parton TMDs.

Multiple Partonic Interactions are often crucial for interpreting results obtained at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The quest for a sound understanding of the dynamics behind MPI - particularly at this time when the LHC is due to start its "Run II" operations - has focused the aim of this workshop. MPI@LHC2014 concentrated mainly on the phenomenology of LHC measurements whilst kee** in perspective those results obtained at previous hadron colliders. The workshop has also debated some of the state-of-the-art theoretical considerations and the modeling of MPI in Monte Carlo event generators. The topics debated in the workshop included: Phenomenology of MPI processes and multiparton distributions; Considerations for the description of MPI in Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD); Measuring multiple partonic interactions; Experimental results on inelastic hadronic collisions: underlying event, minimum bias, forward energy flow; Monte Carlo generator development and tuning; Connections with low-x phenomena, diffraction, heavy-ion physics and cosmic rays. In a total of 57 plenary talks the workshop covered a wide range of experimental results, Monte Carlo development and tuning, phenomenology and dedicated measurements of MPI which were produced with data from the LHC's Run I. Recent progress of theoretical understanding of MPI in pp, pA and AA collisions as well as the role of MPI in diffraction and small-x physics were also covered. The workshop forstered close contact between the experimental and theoretical communities. It provided a setting to discuss many of the different aspects of MPI, eventually identifying them as a unifying concept between apparently different lines of research and evaluating their impact on the LHC physics programme.

Forward Drell-Yan process at the LHC probes the proton structure at very small Bjorken-$x$ and moderate hard scales. In this kinematical domain higher twist effects may be significant and introduce sizeable corrections to the standard leading twist description. We study the forward Drell-Yan process beyond the leading twist approximation within the color dipole model framework that incorporates multiple scattering effects. We derive the Mellin representation of the forward Drell-Yan impact factors for fully differential cross-sections. These results combined with the color dipole cross-section of the saturation model are used to perform twist expansion of the Drell-Yan structure functions at arbitrary transverse momentum $q_T$ of the Drell-Yan pair and also of the structure functions integrated over $q_T$. We also investigate the Lam-Tung relation, find that it is broken at twist 4 and provide explicit estimates for the breaking term.

Two forms of geometrical scaling are tested: originally proposed scaling which results from Golec-Biernat-Wusthoff model and scaling motivated by a dipole representation which takes into account charm mass. It turns out that in both cases some residual scaling is present and charm mass inclusion improves scaling quality.

We use recently proposed method of ratios to assess the quality of geometrical scaling in deep inelastic scattering for different forms of the saturation scale. We consider original form of geometrical scaling (motivated by the Balitski-Kovchegov (BK) equation with fixed coupling) studied in more detail in our previous paper, and four new hypotheses: phenomenologically motivated case with $Q^2$ dependent exponent $λ$ that governs small $x$ dependence of the saturation scale, two versions of scaling (running coupling 1 and 2) that follow from the BK equation with running coupling, and diffusive scaling suggested by the QCD evolution equation beyond mean field approximation. It turns out that more sophisticated scenarios: running coupling scaling and diffusive scaling are disfavored by the combined HERA data on $e^+p$ deep inelastic structure function $F_2$.

In particular, value of parameter λwhich governs x-dependence of saturation scale is found for both binnings: λ_En = 0.352 \pm 0.008 and λ_Bj = 0.302 \pm 0.004. We use the following method: λ_En is found as a value for which ratios σ^{W1}_{γ*p}(τ)/σ^{W2}_{γ*p}(τ) are closest to 1 (σ^{Wi}_{γ*p} is a photon-proton cross section with definite energy W_i and τ= Q^2 x^λ is a scaling variable); λ_Bj is found analogously using ratios of cross sections with definite Bjorken-x variable. We show also that GS is present for x<0.2.
