We study the possibility of testing quantum gravity (QG) effects with a type-I seesaw origin of light neutrino mass embedded in a global $U(1)_L$ symmetric framework which also includes dark matter (DM). The spontaneous breaking of $U(1)_L$ symmetry generates the seesaw scale as well as DM mass dynamically. The (pseudo) Nambu-Goldstone boson, known as majoron, acquires non-zero mass due to soft symmetry breaking terms of quadratic type in the scalar potential, which eventually breaks $U(1)_L$ to its $Z_2$ subgroup. The spontaneous symmetry breaking, which effectively breaks $Z_2$, leads to the formation of domain walls (DW), posing a threat to successful cosmology, if allowed to dominate. As gravity does not respect any global symmetries, we consider higher dimensional operators suppressed by the scale of QG namely, $Λ_{\rm QG}$ which introduces the required bias leading to DW annihilation and emission of stochastic gravitational waves (GW) observable at near future experiments. The same operators also lead to decay of DM bringing interesting indirect detection aspects. While DM is produced non-thermally via scalar portal interactions, light majoron can give rise to additional $ΔN_{\rm eff}$ within reach of future cosmic microwave background (CMB) experiments.

In this article, we summarise detection prospects and the wide scope of primordial events that could lead to a detectable stochastic gravitational wave background. Any such background would shed light on what (if anything) lies beyond the Standard Model, sometimes at remarkably high scales. We overview the range of strategies for detecting a stochastic gravitational wave background before delving deep into three major primordial events that can source such a background. The excess radio background detected by ARCADE 2 represents a puzzle within the standard cosmological model. There is no clear viable astrophysical solution, and therefore, it might indicate the presence of new physics. Radiative decays of a relic neutrino $ν_i$ (either $i=1$, or $i=2$, or $i=3$) into a sterile neutrino $ν_{\rm s}$, assumed to be quasi-degenerate, provide a solution that currently evades all constraints posed by different cosmological observations and reproduces very well the ARCADE 2 data. We find a very good fit to the ARCADE 2 data with best fit values $τ_i = 1.46 \times 10^{21}\,{\rm s}$ and $Δm_i = 4.0 \times 10^{-5}\,{\rm eV}$, where $τ_i$ is the lifetime and $Δm_i$ is the mass difference between the decaying active neutrino and the sterile neutrino. On the other hand, if relic neutrino decays do not explain ARCADE 2 data, then these place a stringent constraint $Δm_i^{3/2} τ_i \gtrsim 2 \times 10^{14}\,{\rm eV}^{3/2}\,{\rm s}$ in the range $1.4 \times 10^{-5} \, {\rm eV} < Δm_i < 2.5 \times 10^{-4}\,{\rm eV}$. The solution also predicts a stronger 21 cm absorption global signal than the predicted one from the $Λ$CDM model, with a contrast brightness temperature $T_{21} = -238^{+21}_{-20}\,{\rm mK}$ ($99\%$ C.L.) at redshift $z\simeq 17$. This is in mild tension with the even stronger signal found by the EDGES collaboration, $T_{21} = - 500^{+200}_{-500}\,{\rm mK} $, suggesting that this might have been overestimated, possibly receiving a contribution from some unidentified foreground source.

We explore the phenomenological consequences of breaking discrete global symmetries in quantum gravity (QG). We extend a previous scenario where discrete global symmetries are responsible for scalar dark matter (DM) and domain walls (DWs), to the case of fermionic DM, considered as a feebly interacting massive particle, which achieves the correct DM relic density via the freeze-in mechanism. Due to the mixing between DM and the standard model neutrinos, various indirect DM detection methods can be employed to constrain the QG scale, the scale of freeze-in, and the reheating temperature simultaneously. Since such QG symmetry breaking leads to DW annihilation, this may generate the characteristic gravitational wave background, and hence explain the recent observations of the gravitational wave spectrum by pulsar timing arrays. This work therefore highlights a tantalizing possibility of probing the effective scale of QG from observations.

We propose a novel framework where baryon asymmetry can arise due to forbidden decay of dark matter (DM) enabled by finite temperature effects in the early universe. In order to implement it in a realistic setup, we consider the DM to be a singlet Dirac fermion which acquires a dark asymmetry from a scalar field $Φ$ via Affleck-Dine mechanism. Due to finite-temperature effects, DM can decay in the early universe into leptons and a second Higgs doublet thereby transferring a part of the dark asymmetry into lepton asymmetry with the latter getting converted into baryon asymmetry subsequently via electroweak sphalerons. DM becomes stable below a critical temperature leading to a stable relic. While the scalar field $Φ$ can play the role of inflaton with specific predictions for inflationary parameters, the setup also remains verifiable via astrophysical as well as laboratory based observations.

We study the effect of an ultra-light primordial black hole (PBH) dominated phase on the gravitational wave (GW) spectrum generated by a cosmic string (CS) network formed as a result of a high-scale $U(1)$ symmetry breaking. A PBH-dominated phase leads to tilts in the spectrum via entropy dilution and generates a new GW spectrum from PBH density fluctuations, detectable at ongoing and planned near-future GW detectors. The combined spectrum has a unique shape with a plateau, a sharp tilted peak over the plateau, and a characteristic fall-off, which can be distinguished from the one generated in the combination of CS and any other matter domination or new exotic physics. We discuss how ongoing and planned future experiments can probe such a unique spectrum for different values of $U(1)$ breaking scale and PBH parameters such as initial mass and energy fraction.

Recently, it has been shown that the presence of a non-instantaneous era of reheating can significantly alter the charged lepton(s) equilibration temperature(s) which plays important role in flavor leptogenesis. In this work, we extend the analysis to a more general situation where RHNs are also produced from the decay of the inflaton. The presence of these RHNs along with the thermally generated ones (above its mass equivalent temperature only) redistributes different components of the energy density of the Universe during this reheating era, thereby affecting the charged lepton equilibration temperature (in addition to the Hubble effect) as well as the final reheating temperature $T_{\rm{RH}}$. Taking both the effects into account, we find that the decay of the lightest RHN in the set-up not only provides a platform to study flavor leptogenesis during reheating, but also an interesting framework of $quasi$-thermal leptogenesis emerges.

We propose a new way of probing non-thermal origin of baryon asymmetry of universe (BAU) and dark matter (DM) from evaporating primordial black holes (PBH) via stochastic gravitational waves (GW) emitted due to PBH density fluctuations. We adopt a baryogenesis setup where CP violating out-of-equilibrium decays of a coloured scalar, produced non-thermally at late epochs from PBH evaporation, lead to the generation of BAU. The same PBH evaporation is also responsible for non-thermal origin of superheavy DM. Unlike the case of baryogenesis {\it via leptogeneis} that necessarily corners the PBH mass to $\sim\mathcal{O}(1)$ g, here we can have PBH mass as large as $\sim\mathcal{O}(10^7)$ g due to the possibility of producing BAU directly below sphaleron decoupling temperature. Due to the larger allowed PBH mass we can also have observable GW with mHz-kHz frequencies originating from PBH density fluctuations kee** the model constrained and verifiable at ongoing as well as near future GW experiments like LIGO, BBO, DECIGO, CE, ET etc. Due to the presence of new coloured particles and baryon number violation, the model also has complementary detection prospects at laboratory experiments.

We discuss some testable predictions of a non-supersymmetric $SO(10)$ model supplemented by a Peccei-Quinn symmetry. We utilize a symmetry breaking pattern of $SO(10)$ that yields unification of the Standard Model gauge couplings, with the unification scale also linked to inflation driven by an $SO(10)$ singlet scalar field with a Coleman-Weinberg potential. Proton decay mediated by the superheavy gauge bosons may be observable at the proposed Hyper-Kamiokande experiment. Due to an unbroken $Z_2$ gauge symmetry from $SO(10)$, the model predicts the presence of a stable intermediate mass fermion which, together with the axion, provides the desired relic abundance of dark matter. The model also predicts the presence of intermediate scale topologically stable monopoles and strings that survive inflation. The monopoles may be present in the Universe at an observable level. We estimate the stochastic gravitational wave background emitted by the strings and show that it should be testable in a number of planned and proposed space and land based experiments. Finally, we show how the observed baryon asymmetry in the Universe is realized via non-thermal leptogenesis.

We propose a scenario where a high scale seesaw origin of light neutrino mass and gravitational dark matter (DM) in MeV-TeV ballpark originating from primordial black hole (PBH) evaporation can be simultaneously probed by future observations of stochastic gravitational wave (GW) background with multiple tilts or spectral breaks. A high scale breaking of an Abelian gauge symmetry ensures the dynamical origin of the seesaw scale while also leading to the formation of cosmic strings responsible for generating stochastic GW background. The requirement of a correct DM relic in this ballpark necessitates the inclusion of a diluter as PBH typically leads to DM overproduction. This leads to a second early matter dominated epoch after PBH evaporation due to the long-lived diluter. These two early matter dominated epochs, crucially connected to the DM relic, lead to multiple spectral breaks in the otherwise scale-invariant GW spectrum formed by cosmic strings. We find interesting correlations between DM mass and turning point frequencies of GW spectrum which are within reach of several near future experiments like LISA, BBO, ET, CE, etc.

This hybrid setup incorporates an extra $SU(2)_L$ complex singlet scalar whose lightest component plays the role of one of the dark matter, while the QCD axion of the KSVZ model acts as a second dark matter candidate. In this work, we focus on accentuating the role of vector-like quark that naturally emerges in the KSVZ extension on the dark matter and collider phenomenology. Here, we demonstrate that the presence of this colored particle can significantly affect the allowed dark matter parameter space of the scalar dark matter by opening up additional co-annihilation as well as the direct detection channels. Moreover, the interaction between the color particle with the top quark and scalar dark matter provides a unique topology to generate a boosted-top pair with considerable missing transverse momentum at the LHC. Using jet substructure variables and multivariate analysis, here we show that one can already exclude a vast region of parameter space with 139 $\text{fb}^{-1}$ integrated luminosity at 14 TeV LHC.

The triplet VEV provides a sizable contribution to the $W$ mass, which helps in significantly lowering the $7σ$ discrepancy between the Standard Model prediction and the higher CDF value for $m_W$. We show that the relatively light triplet mass ($\sim (1-50)$ TeV) is compatible with gauge coupling unification and observable proton decay. An unbroken $Z_2$ gauge symmetry, coupled with the presence of two fermionic $10$-plets required to resolve the axion domain wall problem, means that both axions and a stable intermediate mass ($\sim 10^9-10^{10}$ GeV) fermion are plausible dark matter candidates. We also display the gravitational wave spectrum from the intermediate scale topologically stable cosmic strings predicted by the model.

We propose a scenario where dark matter (DM) with a wide mass range from a few keV to PeV can be produced solely from evaporating primordial black holes (PBH), while being consistent with the required free streaming length for structure formation. If DM does not have any other interactions apart from gravity and the universe has a PBH dominated phase at early epoch, then PBH evaporation typically leads to overproduction of DM in this mass range. By incorporating this gravitational DM within a Type-I seesaw scenario with three right handed neutrinos (RHN), we bring the abundance of PBH generated DM within observed limits by late entropy injection due to decay of one of the RHNs, acting as the diluter. The diluter, due to its feeble coupling with the bath particles, gets produced primarily from the PBH evaporation thereby leading to the second stage of early matter domination after the end of PBH dominated era. The other two RHNs contribute to the origin of light neutrino mass and also lead to the observed baryon asymmetry via leptogenesis with contributions from both thermally and PBH generated RHNs. The criteria of DM relic and baryon asymmetry can be satisfied simultaneously if DM mass gets restricted to a ballpark in the MeV-GeV regime with the requirement of resonant leptogenesis for heavier DM mass in order to survive the large entropy dilution at late epochs.

We study the possibility of cogenesis of baryon and dark matter (DM) from the out-of-equilibrium CP violating decay of right handed neutrino (RHN) that are dominantly of non-thermal origin. While the RHN and its heavier partners can take part in light neutrino mass generation via Type-I seesaw mechanism, the decay of RHN into dark and visible sectors can create respective asymmetries simultaneously. The non-thermal sources of RHN considered are {\bf (a)} on-shell decay of inflaton, and {\bf (b)} evaporation of ultralight primordial black holes (PBH). After setting up the complete set of Boltzmann equations in both these scenarios, we constrain the resulting parameter space of the particle physics setup, along with inflaton and PBH sectors from the requirement of generating correct (asymmetric) DM abundance and baryon asymmetry, while being in agreement with other relevant cosmological bounds. Scenario {\bf (a)} links the common origin of DM and baryon asymmetry to post-inflationary reheating via RHNs produced in inflaton decay, whereas in scenario {\bf (b)} we find enhancement of baryon and DM abundance, compared to the purely thermal scenarios, in presence of PBH with appropriate mass and initial fraction. Although the minimal setup itself is very predictive with observational consequences, details of the UV completion of the dark sector can offer several complementary probes.

We also discuss DM production via freeze-in, governed by the non-minimal coupling, that requires $ξ\lesssim 10^{-5}$ to produce the observed DM abundance over a large range of DM mass depending on the choice of the reheating temperature. We further show, even in the absence of the non-minimal coupling, it is possible to produce the whole observed DM abundance via 2-to-2 scattering of the bath particles mediated by massless gravitons.

We propose a minimal model based on lepton number symmetry (and violation), to address a common origin of baryon asymmetry, dark matter and neutrino mass generation. The model consists of a vector like fermion to constitute the dark sector, three right handed neutrinos (RHN) to dictate leptogenesis and neutrino mass, while an additional complex scalar is assumed to be present in the early universe the decay of which produces both DM and RHN via lepton number violating and lepton number conserving interactions respectively. Interestingly, the presence of the same scalar helps in making the electroweak vacuum stable till the Planck scale. The unnatural largeness and smallness of the parameters required to describe correct experimental limits are attributed to lepton number violation. The allowed parameter space of the model is illustrated via a numerical scan.

We show that the type-I seesaw, responsible for generating the light neutrino mass, itself is capable of accommodating one of the three right handed neutrinos as a freeze-in type of dark matter (DM) where the required smallness of the associated coupling is connected to the lightness of the (smallest) active neutrino mass. It turns out that (a) the non-thermal production of DM having mass $\lesssim \mathcal{O}(1)$ MeV (via decays of $W, Z$ bosons and SM Higgs) consistent with relic density as well as (b) its stability determine this smallest active neutrino mass uniquely $\sim {\mathcal{O}}(10^{-12})$ eV. On the other hand, the study of flavor leptogenesis in this scenario (taking into account the latest neutrino data and Higgs vacuum stability issue) fixes the scale of two other right handed neutrinos.

We study a minimal scenario to realize non-thermal leptogenesis and UV freeze-in of a Standard Model (SM) gauge singlet fermionic dark matter (DM) simultaneously, with inflaton field playing a non-trivial role in their yields. The renormalizable interactions are restricted to the SM fields, two right handed neutrinos (RHN) and inflaton coupling exclusively to the RHNs, while the DM couples to both the SM and the RHNs only via operators of dimension $d>4$. Considering two separate cases of $d=\{5,6\}$, we show that for $d=5$, inflaton decay into RHNs followed by their subsequent decay into SM particles lead to both reheating as well as DM production from the SM bath. This requires a cut-off scale as large as $Λ\sim 10^{17}~\rm GeV$ depending on the DM mass. On the other hand, for $d=6$, DM production happens directly from scattering of RHNs (for $Λ\gtrsim 10^{14}~\rm GeV$) that results in a very non-trivial evolution of the DM yield. In both these cases, it is possible to explain the observed baryon asymmetry through successful non-thermal leptogenesis via the decay of the RHNs, together with the PLANCK observed relic density of the DM via pure UV freeze-in mechanism. Taking into account both instantaneous as well as non-instantaneous reheating separately, we constrain the parameter space of this minimal scenario from relevant phenomenological requirements including sub-eV scale active neutrino masses and their mixing.

A two-component scalar DM scenario comprising an additional scalar doublet and a $Y$ = 0 scalar triplet is proposed. Key features of the ensuing dark matter phenomenology are highlighted with emphasis on inter-conversion between the two dark matter components. For suitable choices of the model parameters, we show that such inter-conversion can explain the observed relic abundance when the doublet dark matter component has mass in the \emph{desert} region while the triplet component has sub-TeV mass. This finding is important in the context of such mass regions known to predict under-abundant relic for the standalone cases of the scalar doublet and triplet. In addition, we also show that the present scenario can stabilise the electroweak vacuum up to the Planck scale in the parameter space responsible for the requisite dark matter observables.

We consider an inert Higgs doublet (IHD) extension of the Standard Model accompanied with three right handed neutrinos and a dark sector, consisting of a singlet fermion and a scalar, in order to provide a common framework for dark matter, leptognesis and neutrino mass. While the Yukawa coupling of the right handed neutrinos with IHD (having mass in the intermediate regime: 80-500 GeV) is responsible for explaining the observed baryon asymmetry through leptogenesis, its coupling with the dark sector explains the dark matter relic density. The presence of IHD also explains the neutrino mass through radiative correction. We find that study of the high scale validity of the model in this context becomes crucial as it restricts the parameter space significantly. It turns out that there exists a small, but non-zero contribution to the relic density of DM from IHD too. Considering all the constraints from dark matter, leptogenesis, neutrino mass and high scale validity of the model, we perform a study to find out the viable parameter space.

We propose a two component dark matter set-up by extending the Standard Model with a singlet and a hypercharge-less triplet scalars, each of them being odd under different $Z_2$ symmetries. We observe that the inter-conversion between the two dark matter components allow a viable parameter space where masses of both the dark matter candidates can be below TeV, even though their individual contribution to single component dark matter rules out any such sub-TeV dark matter. We find that a lighter mass of the neutral component of the scalar triplet, playing the role of one dark matter component, compared to the scalar one is favored. In addition, the set-up is shown to make the electroweak vacuum absolutely stable till the Planck scale, thanks to Higgs portal coupling with the scalar dark matter components.

We study a scalar singlet dark matter (DM) having mass in sub-TeV regime by extending the minimal scalar singlet DM setup by additional vector like fermions. While the minimal scalar singlet DM satisfies the relic and direct detection constraints for mass beyond TeV only, presence of its portal coupling with vector like fermions opens up additional co-annihilation channels. These vector like fermions also help in achieving electroweak vacuum stability all the way up to Planck scale. We find that for one generation of vector like quarks consisting of a $SU(2)_L$ doublet and a singlet, scalar singlet DM with mass a few hundred GeV can indeed satisfy relic, direct detection and other relevant constraints while also making the electroweak vacuum absolutely stable. The same can be achieved by introducing vector like leptons too, but with three generations. While the model with vector like quarks is minimal, the three generations of vector like lepton doublet and neutral singlet can also give rise to light neutrino mass at one loop level.

We perform a model independent study of freeze-in of massive particle dark matter (DM) by adopting an effective field theory framework. Considering the dark matter to be a gauge singlet Majorana fermion, odd under a stabilising symmetry $Z_2$ under which all standard model (SM) fields are even, we write down all possible DM-SM operators upto and including mass dimension eight. For simplicity of the numerical analysis we restrict ourselves only to the scalar operators in SM as well as in the dark sector. We calculate the DM abundance for each such dimension of operator considering both UV and IR freeze-in contributions which can arise before and after the electroweak symmetry breaking respectively. After constraining the cut-off scale and reheat temperature of the universe from the requirement of correct DM relic abundance, we also study the possibility of connecting the origin of neutrino mass to the same cut-off scale by virtue of lepton number violating Weinberg operators. We thus compare the bounds on such cut-off scale and corresponding reheat temperature required for UV freeze-in from the origin of light neutrino mass as well as from the requirement of correct DM relic abundance. We also briefly comment upon the possibilities of realising such DM-SM effective operators in a UV complete model.

Standard Model with right handed neutrinos charged under additional $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge symmetry offer solutions to both dark matter (DM) problem and neutrino mass generation, although constrained severely from relic density, direct search and Higgs vacuum stability. We therefore investigate a multicomponent DM scenario augmented by an extra inert scalar doublet, that is neutral under $U(1)_{B-L}$, which aids to enlarge parameter space allowed by DM constraints and Higgs vacuum stability. The lightest right-handed neutrino and the $CP$-even inert scalar are taken as the dark matter candidates and constitute a two component dark matter framework as they are rendered stable by an unbroken $\mathbb{Z}_2 \times \mathbb{Z}_2^\prime$ symmetry. DM-DM conversion processes turn out crucial to render requisite relic abundance in mass regions of the RH neutrino that do not appear in the stand-alone $U(1)_{B-L}$ scenario. In addition, the one-loop renormalisation group (RG) equations in this model demonstrate that the electroweak (EW) vacuum can be stabilised till $\sim 10^{9}$ GeV in a parameter region compatible with the observed relic, the direct detection bound and other relevant constraints.

We propose a minimal extension of the Standard Model to accommodate two-component dark matter (DM) and light neutrino mass. The symmetry of the Standard Model is enhanced by an unbroken $\mathbb{Z}_2 \times \mathbb{Z}'_2$ such that being odd under each $\mathbb{Z}_2$, there exists one right handed neutrino and one inert scalar doublet. Therefore, each of the $\mathbb{Z}_2$ sectors contribute to ($i$) light neutrino masses radiatively similar to the scotogenic models while ($ii$) the two neutral CP even scalars present in two additional inert doublets play the role of dark matters. Focusing on the intermediate range of inert scalar doublet DM scenario: $M_W \leq M_{\rm DM} \lesssim 500 \; {\rm GeV}$, where one scalar doublet DM can not satisfy correct relic, we show that this entire range becomes allowed within this two-component scalar doublet DM, thanks to the inter-conversion between the two DM candidates in presence of neutrino Yukawa couplings with dark sector.
