In this paper, we propose an experiment, LANSCE-mQ, aiming to detect fractionally charged and millicharged particles (mCP) using an 800 MeV proton beam fixed target at the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE) facility. This search can shed new light on numerous fundamental questions, including charge quantization, the predictions of string theories and grand unification theories, the gauge symmetry of the Standard Model, dark sector models, and the tests of cosmic reheating. We propose to install two-layer scintillation detectors made of plastic (such as EJ-200) or CeBr3 to search for mCPs. Dedicated Geant4 detector simulations and in situ measurements have been conducted to obtain a preliminary determination of the background rate. The dominant backgrounds are beam-induced neutrons and coincident dark current signals from the photomultiplier tubes, while beam-induced gammas and cosmic muons are subdominant. We determined that LANSCE-mQ, the dedicated mCP experiment, has the leading mCP sensitivity for mass between ~ 1 MeV to 300 MeV.

This paper investigates the neutrino transition magnetic moment in the $U(1)_X$SSM. $U(1)_X$SSM is the $U(1)$ extension of Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) and its local gauge group is extended to $SU(3)_C\times SU(2)_L \times U(1)_Y\times U(1)_X$. To obtain this model, three singlet new Higgs superfields and right-handed neutrinos are added to the MSSM, which can explain the results of neutrino oscillation experiments. The neutrino transition magnetic moment is induced by electroweak radiative corrections. By applying effective Lagrangian method and on-shell scheme, we study the associated Feynman diagrams and the transition magnetic moment of neutrinos in the model. We fit experimental data for neutrino mass variances and mixing angle. Based on the range of data selection, the influences of different sensitive parameters on the results are analysed. The numerical analysis shows that many parameters have an effect on the neutrino transition moment, such as $g_X$, $M_2$, $λ_H$ and $g_{YX}$. For our numerical results, the order of magnitude of $μ_{ij}$ is between $10^{-20}$ and $10^{-19}$.

In this work we try to search for signals generated by ultra-heavy dark matter at the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) data. We look for possible gamma-ray by dark matter annihilation or decay from 16 dwarf spheroidal galaxies in the field of view of LHAASO. Dwarf spheroidal galaxies are among the most promising targets for indirect detection of dark matter which have low fluxes of astrophysical $γ$-ray background while large amount of dark matter. By analyzing more than 700 days observational data at LHAASO, no significant dark matter signal from 1 TeV to 1 EeV is detected. Accordingly we derive the most stringent constraints on the ultra-heavy dark matter annihilation cross-section up to EeV. The constraints on the lifetime of dark matter in decay mode are also derived.

We measure the following relative branching fractions $${\cal B}(Ξ_{c}^{0}\toΞ^{0}π^{0})/{\cal B}(Ξ_{c}^{0}\toΞ^{-}π^{+}) = 0.48 \pm 0.02 ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.03 ({\rm syst}) ,$$ $${\cal B}(Ξ_{c}^{0}\toΞ^{0}η)/{\cal B}(Ξ_{c}^{0}\toΞ^{-}π^{+}) = 0.11 \pm 0.01 ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.01 ({\rm syst}) ,$$ $${\cal B}(Ξ_{c}^{0}\toΞ^{0}η^{\prime})/{\cal B}(Ξ_{c}^{0}\toΞ^{-}π^{+}) = 0.08 \pm 0.02 ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.01 ({\rm syst}) $$ for the first time, where the uncertainties are statistical ($\rm stat$) and systematic ($\rm syst$). By multiplying by the branching fraction of the normalization mode, ${\mathcal B}(Ξ_{c}^{0}\toΞ^{-}π^{+})$, we obtain the following absolute branching fraction results $(6.9 \pm 0.3 ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.5 ({\rm syst}) \pm 1.3 ({\rm norm})) \times 10^{-3}$, $(1.6 \pm 0.2 ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.2 ({\rm syst}) \pm 0.3 ({\rm norm})) \times 10^{-3}$, and $(1.2 \pm 0.3 ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.1 ({\rm syst}) \pm 0.2 ({\rm norm})) \times 10^{-3}$, for $Ξ_{c}^{0}$ decays to $Ξ^{0}π^{0}$, $Ξ^{0}η$, and $Ξ^{0}η^{\prime}$ final states, respectively. The third errors are from the uncertainty on ${\mathcal B}(Ξ_{c}^{0}\toΞ^{-}π^{+})$. The asymmetry parameter for $Ξ_{c}^{0}\toΞ^{0}π^{0}$ is measured to be $α(Ξ_{c}^{0}\toΞ^{0}π^{0}) = -0.90\pm0.15({\rm stat})\pm0.23({\rm syst})$.

The invisible decay includes two decay modes: $ n \rightarrow { inv} $ and $ nn \rightarrow { inv} $. The invisible decays of $s$-shell neutrons in $^{12}{\rm C}$ will leave a highly excited residual nucleus. Subsequently, some de-excitation modes of the excited residual nuclei can produce a time- and space-correlated triple coincidence signal in the JUNO detector. Based on a full Monte Carlo simulation informed with the latest available data, we estimate all backgrounds, including inverse beta decay events of the reactor antineutrino $\barν_e$, natural radioactivity, cosmogenic isotopes and neutral current interactions of atmospheric neutrinos. Pulse shape discrimination and multivariate analysis techniques are employed to further suppress backgrounds. With two years of exposure, JUNO is expected to give an order of magnitude improvement compared to the current best limits. After 10 years of data taking, the JUNO expected sensitivities at a 90% confidence level are $τ/B( n \rightarrow { inv} ) > 5.0 \times 10^{31} \, {\rm yr}$ and $τ/B( nn \rightarrow { inv} ) > 1.4 \times 10^{32} \, {\rm yr}$.

We conduct a thorough analysis of the underlying mechanisms and parameter dependencies of $h \rightarrow bs$ in the $U(1)_X$SSM. In the $U(1)_X$SSM, we discover that the Br$(h \rightarrow bs)$ for the Higgs decay to $bs$ could significantly differ from the expectation in the standard model (SM), depending on the values of the new parameters introduced in the model. Our research not only contributes to a deeper understanding of Higgs physics within the $U(1)_X$SSM, but also provides valuable guidance for new physics (NP).

Dark photon dark matter emerges as a compelling candidate for ultralight bosonic dark matter, detectable through resonant conversion into photons within a plasma environment. This study employs in-situ measurements from the Parker Solar Probe (PSP), the first spacecraft to venture into the solar corona, to probe for DPDM signatures. The PSP in-situ measurements go beyond the traditional radio window, spanning frequencies between about 10 kHz and 20 MHz, a challenging range inaccessible to Earth-based radio astronomy. Additionally, the proximity of PSP to the resonant conversion location enhances the signal flux, providing a distinct advantage over ground-based observations. As a result, the PSP data establishes the most stringent constraints on the kinetic mixing parameter $ε$ for DPDM frequencies between 70 kHz and 20 MHz, with values of $ε\lesssim 10^{-14}-10^{-13}$. Investigating the data from STEREO satellites resulted in weaker constraints compared to those obtained from PSP. By utilizing state-of-the-art solar observations from space, we have surpassed the cosmic microwave background limits established in the early universe.

The decays of exotic states discovered experimentally always proceed via the strong and electromagnetic interactions. Recently, a tetraquark state with the quark content $bc\bar{q}\bar{q}$ was predicted by Lattice QCD simulations. It is below the mass threshold of $D\bar{B}$, which can only decay via the weak interaction. In this work, based on the decay mechanism of $T_{cc}$ as a $DD^*$ molecule, we propose that the decays of the $bc\bar{q}\bar{q}$ tertaquark state as a $D\bar{B}$ molecule proceed via the Cabibbo-favored weak decays of the $\bar{B}$ or $D$ meson, accompanied by the tree-level decay modes and the triangle decay modes. Our results indicate that the branching fraction of the $D\bar{B}$ molecule decaying into $π^+ K^{-} \bar{B}^0$ is sizable, which is a good channel to observe the $D\bar{B}$ molecule in future experiments.

In this paper, the relic density of right-handed neutrino as dark matter is investigated. For dark matter scattering, both spin-independent and spin-dependent cross sections are studied. In the final numerical results obtained, some parameter spaces can satisfy the constraints of the relic density and dark matter direct detection experiments.

There have been extended and heated discussions on the nature of the two exotic states, $Z_c(3900)$ and $Z_{cs}(3985)$, particularly whether they are resonances or virtual states. We demonstrate for the first time that the femtoscopic technique can be used to unambiguously distinguish between such two scenarios. More concretely, we show that the $D^0D^{*-}$/$D^0D_s^{*-}$ correlation functions are significantly different in the high-momentum region, especially in small collision systems of the order of 1 fm, as produced in pp collisions at the LHC, which can unambiguously tell whether $Z_c(3900)$/$Z_{cs}(3985)$ is a resonant or a virtual state. For the $Z_{cs}(3985)$, the $D^0D_s^{*-}$ results at zero momentum are significantly different in the two scenarios. We hope all these discoveries can stimulate further experimental studies and help clarify the nature of the many exotic states discovered.

Since they are located close to the mass thresholds of $\bar{D}D_{1}$ and $\bar{D}^*D_{1}$, they can be viewed as $\bar{D}D_{1}$ and $\bar{D}^*D_{1}$ molecules. Furthermore, recent studies indicated that the exotic states $X(3872)$/$Z_c(3900)$ and $X_2(4013)$/$Z_c(4020)$ are the isoscalar/isovector $\bar{D}D^{*}$ and isoscalar/isovector $\bar{D}^*D^{*}$ molecules, respectively. In this work, in the molecular picture, we employ the triangle diagram mechanism to study the productions of $ Z_{c}(3900) $ and $X(3872)$ in the pionic and radiative decays of $Y(4220)$, as well as their heavy-quark spin symmetry (HQSS) partners, i.e., the productions of $Z_{c}(4020)$ and $X_2(4013)$ in the pionic and radiative decays of $Y(4360)$. Using the effective Lagrangian approach, we obtain the ratios of the branching fractions $\mathcal{B}[Y(4360) \to Z_c(4020)π]/\mathcal{B}[Y(4220)\to Z_c(3900)π]=1.2$ and $\mathcal{B}[Y(4360)\to X_2(4013) γ]/\mathcal{B}[Y(4220)\to X(3872)γ]=0.5$, almost independent of model parameters, which indicate that the productions of $X_2(4013)$ and $Z_c(4020)$ in the radiative and pionic decays of $Y(4360)$ are likely to be measured in the future. The experimental studies of the predicted decay modes will help verify the molecular nature of $X(3872)$, $Z_c(3900)$, and $Y(4220)$. We hope the present work can stimulate experimental and further theoretical studies on these decay modes.

In the past two decades, a plethora of hadronic states beyond the conventional quark model of $q\bar{q}$ mesons and $qqq$ baryons have been observed experimentally, which motivated extensive studies to understand their nature and the non-perturbative strong interaction. Since most of these exotic states are near the mass thresholds of a pair of conventional hadrons, the prevailing picture is that they are primarily hadronic molecules. In principle, one can verify the molecular nature of these states by thoroughly comparing their masses, decay widths, and production rates in a particular picture with experimental data. However, this is difficult or impossible. First, quantum mechanics allows for the mixing of configurations allowed by symmetries and quantum numbers. Second, data are relatively scarce because of their small production rates and the many difficulties in the experimental measurements. As a result, other alternatives need to be explored. This review summarizes three such approaches that can help disentangle the nature of the many exotic hadrons discovered. In the first approach, based on the molecular interpretations for some exotic states, we study the likely existence of multiplets of hadronic molecules related by various symmetries, such as isospin symmetry, SU(3)-flavor symmetry, heavy quark spin/flavor symmetry, and heavy antiquark diquark symmetry. In the second approach, starting from some hadronic molecular candidates, one can derive the underlying hadron-hadron interactions. With these interactions, one can study related three-body systems and check whether three-body bound states/resonances exist. In the third approach, one can turn to the femtoscopy technique to derive the hadron-hadron interactions, hence inaccessible. This technique provided an unprecedented opportunity to understand the interactions between unstable hadrons.

The absolute branching fraction of $D^0\to K^-π^0μ^{+}ν_μ$ is measured for the first time to be $(0.729 \pm 0.014_{\rm stat} \pm 0.011_{\rm syst})\%$. Based on an amplitude analysis, the $S\text{-}{\rm wave}$ contribution is determined to be $(5.76 \pm 0.35_{\rm stat} \pm 0.29_{\rm syst})\%$ of the total decay rate in addition to the dominated $K^{*}(892)^-$ component. The branching fraction of $D^0\to K^{*}(892)^-μ^+ν_μ$ is given to be $(2.062 \pm 0.039_{\rm stat} \pm 0.032_{\rm syst})\%$, which improves the precision of the world average by a factor of 5. Combining with the world average of ${\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^{*}(892)^-e^+ν_e)$, the ratio of the branching fractions obtained is $\frac{{\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^{*}(892)^-μ^+ν_μ)}{{\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^{*}(892)^-e^+ν_e)} = 0.96\pm0.08$, in agreement with lepton flavor universality. Furthermore, assuming single-pole dominance parameterization, the most precise hadronic form factor ratios for $D^0\to K^{*}(892)^{-} μ^+ν_μ$ are extracted to be $r_{V}=V(0)/A_1(0)=1.37 \pm 0.09_{\rm stat} \pm 0.03_{\rm syst}$ and $r_{2}=A_2(0)/A_1(0)=0.76 \pm 0.06_{\rm stat} \pm 0.02_{\rm syst}$.

We address a general problem in the evaluation of triangle loops stemming from the consideration of the range of the interaction involved in some of the vertices, as well as the energy dependence of the width of some unstable particles in the loop. We find sizeable corrections from both effects. We apply that to a loop relevant to the $D_s^+ \to π^+ π^0 η$ decay, and find reductions of about a factor of $4$ in the mass distribution of invariant mass of the $πη$ in the region of the $a_0(980)$. The method used is based on the explicit analytical evaluation of the $q^0$ integration in the $d^4q$ loop integration, using Cauchy's residues method, which at the same time offers an insight on the convergence of the integrals and the effect of form factors and cutoffs.

With the so-obtained decay constants $f_{D_{s0}^{\ast}(2317)}$ and $f_{D_{s1}(2460)}$, we calculate the branching fractions of the $b$-meson decays $B_{(s)}\to \bar{D}_{(s)}^{(*)}D_{s0}^*$ and $B_{(s)}\to \bar{D}_{(s)}^{(*)}D_{s1}$ and the $b$-baryon decays $Λ_b(Ξ_{b}) \to Λ_c(Ξ_{c}) D_{s0}^*$ and $Λ_b(Ξ_{b}) \to Λ_c(Ξ_c) D_{s1}$. Our results show that the production rates of $D_{s0}^{\ast}(2317)$ and $D_{s1}(2460)$ in the $B_s$, $Λ_b$ and $Ξ_b$ decays are rather large that future experiments could observe them. In particular, we demonstrate that one can extract the decay constants of hadronic molecules via the triangle mechanism because of the equivalence of the triangle mechanism to the tree diagram established in calculating the decays $B \to \bar{D}^{(*)}D_{s0}^{\ast}(2317)$ and $B \to \bar{D}^{(*)}D_{s1}(2460)$.

In particular, we calculate the relevant leading-order two-pion exchange contributions. The results compare favorably with the lattice QCD results, supporting the conclusion that the intermediate-range $DD^*$ interaction is dominated by two-pion exchanges and the one-pion exchange contribution is absent. At a quantitative level, the covariant ChPT results agree better with the lattice QCD results than their non-relativistic counterparts, showing the relevance of relativistic corrections in the charm sector.

In the present study, we investigate the decays of the top quark $t\rightarrow cγ$, $t\rightarrow cg$, $t\rightarrow cZ$ and $t\rightarrow ch$. They are extremely rare processes in the Standard Model (SM). As the $U(1)$ extension of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM), the $U(1)_X$SSM features new superfields such as the right-handed neutrinos and three Higgs singlets. We analyze the effects of different sensitive parameters on the results and make reasonable theorecial predictions, which provides a useful reference for future experimental development. Considering the constraint of the updated experimental data, the numerical results show that the branching ratios of all four processes $t\rightarrow cγ,~cg,~cZ,~ch$ can reach the same order of magnitude as their experimental upper limits. Among them, $\tanβ$ has the most obvious effect on each process and is the main parameter. $g_X$, $g_{YX}$, $μ$, $M_2$, $λ_H$, $M_{U23}^2$ and $M_{Q23}^2$ are important parameters for the processes, and have effects on the numerical results.

The partial decay widths and production mechanism of the three pentaquark states, $P_ψ^{N}(4312)$, $P_ψ^{N}(4440)$, and $P_ψ^{N}(4457)$, discovered by the LHCb Collaboration in 2019, are still under debate. In this work, we employ the contact-range effective field theory approach to construct the $\bar{D}^{(*)}Σ_{c}^{(*)}$, $\bar{D}^{*}Λ_c$, $\bar{D}Λ_c$, $J/ψp$, and $η_c p$ coupled-channel interactions to dynamically generate the multiplet of hidde-charm pentaquark molecules by reproducing the masses and widths of $P_ψ^{N}(4312)$, $P_ψ^{N}(4440)$, and $P_ψ^{N}(4457)$. Assuming that the pentaquark molecules are produced in the $Λ_b$ decay via the triangle diagrams, where $Λ_{b}$ firstly decays into $D_{s}^{(\ast)}Λ_{c}$, then $D_{s}^{(\ast)}$ scatters into $\bar{D}^{(\ast)}K$, and finally the molecules are dynamically generated by the $\bar{D}^{(\ast)}Λ_{c}$ interactions, we calculate the branching fractions of the decays $Λ_b \to {P_ψ^{N}}K$ using the effective Lagrangian approach. With the partial decay widths of these pentaquark molecules, we further estimate the branching fraction of the decays $ Λ_b \to ( P_ψ^{N} \to J/ψp )K $ and $ Λ_b \to ( P_ψ^{N}\to \bar{D}^* Λ_c )K $. Our results show that the pentaquark states $P_ψ^{N}(4312)$, $P_ψ^{N}(4440)$, and $P_ψ^{N}(4457)$ as hadronic molecules can be produced in the $Λ_b$ decay, and on the other hand their heavy quark spin symmetry partners are invisible in the $J/ψp$ invariant mass distribution because of the small production rates. Our studies show that is possible to observe some of the pentaquark states in the $Λ_b\to \bar{D}^*Λ_c K$ decays.

The core-collapse supernova (CCSN) is considered one of the most energetic astrophysical events in the universe. The early and prompt detection of neutrinos before (pre-SN) and during the supernova (SN) burst presents a unique opportunity for multi-messenger observations of CCSN events. In this study, we describe the monitoring concept and present the sensitivity of the system to pre-SN and SN neutrinos at the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO), a 20 kton liquid scintillator detector currently under construction in South China. The real-time monitoring system is designed to ensure both prompt alert speed and comprehensive coverage of progenitor stars. It incorporates prompt monitors on the electronic board as well as online monitors at the data acquisition stage. Assuming a false alert rate of 1 per year, this monitoring system exhibits sensitivity to pre-SN neutrinos up to a distance of approximately 1.6 (0.9) kiloparsecs and SN neutrinos up to about 370 (360) kiloparsecs for a progenitor mass of 30 solar masses, considering both normal and inverted mass ordering scenarios. The pointing ability of the CCSN is evaluated by analyzing the accumulated event anisotropy of inverse beta decay interactions from pre-SN or SN neutrinos. This, along with the early alert, can play a crucial role in facilitating follow-up multi-messenger observations of the next galactic or nearby extragalactic CCSN.

The branching-fraction ratio ${\mathcal B}(J/ψ\to e^+ e^- η(1405))$/${\mathcal B}(J/ψ\to γη(1405))$ is determined to be $(1.35\pm0.19(\rm{stat.})\pm0.06(\rm{syst.}))\times10^{-2}$. Furthermore, an $e^+e^-$ invariant-mass dependent transition form factor of $J/ψ\to e^+ e^-η(1405)$ is presented for the first time. The obtained result provides input for different theoretical models, and is valuable for the improved understanding the intrinsic structure of the $η(1405)$ meson.

The numerical results of $R_{D^{(*)}}$ are further corrected under $U(1)_X$SSM, which are much better than the SM predictions. We discuss JUNO sensitivity to the annihilation of MeV dark matter in the galactic halo via detecting inverse beta decay reactions of electron anti-neutrinos resulting from the annihilation. We study possible backgrounds to the signature, including the reactor neutrinos, diffuse supernova neutrino background, charged- and neutral-current interactions of atmospheric neutrinos, backgrounds from muon-induced fast neutrons and cosmogenic isotopes. A fiducial volume cut, as well as the pulse shape discrimination and the muon veto are applied to suppress the above backgrounds. It is shown that JUNO sensitivity to the thermally averaged dark matter annihilation rate in 10 years of exposure would be significantly better than the present-day best limit set by Super-Kamiokande and would be comparable to that expected by Hyper-Kamiokande.

In total, the catalog contains 90 sources with an extended size smaller than $2^\circ$ and a significance of detection at $> 5σ$. Based on our source association criteria, 32 new TeV sources are proposed in this study. Among the 90 sources, 43 sources are detected with ultra-high energy ($E > 100$ TeV) emission at $> 4σ$ significance level. In this paper, we study the lepton flavor violating decays of the $l_j\rightarrow l_i γγ$ (j=2, 3; i=1, 2) processes under the $U(1)_X$SSM. The $U(1)_X$SSM is the addition of three singlet new Higgs superfields and right-handed neutrinos to the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). Based on the latest experimental constraints of $l_j\rightarrow l_i γγ$, we analyze the effects of different sensitive parameters on the results and made reasonable predictions for future experimental development. Numerical analysis shows that many parameters have a greater or lesser effect on lepton flavor violation(LFV), but the main sensitive parameters and sources leading to LFV are the non-diagonal elements involving the initial and final leptons. This work could provide a basis for the discovery of the existence of new physics (NP).

We show that the large isospin breaking of the ratio $\mathcal{B}[B^+ \to X(3872) K^+]/\mathcal{B}[B^0 \to X(3872) K^0] $ can be attributed to the isospin breaking of the neutral and charged $\bar{D}^*D$ components in their wave functions. For the same reason, the branching fractions of $Z_c(3900)$ in $B$ decays are smaller than the corresponding ones of $X(3872)$ by at least one order of magnitude, which naturally explains its non-observation. A hierarchy for the production fractions of $X(3872)$, $Z_c(3900)$, $X_2(4013)$, and $Z_c(4020)$ in $B$ decays, consistent with all existing data, is predicted. Furthermore, with the factorization ansatz we extract the decay constants of $X(3872)$, $Z_c(3900)$, and $Z_c(4020)$ as $\bar{D}^*D^{(*)}$ molecules via the $B$ decays, and then calculate their branching fractions in the relevant $B_{(s)}$ decays, which turn out to agree with all existing experimental data. The mechanism we proposed is useful to elucidate the internal structure of the many exotic hadrons discovered so far and to extract the decay constants of hadronic molecules, which can be used to predict their production in related processes.

Hot QCD physics studies the nuclear strong force under extreme temperature and densities. Experimentally these conditions are achieved via high-energy collisions of heavy ions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). In the past decade, a unique and substantial suite of data was collected at RHIC and the LHC, probing hydrodynamics at the nucleon scale, the temperature dependence of the transport properties of quark-gluon plasma, the phase diagram of nuclear matter, the interaction of quarks and gluons at different scales and much more. This document, as part of the 2023 nuclear science long range planning process, was written to review the progress in hot QCD since the 2015 Long Range Plan for Nuclear Science, as well as highlight the realization of previous recommendations, and present opportunities for the next decade, building on the accomplishments and investments made in theoretical developments and the construction of new detectors. Furthermore, this document provides additional context to support the recommendations voted on at the Joint Hot and Cold QCD Town Hall Meeting, which are reported in a separate document.

The STCF will produce a data sample about a factor of 100 larger than that by the present $τ$-Charm factory -- the BEPCII, providing a unique platform for exploring the asymmetry of matter-antimatter (charge-parity violation), in-depth studies of the internal structure of hadrons and the nature of non-perturbative strong interactions, as well as searching for exotic hadrons and physics beyond the Standard Model. The STCF project in China is under development with an extensive R\&D program. This document presents the physics opportunities at the STCF, describes conceptual designs of the STCF detector system, and discusses future plans for detector R\&D and physics case studies.

This White Paper presents the community inputs and scientific conclusions from the Hot and Cold QCD Town Meeting that took place September 23-25, 2022 at MIT, as part of the Nuclear Science Advisory Committee (NSAC) 2023 Long Range Planning process. A total of 424 physicists registered for the meeting. The meeting highlighted progress in Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) nuclear physics since the 2015 LRP (LRP15) and identified key questions and plausible paths to obtaining answers to those questions, defining priorities for our research over the coming decade. In defining the priority of outstanding physics opportunities for the future, both prospects for the short (~ 5 years) and longer term (5-10 years and beyond) are identified together with the facilities, personnel and other resources needed to maximize the discovery potential and maintain United States leadership in QCD physics worldwide. This White Paper is organized as follows: In the Executive Summary, we detail the Recommendations and Initiatives that were presented and discussed at the Town Meeting, and their supporting rationales. Section 2 highlights major progress and accomplishments of the past seven years. It is followed, in Section 3, by an overview of the physics opportunities for the immediate future, and in relation with the next QCD frontier: the EIC. Section 4 provides an overview of the physics motivations and goals associated with the EIC. Section 5 is devoted to the workforce development and support of diversity, equity and inclusion. This is followed by a dedicated section on computing in Section 6. Section 7 describes the national need for nuclear data science and the relevance to QCD research.

Our results show that none of the three-body systems bind. On the other hand, we find that with the one-boson exchange potentials the $ΩΩΩ$ system develops a bound state, for which the $^5S_2$ interaction plays an important role. Our studies support the existence of the $\frac{3}{2}^+$ $ΩΩΩ$ bound state and the nonexistence of the $\frac{3}{2}^+$ $Ω_{ccc}Ω_{ccc}Ω_{ccc}$ and $Ω_{bbb}Ω_{bbb}Ω_{bbb}$ bound states, due to the suppressed $^5S_2$ interactions in heavier systems.

Evidence for a flavor asymmetry between the $\bar u$ and $\bar d$ quark distributions in the proton has been found in deep-inelastic scattering and Drell-Yan experiments. The pronounced dependence of this flavor asymmetry on $x$ (fraction of nucleon momentum carried by partons) observed in the Fermilab E866 Drell-Yan experiment suggested a drop of the $\bar d\left(x\right) / \bar u\left(x\right)$ ratio in the $x > 0.15$ region. We report results from the SeaQuest Fermilab E906 experiment with improved statistical precision for $\bar d\left(x\right) / \bar u\left(x\right)$ in the large $x$ region up to $x=0.45$ using the 120 GeV proton beam. Two different methods for extracting the Drell-Yan cross section ratios, $σ^{pd} /2 σ^{pp}$, from the SeaQuest data give consistent results. The $\bar{d}\left(x\right) / \bar{u}\left(x\right)$ ratios and the $\bar d\left(x\right) - \bar u\left(x\right)$ differences are deduced from these cross section ratios for $0.13 < x < 0.45$. The SeaQuest and E866/NuSea $\bar{d}\left(x\right) / \bar{u}\left(x\right)$ ratios are in good agreement for the $x\lesssim 0.25$ region. The new SeaQuest data, however, show that $\bar d\left(x\right)$ continues to be greater than $\bar u\left(x\right)$ up to the highest $x$ value ($x = 0.45$). The new results on $\bar{d}\left(x\right) / \bar{u}\left(x\right)$ and $\bar{d}\left(x\right) - \bar{u}\left(x\right)$ are compared with various parton distribution functions and theoretical calculations.

The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) is a large liquid scintillator detector designed to explore many topics in fundamental physics. In this paper, the potential on searching for proton decay in $p\to \barνK^+$ mode with JUNO is investigated. The kaon and its decay particles feature a clear three-fold coincidence signature that results in a high efficiency for identification. Moreover, the excellent energy resolution of JUNO permits to suppress the sizable background caused by other delayed signals. Based on these advantages, the detection efficiency for the proton decay via $p\to \barνK^+$ is 36.9% with a background level of 0.2 events after 10 years of data taking. The estimated sensitivity based on 200 kton-years exposure is $9.6 \times 10^{33}$ years, competitive with the current best limits on the proton lifetime in this channel.

The branching fraction is determined to be ${\mathcal B}(Σ^+ \to Λe^+ ν_{e}) = [2.93\pm0.74(\rm stat) \pm 0.13(\rm syst)]\times 10^{-5}$, which is the most precise measurement obtained in a single experiment to date and also the first result obtained at a collider experiment. Combining this result with the world average of ${\mathcal B}(Σ^- \to Λe^- \barν_{e})$ and the lifetimes of $Σ^{\pm}$, the ratio, $\frac{Γ(Σ^- \to Λe^- \barν_{e})}{Γ(Σ^+ \to Λe^+ ν_{e})}$, is determined to be $1.06 \pm 0.28$, which is within 1.8 standard deviations of the value expected in the absence of second-class currents that are forbidden in the Standard Model.

The analysis involves performing of a $χ^{2}$ test to detect the presence of an excited electron $e^{*}$ and evidence of non-point like behavior in the $e^+e^-$ annihilation zone. The results of the analysis indicate a strong signal, with a confidence level of approximately $5σ$, for the presence of an excited electron with a mass of $308\pm 14$ GeV, and a deviation from a point-like behavior of the charge distribution of the electron. The radius of this deviation is $1.57\pm0.07\times 10^{-17}$ cm, which can be interpreted as the size of the electron.

The physics potential of detecting $^8$B solar neutrinos will be exploited at the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO), in a model independent manner by using three distinct channels of the charged-current (CC), neutral-current (NC) and elastic scattering (ES) interactions. Due to the largest-ever mass of $^{13}$C nuclei in the liquid-scintillator detectors and the {expected} low background level, $^8$B solar neutrinos would be observable in the CC and NC interactions on $^{13}$C for the first time. By virtue of optimized event selections and muon veto strategies, backgrounds from the accidental coincidence, muon-induced isotopes, and external backgrounds can be greatly suppressed. Excellent signal-to-background ratios can be achieved in the CC, NC and ES channels to guarantee the $^8$B solar neutrino observation. From the sensitivity studies performed in this work, we show that JUNO, with ten years of data, can reach the {1$σ$} precision levels of 5%, 8% and 20% for the $^8$B neutrino flux, $\sin^2θ_{12}$, and $Δm^2_{21}$, respectively. It would be unique and helpful to probe the details of both solar physics and neutrino physics. In addition, when combined with SNO, the world-best precision of 3% is expected for the $^8$B neutrino flux measurement.

More than a century after the performance of the oil drop experiment, the possible existence of fractionally charged particles FCP still remains unsettled. The search for FCPs is crucial for some extensions of the Standard Model in particle physics. Most of the previously conducted searches for FCPs in cosmic rays were based on experiments underground or at high altitudes. However, there have been few searches for FCPs in cosmic rays carried out in orbit other than AMS-01 flown by a space shuttle and BESS by a balloon at the top of the atmosphere. In this study, we conduct an FCP search in space based on on-orbit data obtained using the DArk Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE) satellite over a period of five years. Unlike underground experiments, which require an FCP energy of the order of hundreds of GeV, our FCP search starts at only a few GeV. An upper limit of $6.2\times 10^{-10}~~\mathrm{cm^{-2}sr^{-1} s^{-1}}$ is obtained for the flux. Our results demonstrate that DAMPE exhibits higher sensitivity than experiments of similar types by three orders of magnitude that more stringently restricts the conditions for the existence of FCP in primary cosmic rays.

In this work, we study the weak decays of $B \to \bar{D}^{(\ast)}D_{s0}^{*}(2317)$ and $B \to \bar{D}^{(\ast)}D_{s1}(2460)$ by invoking triangle diagrams where the $B$ meson first decays weakly into $\bar{D}^{(\ast)}D_{s}^{(\ast)}$ and $J/ψK$($η_{c}K$), and then the $D_{s0}^{\ast}(2317)$ and $D_{s1}(2460)$ are dynamically generated by the final-state interactions of $D_{s}^{(\ast)}η$ and $D^{(\ast)}K$ via exchanges of $η$ and $D^{(\ast)}$ mesons. The obtained absolute branching fractions of Br$[B \to \bar{D}^{(\ast)}D_{s0}^{*}(2317)]$ are in reasonable agreement with the experimental data, while the branching fractions of Br$[B \to \bar{D}^{(\ast)}D_{s1}(2460)]$ are smaller than the experimental central values by almost a factor of two to three. We tentatively attribute such a discrepancy to either reaction mechanisms missing in the present work or the likely existence of a relatively larger $c\bar{s}$ component in the $D_{s1}(2460)$ wave function.

The three pentaquark states, $P_c(4312)$, $P_c(4440)$ and $P_c(4457)$, discovered by the LHCb Collaboration in 2019, can be arranged into a complete heavy quark spin symmetry multiplet of hadronic molecules of $\bar{D}^{(\ast)}Σ_{c}^{(\ast)}$. In the heavy quark mass limit, the $Σ_{c}^{(\ast)}$ baryons can be related to the doubly charmed tetraquark states of isospin 1, i.e., $T_{\bar{c}\bar{c}}^{(\ast)}$( $T_{\bar{c}\bar{c}}^{0}$, $T_{\bar{c}\bar{c}}^{1}$, $T_{\bar{c}\bar{c}}^{2}$), via heavy antiquark diquark symmetry, which dictates that the $\bar{D}^{(\ast)}Σ_{c}^{(\ast)}$ interactions are the same as the $\bar{D}^{(\ast)}T_{\bar{c}\bar{c}}^{(\ast)}$ interactions up to { heavy antiquark diquark symmetry} breakings. In this work, we employ the contact-range effective field theory to systematically study the $\bar{D}^{(\ast)}T_{\bar{c}\bar{c}}^{(\ast)}$ systems, and we show the existence of a complete heavy quark spin symmetry multiplet of hadronic molecules composed of a doubly charmed tetraquark state and a charmed meson. These are a new kind of hadronic molecules and, if discovered, can lead to a better understanding of the many exotic hadrons discovered so far. In addition, we summarise the triply charmed hexaquark states formed by different combinations of hadrons. In particular, we show that $\barΩ_{ccc}{p}$ system can bind by the Coulomb force, which is analogous to a hydrogenlike atom.

Motivated by the recent discovery of a charmonium $X(3960)$ in $B$ decays by the LHCb Collaboration, the likely existence of two bound/virtual states (denoted by $ X_{s\bar{s}}$ and $ X_{q\bar{q}}$) below the $D_{s}^{+}D_{s}^{-}$ and $\bar{D}D$ mass thresholds has been re-examined recently. In this work, we employ the effective Lagrangian approach to calculate their production rates in $B$ decays utilizing triangle diagrams. Our results show that the production yields of $B^{+}\to X_{s\bar{s}} K^{+}$ and $B^{+}\to X_{q\bar{q}} K^{+}$ are of the order of $10^{-4}$, in agreement with the relevant experimental data, which indicates that, if the $D_{s}^{+}D_{s}^{-}$ and $\bar{D}D$ bound states indeed exist, they can be detected in $B$ decays. Moreover, we calculate the production rate of $B^{+}\to X(3960) K^{+}$ assuming that $X(3960)$ is a resonant state of $D_{s}^{+}D_{s}^{-}$ and find that it is also of the order of $10^{-4}$ but a bit smaller than that as a $D_s^+D_s^-$ bound state.

In contrast to the $e \leftrightarrow μ$ CLFV transition for which very stringent limits exist, there is still a relatively large discovery space for the $e \to τ$ CLFV transition, potentially to be explored by the EIC. With the latest detector design of ECCE (EIC Comprehensive Chromodynamics Experiment) and projected integral luminosity of the EIC, we find the $τ$-leptons created in the DIS process $ep\to τX$ are expected to be identified with high efficiency. A first ECCE simulation study, restricted to the 3-prong $τ$-decay mode and with limited statistics for the Standard Model backgrounds, estimates that the EIC will be able to improve the current exclusion limit on $e\to τ$ CLFV by an order of magnitude.

We propose the boost asymmetry of the diboson productions in pp collisions as a new experimental observable, which can provide unique information on the proton structure. The boost asymmetry rises as the difference in the kinematics of the two bosons, that are coupled to the two different quark and antiquark initial states, respectively, and thus reflects different features of the quark and antiquark parton densities. By comparing the kinematics of the two bosons, such as the boson energy or rapidity, the diboson events with antiquark having higher energy than quark can be distinguished from those with quark having higher energy than antiquark. This would provide unique information in some special parton momentum fraction regions, which cannot be directly proved by current W and Z measurements at the Large Hadron Collider or other deep inelastic scattering experients.

We present the detection potential for the diffuse supernova neutrino background (DSNB) at the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO), using the inverse-beta-decay (IBD) detection channel on free protons. We employ the latest information on the DSNB flux predictions, and investigate in detail the background and its reduction for the DSNB search at JUNO. The atmospheric neutrino induced neutral current (NC) background turns out to be the most critical background, whose uncertainty is carefully evaluated from both the spread of model predictions and an envisaged \textit{in situ} measurement. We also make a careful study on the background suppression with the pulse shape discrimination (PSD) and triple coincidence (TC) cuts. With latest DSNB signal predictions, more realistic background evaluation and PSD efficiency optimization, and additional TC cut, JUNO can reach the significance of 3$σ$ for 3 years of data taking, and achieve better than 5$σ$ after 10 years for a reference DSNB model. In the pessimistic scenario of non-observation, JUNO would strongly improve the limits and exclude a significant region of the model parameter space.

We revisit the $D_s^-D^{*0}$/$D_s^{*-}D^0$ interaction and the $Z_{cs}(3985)$ state in chiral effective field theory(EFT) up to the next-to-leading order. We examine the relative importance of the leading-order contact, one-eta exchange, next-to-leading-order contact, and two-kaon-exchange contributions. We show that the leading-order and next-to-leading-order contact contributions play the most important role such that the $Z_{cs}(3985)$ state qualifies as a $D_s^-D^{*0}$/$D_s^{*-}D^0$ resonance. On the other hand, the weak one-eta-exchange and weakly energy-dependent two-kaon-exchange contributions are less important in dynamically generating the $Z_{cs}(3985)$ state, indicating that chiral EFT is less predictive in the present situation. Furthermore, we apply the Bayesian method to estimate chiral truncation uncertainties and find that they are of similar magnitude as their statistical counterparts. Our study shows that if $Z_c(3900)$ exists, then SU(3)-flavor symmetry also predicts $Z_{cs}(3985)$ with a certain robustness, i.e., both can be accommodated in the chiral EFT with dominant contact contributions.

Together with their four $\bar{D}^{(*)}Σ_{c}^{\ast}$ partners dictated by heavy quark spin symmetry they present a complete multiplet of hadronic molecules of $\bar{D}^{(\ast)}Σ_{c}^{(\ast)}$. It is widely recognized that to understand their nature, other discovery channels play an important role. In this work, we investigate two three-body decay modes of the $\bar{D}^{(\ast)}Σ_{c}^{(\ast)}$ molecules. The tree-level modes proceed via off-shell $Σ_{c}^{(\ast)}$ baryons, $\bar{D}^{(\ast)}Σ_{c}^{(\ast)} \to \bar{D}^{(\ast)}\left(Σ_{c}^{(\ast)}\to Λ_{c}π\right)\to\bar{D}^{(\ast)}Λ_{c}π$, while the triangle-loop modes proceed through $\bar{D}^{\ast}Σ_{c}^{(\ast)}\to J/ψNπ$, $η_{c}Nπ$ via $\bar{D}Σ_{c}^{(\ast)}$ rescattering to $J/ψN$ and $η_{c}N$. Our results indicate that the decay widths of the $P_{c}(4457)$ and $\bar{D}^{(\ast)}Σ_{c}^{\ast}$ states into $\bar{D}^{(\ast)}Λ_{c}π$ are several MeV, as a result can be observed in the upcoming Run 3 and Run 4 of LHC. The partial decay widths into $\bar{D}^{(\ast)}Λ_{c}π$ of the $P_{c}(4312)$ and $P_{c}(4440)$ states range from tens to hundreds of keV. In addition, the partial decay widths of $\bar{D}^{\ast}Σ_{c}$ molecules into $J/ψN π$ and $η_c N π$ are several keV and tens of keV, respectively, and the partial decay widths of $\bar{D}^{\ast}Σ_{c}^{\ast}$ molecules into $J/ψN π$ vary from several keV to tens of keV. These three-body decay modes of the pentaquark states are of great value to further observations of the pentaquark states and to a better understanding of their nature.

We present a study of the measurement of the effective weak mixing angle parameter ($\sin^2θ^{\ell}_\text{eff}$) at the Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC). As a fundamental physics parameter, $\sin^2θ^{\ell}_\text{eff}$ plays a key role not only in the global test of the standard model electroweak sector, but also in constraining the potential beyond standard model new physics at high energy frontier. CEPC proposes a two year running period around the Z boson mass pole at high instataneous luminosity, providing a large data sample with $4\times 10^{12}$ $Z$ candidates generated in total. It allows a high precision measurement of $\sin^2θ^{\ell}_\text{eff}$ both in the lepton and quark final states, of which the uncertainty can be one order of magnitude lower than any previous measurement at the LEP, SLC, Tevatron and LHC. It will not only improve the overall precision of the $\sin^2θ^\ell_\text{eff}$ experimental determination to be comparable to the preicision of the theoretical calculation with two-loop radiative corrections, but also provide direct comparisons between different final states. In this paper, we also study the measurement of $\sin^2θ^{\ell}_\text{eff}$ at high mass region. With one month data taken, the precision of $\sin^2θ^{\ell}_\text{eff}$ measured at 130 GeV from $b$ quark final state is 0.00010, which will be an important experimental observation on the energy-running effect of $\sin^2θ^{\ell}_\text{eff}$.
