Fragmentation functions (FFs) are essential non-perturbative QCD inputs for predicting hadron production cross sections in high energy scatterings. In this study, we present a joint determination of FFs for light charged hadrons through a global analysis at next-to-leading order (NLO) in QCD. Our analysis incorporates a wide range of precision measurements from the LHC, as well as data from electron-positron collisions and semi-inclusive deep inelastic scatterings. By including measurements of jet fragmentation at the LHC in our global analysis, we are able to impose strong constraints on the gluon FFs. A careful selection of hadron kinematics is applied to ensure the validity of factorization and perturbative calculations of QCD. In addition, we introduce several methodological advances in fitting, resulting in a flexible parametrization form and the inclusion of theoretical uncertainties from perturbative calculations. Our best-fit predictions show very good agreement with the global data, with $χ^2/N_{pt}\sim 0.90$. We also generate a large number of Hessian error sets to estimate uncertainties and correlations of the extracted FFs. FFs to charged pions (kaons and protons) are well constrained for momentum fractions down to 0.01 (0.1). Total momentum of partons carried by light charged hadrons are determined precisely. Their values for $u$, $d$ quarks and gluon saturate at about 50\% for a lower cut of the momentum fraction of 0.01. Pulls from individual datasets and impact of various choices of the analysis are also studied in details. Additionally, we present an update of the FMNLO program used for calculating hadron production cross sections. Our FFs, including the error sets (denoted as NPC23), are publicly available in the form of LHAPDF6 grids.

Realizing the potential of such detectors requires new readout technologies to achieve the lowest possible thresholds for deposited energy. Here we perform a prototype search for dark matter--electron interactions with kinetic inductance detectors (KIDs), a class of superconducting detector originally designed for infrared astronomy applications. We demonstrate that existing KIDs can achieve effective thresholds as low as 0.2 eV, and we use existing data to set new dark matter constraints. The relative maturity of the technology underlying KIDs means that this platform can be scaled significantly with existing tools, enabling powerful new searches in the coming years.

We perform a simultaneous global analysis of hadron fragmentation functions (FFs) to various charged hadrons at next-to-leading order in QCD. The world data set includes results from electron-positron single-inclusive annihilation, semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering, as well as proton-proton collisions including jet fragmentation measurements which lead to strong constraints on the gluon fragmentations. By carefully selecting hadron kinematics to ensure the validity of QCD factorization and the convergence of perturbative calculations, we achieve a satisfying best fit with $χ^2/$d.o.f.$=0.90$, in the simultaneous extraction of FFs for light charged hadrons ($π^{\pm}$, $K^{\pm}$ and $p/\bar{p}$). The total momentum of $u$, $d$ quarks and gluon carried by light charged hadrons have been determined precisely. That urges future precision measurements on fragmentation to neutral hadrons, which are crucial for the test of fundamental sum rules in QCD fragmentation.

We present improved predictions of a class of event-shape distributions called angularity for a contribution from an effective operator $H\to gg$ in Higgs hadronic decay that suffers from large perturbative uncertainties. In the frame of Soft-Collinear Effective Theory, logarithmic terms of the distribution are resummed at NNLL$^{'}$ accuracy, for which 2-loop constant of gluon-jet function for angularity is independently determined by a fit to fixed-order distribution at NLO corresponding to ${\mathcal{O}}(α_s^2)$ relative to the born rate. Our determination shows reasonable agreement with value in a thesis recently released. In the fit, we use an asymptotic form with a fractional power conjectured from recoil corrections at one-loop order and it improves the accuracy of determination in positive values of angularity parameter $a$. The resummed distribution is matched to the NLO fixed-order results to make our predictions valid at all angularity values. We also discuss the first moment and subtracted moment of angularity as a function of $a$ that allow to extract information on leading and subleading nonperturbative corrections associated with gluons.

The new fields includes vector-like leptons ($E_1,~ E_2,~ N$), $U(1)_{L_μ-L_τ}$ breaking scalar $S$ and gauge boson $Z'$, as well as the dark matter candidate $X_I$ and its heavy partner $X_R$. A joint explanation of the dark matter relic density and muon $g-2$ anomaly excludes the region where both $min(m_{E_1},m_{E_2},m_N,m_{X_R})$ and $min(m_{Z'},m_S)$ are much larger than $m_{X_I}$. In the parameter space accommodating the DM relic density and muon $g-2$ anomaly, the model can achieve a first order $U(1)_{L_μ-L_τ}$ breaking phase transition, whose strength is sensitive to the parameters of Higgs potential. The corresponding gravitational wave spectra can reach the sensitivity of U-DECIGO. In addition, the direct searches at the LHC impose stringent bound on the mass spectra of the vector-like leptons and dark matter.

The projected energy correlator measures the energy deposited in multiple detectors as a function of the largest angular distance $x_L = (1 - \cosχ_L)/2$ between detectors. The collinear limit $x_L\to 0$ of the projected energy correlator is particularly interesting for understanding the jet-substructures, while the large logarithms of $x_L$ could potentially spoil the perturbation theory and must be resummed. As a necessary ingredient for its resummation at next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic (NNLL) accuracy, we calculate the two-loop jet functions for the projected three-point energy correlator (E3C), using direct integration method and the parameter space Integration-by-Part (IBP) method. We then present the NNLL resummation for $e^+e^-$ annihilation and an approximate NNLL resummation for $pp\rightarrow jj$ process, where the two-loop hard constant is estimated in the latter case. The convergence is improved and the hadronization effect in the collinear limit is suppressed when considering the ratio of E3C distribution to two-point energy-energy correlator (EEC). Our results show potential in precision determination of strong coupling constant using energy correlators from both $e^+e^-$ data and $pp$ data.

It is based on a hybrid scheme of phase-space slicing method and local subtraction method, and accurate to next-to-leading order (NLO) in QCD. The new framework has been interfaced to MG5 aMC@NLO and made publicly available in this work. We demonstrate its unique ability by giving theoretical predictions of various fragmentation measurements at the LHC, followed by comparison with the data. With the help of interpolation techniques, FMNLO allows for fast calculation of fragmentation processes for a large number of different FFs, which makes it a promising tool for future fits of FFs. As an example, we perform a NLO fit of parton fragmentation functions to unidentified charged hadrons using measurements at the LHC. We find the ATLAS data from inclusive dijet production show a strong constraining power. Notable disparities are found between our gluon FF and that of BKK, DSS and NNFF, indicating the necessities of additional constraints and data for gluon fragmentation function.

We implement the Bayesian inference to retrieve energy spectra of all neutrinos from a galactic core-collapse supernova (CCSN). To achieve high statistics and full sensitivity to all flavours of neutrinos, we adopt a combination of several reaction channels from different large-scale neutrino observatories, namely inverse beta decay on proton and elastic scattering on electron from Hyper-Kamiokande (Hyper-K), charged current absorption on Argon from Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) and coherent elastic scattering on Lead from RES-NOVA. Assuming no neutrino oscillation or specific oscillation models, we obtain mock data for each channel through Poisson processes with the predictions, for a typical source distance of 10 kpc in our Galaxy, and then evaluate the probability distributions for all spectral parameters of theoretical neutrino spectrum model with Bayes' theorem. Although the results for either the electron-neutrinos or electron-antineutrinos reserve relatively large uncertainties (according to the neutrino mass hierarchy), a precision of a few percent (i.e., $\pm 1 \% \sim \pm 4 \%$ at a credible interval of $2 σ$) is achieved for primary spectral parameters (e.g., mean energy and total emitted energy) of other neutrino species. Moreover, the correlation coefficients between different parameters are computed as well and interesting patterns are found. Especially, the mixing-induced correlations are sensitive to the neutrino mass hierarchy, which potentially makes it a brand new probe to determine the neutrino mass hierarchy in the detection of galactic supernova neutrinos. Finally, we discuss the origin of such correlation patterns and perspectives for further improvement on our results.

The charged Higgs boson plays an essential role in distinguishing between a wide variety of standard model extensions with multiple Higgs doublets, and has been searched for in various collider experiments. This paper expands our previous work to a broader Higgs mass space with discussions on subsequent issues. We study the prospect of a light charged Higgs boson, produced by top quark pairs at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), and decaying into a $W$ boson (can be off shell) and a pair of bottom quarks via on-shell production of an intermediate neutral Higgs boson. We reinterpret the cross sections of $WWbb\bar{b}\bar{b}$ final states measured by the ATLAS collaboration at LHC 13 TeV in the presence of the decay chain: $t \rightarrow H^+ b, H^+ \rightarrow W^+ H_i, H_i \rightarrow b \bar{b}$, and H.c., where $H_i$ is a neutral Higgs boson variably lighter than the charged Higgs boson. We find improved agreements with the data and obtain limits on the total branching ratio of the aforementioned decay chain. The limits impose the strongest constraints on the parameter space of type-I two-Higgs-doublet model for most Higgs masses sampled when $H_i$ is the $CP$-odd Higgs boson $A$. We also calculate potential constraints with pseudodata in high-luminosity runs of the LHC.

We use the method of large top quark mass expansion to tackle the most challenging two-loop virtual amplitude, and apply the Padé approximation to extend the region of convergence of the expansion. We find that the NLO EW corrections is $0.66\%$ for the total cross section. For the invariant mass distribution and Higgs boson transverse momentum distribution, the NLO corrections are almost flat with their values similar in size. In this work we jointly fit the Wilson coefficients of SMEFT operators as well as the PDFs in an extension of the CT18 global analysis framework, obtaining self-consistent constraints to possible BSM physics effects. Global fits are boosted with machine-learning techniques in the form of neural networks to ensure efficient scans of the full PDF+SMEFT parameter space. We focus on several operators relevant for top-quark pair and jet production at hadron colliders and obtain constraints on the Wilson coefficients with Lagrange Multiplier scans. We find mild correlations between the extracted Wilson coefficients, PDFs, and other QCD parameters, and see indications that these correlations may become more prominent in future analyses based on data of higher precision. The form factors are calculated by the three-body light-front quark model with the support of numerical wave functions of $Λ_b$ and $Λ(1520)$ from solving the semirelativistic potential model associated with the Gaussian expansion method. By fitting the mass spectrum of the observed single bottom and charmed baryons, the parameters of the potential model are fixed, so this strategy can avoid the uncertainties arising from the choice of a simple harmonic oscillator wave function of the baryons. With more data accumulated in the LHCb experiment, our result can help for exploring the $Λ_b\toΛ(1520)\ell^+\ell^-$ decay and deepen our understanding on the $b\to s\ell^+\ell^-$ processes.

We study the dependence of the transverse mass distribution of the charged lepton and the missing energies on the parton distributions (PDFs) adapted to the $W$ boson mass measurements at the CDF and ATLAS experiments. We compare the shape variations of the distribution induced by different PDFs and find that spread of predictions from different PDF sets can be much larger than the PDF uncertainty predicted by a specific PDF set. We suggest analyzing the experimental data using up-to-date PDFs for a better understanding of the PDF uncertainties in the $W$ boson mass measurements. We further carry out a series of Lagrange multiplier scans to identify the constraints on the transverse mass distribution imposed by individual data sets in the CT18 global analysis. In the case of CDF measurement, the distribution is mostly sensitive to the $d$-quark PDFs at the intermediate $x$ region that is largely constrained by the DIS and Drell-Yan data on the deuteron target, as well as the Tevatron lepton charge asymmetry data.

We present numerical calculations of the partial width of the charged Higgs boson decay into a top quark, $H^- \rightarrow \bar{t} + b + X$, and the partial width of the top quark decay into a light charged Higgs boson $t \rightarrow H^+ + b + X$ at next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) in QCD, based on a factorization formula of the jet mass. The NNLO corrections significantly reduce the renormalization scale dependence of the partial decay width in both cases. We show relative size of the NNLO corrections for different charged Higgs boson masses and for different renormalization scales. The NNLO corrections are about 16% (1%) of the leading order widths for the charged Higgs boson mass of 200GeV (2000GeV), while it is quite small for the top quark decay. Our analyses are independent of the detailed structure of the Yukawa couplings, and can be applied to various new physics models, as demonstrated by the decay branching ratio in different types of the two-Higgs-doublet models.

Modern analysis on parton distribution functions (PDFs) requires calculations of the log-likelihood functions from thousands of experimental data points, and scans of multi-dimensional parameter space with tens of degrees of freedom. In conventional analysis the Hessian approximation has been widely used for the estimation of the PDF uncertainties. The Lagrange Multiplier (LM) scan while being a more faithful method is less used due to computational limitations, and is the main focus of this study. We propose to use Neural Networks (NNs) and machine learning techniques to model the profile of the log-likelihood functions or cross sections for multi-dimensional parameter space in order to overcome those limitations which work beyond the quadratic approximations and meanwhile ensures efficient scans of the full parameter space. We demonstrate the efficiency of the new approach in the framework of the CT18 global analysis of PDFs by constructing NNs for various target functions, and performing LM scans on PDFs and cross sections at hadron colliders. We further study the impact of the NOMAD dimuon data on constraining PDFs with the new approach, and find enhanced strange-quark distributions and reduced PDF uncertainties. Moreover, we show how the approach can be used to constrain new physics beyond the Standard Model (BSM) by a joint fit of both PDFs and Wilson coefficients of operators in the SM effective field theory.

Dimuon events induced by charm-quark productions from neutrino deep inelastic scattering (DIS) processes have been studied in traditional DIS experiments for decades. The recent progress in neutrino telescopes makes it possible to search such dimuon events at energies far beyond laboratory scale. In this paper, we construct a simulation framework to calculate yields and distributions of dimuon signals in an IceCube-like km3 scale neutrino telescope. Due to experimental limitation in the resolution of double-track lateral distance, only dimuon produced outside the detector volume are considered. Detailed information about simulation results for ten years exposure is demonstrated. Both an earlier work [1] and our work study a similar situation, we therefore use that paper as a baseline to conduct comparisons. We then estimate the impacts of different calculation methods of muon energy losses, and find that, the average energy loss formula used in that work results in more events by contrast with Monte Carlo simulation. Finally, we study the experimental potential of dimuon searches under the hypothesis of single-muon background-only. Our results based on a simplified double-track reconstruction indicate a moderate sensitivity especially with the ORCA configuration. Further developments on both the reconstruction algorithm and possible detector designs are thus required, and are under investigation.

We study helicity polarization through the (3+1) dimensional relativistic viscous hydrodynamic models at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=200$GeV Au+Au collisions. Similar to the local spin polarization, we consider the helicity polarization beyond global equilibrium and investigate the contributions induced by thermal vorticity, shear viscous tensor, and the fluid acceleration. We find that the local helicity polarization induced by thermal vorticity dominates over other contributions. It also implies that in the low-energy collisions, the the fluid vorticity as part of thermal vorticity may play the crucial role to the total helicity polarization. Such a finding could be useful for probing the local strength of vorticity in rotational quark gluon plasmas by measuring helicity polarization. Our simulation confirms the strict space reversal symmetry, whereas we also compare our numerical results with approximated relations derived from ideal Bjorken flow. Our studies also provide a baseline for the future investigation on local parity violation through the correlations of helicity polarization.

Employing further the available leading-power results for the semileptonic $B \to D$ form factors at the next-to-leading-logarithmic level and combining our improved LCSR predictions with the recent lattice determinations, we then carry out a comprehensive phenomenological analysis on the semi-leptonic $B\to D \ell ν_\ell$ decay. We derive the chiral kinetic equation in 8 dimensional phase space in non-Abelian $SU(N)$ gauge field within the Wigner function formalism. By using the "covariant gradient expansion", we disentangle the Wigner equations in four-vector space up to the first order and find that only the time-like component of the chiral Wigner function is independent while other components can be explicit derivative. After further decomposing the Wigner function or equations in color space, we present the non-Abelian covariant chiral kinetic equation for the color singlet and multiplet phase-space distribution functions. These phase-space distribution functions have non-trivial Lorentz transformation rules when we define them in different reference frames. The chiral anomaly from non-Abelian gauge field arises naturally from the Berry monopole in Euclidian momentum space in the vacuum or Dirac sea contribution. The anomalous currents as non-Abelian counterparts of chiral magnetic effect and chiral vortical effect have also been derived from the non-Abelian chiral kinetic equation.

Incompleteness in current knowledge of neutrino interactions with nuclear matter imposes a primary limitation in searches for leptonic CP violation carried out at long-baseline neutrino experiments. In this paper, we present a new computation that elevates the theoretical accuracy to next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) in QCD for charged-current deeply-inelastic scattering (DIS) processes relevant for ongoing and future neutrino programs. Mass-dependent quark contributions are consistently included across a wide range of momentum transfers in the SACOT-$χ$ general-mass scheme. When appropriate, we further include N$^3$LO corrections in the zero-mass scheme. We show theoretical predictions for several experiments with neutrinos over a wide range of energies and at the upcoming Electron-Ion Collider. Our prediction reduces perturbative uncertainties to $\sim\!1\%$, sufficient for the high-precision objectives of future charged-current DIS measurements, and provides important theoretical inputs to experimental studies of leptonic mixing and CP violations.

We focus on various differential distributions in a fiducial region. The NLO corrections can reduce the fiducial cross section by 14%. We find the NLO predictions exhibit strong stability under scale variations for most observables considered while the scale variations at the leading-order (LO) dominated in the theoretical uncertainties. We propose a method of determining the top-quark mass using the measurement of the average transverse momentum of the charged lepton. The scale variations at the NLO induce a theoretical uncertainty of about 1.3 GeV of the extracted top-quark mass. The statistical error of the extracted top-quark mass amounts to 1.1 GeV. We also investigate the impact of the QCD corrections and the scale variations in searches of the anomalous Wtb couplings.

We investigate the pure annihilation type radiative $B$ meson decays $B^0 \to φγ$ and $B_s \to ρ^0(ω)γ$ in the soft-collinear effective theory. We consider three types of contributions to the decay amplitudes, including the direct annihilation topology, the contribution from the electro-magnetic penguin operator and the contribution of the neutral vector meson mixings. The numerical analysis shows that the decay amplitudes are dominated by the $ω-φ$ mixing effect in the $B^0 \to φγ$ and $B_s \to ωγ$ modes. The corresponding decay branching ratios are enhanced about three orders of magnitudes relative to the pure annihilation type contribution in these two decay channels. The decay rate of $B_s \to ρ^0γ$ is much smaller than that of $B_s \to ωγ$ because of the smaller $ρ^0-φ$ mixing. The predicted branching ratios $B(B^{0}\rightarrowφγ)=(3.99^{+1.67}_{-1.46} )\times10^{-9},\,B(B_s\rightarrowωγ)=(2.01^{+0.81}_{-0.71} )\times10^{-7}$ are to be tested by the Belle-II and LHC-b experiments.

We give a brief overview of the kinetic theory for spin-1/2 fermions in Wigner function formulism. The chiral and spin kinetic equations can be derived from equations for Wigner functions. A general Wigner function has 16 components which satisfy 32 coupled equations. For massless fermions, the number of independent equations can be significantly reduced due to the decoupling of left-handed and right-handed particles. It can be proved that out of many components of Wigner functions and their coupled equations, only one kinetic equation for the distribution function is independent. This is called the disentanglement theorem for Wigner functions of chiral fermions. For massive fermions, it turns out that one particle distribution function and three spin distribution functions are independent and satisfy four kinetic equations. Various chiral and spin effects such as chiral magnetic and votical effects, the chiral seperation effect, spin polarization effects can be consistently described in the formalism.

We derive constraints on neutral-current NSIs with quarks imposed by different data sets in a framework of either effective operators or simplified $Z'$ models. We use theoretical predictions of productions induced by NSIs at next-to-leading order in QCD matched with parton showering which stabilize the theory predictions and result in more robust constraints. In a simplified $Z'$ model we obtain a 95% CLs upper limit on the conventional NSI strength $ε$ of 0.042 and 0.0028 for a $Z'$ mass of 0.2 and 2 TeV respectively. We also discuss possible improvements from future runs of LHC with higher luminosities.

In non-central high energy heavy ion collisions the colliding system posses a huge orbital angular momentum in the direction opposite to the normal of the reaction plane. Due to the spin-orbit coupling in strong interaction, such huge orbital angular momentum leads to the polarization of quarks and anti-quarks in the same direction. This effect, known as the global polarization effect, has been recently observed by STAR Collaboration at RHIC that confirms the theoretical prediction made more than ten years ago. The discovery has attracted much attention on the study of spin effects in heavy ion collision. It opens a new window to study properties of QGP and a new direction in high energy heavy ion physics -- Spin Physics in Heavy Ion Collisions. In this chapter, we review the original ideas and calculations that lead to the predictions. We emphasize the role played by spin-orbit coupling in high energy spin physics and discuss the new opportunities and challenges in this connection.

Measuring the fermion Yukawa coupling constants is important for understanding the origin of the fermion masses and its relationship to the spontaneously electroweak symmetry breaking. On the other hand, some new physics models will change the Lorentz structure of the Yukawa interactions between the standard model (SM) fermions and the SM-like Higgs boson even in their decoupling limit. Thus the precisely measurement of the fermion Yukawa interactions is a powerful tool of new physics searching in the decoupling limit. In this work, we show the possibility of investigating the Lorentz structure of the bottom-quark Yukawa interaction with the 125GeV SM-like Higgs boson at future $e^+e^-$ colliders.

We study the determination of the top-quark mass using leptonic observables in t-channel single top-quark production at the LHC. We demonstrate sensitivity of transverse momentum of the charged lepton on the input top-quark mass. We present predictions at next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) in QCD with narrow width approximation and structure function approach. Further corrections due to parton shower and hadronization, non-resonant and non-factorized contributions are discussed. To reduce impact of SM backgrounds we propose to use the charge weighted distribution for the measurement, i.e., differences between distributions of charged lepton with positive and negative charges. By modeling both signal and background processes, we found the projections for (HL-)LHC to be promising, with a total theoretical uncertainty on the extracted top-quark mass of about 1 $\sim$ 2 GeV.

The Large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC) is designed to move the field of deep inelastic scattering (DIS) to the energy and intensity frontier of particle physics. Exploiting energy recovery technology, it collides a novel, intense electron beam with a proton or ion beam from the High Luminosity--Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC). The accelerator and interaction region are designed for concurrent electron-proton and proton-proton operation. This report represents an update of the Conceptual Design Report (CDR) of the LHeC, published in 2012. It comprises new results on parton structure of the proton and heavier nuclei, QCD dynamics, electroweak and top-quark physics. It is shown how the LHeC will open a new chapter of nuclear particle physics in extending the accessible kinematic range in lepton-nucleus scattering by several orders of magnitude. Due to enhanced luminosity, large energy and the cleanliness of the hadronic final states, the LHeC has a strong Higgs physics programme and its own discovery potential for new physics. Building on the 2012 CDR, the report represents a detailed updated design of the energy recovery electron linac (ERL) including new lattice, magnet, superconducting radio frequency technology and further components. Challenges of energy recovery are described and the lower energy, high current, 3-turn ERL facility, PERLE at Orsay, is presented which uses the LHeC characteristics serving as a development facility for the design and operation of the LHeC. An updated detector design is presented corresponding to the acceptance, resolution and calibration goals which arise from the Higgs and parton density function physics programmes. The paper also presents novel results on the Future Circular Collider in electron-hadron mode, FCC-eh, which utilises the same ERL technology to further extend the reach of DIS to even higher centre-of-mass energies.

We compare predictions at next-to-next-to-leading order in a 5-flavor scheme to those of next-to-leading order in a 4-flavor scheme, finding the two schemes agree within a few percent in general for the shape of kinematic distributions of the top quark. The predictions in the 5-flavor scheme show strong stability for both normalization and distributions, and are superior to those of the 4-flavor scheme at comparable orders. We present comparisons of the predictions with LHC data. Our findings provide clear theoretical guidance for precision studies of single top-quark physics at the LHC.

We solve the Wigner equation for massless spin-1/2 charged fermions near global equilibrium. The Wigner function can be obtained order by order in the power expansion of the vorticity and electromagnetic field. The Wigner function has been derived up to the second order from which the non-dissipative charge currents and the stress tensor can be obtained. The charge and energy densities and the pressure have contributions from the vorticity and electromagnetic field at the second order. The vector and axial Hall currents can be induced along the direction orthogonal to the vorticity and electromagnetic field at the second order. We also find that the trace anomaly emerges natually in renormalizing the stress tensor by including the quantum correction from the electromagnetic field.

We present the new parton distribution functions (PDFs) from the CTEQ-TEA collaboration, obtained using a wide variety of high-precision Large Hadron Collider (LHC) data, in addition to the combined HERA I+II deep-inelastic scattering data set, along with the data sets present in the CT14 global QCD analysis. New LHC measurements in single-inclusive jet production with the full rapidity coverage, as well as production of Drell-Yan pairs, top-quark pairs, and high-$p_T$ $Z$ bosons, are included to achieve the greatest sensitivity to the PDFs. The parton distributions are determined at NLO and NNLO, with each of these PDFs accompanied by error sets determined using the Hessian method. Fast PDF survey techniques, based on the Hessian representation and the Lagrange Multiplier method, are used to quantify the preference of each data set to quantities such as $α_s(m_Z)$, and the gluon and strange quark distributions. We designate the main resulting PDF set as CT18. The ATLAS 7 TeV precision $W/Z$ data are not included in CT18, due to their tension with other data sets in the global fit. Alternate PDF sets are generated including the ATLAS precision 7 TeV $W/Z$ data (CT18A), a new scale choice for low-$x$ DIS data (CT18X), or all of the above with a slightly higher choice for the charm mass (CT18Z). Theoretical calculations of standard candle cross sections at the LHC (such as the $gg$ fusion Higgs boson cross section) are presented.

Abstract:
We revisit the chiral anomaly in the quantum kinetic theory in the Wigner function formalism under the background field approximation. Our results show that the chiral anomaly is actually from the Dirac sea or the vacuum contribution in the un-normal-ordered Wigner function. We also demonstrate that this contribution modifies the chiral kinetic equation for antiparticles.
