Study of $χ_{bJ}(2P)\toωΥ(1S)$ at Belle

Abstract: We report a study of the hadronic transitions $χ_{bJ}(2P)\toωΥ(1S)$, with $ω\toπ^{+}π^{-}π^{0}$, using $28.2\times10^6~Υ(3S)$ mesons recorded by the Belle detector. We present the first evidence for the near--threshold transition $χ_{b0}(2P)\toωΥ(1S)$, the analog of the charm sector decay $χ_{c1}(3872)\toωJ/ψ$, with a branching fraction of… ▽ More We report a study of the hadronic transitions $χ_{bJ}(2P)\toωΥ(1S)$, with $ω\toπ^{+}π^{-}π^{0}$, using $28.2\times10^6~Υ(3S)$ mesons recorded by the Belle detector. We present the first evidence for the near--threshold transition $χ_{b0}(2P)\toωΥ(1S)$, the analog of the charm sector decay $χ_{c1}(3872)\toωJ/ψ$, with a branching fraction of $B\big(χ_{b0}(2P)\toωΥ(1S)\big) = \big(0.55\pm0.19\pm0.07\big)\%$. We also obtain branching fractions of $B\big(χ_{b1}(2P)\toωΥ(1S)\big) = \big(2.39{}^{+0.20}_{-0.19}\pm0.24\big)\%$ and $B\big(χ_{b2}(2P)\toωΥ(1S)\big) = \big(0.47{}^{+0.13}_{-0.12}\pm0.06\big)\%$, confirming the measurement of the $ω$ transitions of the $J=1,2~P$--wave states. Search for the decay $B^{0}\toγγ$ using Belle and Belle II data

Abstract: We report the result of a search for the rare decay $B^{0} \to γγ$ using a combined dataset of $753\times10^{6}$ $B\bar{B}$ pairs collected by the Belle experiment and $387\times10^{6}$ $B\bar{B}$ pairs collected by the Belle II experiment from decays of the $\rm Υ(4S)$ resonance produced in $e^{+}e^{-}$ collisions. Abstract: Using the data samples of 102 million $Υ(1S)$ and 158 million $Υ(2S)$ events collected by the Belle detector, we search for a pentaquark state in the $pJ/ψ$ final state from $Υ(1,2S)$ inclusive decays. Here, the charge-conjugate $\bar{p}J/ψ$ is included. We observe clear $pJ/ψ$ production in $Υ(1,2S)$ decays and measure the branching fractions to be… ▽ More Using the data samples of 102 million $Υ(1S)$ and 158 million $Υ(2S)$ events collected by the Belle detector, we search for a pentaquark state in the $pJ/ψ$ final state from $Υ(1,2S)$ inclusive decays. Here, the charge-conjugate $\bar{p}J/ψ$ is included. We observe clear $pJ/ψ$ production in $Υ(1,2S)$ decays and measure the branching fractions to be $\mathcal{B}[Υ(1S) \to pJ/ψ+ anything] = [4.27 \pm 0.16(stat.) \pm 0.20(syst.)] \times 10^{-5}$ and $\mathcal{B}[Υ(2S) \to pJ/ψ+ anything] = [3.59 \pm 0.14(stat.) \pm 0.16(syst.)] \times 10^{-5}$. We also measure the cross section of inclusive $pJ/ψ$ production in $e^+e^-$ annihilation to be $σ(e^+e^- \to pJ/ψ+ anything) = [57.5 \pm 2.1 (stat.) \pm 2.5(syst.)]$~fb at $\sqrt{s} = 10.52~\hbox{GeV}$ using an 89.5~fb$^{-1}$ continuum data sample. There is no significant $P_c(4312)^+$, $P_c(4440)^+$ or $P_c(4457)^+$ signal found in the $pJ/ψ$ final states in $Υ(1,2S)$ inclusive decays. The data sample was collected at and just below the center-of-mass energies of the $Υ(4S)$ and $Υ(5S)$ resonances and has an integrated luminosity of $915~\textrm{fb}^{-1}$, corresponding to $(836\pm 12)\times 10^6$ $e^+e^\toτ^+τ^-$ events. We search for production of the HNL (denoted $N$) in the decay $τ^-\to π^- N$ followed by its decay via $N \to μ^+μ^- ν_τ$. The search focuses on the parameter-space region in which the HNL is long lived, so that the $μ^+μ^-$ originate from a common vertex that is significantly displaced from the collision point of the KEKB beams. Consistent with the expected background yield, one event is observed in the data sample after application of all the event-selection criteria. Abstract: We search for $C\!P$ violation using $T$-odd correlations in five $D_{(s)}^{+}$ and $D_{(s)}^{-}$ four-body decays. Our analysis is based on 980 $\rm fb^{-1}$ of data collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB energy-asymmetric $e^+e^-$ collider. These results are the first such measurements and are all consistent with zero. They include the first measurement for a $D^+_s$ singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay, and the first measurement for a $D$ meson doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decay. We also measure $a^{T\text{-odd}}_{C\!P}$ in different subregions of phase space, where the decays are dominated by different intermediate resonance states such as $D^+\toφρ^+$, $\bar{K}^{*0}K^{*+}$, and $\bar{K}^{*0}ρ^+$; and $D_s^+\to K^{*+}ρ^{0}$, $K^{*0}ρ^{+}$, $φρ^+$, and $\bar{K}^{*0}K^{*+}$. We separate exclusive $B \to π\, \ell\, \bar ν_{\ell}$ decays from other inclusive $B \to X_u \, \ell\, \bar ν_{\ell}$ and backgrounds with a two-dimensional fit, that utilizes the number of charged pions in the $X_u$ system and the four-momentum transfer $q^2$ between the $B$ and $X_u$ system. Combining our measurement with information from lattice QCD and QCD calculations of the inclusive partial rate as well as external experimental information on the shape of the $B \to π\, \ell\, \bar ν_{\ell}$ form factor, we determine $\left|V_{ub}^{\mathrm{excl.}} \right| = (3.78 \pm 0.23 \pm 0.16 \pm 0.14)\times 10^{-3}$ and $\left|V_{ub}^{\mathrm{incl.}} \right| = (3.88 \pm 0.20 \pm 0.31 \pm 0.09)\times 10^{-3}$, respectively, with the uncertainties being the statistical error, systematic errors, and theory errors. The method is based on the reconstruction of the $μ^- \to e^- \barν_eν_μ$ decay-in-flight in the Belle central drift chamber and relies on the correlation between muon spin and its daughter electron momentum. We study the main sources of the background that can imitate the signal decay, such as kaon and pion decays-in-flight and charged particle scattering on the detector material. Highly efficient methods of their suppression are developed and applied to select 165 signal-candidate events. We obtain $ξ^\prime=0.22\pm0.94\pm0.42$ where the first uncertainty is statistical, and the second one is systematic. Statistical uncertainty dominates in this study, being a limiting factor, while systematic uncertainty is well under control. The branching fraction is found to be ${\cal B} (B^+\to X(3872)K^+) \times {\cal{B}}(X(3872) \to D^0\overline{D}{}^{*0}) = (0.97 ^{+0.21}_{-0.18} ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.10 ({\rm syst})) \times 10^{-4}$. The signal from $B^0$ decays is observed for the first time with $5.2σ$ significance, and the ratio of branching fractions between charged and neutral $B$ decays is measured to be ${\cal B}(B^0\to X(3872)K^0)/{\cal B}(B^+ \to X(3872)K^+) = 1.34^{+0.47}_{-0.40} ({\rm stat}) ^{+0.10}_{-0.12} ({\rm syst})$. The peak is also studied using a Flatté lineshape. We determine the lower limit on the $D\overline{D}{}^{*}$ coupling constant $g$ to be $0.075$ at 95% credibility in the parameter region where the ratio of $g$ to the mass difference from the $D^0\overline{D}{}^{*0}$ threshold is equal to $-15.11~{\rm GeV}^{-1}$, as measured by LHCb. △ Less

First measurement of the Q^2 distribution of X(3915) single-tag two-photon production

We also perform a study of the impact of preliminary beyond zero-recoil lattice QCD calculations on the $|V_{cb}|$ determinations. Additionally, we present the lepton flavor universality ratio $R_{eμ} = \mathcal{B}(B \to D^* e \barν_e) / \mathcal{B}(B \to D^* μ\barν_μ) = 0.990 \pm 0.021 \pm 0.023$, the electron and muon forward-backward asymmetry and their difference $ΔA_{FB}=0.022\pm0.026\pm 0.007$, and the electron and muon $D^*$ longitudinal polarization fraction and their difference $ΔF_L^{D^*} = 0.034 \pm 0.024 \pm 0.007$. Abstract: Using the data sample of 980 fb$^{-1}$ collected with the Belle detector operating at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider, we present the results of an investigation of the $Λπ^+$ and $Λπ^-$ invariant mass distributions looking for substructure in the decay $Λ_c^+\rightarrowΛπ^+π^+π^-$. We find a significant signal in each mass dis\ tribution. As these two signals are very close to the $\bar{K}N$ threshold, we also investigate the possibility of a $\bar{K}N$ cusp, and find that \ we cannot discriminate between these two interpretations due to the limited size of the data sample. △ Less

Abstract: We report measurements of the ratios of branching fractions for $B \to \bar{D}^{(*)}π\ell^+ν_\ell$ and $B \to \bar{D}^{(*)}π^+π^-\ell^+ν_\ell$ relative to $B \to \bar{D}^*\ell^+ν_\ell$ decays with $\ell = e, μ$. Combining with the world average $\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\to{}pK_S^0)$, we have the absolute branching fractions: $\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\to{}pK_S^0K_S^0) = {(2.35\pm 0.12\pm 0.07 \pm 0.12 )\times 10^{-4}}$ and $\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\to{}pK_S^0η) = {(4.35\pm 0.10\pm 0.20 \pm 0.22 )\times 10^{-3}}$. The first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively, while the third ones arise from the uncertainty on $\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\to{}pK_S^0)$. The mode $Λ_c^+\to{}pK_S^0K_S^0$ is observed for the first time and has a statistical significance of $>\!10σ$. The branching fraction of $Λ_c^+\to{}pK_S^0η$ has been measured with a threefold improvement in precision over previous results and is found to be consistent with the world average. △ Less

A measurement of the ratio of these branching fractions is also presented, $\mathcal{R}_{K/π}=\mathcal{B}(\bar{B} \to D^{*+}K^-) /\mathcal{B}( \bar{B} \to D^{*+}π^-) = (8.41 \pm 0.24 \pm 0.13)\times 10^{-2}$, where systematic uncertainties due to the $D^{*+}$ meson reconstruction cancel out. Furthermore, we report a new QCD factorization test based on the measured ratios for $\bar{B} \to D^{*+}h^-$ and $\bar{B} \to D^{*+}\ell^-ν$ decays at squared momentum transfer values equivalent to the mass of the $h = π$ or $K$ hadron. The parameters $|a_1(h)|$ are measured to be $|a_1(π)|= 0.884 \pm 0.004 \pm 0.003 \pm 0.016$ and $|a_1(K)|=0.913 \pm 0.019 \pm 0.008 \pm 0.013$, where the last uncertainties account for all external inputs. These values are approximately $15\%$ lower than those expected from theoretical predictions. Subsequently, flavor $SU(3)$ symmetry is tested by measuring the ratios for pions and kaons, $|a_1(K)|^2/ |a_1(π)|^2=1.066 \pm 0.042 \pm 0.018 \pm 0.023$, as well as for different particle species. The ratio is consistent with unity and therefore no evidence for $SU(3)$ symmetry breaking effects is found at the $5\%$ precision level. △ Less

Abstract: We present a search for the decay $X(3872) \to π^+π^-π^0$ in the $(772\pm11)\times10^6$ $Υ(4S)\to B \bar B$ data sample collected at the Belle detector, where the $X(3872)$ is produced in $B^{\pm}\to K^{\pm}X(3872)$ and $B^{0}\to K_{S}^0 X(3872)$ decays. Our results for the ratios of branching fractions are $B(D^{+}\to K^{+}K^{-}π^{+}π^{0})/B(D^{+}\to K^{-}π^{+}π^{+}π^{0}) = (11.32 \pm 0.13 \pm 0.26)\%$, $B(D^{+}\to K^{+}π^{-}π^{+}π^{0})/B(D^{+}\to K^{-}π^{+}π^{+}π^{0}) = (1.68 \pm 0.11\pm 0.03)\%$, and $B(D_s^{+}\to K^{+}π^{-}π^{+}π^{0})/B(D_s^{+}\to K^{+}K^{-}π^{+}π^{0}) = (17.13 \pm 0.62 \pm 0.51)\%$, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The second value corresponds to $(5.83\pm 0.42)\times\tan^4θ_C$, where $θ_C$ is the Cabibbo angle; this value is larger than other measured ratios of branching fractions for a doubly Cabibbo-suppressed charm decay to a Cabibbo-favored decay. Multiplying these results by world average values for $B(D^{+}\to K^{-}π^{+}π^{+}π^{0})$ and $B(D_s^{+}\to K^{+}K^{-}π^{+}π^{0})$ yields $B(D^{+}\to K^{+}K^{-}π^{+}π^{0})= (7.08\pm 0.08\pm 0.16\pm 0.20)\times10^{-3}$, $B(D^{+}\to K^{+}π^{-}π^{+}π^{0})= (1.05\pm 0.07\pm 0.02\pm 0.03)\times10^{-3}$, and $B(D_s^{+}\to K^{+}π^{-}π^{+}π^{0}) = (9.44\pm 0.34\pm 0.28\pm 0.32)\times10^{-3}$, where the third uncertainty is due to the branching fraction of the normalization mode. The measurement in the thrust axis analysis, with mostly outgoing quark pairs determining the reference axis, is sensitive to the region of additional soft gluon emissions. No significant anisotropic collective behavior is observed with either coordinate analyses. Near-side jet correlations appear to be absent in the thrust axis analysis. The measurements are compared to predictions from various event generators and are expected to provide new constraints to the phenomenological models in the low-energy regime. △ Less

First Measurement of the $Λ_c^+ \to p η'$ decay

Our results represent an approximately twofold improvement on the current world best upper limits for the $Υ(1S)\to γA^0(\to τ^+τ^-)$ production. For $A^0\to μ^+μ^-$, the upper limits on the product branching fractions for $Υ(1S)\to γA^0$ and $A^0\to μ^+μ^-$ are at the same level as the world average limits, and vary from $3.1\times10^{-7}$ to $1.6\times10^{-5}$. The upper limits at 90\% C.L. on the Yukawa coupling $f_{Υ(1S)}$ and mixing angle ${\rm sin}θ_{A^0}$ are also given. △ Less

The branching fraction ratios ${\cal B}(Ω_{c}^{0} \to Ω^{-} e^{+} ν_{e})/{\cal B}(Ω_{c}^{0} \to Ω^{-} π^+)$ and ${\cal B}(Ω_{c}^{0} \to Ω^{-} μ^{+} ν_μ)/{\cal B}(Ω_{c}^{0} \to Ω^{-} π^+)$ are measured to be $1.98 \pm0.13~({\rm stat.}) \pm 0.08~({\rm syst.})$ and $ 1.94 \pm 0.18~({\rm stat.}) \pm 0.10~({\rm syst.})$, respectively. The ratio of ${\cal B}(Ω_{c}^{0} \to Ω^{-} e^{+} ν_{e})/{\cal B}(Ω_{c}^{0} \to Ω^{-} μ^{+} ν_μ)$ is measured to be $1.02 \pm 0.10~({\rm stat.}) \pm 0.02~({\rm syst.})$, which is consistent with the expectation of lepton flavor universality. △ Less

The branching fractions obtained and direct $CP$ asymmetries are… ▽ More We measure the branching fractions and $CP$ asymmetries for the decays $B^{0}\to \bar{D}^{0}π^{0}$ and $B^{+}\to \bar{D}^{0}π^{+}$, using a data sample of $772\times 10^{6}$ $B\bar{B}$ pairs collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider. The branching fractions obtained and direct $CP$ asymmetries are $\mathcal{B}(B^{0}\to \bar{D}^{0}π^{0}) = [2.70 \pm 0.06~ \text{(stat.)} \pm 0.10~ \text{(syst.)}] \times 10^{-4}$, $\mathcal{B}(B^{+}\to \bar{D}^{0}π^{+}) = [4.53 \pm 0.02~ \text{(stat.)} \pm 0.15~ \text{(syst.)}] \times 10^{-3}$, $ {\cal A}_{CP}(B^{0}\to \bar{D}^{0}π^{0}) = [+0.42 \pm 2.05~ \text{(stat.)} \pm 1.22~ \text{(syst.)}]\%$, and $ {\cal A}_{CP}(B^{+}\to \bar{D}^{0}π^{+}) = [+0.19 \pm 0.36~ \text{(stat.)} \pm 0.57~ \text{(syst.)}]\%$. The measurements of $\mathcal{B}$ are the most precise to date and are in good agreement with previous results, as is the measurement of ${\cal A}_{CP}(B^{+}\to \bar{D}^{0}π^{+})$. The measurement of ${\cal A}_{CP}$ for $B^{0}\to \bar{D}^{0}π^{0}$ is the first for this mode, and the value is consistent with Standard Model expectations. △ Less

Abstract: Using the entire data sample of $980\mathrm{~fb}^{-1}$ collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider, we present measurements of the branching fractions of the Cabibbo-favored decays $Ξ_c^0 \to ΛK_S^0$, $Ξ_c^0 \to Σ^0 K_S^0$, and $Ξ_c^0 \to Σ^+ K^-$. Taking into account the branching fraction of the normalization mode, the absolute branching fractions are determined to be ${\cal B}(Ξ_c^0 \to ΛK_S^0) = (3.27\pm0.11\pm0.17\pm0.73) \times 10^{-3}$, ${\cal B}(Ξ_c^0 \to Σ^0 K_S^0) = (0.54\pm 0.09\pm 0.06\pm 0.12) \times 10^{-3}$, and ${\cal B}(Ξ_c^0 \to Σ^+ K^-) = (1.76\pm 0.10\pm0.14\pm 0.39) \times 10^{-3}$. The ratio of branching fractions of $\overline{B}{}^0\rightarrow D^{+}K^{-}$ and $\overline{B}{}^0\rightarrow D^{+}π^{-}$ is measured to be $R^{D} = [8.19 \pm 0.20(\rm stat) \pm 0.23(\rm syst)] \times 10^{-2} $. Abstract: We report the results of the first search for the decay $B_s^0 \rightarrow η^\prime η$ using $121.4~\textrm{fb}^{-1}$ of data collected at the $Υ(5S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider. We observe no significant signal and set a 90\% confidence-level upper limit of %$7.1 \times 10^{-5}$ $6.5 \times 10^{-5}$ on the branching fraction of this decay. We report the results of the first search for the decay $B_s^0 \rightarrow η^\prime η$ using $121.4~\textrm{fb}^{-1}$ of data collected at the $Υ(5S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider. We obtain \begin{eqnarray} \mathcal{B}(D^{0}\toπ^{+}π^{-}η) & = & [1.22\pm 0.02\,({\rm stat})\pm 0.02\,({\rm syst})\pm 0.03\,(\mathcal{B}_{\rm ref})]\times 10^{-3}\,, \nonumber \\ \mathcal{B}(D^{0}\to K^{+}K^{-}η) & = & [1.80\,^{+0.07}_{-0.06}\,({\rm stat})\pm 0.04\,({\rm syst})\pm 0.05\,(\mathcal{B}_{\rm ref})]\times 10^{-4}\,, \nonumber \\ \mathcal{B}(D^{0}\toφη) & = & [1.84\pm 0.09\,({\rm stat})\pm 0.06\,({\rm syst})\pm 0.05\,(\mathcal{B}_{\rm ref})]\times 10^{-4}\,, \nonumber \end{eqnarray} where the third uncertainty ($\mathcal{B}_{\rm ref}$) is from the uncertainty in the branching fraction of the reference mode $D^{0}\to K^{-}π^{+}η$. The color-suppressed decay $D^{0}\toφη$ is observed for the first time, with very high significance. The results for the $CP$ asymmetries are \begin{eqnarray} A_{CP}(D^{0}\toπ^{+}π^{-}η) & = & [0.9\pm 1.2\,({\rm stat})\pm 0.5\,({\rm syst})]\%\,, \nonumber \\ A_{CP}(D^{0}\to K^{+}K^{-}η) & = & [-1.4\pm 3.3\,({\rm stat})\pm 1.1\,({\rm syst})]\%\,, \nonumber \\ A_{CP}(D^{0}\toφη)&= & [-1.9\pm 4.4\,({\rm stat})\pm 0.6\,({\rm syst})]\%\,. \nonumber \end{eqnarray} The results for $D^{0}\toπ^{+}π^{-}η$ are a significant improvement over previous results. The branching fraction and $A_{CP}$ results for $D^{0}\to K^{+}K^{-}η$, and the $A_{CP}$ result for $D^{0}\toφη$, are the first such measurements. No evidence for $CP$ violation is found in any of these decays. △ Less
